I'd love to see an American company do things like civivi/we. They give people what they want. Button locks, t8's, thin grinds, good heat treats, good steel, multiple deployment options, excellent fit/finish, etc etc. They have something for everyone. Kizer and We are absolutely killing it this year
To put it simply, it's too expensive to release knives of similar quality for the same price here in the US because most of the materials are sourced from China and the cost of labour is lower over there, so they can afford to make better knives for cheaper (usually) There are non-Chinese companies that fill other niches or roles, but you do have to pay more for them on average. I find knives made in Taiwan to have slightly better fit and finish than ones that come out of China, but also commands a higher price for that fit and finish. Civivi is the perfect balance of value to the product recieved even if a lot of the designs are a bit samey. As a matter of fact, I'm gifting my Civivi Baklash to a childhood friend of mine who has never had a nice knife before.
This was one of my first knives ever, I loved it so much, but i didnt know i loved it until i sold it and went through over a dozen different knives. So, I just bought it back the other day. Its the perfect carrying size, fun to play with, looks great. Not afraid to get it dirty. Flipper i agree, i dont use it, but thumb studs are 10/10. For my smaller size hand, its perfect ergos
This is my first knife and I personally really like it. I like all the deployment features, the blade steel is amazing, and I love how it’s just large enough for my hands(large size gloves). My only issue with it is that the handle material is smooth - I have the same model
I’ve had this Knife for a few months and EDC it a lot it works great. I have normal hands bout the same grip as you. But it’s done everything I’ve asked of it and came back for more. The micarta has worn great. But it’s overall a great knife especially for the price.
This is my current "perfect pocketknife"--- it 'rectified' the WE Rectifier and turned it into a great daily. Combo pierce/slice blade with the paper-thin stock but reinforced tip, *much* better clip than a stiff ti thing, thumb-stud instead of hole, and the switch from frame to linerlock made the action incredible.
I admittedly have too many Civivis in my collection (9) but this is probably my favorite. It’s a toss up between this and the s35vn elementum. And I typically like a bigger knife but this thing just melts in my hand.
All Civivi's no longer "look the same". They have released many models that go against their early mold of neutral G10 handle and D2 steel in the past year. I really enjoy the knives I have bought from their brand. I know you prefer US made and owned brands but I appreciate you even reviewing this model and some of the WE models in other recent videos.
Bought one of these at Blade Show 2021 (East). Lost it in a field and haven't been able to forgive myself. I went to blade show with my uncle and we rarley get to spend time with eachother. He is in law enforcement and we share a love for knives and the process that goes into making them. We got closer that day and when I bought the knife I always knew I'd think of that time we met "Buck110 Dave" and ran around looking at crazy knives made from everything you could think of. Hurts me to think I lost that knife, but I'll never lose the time we spent together so thats nice.
Dude, the Damascus/CF one is $40 on Amazon rn 😮 The standard S35VN one is $80 I wish I wasn’t so broke at the moment.. I’d be buying lexan Dekas and all types of cool cutlery lol😅
seems to be great budget compact EDC knife as a gift for someone not that much into knives but decent enought to spark a new passion I am buying one for my dad (and maybe keep one for myself as well) the civivi sokoke is another nice one I was considering as a gift as it looks more classy and has more neutral ergo but it's a bit hard to find, can't find one locally anymore and maybe the sokoke folding mechanism is a bit more dangerous to get cut when folding
I’m a big Civivi fan and have been interested in this for a bit, but then I made the mistake of getting into WE knives and fell into that rabbit hole. Im still thinking about picking this up, especially after this review.
Nice knife for smaller hands. At each their size right ? Wish they put S35vn on its bigger brother, the Praxis... I'd grind the flipper out for a perfect cheap knife for my kid !
If the blade coating is anything similar to what Spyderco does on the Tenacious, it should do pretty well. I've had that knife for years and the finish is holding up nicely. The only $80 20CV that comes to mind without searching is the Kershaw Link w/ aluminum scales. I'm not sure if I'd rather have 20CV or S35VN... whichever sharpens easiest!
i personally really like the size because it reminds me of the brazen and praxis just scaled down (aside from some other features they seem similar) but those already exist and there needed to be something at that 3 inch mark. also great review!
Oh thank God your doing this review! Sweet knife. Love to hear your thought of the ganzo fh91 maybe best knife in that under 30 dollar range I've seen.
Great review MC! Def a good little value knife, cuts very well. I prefer a slightly bigger knife but if I carry this it’s usually as a secondary or lighter carry. It’s been a carry with dark dress pants/suit pants as well and rides very low profile and comfortably. Thanks for taking a look and as always keep up the great content!! 🤙🍻
Your videos are very good; informative and humorous. I am going to subscribe. I get a kick out of your strong aversion to lanyard holes. I don't use them but I don't object. I also could care less about pocket clips. I carry a knife most days and they are usually toward the smaller sizes, 3 - 3 1/2 inches and I carry it in my pocket, not clipped on anything. I think pocket clips are kinda useless. Am I weird?
Who else thinks MC should have pulled an AKB and batoned with this thing? As I learned from ‘The Bro’, every knife is a hard use knife, if you beat the dog crap out of it.
Arguably I would put the QSP Penguin in S35vn and marble carbon fiber, micarta, or Jade G10 above the pin tail for value since it's only $70 and doesn't have the issues this knife does. But that's just my opinion.
I own a pintail s35vn and it can not hold an edge period 😢 It's very well-made aesthetically but that's where it ends . I either got a complete dud that was never heatreated or CIVIVI don't know how to heatreat s35vn
I have fairly big hands and don't understand how people with "regular hands" can't fit 4 fingers on most knives. I guess my fingers are just really long but fairly thin. I cna get 4 fingers on my civivi nox..
I know that occasionally MC can over-generalize things, but I just realized that he's not completely off the mark when he says it's "indistinguishable" from some other models because I thought I owned a Pintail, so I went to grab it and found out that it's actually a Praxis. So I went back and looked again and thought I found it, but no, it's an Incite (now discontinued). So on my third try I finally found my Pintail. They all have leaf shape blades, but the Pintail is the only one with a thumbstud. Looking at them side-by-side there are obvious differences, but they are similar enough to support his claim to an extent. Update: I don't own a Pintail... it's a Hooligan - so there ya go MC. You should check out the Hooligan cuz it actually addresses some of your issues with the Pintail.
No... I specifically called this "slightly outside of budget". In any case "better for edc", especially when referring to Civivi, is totally up to the individual. If you like the Riffle/Odium, buy them. For some people, the S35VN steel will be the deciding factor.
I love the content in general but I am a little tired of the loud rants about pocket clip placement vs lanyard holes. I mean I agree with you but why do you have to be so loud about it? Idk if anyone agrees but it’s just one man’s opinion.
Wow, XL is "normal" hand size for a guy? Way to shame Nick >: ( Seriously though, for smaller knives it would be nice if you measured grip length. I know you already do a lot of measurements, but for small knives it's really useful info.

I just gave my pintail to my daughter. She picked it, great choice.

I got this one a few weeks ago. Love it! Fits my small hands perfectly.
Got mine a few months ago, but the uncoated blade with the brown micarta and its awesome.
I admittedly have too many Civivis in my collection (9) but this is probably my favorite. It’s a toss up between this and the s35vn elementum. And I typically like a bigger knife but this thing just melts in my hand.
I want a s35vn elementum so bad

I LOVE my Pintail!
I so wish this knife was just a little larger. I really like the design.
Any idea if the thumb studs are removable?
I’m a big Civivi fan and have been interested in this for a bit, but then I made the mistake of getting into WE knives and fell into that rabbit hole. Im still thinking about picking this up, especially after this review.
Same here
Nice knife for smaller hands. At each their size right ? Wish they put S35vn on its bigger brother, the Praxis...
I'd grind the flipper out for a perfect cheap knife for my kid !
great color scheme! can't get enough civivi!
The steel is a big selling point with this one
Review is spot on. And I wear XL gloves :)

I haven't realized how small it is before you made the size comparison.
i personally really like the size because it reminds me of the brazen and praxis just scaled down (aside from some other features they seem similar) but those already exist and there needed to be something at that 3 inch mark. also great review!
Very cool looking little blade.
So you're saying you prefer the CJRB Scoria over the pintail?
They should have ground in a full finger choil similar to the ferrum forge knives. This thing would have competed with the stinger.
You have your micarta scales back on your PM2. What happened to the titanium scales?
What size is the torx on the clip?
Is that dark green, or black micarta? It looks black, but i dont one with black
Oh thank God your doing this review! Sweet knife. Love to hear your thought of the ganzo fh91 maybe best knife in that under 30 dollar range I've seen.
I would love to see more makers make the the flipper tab removal ala Kizer Horn... it would help ergos for so many flippers...
How does the black finish on the blade hold up?
Love mine. Just a great little knife.
been waiting on this vid, probably gonna buy the knife now
I also prefer when a knife is either thumb studs or flipper, not both.
For what it is it’s a good deal. Another 1/4 in on the handle would have been perfect!
I've been looking hard at this one.
The black coating does wear pretty easy I will say that but I’m okay with that for 83$
Great review MC! Def a good little value knife, cuts very well. I prefer a slightly bigger knife but if I carry this it’s usually as a secondary or lighter carry. Bro u gotta check out the Civivi Lazar. My god that thing is nice
Civivi needs to get into more s35vn. I want a Brigand with s35 🤤

@Weed Ninja To be fair I wasn't even aware of an M390 version of the Penguin
I own a pintail s35vn and it can not hold an edge period 😢

no way, flippers over thumb studs, _especially_ on small knives!
So similar to my civivi Hooligan
Dido on all those nitpicks, good deal though
I have fairly big hands and don't understand how people with "regular hands" can't fit 4 fingers on most knives. I guess my fingers are just really long but fairly thin. I cna get 4 fingers on my civivi nox..
Looks pretty distinguishable to me.
screw it im buying one and grindimg away the flipper tab and make a fingergroove
i just like it the way it is we'll see
cant pass up s35vn for 90€
Sadly looks like they're discontinuing this knife, picked up a Damascus/CF and this one for $53/ea
Over here with my M-L size gloves...
What’s up MC
Sad part is its prob a full size knife dor me
I know that occasionally MC can over-generalize things, but I just realized that he's not completely off the mark when he says it's "indistinguishable" from some other models because I thought I owned a Pintail, so I went to grab it and found out that it's actually a Praxis. You sound like Tom Hanks. The entire time watch this review I’m thinking why is woody telling me about pocket knives😂
The riffle and odium are like $56😒
Those aren't in S35VN
@@metal_complex but the design is better for edc.
You said budget.
I guess each and to they're own.
Different people like different things.
No... I specifically called this "slightly outside of budget". In any case "better for edc", especially when referring to Civivi, is totally up to the individual. If you like the Riffle/Odium, buy them. For some people, the S35VN steel will be the deciding factor.
@@metal_complex all good...everyone has they're own tastes and go down they're own roads as you have said
That knife does look small in your hands.
wtf is that crap about aus8 having junk composition, it's very close to AEBL

I do. You can see the measurement when I measure the knife overall. I just don't call it out 😉
@@metal_complex true nuff
your hands are a lot bigger than average lol.
Ehhhh... I think the cam makes it look that way. But they aren't
