The lead singer is Linda Perry. She is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She has written songs for SO many artists, it's too much to list them all but a few are Jewel, P!nk, Dixie Chicks, Solange Knowles, Cheap Trick, Gavin Rossdale, and so many more. She also started 2 different record labels and James Blunt is on one of them. She had been married for 5 years to Sara Gilbert from Roseanne, The Connors, and The Talk. ~Be Blessed 🎩

I had no idea they were ever together. They made such a cute couple.
Indeed she was great then she quit the band and joined the dark side and has been contributing and producing crap for the last 20 years and is largely responsible for the sad state of music today

According to Wikipedia, this song was reviled by critics (among the worst of the 1990s) but I love it. The melody is such a dandy and her performance is singularly unique (though I'm not a singer). A fun, insightful video... thank you!
Well I guess it's true, Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information. It was a major hit world wide in the 90's and an inspiration to many future women singers. I loved it then and even more 30 years later🥰
Critics are a terrible place to get opinions about music. It's their job to nitpick away at anything until they've chewed all the enjoyment off the bones of it... that's why they're called "critics". This song was widely enjoyed by the music listening public as I recall.
I was a teen when this song hit the charts so this brings back a lot of memories. Here in Sweden this song was played everywhere all the time, it's a real 90's icon as far as songs go.
Love her countering the instruments in the one part with the oooos also Steampunk rocks
I usually listen to metal, but I was a kid in the 90's when this was all over the place, so "What's Up" has a permanent nostalgia corner in my brain, and is definitely one of my favorite songs to sing in the shower.

With 1.3 Billion views, one should come to the conclusion that this song is a timeless classic, and will be enjoyed by future generations long after we are gone, and as long as there are folks around to hear it...It's called STAYING POWER!!
My sister used to work with Christa Hillhouse, bass player for 4 Non Blondes. Christa and her partner joined our family a few times for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We loved them. Great memories.

Linda Perry is one the most criminally unknown singer/songwriters if her era. Pink was a huge fan and was influenced by her and Cyndi Lauper.

She is GREAT. I've never seen her live, but she has range and power for DAYS. How many women do you know of who can cover Led Sell skin and NOT strain their vouces?
As a plasterer we always cranked up the volume when this was on radio at worksites

The whole album is excellent. ALL the other songs on it are criminally overlooked and underplayed.

A long while ago I went back as an adult student to finish High School(I'm Australian, so our school levels are different to yours). I chose music as one of the subjects, and this was one of the songs we chose to play at the end of year performance, I played the rhythm guitar part of all the songs(the others songs were Under The Bridge and Two Princes). The guy playing the lead guitar was super talented in my opinion he could hear a song once and play it perfectly. That was 20 years ago, every now & then I hear a song I like & he gladly helps me learn how to play it

This song means so much to me. It was my foremost introduction to meaningful music next to R.E.M.'s "Losing my religion" and Nirvana's "Smells like teen spirit".Now I have ended as an absolute metalhead, a full member of the Nightwish Army and considering Floor Jansen as my most important inspiration how and why I want to get out of my current mental health issues. Great reaction! Her voice really reaches the heart. I'd love to hear you react to Sinead O'Connor. Most people react to Nothing Compares to You, but hearing her sing her own songs is, I think, more impactful. Especially songs she did as a teenager on her 1st album like Troy or Mandinka. I think you'd like her unconventional singing - she surprises all through her songs.

Holy crap! But this song does bring back memories. Best of all it brings back memories of the Netflix Series Sense8. Real powerful Netflix series with definitely this message of hope, understanding and acceptance. Check it out sometime.

OMG I just realized how old I am xD I own the cassette, yes, there weren't or barely CDs at the time, I knew (know?) all of the album songs back to back note by note. I was 13 :_) cool. So I found it funny the "I never sang it like that". Is there any other way? Lol, a couple of songs I LOVE in the album are Spaceman and Dear Mr President. If you haven't, you should listen to those sometime :D

I love this song so much... always have, since it first came out... and I've been around quite a few decades... so if any reviewer sings along with them I'm gonna get pizzed off. But I couldn't do that with you do, dang it. Your enjoying it like I would I guess, if I were sitting there. But I've heard it many times, just them... and yeah, they are still a little better at this song than you my dear - but I can hear you, and appreciate it regardless.
