I was on my way to the mountains and discovered this city. This was big surprise for me since I thought Serra da Estrela region is more rural.
This city in Portugal - Covilhã reminds me of mini Lisbon. So if you are planning to go to northeast of Portugal, put this city in your bucket list. It is worth it 🇵🇹

Covilhã is a city and a municipality in the Central Portugal. The city has 33,691 inhabitants and municipality population is around 46,455 in an area of 555.60 square kilometres (214.52 sq mi). It is located in the Beiras e Serra da Estrela subregion and Castelo Branco district.
This city sometimes is reffered city of wool and snow.
Covilhã is one of the main urban centres of the historical Beira Interior region. The proximity of the mountains offers amazing scenery and a great environment for those who want to hike, camp, climb and ski.
Historically region was focused on textile industry supplied by an abundance of wool produced in the area.
Covilhã is also a university city nowadays and university offers degrees in aeronautical engineering, medicine and philosophy.
The city of Covilhã sits pretty high between 450 and 800 metres (1,476 and 2,624 feet) above the sea level and the mountain landscape is always present.

Covilhã is amazing in all seasons, but special in the winter with snow
Well I have all season tires, maybe I need to go soon there 😄 Snow is unseen yet here in Portugal for me, only in my home country🇱🇻
@@millionplacesoneworld u must go to Trancoso, amazing defense city and with the marvelous sweet sardines, (but dont eat in Casa da Prisca, u have fresh ones near the churches square).
@gtagide It's bit far from me now, but will plan to cover 3-4 cities, towns there and will visit this one too. These suggestions really help me, so much appreciated 💯
Covilhã is part of the Center Region of Portugal, not North. There is a lot more above Covilhã. People in Lisbon normally think that everything above Lisbon is North of Portugal, but it's not. North is Porto, Braga, Vila Real, etc. Northeast is Bragança. If you have not been north of Covilhã, there is lot more for you to visit, and Incredibles landscapes also.

I’ve seen Covilha before from another YT channel but you always bring another perspective. 👍🏻 Even with funiculars, elevators and bridges-looks like a lot of climbing. Although the views are awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Covilhã will always be a word that non-portuguese dpeakers will always bundle and it is not their fault at all as it contain some of the hardest phonems in the portuguesex anguage.

The ocean is 200km in a straight line but you cant do that travel as there is the Serra da Estrela inbetween, a mountain range in Portugal that runs and splits the entire Center Region where is Covilhã. As such you need to go around the range, more than doubling the distance.
