JOIN ME AT 9AM PDT (an hour later than our normal premiere time) OVER ON VOICEPLAY'S CHANNEL FOR THE PREMIERE OF THIS SONG. ua-cam.com/video/Y2a5v26q1AM/v-deo.html
Aw, even @ an hour later, I 'get' to miss another chat session. Gotta cruise the turnpike in the morning. *sigh* Well, I'll have something great to look forward to in the afternoon then, won't I? 😉 #letsgoback #wackawackawacka
I’ll reply to this so you see it with less comments than the FNM video. You must watch/review the Mike Patton voice compilation video on UA-cam to get a real sense of all of his octaves and voices.
Elizabeth, this piece is so insanely good. Voiceplay always does great stuff, but this is next-level good on a technical level. The amount of varying vocal techniques, chord structures, vocal acting.. this is damn near a masterclass on vocal theater.
I have always made tons of character voices, sounds and kinda throat sing, blows me away how you put it in music, and then idk how operatic singing works, I cannot read music or tabs.
Can't wait to hear what you think of this one! I was genuinely speechless the first time I saw it. It's wildly creative and absurd. VoicePlay always keeps you guessing!
Amazing how few people know Savatage, but just how many know the works of their later musical creation, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Got to talk to Jon Oliva briefly before their performance at the original Hammerjacks in Baltimore back in the late 80's. Been a wild ride for those guys over the years.
Saw voiceplay's video and started watching it, then saw this video at the top of the list on the side, and immediately thought "How did this video premier 30 minutes after the music video premiered?!" Given that it's 25 minutes long, that would have been crazy to get the files uploaded to youtube that quick. Then you say you got early access, and its nice to see how the barrier between the artists and the listeners are broken down when it comes to voiceplay, and how much they must have enjoyed your reactions to their videos.
It’s standard across media for certain people to get early access under embargo, meaning they have time to prepare their reviews or analysis but can’t release until the subject goes public.
I can't be alone in this.... I expected another song altogether, metalheads back me up here. It's an oldie but a goodie, Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King. So this was definitely a surprise, but a welcome one. I did not know I needed this in my life!
There is also a nice version from Rainbow back in 1995 with Dougie White on vocals. But Savatage's is better, heavier and I like Jon Oliva's (R.I.P his Brother Cross, great guitarslinger) voice more, too.
Can't believe the creativity of expressing the same melodic line in so many different fashions. Never got boring. As always, I know the good stuff is happening when the tongue peeks out between the teeth. No words necessary. Well done Elizabeth. You entertain as much as they do.
When VoicePlay releases a new video - I do them first, then head out for my reactors. You, dear Liz, were right behind VoicePlay and you brought incredible to this analysis. It was fun to giggle with you through all the fun parts. You did make me aware of some incredible stuff. So thank you.
I didn't like opera until I heard this. I never knew that opera could be so funny. This is a work of art. I love the "burp box" that Layne does. I want Cesar's ears.
Thank you for a wonderful video reaction, Elizabeth. I have not seen you laugh this much in a video reaction in some time. It is a perfect video for the Halloween season. I believe Mr. Grieg would love this rendition of his music. I agree with you Elizabeth. After watching this video, I will never think of In the Hall of the Mountain King the same way again.
I watched their video first and was confused a bit, so I watched your video. Now I get it. I went back and watched it. Now my experience is enhanced! Thanks!
I don't think I've ever seen Layne's face so animated Wonderful. And no one can suggest that Geoffis a Disney princess in thisone, that's for sure. :) And when do we ever see Layne without a carrot LOL
Fantastic reaction and I learned a lot! I also learned a lot from the heads up that Geoff gave on the Patreon page. There is a YT channel called Classics Explained that tells the story of this musical piece. I’ve heard this music all my life but never knew the story behind it. It did help me figure out what the heck was going on. I was so confused! Entertained and impressed, but confused. Your perspective as an opera singer and vocal coach just added that much more richness to the piece for me. I have watched this countless times. In addition to the amazing music and the crazy make up, props have to go out to Layne for not only arranging this, but dragging in those trees to appear in the foreground. Apparently he went out and cut them down.🪚 But also props to Eli for the lighting. Especially the end when they all disappear. Each character has their own color. It may seem like a really minor thing, but to those of us who learn visually it’s just the icing on the cake.
What is going on is that the human in the story is walked in on the trolls (Norwegian trolls is of many kinds) and the song is them talking about how they will murder and eat them. Not really hard to find out as there literally is a theater piece this comes from called Peer Gynt where this music is specifically made for.
I'm on their patreon so I got to see a couple weeks ago. Been listening to it almost constantly since. It is definitely fun and awesome. I know Cesar was having a blast cause he got to be his sassy self.
I am always amazed at how they are constantly outdoing themselves. I was NOT prepared for this song!!! the sheer creativity! it's as if they listened to a piece of music and debated among themselves, "What story can we tell with this? How far can we take it, how much can we play with it?" I have listened to this song dozens of times now, sometimes multiple times per day, and I am full-on addicted to this.
I can't be there for the premiere, but I am looking forward to watching it later. The Fist time I heard something from Peer Gynt was when ELO performed the same piece on their Album 'On the third Day', which incidentally also got me interested to listen to some classical music. That was over 40 years ago, and your channel is a great way to learn about and appreciate music I might otherweise never have listened to.Thank you for that!
Looking forward to your analysis of this one! They did such an amazing job here! It's so creative, funny and wild! I just have no words to explain, just been humming it all day for the last couple of weeks! Glad to see you back on VP!!! 😍
I am so happy to see this-I worried that now that they’re back to doing live gigs, they were going to stop putting as much into videos (the last couple releases were great, but not the huge cosplay kind of thing we’ve seen so much of-which is a big part of what I love about them. It’s nice to know they’ll still go all out for those of us who can only watch on video. The other thing I just love about this is that we’re hearing things from every one of these guys that we’ve never heard before-who knew Eli could growl like that, or that Cesar could make all those wild sounds, or that Layne could not just sing, but sing in so many different voices, or that Geoff could make that lovely classical sound (gah-I want MORE of that! 🥰). I checked out Liz’s TikTok since I’d never heard of her and so I came in knowing she had a great voice, but OMG. More of her, too, please! Loved this reaction-your giggles are priceless! (BTW, surely what we’re hearing was sung in studio, without all the makeup, but I’d love to hear what it sounded like on the set when they were doing the video-you’re probably right that the prosthetics made for quite a different listening experience.)
I’m so excited to see your analysis of this! I’ve seen and heard it on VoicePlay’s Patreon. Their voices are wonderful, the arrangement so fun and the video spectacular! I love their creativity and humour!!
I'm still pretty new here so there may have been one in the past, but I think that's the most I've seen you giggle during a reaction vid, and well worthy too. Great rendition, and great reaction/analysis - thanks Elizabeth
I fell in love with this channel all the way back with the disturbed sound of silence reaction and this video reminds me why. Anyone can give entertaining or informative reactions there are hundreds of channels, but this one stands above all. Seeing the pure joy and childlike glee on Elizabeth's face while simultaneously seeing the wheels turn as she's breaking down exactly what's happening will never get old.
I suppose Elizabeth should start with a song we all know she'd LOVE : Gutter Ballet , but if we're talking SAVATAGE I would vote for this one HOUNDS, incredible vocals !
I love how excited you got listening to them! This song is definitely one of my favorites from an orchestral side, but the voices give it a different (warmer, more personal, maybe?) feature. The masks in the trees in the background are Lock, Shock and Barrel from their Nightmare Before Christmas video "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" (featuring Rachel Potter).
Such a fun one!! The video alone is so much fun but having your commentary on it made is so much better! THANK you! I would love to offer a suggestion for a reaction. Bjork "An Echo a Stain" please please please!
I just love the excitement from Elizabeth! :D So great to see someone so dedicated to the world of singing. Oh yeah Voiceplay is fantastic as always :P
Elizabeth is definitly my favorite reactor. Just, so so fun. All her reactions are just so gleeful and exciting, it hits right in the seratonin for me. These reactions make me so happy its stupid.
I don't always watch the full video, but I really like your enthusiasm of the styles and techniques used, and how you analyze/breakdown the songs vocals. I really Really Like What you have built here. Keep up the Great work! I am sure many people also enjoy and appreciate your critiques. Your fantasy ties delight me to no end. I get the same warm giddy feelings you express when you find something wonderful that you enjoy. Your videos are like a ray of sunshine to my soul.
This may be the best video VoicePlay has ever done. Of course, I say that after each of their videos, but they just keep getting better! :) Love your analysis and how much FUN you're having with it, as well. :)
This is too cool. I adore your reactions to the songs you listen to. I sit back with a cup of coffee in the morning or mead in the evening and watch your videos.
OK Elizabeth, now the $64K question. If invited, would you agree to be a guest singer, makeup and costumes included if Voice Play invited you to perform with them?
You were the main reactors I was waiting to hear from, and I loved your reactions from your laugh to that big beautiful smile, it made me smile the whole time I was watching. Thanks 🌹🖖🏾👊🏾
Watched VoicePlay release, then saw you were doing analysis and watched yours immediately after. So much more insight to enjoy VP even more but watching your reactions; priceless! Keep doing you! Going back to re-watch "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" a few more times with your observations in my brain...
SO GOOD!!! As we are getting into the "spooky season", I'd love to see a reaction to Voice Play's "Grim Grinning Ghost" (fully produced/non-live version). It's quite short, so perhaps a double feature with Geoff's solo version of "The Headless Horseman". Those would be wonderful additions to any other Halloween songs you do this year!
Good lord, I wish I found things as entertaining as you do. Your reactions help me appreciate works that I may have dismissed otherwise. I love that about you!
If I'm not mistaken, I think Elizabeth sang on "Just sing" and has arranged some of their guest soloist (soprano) parts..like maybe on Adriana's part in Frozen 2.
This is such a fun piece of music already and somehow they made it even more fun, incredible. Loved your insight into it! Also you should go back and watch the entire behind the scenes, it is hilarious :D (I also have a deep appreciation for the trees haha)
I was in band in high school and we did the whole Peer Gynt Suite but I loved this one. I was fortunate enough to be first chair in the bass clarinet section so I got use the contrabass clarinet with incredibly deep notes. The tune stayed with me my whole life and this was icing on the cake. This video will reappear for me every time I hear it again. Of course I get to see all my reactors first impressions which is kind of like going to a beautiful park, Grand Canyon perhaps, with a friend who had never been there before. Like seeing it with new eyes and in this case new ears. Thanks for doing this one - I love your analyses and the laughter and joy it can summon. You made my day. By the way, my habit is to first listen to Geoff or VoicePlay for the perfect run through before going to my reactors. One of my favorites you did was Halo with Marty O'Donnell. That was terrific.
Thanks for your great video! I love just how much fun you have, and I'm very grateful for your analysis. I have learnt so much from you. Layne has a carrot in many of their videos. I think it started on their Frozen Medley, but he had it in their Movie Themes Medley, too, and several others.
I've always loved "In the Hall of the Mountain King". Particularly ELO's version. An acapella version is surprising, but Wow! how it works. I love the character costumes as well. Excellent Friday afternoon experience. 😈😈👹👺🤡
Savatage is and forever will be one of my favorite bands. The group has been through so many tragedies over the years. R.I.P. to Criss and Paul. 😔 The songwriting of Jon/Criss and later Jon/Criss and Paul was one of those once in a lifetime combos.
VoicePlay stuff is just so, so great. It's always funny, great production, absolutely astonishing singing, and never fails to leave you with a smile on your face. And THAT's something you can't have enough. The only way to possible make a VoicePlay video/song even better, is having Elizabeth analysing and enjoying it. :) Thank you VoicePlay and Elizabeth for the entertaining, enjoyment and smiles!
#TheCharismaticVoice I just love you excitement to all different types of music (well, these acapellas are my favorite 😉). Those little details how to do different sounds are make put so much self-esteem to myself (well, i have played over 30 years guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele etc... but i have never sing even in elementary school) so i bought private singing lessons from professional singing teacher over a year ago. Now i can sing some simple songs but i´m getting better every month. This is all because of your happy and inspiring videos which proof that you don`t have to born with perfect voice, you need just to work it out no matter how hard that sometimes is 😇 Thank You and keep uploading these videos as often as possible 🙏
LOL! Watching you watch this gave me joy!💜💜💜💜 Best reaction to this that I've seen!! I was giggling right along with you!!! Btw, I enjoyed the Hide & Seek MV of which I am told you were a part of!!! That must have been amazing!! Great work!!!! XO
Seeing as my earliest exposure to, and appreciation of, operatic music came to me by way of Warner Bros. cartoons, this piece was right up my alley. Loved every minute of it! Smashing horns by the way.
Dang it! Now that song is going to be stuck in my head all day!!! 5 hours later I'm still going around the house singing Da da da da da ta-da da da-ta da da-ta da... Curses you earworm! No telling how long this will last. I have a work meeting in an hour and I'm going to be playing that in my head while we try and conduct "real work".... Oh it's hopeless! Well, anyway, That's a fine way to get a Friday started LOL 🤣
I was falling out of my chair laughing at them and your reaction as well..they are simply amazing as always-just too funny!! love seeing your enjoyment...how is the family doing? stay safe...
I stumbled across your channel somehow, can't quite recall how, but watching you brings me no small amount of joy. I find you delightfully quirky and passionate, engaging and knowledgeable. I have a high school classmate who is a trained opera singer, so I absolutely shared your channel with her via Facebook. I also have a brother & sister-in-law who sing in their church choir, so I also shared your channel with them. After watching your analysis of Dio's "Holy Diver", I'd like to recommend a song by Avenged Sevenfold titled "Bat Country".
Just wanna say thank you for always making my day with your song reactions and analysis. Its also thanks to you, that i discovered my favorite artist AURORA. If you have the time, as I'm sure you get tons of requests lol, she has two newer songs I would love to see your reaction to one or both. One is "A dangerous thing" and the other is "blood in the wine". Thanks again for all that you do and i cant wait to see more videos! 💛
I really love the way Voiceplay made this one. I initially thought it was Lord of The Rings music. But after hearing it i found it fun anyway. There's nothing really like fantasy music, and I'd like to see much more music like this This is a great release and let's hope for more amazing content from people like this! Nate
I’ve recently gotten into your videos (and LOVED your SoAD videos) and wanted to recommend Coheed and Cambria’s music! I would love to see you do a video specifically for their newest album (Ladders of Supremacy and Love Murder One are two of my favs). I think you’d really like them! Thank you so much for making these lovey videos, I love your reactions so much!
This has become my favorite Voiceplay video. I listen to it almost all the time. Especially when I'm laying down resting. Put it on loop. Headphones on high. Lay down and press start. Yesterday when I laid down I checked the clock when I finally got up. Was listening for 2½ hours continuously. I'm the same way with The Rains of Castamere by Geoff. He's working on a new video. It's in production.
holy moley, the speed liz does those la's at the end on the runs is inhuman. at some points she is going so fast it almost sounds like la-la-da.... thats insane
I am going to have to say, it initially wasn't a favorite, however, TCV's breakdown of the video made me appreciate it much more. Thank you for the through analysis.
I'm wondering if you are going to do a reaction to Voice Play's "Hide and Seek" (featuring Lauren Paley). Please do! I heard you were included in the background vocals....I love watching your educational and clever descriptions of how voice sounds are made and the fun observations in their videos!
definitely another one of there greats and it looks like they had a ton of fun doing this whole thing.. you should hear after the song how they were talking about there merchandise in there character voices
Normally when I think of the Mountain King song, I think of 1983, playing The Mountain King on my Atari 2600 with my cousin Kevin. Now I'm still going to have fond memories of that, but, this video is stuck in my brain forever too. It's at least a good memory to get stuck in there. This channel is like a happy place.
I loved your reaction and explanations of this! As a Norwegian living close to the mountain king and his home of origin, I speculated in why everyone got horns 😅 The mountain king(Dovregubben-original name) is a troll, and I have never seen a Norwegian troll who got horns, hehe 🤭. I know, it`s freedom of fanasy, since it`s all fantasy, and I love that! very cool. btw, I recommend to listen to Richie Blackmore`s Rainbow "Hall of the mountain king", just for a personal experiance.. I really love that he put lyrics to this mystic peace! Don`t remember who got the vocal, but I find it really great. Thanks again Elisabeth, you`re great 👌
When I first saw their video pop up today on mobile and saw a truncated title, I saw Elizabeth and got real excited it was you lol- keep waiting for someday you to join their ranks hehe

Hornphones? 😁
@@joergojschaefer3521 could be. She is a cos-player.
I was thinking that and went looking for someone to comment on it - it is cosplay/streamer perfection.
@@joergojschaefer3521 Aww, you beat me to it. :)
Wearing a pagan fur coat as well 😆
As if Elizabeth’s detailed, insightful analysis isn’t enough, she also gives us the phrase “burp-boxing.” 😂

It's truly a masterpiece. I was so happy to get to see this early as well!

Savatage's "Hall of the Mountain King" would be a great song for Elizabeth to analyze. I think she'd get a kick out of the official music video, too.
savatage: Prelude to madness then hall of the mountain king
I also think she'd like Jon Oliva's voice too.
In that case, "Gutter Ballet" gets my vote.

What about Elizabeth and Elizabeth?
Or, better yet, all three. Sound of Music medley. Voiceplay featuring Elizabeth and Elizabeth. Yes, please.
The masks in the trees are from Lock, Shock and Barrel . They refer to other masterpieces of VoicePlay.

Out of the little add ons - Layne throws the glass, and Geoff's low note sounds like "why did you do that". Elizabeth is just amazing.

If invited, would you agree to be a guest singer, makeup and costumes included if Voice Play invited you to perform with them?
hmmMmMMmmMMm…
@@bruno5336 No, no, we don't talk about you, Bruno. 😁
Elizabeth did backing vocals on VP's latest offering 'Hide and Seek (Ding Dong)' so...
Yess, finally another acapella analysis. Thanks!!! I really enjoy these and would love to see more of them.
👻👻👻👻👻🎩 🪦🪦🪦🪦🪦😲🎃😲🎃😲🎃
Bubble, toil & trouble. Your infectious joy is so fantastic to see. Thank you, don't ever stop.
A joyful and wonderful video to watch! They are all amazing singers, really inspiring.
Good lord, I wish I found things as entertaining as you do. Your reactions help me appreciate works that I may have dismissed otherwise. I love that about you!
Your ability to understand and explain the physiology of human sound is enthralling to me. It changes the way I think about using my voice.
You're amazing ❤️ so into what you're doing . So wholesome to watch .
Layne absolutely killed this arrangement, one of his best for sure.
Lol I don't think I've seen you lose it so hard with the giggles before... that was a treat
Thanks for your great video! I love just how much fun you have, and I'm very grateful for your analysis. I have learnt so much from you.
Layne has a carrot in many of their videos. I think it started on their Frozen Medley, but he had it in their Movie Themes Medley, too, and several others.
Love your analysis as always, but what brought me even more joy is watching you react to the humor in this video, which made it all funny to me again.
I've always loved "In the Hall of the Mountain King". Particularly ELO's version. An acapella version is surprising, but Wow! how it works. I love the character costumes as well. Excellent Friday afternoon experience. 😈😈👹👺🤡
You need to check out Savatage's 1987 album by the same name, Prelude to Madness/ Hall of the Mountain King.
very good song and album.
I still listen to it with pleasure
Oh hell yes! It cranks.
Savatage is and forever will be one of my favorite bands. The group has been through so many tragedies over the years. R.I.P. to Criss and Paul. 😔
The songwriting of Jon/Criss and later Jon/Criss and Paul was one of those once in a lifetime combos.
That's why i clicked on this video. 🤟
Yes check out Savatages version!!!!
I loved it since it came out!!💜💜
This was so fun....great adaptation. It was also fun to watch this for the first time with you.
I found it so lovely to hear a lot of Lane's singing in this. Such a treat! The whole thing is a cornucopia of fun and devilish merriment. Superb!
Voiceplay’s rendition 🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️. Elizabeth’s analysis 🙇♂️🙇♂️😂🙇♂️. Hugest win for the viewers & fans of both
VoicePlay stuff is just so, so great. It's always funny, great production, absolutely astonishing singing, and never fails to leave you with a smile on your face. And THAT's something you can't have enough.
The only way to possible make a VoicePlay video/song even better, is having Elizabeth analysing and enjoying it. :)
Thank you VoicePlay and Elizabeth for the entertaining, enjoyment and smiles!
XO
When I was in band in middle and high school, this was easily my favorite song ever played. I love this so much.
Seeing as my earliest exposure to, and appreciation of, operatic music came to me by way of Warner Bros. cartoons, this piece was right up my alley. Loved every minute of it! Smashing horns by the way.
yay, can't wait! it's SO MUCH FUN!
Last month they had my crying this month I laughed until I cried. This was amazing and loved your reaction
Thank you for adding to my ongoing Edvard Grieg synchronicity with this video! 😀 And great outfit! 😁👍💚
In The Hall Of The Mountain King is my favorite classical piece, and I love this version of it... absolutely fantastic!!
You always show just how amazing music is.
This song was sung by Savatage!one very underrated band!
Also worth listening to from them: gutter ballet, when the crowds are gone, and more
I haven't even had a chance to listen to this before I saw your video. Excited to enjoy it for the first time with you.
Around 21:30… OH is the most resonant vowel, and we basses (even Geoff) need to use every trick we can to project down in the 1st and 0th octaves.
I really love the way Voiceplay made this one. I initially thought it was Lord of The Rings music. But after hearing it i found it fun anyway. There's nothing really like fantasy music, and I'd like to see much more music like this
This is a great release and let's hope for more amazing content from people like this!
I was so hoping you’d do this one! Yay!🎉 And you look fantastic!
holy moley, the speed liz does those la's at the end on the runs is inhuman. at some points she is going so fast it almost sounds like la-la-da.... thats insane
Such a totally Badass video from these guys they're phenomenal
Oh yes how I love voiceplay. They always make so much good mood. Thanx for your review.
I am going to have to say, it initially wasn't a favorite, however, TCV's breakdown of the video made me appreciate it much more. Thank you for the through analysis.
I can’t wait for your reaction of Pain Remains 1: Dancing Like Flames. It’s gonna be incredible!
I've got to say it again . . . This was absolutely brilliant and hilarious! Loved it!
I'm wondering if you are going to do a reaction to Voice Play's "Hide and Seek" (featuring Lauren Paley). Please do! I heard you were included in the background vocals....I love watching your educational and clever descriptions of how voice sounds are made and the fun observations in their videos!
I love these videos the best where liz can just get her nerd on and gets all giggly and happy
definitely another one of there greats and it looks like they had a ton of fun doing this whole thing.. you should hear after the song how they were talking about there merchandise in there character voices
Thanks again Elisabeth, you`re great 👌
Epic music from Voiceplay love your reaction g'day from Australia. Elizabeth 💖 U.
When I first saw their video pop up today on mobile and saw a truncated title, I saw Elizabeth and got real excited it was you lol- keep waiting for someday you to join their ranks hehe
This was really cool. I particularly like their daddy sings bass. Its old but really good show of some of their singers.
I am so glad I am signed to this beautiful and charismatic lady Elizabeth !!!!!!!!!
