Hello from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. My wife and I are 71 years old and have lived small and cut coupons from back in the 70's and 80's and now shop the sales. We plant a small garden but our health makes that harder every year. I have been enjoying your excellent videos, we do many of the things you mention but good to refresh those skills. One item that is proving more useful is a Uniden BCD436HP digital police/fire/ambulance scanner, it also has NOAA weather. The scanner is easy to use, just put in your zip code and it gives you all your local stations. In these crazy times it is vital to know what is happening in your area, and in case of trouble you know which way to run to avoid trouble. Thank you for these informative videos!
I really appreciate you sharing that information! We do not currently have a scanner like that, but have heard great things about them! Also, thank you for the kind words as well 💛☺
The Uniden 436HP receives digital transmissions so you can listen to police, fire, and ambulances, it is more expensive than analog scanners but they cannot listen to digital transmissions. It is easy to use as well, just enter your zip code and it will pickup transmissions in your area.
just be aware that a lot of departments are going encrypted. So I suggest before buying one make sure that the area that you’re in you can still receive the calls.
What I would recommend is to buy a sample can to see if you like the product. Some people tend to just buy the product and think it's all right when it's probably the worst thing you could do so try it out before you buy them in bulk
That's what I do. I only stock what I know I'll eat, and drink. It may be different with a large family but in my house growing up and when raising kids you ate what was put in front of you. No picky eaters allowed. Of course there are dietary considerations but other than that in a SHTF situation you can't be fussy.
I hope you get this comment. My wife and I are preppers and I just wanted to let you know about keystone meats. If you have a Meijers around you they sell them The 28oz can goes for around $10. They carry beef, pork and chicken. Also Wallmart sells keystone meats also. If not there you can buy direct from the company. You said you were buying them from Amazon. I had checked out the prices there before and they're to expensive there. We've been preppers for 5 to 6 years now. We also are Ketovore. So we eat basically all the good foods that are low carb. We pretty much don't eat processed foods at all. We've been studying how the food industry and really messed up our food supply. We eat mostly meat, eggs and low carb veggies.
I want to give people a reality check. It's so easy to say that you'll only eat certain food brands and meats because we are still living in a world of PLENTY! When SHTF and your stomach starts to touch your back, I 100% promise you that all of that pickiness will go straight out the window, and you'll eat things that haven't fully died yet. Starvation will make a person lose their mind and they'll do unthinkable things to get food. Get whatever you can while you still have time. Use this time wisely and learn how to cook different meals and especially meals that can be stretched out.
I just laughed out loud getting a mental picture of the "stomach touching the back". Good way to put it. You are 100 percent correct. There's no time to be picky when you're hungry. We as a country have become used to having things. Things that we don't even need. We are a blessed nation. I wish more people would realize that.
I started eating sardines when I went on carnivore diet. The best kind to eat are the ones with bones because you'll get the collagen benefit as well. I have lots of tins of sardines in my pantry.
Funny you did a canned meat episode. My neighbor takes her friend to a food bank on Thursdays and she just gave me a 24oz can of Lakeside beef and the ingredients are just beef and salt. I've never heard of Lakeside but have a bunch of Keystone products
Got a can of lakeside beef and pork that I havent tried yet. Good to have on hand. I think some people need to brush up on different meals to make with canned meats. Sauces, gravies, herbs and spices make a difference.
Thank you for the tidbit on removing salt from canned meats. Never thought of that. I've started a low sodium diet and wondering if there's a way to remove excess salt from survival food. Great content, subscribed.
I have switched to natural catch brand - pole caught tuna. It is pricey but the quality is good, nice chunky flakes sustainability caught. I buy it in boxes of 6 (24 cans a box) then I put fabric around it using it as a side table next to my bed . Rotate out annually
Awesome video with great information! Thank you so much! I love and prefer Kirkland Canned Chicken (Sams Club) it tastes great. Recently ventured into Keystone Meats- amazing quality and taste with bigger cans !
My local Walmart always has Keystone canned meats in stock, so it might be a regional product. It is much cheaper in store than online, especially compared to Amazon. Sellers there dramatically inflate the price.
I have tried the Keystone ground beef, chicken and regular beef. Walmart used to carry all three but not anymore at the ones near me. I actually liked all three, the meat didn’t taste “fake” or cheap. I usually get the Members Mark chicken and tuna.
You can buy Keystone at their website, but be warned, I ALWAYS get dented cans from them when I order from them online. You are in Texas like me, ask your walmart if they will start carrying "survival food" and they usually buy Keystone when they do. Two of the walmarts near me, San Antonio, carry Keystone, but usually just the beef and chicken. Seldom do they ever have Keystone pork or turkey.
Aldi has been rocking sardines from Europe for 99 cents a tin, absolutely hunt them up. The Costco white tuna is top shelf, almost too good for a prepper pantry but I would still lay some in mindful of the expiration date. Good luck.
I also try to avoid cans with pull tabs if it's a long term pantry item. To me the pull tabs aren't as good a seal. Even with pantry item rotation. It's another thing to consider. That's another reason the keystone meats are good. I just make sure I've got a couple of extra manual can openers on hand. It's hard to find a good one these days.
If I end up with a can or two dented on delivery I use it as soon as possible. The dents to be particularly concerned with are ones along the top and bottom edges and along the seams of the can. If it's just a slight dent in the side I dont worry as much as long as not along the seam..
