It never matters how many times I hear Hoist The Colours by The Bass Singers Of TikTok. I feel my jaw dropping every single time. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve heard it, and my jaw dropped this time as well.

Yes! Check out The Bass Gang here in UA-cam, they are so cool. Peter Barber , one of the members is a professional opera, singer. Peter isn’t in this video, however, he is a member of the group.

I love it when Dan finds a new rabbit hole. I never heard of this group and at first I got confused with the Bass Gang. Bobby Bass, the initial singer in the video is also a member of the Bass Gang, along with opera signer Peter Barber. I mentioned Peter Barber in a past Thursday live stream. Check out the Base Gang's "Hooked on a Feeling" featuring Tim Foust from Home Free and "Hide and Seek" featuring Lauren Paley. Their videos are fun to watch too. Enjoy!

Oh my. That was fun to watch. I found this via a convoluted path from Home Free. This song is amazing!

I see the others have introduced you to Eric Holloway-check out his channel when you get a chance. Not only does he have that incredible basso profundo/oktavist thing down, but he does some mean imitations (esp James Earl Jones).
Danny Brevik (another channel you should look at-he’s also a professional opera singer, and he is responsible for those uncanny high harmonies. I have a mad crush on his voice.
And yeah, then there’s Bobby-he not only has that lovely bass, but he did this arrangement (as well as the arrangement for The Wellermen’s Far Over The Misty Mountains and quite a lot of other great material here on UA-cam).
Great reaction! Loved it when you caught Danny’s vocals, and when you heard your very first Eric Holloway drop.

Oh, and by the way, Peter Barber has some great interviews with Bobby, Eric, David (the 2nd guy to sing, with that lovely, mellow timbre until he hits that final sub)and Danny.

Thank you, Daniel! I love this piece by the Bass Singers of TikTok.
Eric Holloway is the deep bass with the salt and pepper beard. His UA-cam channel: www.youtube.com/@thatbassvoice. He also does a podcast: Wisdom from the Porch with GP which is on UA-cam and you may enjoy: (example) ua-cam.com/video/wKbY4RbIE5o/v-deo.html .
I find a healing quality to his deep voice.

Awesome to see that you're opening your voice studio 🎙 It's something I would love to do at some point (take voice lessons). My son's dad is a bass, and I'm a contralto. We would both like to learn and improve, but he would be starting with some musical experience/knowledge, and I wouldn't. Do you feel it's helpful to do any prep type work before beginning more specific education? Like ear training, or... 🤷‍♀️😁

Ear training, pitch matching, basic fundaments like this definitely give you a spot further down the path to begin the journey. That said, it's exactly that, music is a journey each musician goes through, whether professional or casual. You can begin taking voice lessons at any musical level because (typically) music teachers understand that they started their own musical journey with no knowledge either and had to train like everyone else. Whether music comes easily to you or others is a different discussion but, like any developed skill, we all start without any knowledge and progressively grow. If you want to begin with basic interval training and pitch matching before taking lessons, that moves your starting line in your musical journey with your teacher up farther, but isn't necessary. In terms of my voice studio (and I know some others who do this as well), the first "lesson" is more of a free consultation where the student and teacher talk about goals/ aspirations for music, get to know each other and their backgrounds, create a basic plan of action moving forward, etc. So regardless of wherever you start, the teacher should be able to begin instruction on that level =)

Eric Holloway ( the 3rd solo) can go E0 which is insane. To a point I believe he can sink the soul to the bottom of the ocean or raise the dead from the grave. 😂

If you want to hear more from Eric Hollaway (person with the red shirt and beard), he also did a cover of Heat Waves with Marwan Ayman (a member of The Bass Gang).
