Been stocking them for years. The ground beef is good for tacos, the chunk beef we add a can of pes and carrots, a can of potatoes, and half a pack of McCormics stew spice. Heat up a few minutes and it is beef stew. Pulled pork with some BBQ sauce and put on burger buns. Neve seen the Turkey but got a lot of Chicken instead and use it to make pot pies. It is not only a good prep for bad times it also will not go bad in power outs when the fridge is down for a few days. Also with meat prices starting to go nuts buying now may be saving money down the road.
Since I posted this have ordered a case of the turkey (12 big cans) straight from the maker and got it in less then a week. Been a prepper for over 25 years so like to share recipes when I get a chance.
I often take a can of roast beef and add it to some cooked egg noodles and some brown gravy. Toss in my favorite seasonings and it's really good. I call it beef tips and noodles because it's pretty close.
This is what I make every couple of months. It is a lot easier than cooking a tough piece of rump roast or some other piece of beef for hours. I think it tastes pretty good. If you can find the large can at the reasonable price then it is actually a good deal. Unfortunately, some suppliers have really been gouging lately. I've seen the 28 oz cans going for $20-30 online, while my local Walmart has them for $7.50.
I just ordered directly online from Keystone Meats, no out of stock issues and much cheaper than Pleasant Hill Grain. Keystone Beef( 28oz $120 a case/ 12 cans) vs $182 at Pleasant Hill Grain. I've heard from others that Keystone's customer service and shipping is excellent, no dented cans. Thank you for your informative video.
That's a really great recipe, that's exactly the same way I would prepare it, definitely a great meal for regular times and survival times that would be a fantastic comfort food meal with everything you need to keep you going, I'm so impressed I subscribed!!!

Thanks for posting this. People buy long term stores but never practice cooking with them. The average cans have fat in the meat and the can things like soup mixes are very bland. They try to cook it and say it’s not good. The wife and I have used a can or two of everything so when an emergency arises we can make very good tasting food. Being able to have a good meal is a massive asset of times are tough.
I have used the hamburger & beef, and they are great ! I made 3 different meals, with the beef. Meat freezes good. Excellent tasting.😊. So handy to have in cabinet, ready for another meal. I love it !! ( my dog enjoyed a tidbit too. 😂)
Check out Pleasant Hill Grain online ( no affiliation) They typically sell by the case Of course prices are high on everything now; however, you can save a little purchasing the 28oz cans vs the 14.5 By the case. ( same amount of product , fewer cans)
Thanks for taking the hit and open those cans. I have a few but didn’t want to open them because those baby’s are a little pricey. Thanks for the video. God bless.
Great video!!! I've heard that even though Keystone has a 5 year expiration date that they will actually last for decades. What are your thoughts on that ?
It is commonly believed canned foods have a much longer shelf life than the best by date. Having said that let’s look at some of the variables we should be aware of. No canned, freeze dried, Mylar 02 packaged foods are going to last long term stored incorrectly. Most emergency foods companies say in the very fine print to store between 50 and 70 degree temps and I’m sure many folks aren’t anywhere near that in there food storage. Canned foods have several enemies, heat, moisture to name a few. Anything that accelerates the deterioration of the metal can is a problem. Additionally, some canned foods that are high in acid, such as canned tomatoes, can eat into the metal can and cause failure. I’m not a food safety expert by any means and simply try to do due diligence research in my personal planning with the information provided by food companies. Any particular product in question is always best to contact the manufacturer for specific details. Thanks for watching Eddie!
That looks tasty! I have been buying canned beef recently from Walmart and I think Sam’s has started selling it online. We can’t get Kirkland brands here there are no Costco in Maine or New England. But making these types of dishes are easy and nutritious and filling. Thank you!
I’ve had good experiences buying this stuff from Pleasant Hill Grain online….no affiliation. Price and availability on all this stuff is getting crazier by the day but I don’t think it’s going to get cheaper anytime soon. Thanks for watching Linda
The “ best by” date on the cans I’ve recently purchased show about 5 years. It’s commonly believed that canned foods will last many more years than that. Having said all that, there are a lot of variables to any food shelf life from the conditions they are stored. Hot garages, sheds etc. will cause foods to spoil faster. Additionally, High moisture environments can cause rust on the metal cans. Thanks for watching Elizabeth
They say to store what you eat. We’ve tried them all. You can add a bottle of BBQ sauce to the pork for pulled pork or the beef for BBQ Beef. The ground beef makes good tacos or burritos. I was highly impressed by the quality.
I've bought the Keystone beef for a couple of years - the family loves it. Just heat and eat.....is just like pot roast. I typically add a can of beef and a can of whole new potatoes and a can of sliced carrots in a skillet and heat for 10-15 mins. Dinner served! Easy and delicious. BUT...when you open the can, it smells and looks like dog food....but heat it up a bit and it becomes delicious pot roast!
It’s a good option to have for sure. Im setting up to start pressure canning my own meat….we will see how much if any savings there is with meat prices and now natural gas in my area skyrocketing

Everyone is charging exorbitant prices now Jun. We are certainly entering a different time in our country/world. Skyrocketing food prices and Inflation coupled with limited availability is becoming the normal and we haven't seen the worst of it yet sadly.
You can order direct from Keystone Mikki ….they have been best price lately. Pleasant Hill Grain is another option as well as many of the common online sources ( Walmart etc) they aren’t cheap ( like all meats ) but I buy the 28 ounce can when available for a little savings
like what you said about using your food storage to test the "gaps". until you do this you wont really know some simple adds such as dried spices that can kick up a plain dish and takes little space/time to figure out
I have tons of Keystone meats, but lately they have been harder to find, and the prices are going crazy. That's the way things are going for everything, but at least you know that you are getting quality.
Yes, Prices and availability on everything is going crazy and many are warning the worst is yet to come. I saw number ten cans of freeze dried ground beef currently up to 90 - 150 dollars a can.
@@thereadinesschannel7610 I agree. Most people don't seem to be worried yet, the stores raise prices 25c or so, it just seems annoying if you aren't looking at how much your total bill is. I got a lot of the Keystone at around $6.50, for each type (of course, not any hamburger), I feel good to have real meat stockpiled. I also can meat from the store, especially hamburger, and other things. I will be setting up my freeze dryer this week, I am going to have tons of fun with it. I'm going to make all kinds of stuff with it. Having food is so important, I really feel for the people in Shanghai, that is horrific, just absolutely totalitarian control of the people.
Yep, they are sometimes called potatoe flakes due to their light flaky form after dehydrating. I’ve tried Hungry Jack, Walmart brand and Idahoan. All seem to be about the same imho and are a great resource for food storage.

@@thereadinesschannel7610 New subscriber. Just found your channel, and I like the “no nonsense” approach (bloopers are great though!!). I liked the concept of for a weekend to cook with only emergency stores as if “the real deal”. That’s one of the greatest benefits of training , to find weaknesses in the system before it’s the real deal. I NEVER considered instant potatoes as part of my emergency stores, brilliant! Hope not too many people in my area watch this ! 🤪
I made this one buy welding three horseshoes together and then welding nuts on so I can change bolt length ( stand height) A tripod set up might be more versatile and can purchase from lodge.
I have ordered thru Pleasant Hill Grain online, no affiliation . Like everything else, the prices are going up on all this stuff with no end on sight. Grocery store Meat prices and availability in my area have been tumultuous as well. You can save some by ordering by the case and larger size cans. Walmart sells it also I hear although It’s not stocked in my local stores.
They show a Best By date of 5 years. I keep my canned foods inside ( climate controlled) and have consumed some products way past the best by dates with no issues. I rotate and manage my canned pantry regularly tho, as far as what I need to eat up soon and replace etc. The problem now of course is the high cost of replacing foods like meats. I think the problems come from storing this stuff in a hot garage etc. I’ve seen a lot of food storage failures first hand with others in my area that do the garage , shed. Check the prices from Keystone, a viewer recently said they bought it cheaper directly from company.
Keystone also does chicken,I get that in addition to the 2 beef forms and turkey. I do not eat pork for religious reasons. the chicken comes in the same size can as the beef
There are a lot of variables to canned food storage and shelf life. Probably the number one issue is improper storage such as storing in a hot garage etc. moisture that could rust cans is another issue to consider. Stored properly (cool dry location) you could easily expect to get five years. Additionally many report that canned foods will last many more years longer then that. I use my stuff on a regular basis and rotate my canned food storage using the first in, first out method. Here is a link to a video we did on canned foods ua-cam.com/video/5aWMWdBikns/v-deo.html. And freeze dried foods ua-cam.com/video/l2dwgbNHJ0A/v-deo.html
I wanted to add to my reply, It’s my personal belief that no can of food is worth taking the risk of illness or worse. You will hear advice About food storage such as testing food safety by looks, smell and taste. Some deadly pathogens like botulism thrive in anaerobic environments and don’t necessarily have an odor. Just my two cents but a few dollars can of food that is in question isn’t worth it to me. You are better off looking at freeze dried stuff if you are interested in long term storage IMHO.
@@thereadinesschannel7610 Survival Fresh sells the same type of canned meat with same ingredients and cooking method and it's good for 25+ year shelf life. I was just wondering if you thought keystone would actually be good for the same length of time if stored properly.
@@Fast_Eddie_ that’s always a hard call with canned foods. Keystone gives about five years but we know canned foods can go much longer if stored properly. Is the product you mentioned freeze dried or plain canned meat.
@@thereadinesschannel7610 Thanks for the reply. Not freeze dried, just canned with meat, a pinch of salt, canned, sealed and slow pressure cooked. Sounds exactly like the same process as keystone which leads me to believe its probably good for a lot longer than 5 years.
Bad experience here. I bought 2 cases. 3 cans not sealed and 7 cans dented with not outside damage to box..(which makes me think they were packed that way)
That does sound like a bad experience Wanda. Ive been fortunate with all their products Ive ordered. I would certainly contact the company direct about the can seal.
Walmart Carries them is some areas Matt but I order them online either directly from Keystone or Pleasant hill grain. Keystone has been better price last time I ordered. I buy the larger 28oz cans when available due to the overall cost savings vs smaller 14.5 Oz cans. I’m getting ready to home can some meat with pressure canner due to the ever increasing cost of a lot of this stuff so tune in to the channel in the coming weeks for some of that info and cost breakdown
Good video. Thank you. Please remove the lid completely from the can. Have seen severe deep cuts from people leaving the lid on the can after opening. I cringed every time I saw your hand close to the lid. 😯
I have heard that Walmart stocks it in some stores…not in my area however. Try Pleasant Hill Grain online. Inventory and price is a little rough on these products anymore but it’s not going to get better anytime soon so whatever you buy today will likely be higher tomorrow.

I bought these from pleasant hill grain online by case. You have to shop around due to price and availability changing by the day. The alcohol does cook off pretty quick.
Most Walmart's carry some of their products. Pleasant Hill Grain is where I buy from too unless I can find it cheaper at a local store. Side note, the Yoder's canned Bacon and Red Feather Creamery canned butter are both excellent as well!
I usually omit alchol from recipes ( i just dont like it) and replace with same amount of broth or stock. If recipes only call for small amount, you can open your can or box of broth and freeze small portions in ice cube trays. When frozen, pop into ziplock bags in the freezer ( labled and dated of course). This way, you can take out only what you need. You could also just add some boullion and water.
Everything is going sky high so fast it’s unbelievable. I paid 6.85 a gallon for diesel today. Check out Pleasant Hill Grain online if you are wanting some of these. They usually have Keystone products in stock and although expensive, not as high as those mentioned. I buy the bigger 28oz cans for a little savings.
@@jungleno. I think a lot of manufacturers are focusing on getting what products they can to there high volume/re-occurring accounts. A lot of companies focus on that business model. Augason Farms came out end of last year with that same announcement as an example and stopped focusing on being a retail store vs a supplier to large volume seller’s.
Any canning process will render liquid from the meat Joan. How much is normal I don't know for certain; however, I see this with home canning meat as well. I've looked at other canned beef from big box stores and found them to have excessive water due to precooked meat being canned in added water. A small 12 oz can with a few small pieces of meat seems like a rip off to me compared to the Keystone. I think the real issue is the price of everything, including Keystone products, going sky high but when the price of raw products is out of bounds it's hard to blame the end seller. I'm beginning to pressure can my own meats due to this problem and its not what I would call cheap but a better plan cost wise. Next time I open a can of older Keystone, I will do your test to see if anything has drastically changed ( assuming your can is a new one)
It is really sad right now, to see that all retailers are out of the Keystone canned meat products, but it is being sold on Amazon and on Ebay, for 3-4 times the original cost. Sold at WM for 6.98. On Ebay for $21. and up, and on Amazon for 18.95 up to 31.75. This is how SOME people help others. Very sad. But this is another reason we will get what we deserve.
And it’s not going to get any better soon. After years of dealing with the worst part of human nature I can confidently say that one of the primary concerns in any emergency scenario is the animal side of people when the normal is thrown out and survival instincts kick in.
Ya, UA-cam videos must be it, or.. it’s inflation that’s sweeping over the whole nation on products across the board, not just Keystone, products of every kind and worker shortages due to idiotic policies from Washington that also have affected cattle ranchers and meat processing plants along with shipping being a huge cluster across the nation. Have you noticed the price increase and inventory problems with beef in Your grocery store?
I've heard: Do not boil water in cast iron, do not use cast iron for acidic foods...WHY? In 50 years of cooking. I do both all the time. If what you're cooking dissolves the seasoning, just reseason...A no-brainer. Since most people don't know how to cook with salt, I suppose this should be expected (they fake it with kosher salt).
It’s interesting how often a piece of questionable information gets passed around and somehow becomes fact. I do these things all the time with cast iron and never have any issue….I do take proper care of these things tho and I’m sure that’s where some have experienced problems. Thanks for watching Steve.
keystone beef is the best, but I cant get it anymore, i refuse to pay 10 dollars a can. Hopefully inflation drops someday, they were a nice alternative to 25 dollar MREs
I hear ya…..I recently bought a pressure canner to process my own meats. Presto makes a 23 qt. Canning pot for are about 150 and I think it’s coming down to this now for meat storage.
Oh! Heard good things about Keystone -- yet nothing as convincing as your video of the product! Thanks for showing a meal prepared with pantry items. THAT is a lot of food you just made!
Thanks For watching Joan. Cooking out of food storage and vacuum sealing the leftovers is really a good way to stretch canned foods and dry staples into multiple meals.
All you're making is a Shepherd by you just don't have the vegetables in there and you don't have the pie crust but it's the same thing my dad was a mess hall cook used to make it all the time in the And for us kids

I see Walmart has stores in Canada and since they sell these products at some of there stores here maybe they can ship to store etc. prices are skyrocketing here on all meats so I have no idea what the cost hit is on something like that is.I picked up a pressure canner recently to start processing more stuff myself. Between what I grow in garden and fresh meat I think it will be a significant savings.
@@thereadinesschannel7610 Thanks so much for the reply, to be honest I did not expect one. Unfortunately, I checked into this recently, Walmart Canada, at least in my area does not and has no plans to carry this product. Once of the realities that always surprises me is the great pricing you have down there for long term storage for food and how the pricing up here can be four times the amount, and yet not many Americans take advantage of that. I’m not familiar with New England Susan, but you can order online from Walmart or Pleasant Hill Grain. One of those two should work for you.
That looks good I miss that
Walmart has the 28 oz. beef for $9 each. You can buy bulk at $150 for 24 cans and save $2 each.
Thanks for the heads up. All this stuff is going up In price and out of stock routinely anymore so info sharing like this helps us all.

So the potato flakes are basically instant mashed potatoes?
Yep, they are sometimes called potatoe flakes due to their light flaky form after dehydrating. I’ve tried Hungry Jack, Walmart brand and Idahoan. All seem to be about the same imho and are a great resource for food storage.

New subscriber. 🤪
Where did you get that stand to place the Dutch oven over the coals?
I made this one buy welding three horseshoes together and then welding nuts on so I can change bolt length ( stand height) A tripod set up might be more versatile and can purchase from lodge.

Where do you get keystone canned meat? I've never seen it in grocery stores around upstate NY.
What is the shelf life on the keystone canned meat?
They show a Best By date of 5 years. I keep my canned foods inside ( climate controlled) and have consumed some products way past the best by dates with no issues. I rotate and manage my canned pantry regularly tho, as far as what I need to eat up soon and replace etc. The problem now of course is the high cost of replacing foods like meats. I think the problems come from storing this stuff in a hot garage etc. I’ve seen a lot of food storage failures first hand with others in my area that do the garage , shed. Check the prices from Keystone, a viewer recently said they bought it cheaper directly from company.
@@thereadinesschannel7610 thank you so much! I'm fixing to order 4 cases
Keystone also does chicken,I get that in addition to the 2 beef forms and turkey. I do not eat pork for religious reasons. the chicken comes in the same size can as the beef
I bet it’s better quality then the brand Of chicken I have. Will go with Keystone brand when the cans I have are used up. Thanks for watching Kaylynn
Would you actually starve to death rather than eat a pig?
@@thereadinesschannel7610 THAN the brand. Not (then)
@@squirrelcovers6340 if there was absolutely nothing else I would eat some then go on to find something else
Hi Thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching Mary
I can't seem to find the pork.
Try Pleasant Hill Grain Goldy (no affiliation) As is routine now, have a seat when you see prices
How long is the shelf
@@thereadinesschannel7610
Survival Fresh sells the same type of canned meat with same ingredients and cooking method and it's good for 25+ year shelf life.
Where do I get the products
Check out Pleasant Hill Grain Online…one viewer reported buying from Keystone directly at a better price.
Is the meat canned in a # 10. Can
No, they come in 14.5 oz or 28 oz size Mary. The 28 oz is a little better price and at the cost of food now every little bit helps.
What store can I find these at ?
Good safety tip B
Where can you get this product?
I have heard that Walmart stocks it in some stores…not in my area however. Try Pleasant Hill Grain online. Inventory and price is a little rough on these products anymore but it’s not going to get better anytime soon so whatever you buy today will likely be higher tomorrow.

Jim, how much do Keystone cans cost? If you mentioned it, I missed it. Also, does the alcohol to the wine evaporate? I don't drink and was wondering?
I bought these from pleasant hill grain online by case. You have to shop around due to price and availability changing by the day. The alcohol does cook off pretty quick.
Most Walmart's carry some of their products. Pleasant Hill Grain is where I buy from too unless I can find it cheaper at a local store. Side note, the Yoder's canned Bacon and Red Feather Creamery canned butter are both excellent as well!
The big can of roast beef is a little over 8.00 a can and that prices just went up at Walmart the others are like 7.87 a can.
@@debkay1160 Thank you, Deb!
Just checked prices on Amazon, 14,5 oz can is almost $15.00, Keystone website sold out of all small cans an most 28 oz cans. Can't afford it.
Why is the canned beef always out of stock on Keystone's own website?
@@jungleno. I think a lot of manufacturers are focusing on getting what products they can to there high volume/re-occurring accounts. A lot of companies focus on that business model. Augason Farms came out end of last year with that same announcement as an example and stopped focusing on being a retail store vs a supplier to large volume seller’s.
Keystone can beef weighs up at 18 ounces on a kit hen scale workout the water and can not 28 ounces rip off
Any canning process will render liquid from the meat Joan.
Thanks for the video! Great information! Subbed!
Thanks for watching
@@thereadinesschannel7610 You're welcome!
Nothing more annoying than a dog barking at me, while I'm in my own yard!
I hear ya…..had two yappie ones behind me that barked non stop…would push limits of my better judgment at times
These videos have allowed Keystone to raise their prices to $9 a can here. Probably more in other places.
Thanks
Ya, UA-cam videos must be it, or.. it’s inflation that’s sweeping over the whole nation on products across the board, not just Keystone, products of every kind and worker shortages due to idiotic policies from Washington that also have affected cattle ranchers and meat processing plants along with shipping being a huge cluster across the nation. Have you noticed the price increase and inventory problems with beef in Your grocery store?
They are very expensive at Walmart they are 9.00 a can
Sadly this is becoming the norm anymore. We did a video warning about coming inflation almost a year ago and now we are living in the beginning of it
I've heard: Do not boil water in cast iron, do not use cast iron for acidic foods...WHY? In 50 years of cooking. I do both all the time.
If what you're cooking dissolves the seasoning, just reseason...A no-brainer. Since most people don't know how to cook with salt, I suppose this should be expected (they fake it with kosher salt).
It’s interesting how often a piece of questionable information gets passed around and somehow becomes fact. I do these things all the time with cast iron and never have any issue….I do take proper care of these things tho and I’m sure that’s where some have experienced problems. Thanks for watching Steve.
Yes, right on!
I do the same
keystone beef is the best, but I cant get it anymore, i refuse to pay 10 dollars a can. Hopefully inflation drops someday, they were a nice alternative to 25 dollar MREs
I hear ya…..I recently bought a pressure canner to process my own meats. Presto makes a 23 qt. Canning pot for are about 150 and I think it’s coming down to this now for meat storage.
lolol thky dan t. palm springs calif USA
Too expensive in Canada
Everything getting damn pricey here too. I’m preparing to can my own beef this year…stay tuned for comparison on costs
Can your own. It's much cheaper and better tasting.
It’s on the list.

I horded some during Trump's time in office as it was not sure what that f'er would do.
Now that he have some sanity restored I ate them.
Don't look up!
Haven’t seen that one yet
Buy a pressure canner and some jars and learn to can meat yourself. Only buy meat when it is on sale.
Good plan and is on my list. In the interim Having some canned meat is what I’ve done so I’m not relying on the empty meat cases that are common now.
Not for Canadians unfortunately. If I was an American, you can bet your butt I would be all over this product.
Like your channel, consider me subbed. Thank you.
