Basic info:
Monsaraz is a parish of the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz, on the right part of the Guadiana River in the Alentejo region, Evora district near border with Spain. The population is around 658 inhabitants un an area 88.29km2.

Never visited Monsaraz for the tourada but just for the village itself. I love medieval villages surrounded by walls. Good restaurants in Monsaraz as well.

Bullfighting is horribly cruel. If one is going to kill an animal, do it as quickly and humanely as possible. Bullfighting is a slow and torturous way to kill the bull. Some traditions should be stopped.
I love Monsaraz, so diferent and authentic
I didn't know that Monsaraz had yet the tradition of killing the bull in the arena. I thought that only Barrancos was allowed to do that. I did a little research and it seems that was a court resolution that made that legal in the basis of tradition. In several moments different governments tried to stop this, but it seems that Barrancos won, and later Monsaraz also.
I guess most people here have no idea how bull fighting works in Portugal. They don’t kill them on the praça like Spain.
