I am three years in the future and happy to report that this technique still works! 🤓 MC, I’ve been seriously into this hobby for about six months, although I’m an old timer who has owned and been interested in pocket knives and other cutting toys for over four decades. I started out getting serious about knives again by watching yours - and other YTer’s - recent knife unboxings and reviews to get a good idea of what it’s out there, price ranges, etc. Six months later I’m going back to watch specific unboxing and reviews of knives I like, but more importantly, I’m learning from your education and how to videos. I doubt you’ll ever see this because I know you get a hiney load of comments across all of your content and platforms every day. But just in case you do see this - as well as others like me who are just getting started - I want you to know how much I appreciate all the various types of content you have. You cover pretty much everything in around the knife world, and have a pretty well organized, so it’s very convenient and easy bone up on the things I need to learn or that I’m just curious about (why collect, mistakes to avoid, et al). So to make a long story longer: thank you!!!! 🙏😁
Worked perfectly on my new Spyderco! And my pivot screw was only on the left side but this process still worked. And for those that were impatient like me, you can skip to about 5:40 when he actually starts showing the process.
After a over a decade I finally took care after my old Ti-Lite. It has been been completely disassembled, cleaned and thanks to You Sir, re-centred! Thank You Sir! Much obliged. 👍
I just wanna say, I have been furiously trying to center a shaman that was wonky out of the box brand new and this is the only solution I have found. You sir are a genius. Thank you
I got the Kershaw CQC4KXL last Christmas when BladeHQ had them on sale for $20. It was so bad that it scraped, it took alot of work to get that guy even close to center, never got it perfect, but close and action is awesome now.
Similarly I got the cheapest offering they had at the time $25 emerson cqc-6k frame lock. the blade was off center and sounded like it was scraping. i didn't know what to do at the time, so i just tightened it, which centered it, but was then too tight to open. so i loosened it back up until it would open but then it sounded like it was scraping. finally i lubed it up with little improvement. finally i tightened down all the screws on the scales and that seemed to help the best, i just wish i had this video to tell me the trick about wedging the blade over.
Wow thank you so much .bought a copper natrix for almost 100 bucks was off-center as hell .perfect fix!! Can't stand when you buy a high priced knife and there's blade centering problems or an uneven grind!!
I was impressed, I tried this approach to correct the standard centering problem on a Para 3 lightweight, and while it wasn’t perfect, it was definitely much improved.
Dude this helps so much, thank you! Also, just a little fyi, unless I am mistaken threadlock is anaerobic. Which means it won't set (or dry) while there is air, so also you want to just put the thread lock on the first couple threads. I also use purple threadlock. (222)
Worked perfectly on my Benchmade Mini Crooked River. Out of the box it was rubbing to the right just like on the video. Followed the steps and now it’s centered.
I know this video is old but I just had to do this to one of my new knives. My civivi odium with Damascus blade was not centered when I received. Followed this video and was really simple. Worked like a champ
Worked great on my Yojimbo 2. Had perfect centering from factory and I got a set of aftermarket micarta scales for it. Took it apart to install scales, put it back together was horrible blade centering. Almost blade touching the show side. I took it back apart and together again and did the same thing. Just tried doing what you shown and this actually works I'm amazed. Its not perfect but its damn near. Thank you!!!
Cool vid. I love that Wiha stubby Screwdriver. Funny thing is I had it for a few months before I realized it came with a full set of bits in the handle ,lol.
The only really badly off-center blade I've had was on a Spyderco Tenacious. I was still brand new to collecting & working on knives (still kind of am now), & after watching this video & following your instructions, I couldn't get the blade centered no matter what. It was really, really far off, almost touching the show side of the scales no matter how I adjusted it. Turns out that changing the pocket clip from tip down to tip up was the culprit. The only way to get it centered again was to -- *gasp* -- change it back to tip down. So I ended up returning the knife, & I'm glad I did. Since then I've bought several higher end Spydercos & have been much happier! 😀 I'm still glad I watched this video, though, because I have no doubt it'll be useful to me in the future.
Okay…so I recently ordered a small army of budget knives. Did this both for comparison reference when watching clips and to have several for disassembly & maintenance practice. They came today. Brand new Penguin now centered. Thanks MC!
Just want to thank you for this video! I have a bunch of cheaper knives such as Gerber and Kershaw knives that have been given to me as gifts and this technique fixed them to perfection. I know many people have a love hate relationship with Gerber (love the look, hate the knife). Well every single one of mine is smooth as silk and perfectly centered. It’s too bad Gerber doesn’t do this right from the factory. Thanks again man.
Perfection at last. Thank you. The hardest part is waiting for the threadlocker to cure/set. I've had very good luck not having screws back out, using permatex orange gel threadlocker
New to the EDC scene and these are my favorite knife videos on youtube and MC comes through once again with a life saver for me right here. Just got my spyderco (China cough cough) and it was rubbing on the inside liner got it to about 40/60 in 2 minutes with this method and I can live with that on a budget knife thank you sir! PS I'm drooling over the Shaman it's on my wish list.
Couldn't sleep last night because the pivot on my Tenacious came loose and the centering got out of whack because of that. Thanks for the detailed explanation - I managed to center it back to where it was, currently left it to dry, we'll see in a dat or two how it goes, but I got a good feeling
Holy smokes did this video post at the perfect time. I just received my Spyderco Shaman in REX 45 with Dymondwood handles and the blade came a touch off center. That’s the only thing “wrong” with the knife and it really bummed me out when I first excitedly tore into the box to get to the knife. These videos are great to see and unique to what everyone else is doing. Thank you!
Just took my knife apart for cleaning. Put it together and noticed the blade wasn’t centred. Watched your vid, and all is well. Thanks so much. I am fairly new to collecting decent knives and just recently came across you channel. Thanks so much👍.
Nick Shabazz has alot of these types of videos on youtube... he also covers alot of different lock types and knive styles in his disassembly videos... Check it out...
You're basically squaring the two long sides of the rectangle that is the handle/frame. GREAT video man, worked like a charm on my Shaman that I just did a scale swap on.
I like that you argued the point that we know it don’t need to be perfect to work. But some people like me like making things perfect. Any job I do I do it to the best of my ability. Damnit I want that blade centered! Hahah thank you for the advice brotha! Keep up the videos.
Thanks brother, I followed your instructions to align the blade on a low end all metal Kershaw Filter frame lock (don’t hate it’s a knock around knife). Your process was uber easy and worked incredibly well. I’m a subscriber from now on.
Greet vid. I never use the paper and have seen people using it. I Used to, but now I just ease alll of the tension out of the back screws . I slowly get those back screws in while I’m adding tension to the front so I don’t have any potentially stored energy in the frame (it’s so weird how that works ... even nick shabazz can’t explain it but it’s physics and he’s an acoustician). Then I check the play halfway open to make sure it’s not ruining itself while rubbing off center. There is a PERFECTLY good reason to get the blade centered, and that’s so that it doesn’t loosen up over time, and then give you blade rub or a pivot problem which can cause the blade to damage and basically you’re left with a broken pivot and knife and washes and you’re left with a set of scales that work and that’s it. I don’t let any blades have any play, and if they can’t cease play without being centered THEN, and only then, will allow it to sit all funny on one side and look wonky and broken to me. Being off center is the worst showcase of how bad a knife is aligned in my opinion. Coincidentally, the mini domin I got for free with the purchase of a sheepdog mini, it was unevenly ground badddddly, and so badly that it looks like there’s a grind on one side and not the other. The Ricaso shows how bad it is -/ and the centering was off, but if I cease any play while giving it side to side (pretty hard) but only with two fingers, it STILL gave me side to side play. I have to lock that damn knife all the way to one side if I make draw cuts, or it feels like there is play when it’s centered. This turned me off from kizer a budget line and it’s the first budget Kizer I had received, and for free, so I’m not sure I can get my money back lol. I just won’t ever buy a Kizer budget blade now due to their advertising with a poorly made knife in tolerances and with a wonky grind on mine. I love that knife model and started to resent Kizer for it. I may try to call them but it’s a knife they sent for free 🤷🏻♂️.
Awesome. I needed this info. Was brainstorming and was actually gonna just wedge the blade with paper and leave it. I was half way there until i searched this on youtube and you explained the rest. Thank you!
Works as demonstrated, thanks! You made me go through all of my knives, none were rubbing, but they’re all centered now. It’s a great excuse to sip on some scotch.
Thank you very much for your tutorial. My bugout aircraft aluminum lost its center and i was afraid i might have to send it in for repair, your tutorial helped me figure it out, now its back to center. Thanks again!
Great one! My M4 Shaman was off-center with the new McCarty scales, now its near-perfect. I will check how it turns out when it's broken in and repeat as necessary :D One step closer to my Excalibur!
Thank you. Just worked on my CRK small Sebenza 31 tanto after I swapped out the lanyard and couldn’t re-center the blade well. Very frustrating. Micro movements on the right tolerance pivot screw after removing folded paper worked well.
Thanks for the helpful vid buddy. I've just got a cheap little Kershaw Bowser and the blade was starting to rub but this video gave me the confidence to open it up and clean it as well as apply a little lubricant. Blade is nicely aligned now and the action is feeling smoother than before. Top notch stuff!
thank you. i just got a new rat2 from amazon. took it apart and couldn't get it center. this worked for the most part. to get that action i want it barely leans to the right side but is closer to center than it was.
Thank you so much I got a bunch of new knifes from a buddy and this will help a ton just fixed my new flipper knife by doing this step by step much love metal complex and great videos
Got a Steel Will Cut Jack a while back that came WAY off center. Really liked the knife (with RAT1 & CJRB Feldspar for best budget knifes) but couldn’t get past the shotty centering. Watched this vid and man did it work perfect. Just sharpened it up next and now I just love this Cut Jack. Thanks man!!!
I’m glad I’m not anal about centering. I prefer it to be centered but it’s not a must. I do however absolutely must not have an over sharpened blade from the factory with messed up grinds. Hate that.
Loctite is an anaerobic adhesive which means it only works without oxygen. You'll notice that if you put some on an open surface it will not dry, so air flow has no effect on the performance. I'm going to try this method on a Kizer Swayback I have.
thank you so much for this insightful video! unfortunately i accidentally stripped one of my screws to my ontario rat 2 but i managed to get the blade relatively centered, this is the first time i've taken apart a knife so dont judge me 😂 now i know not to overly tighten body screws. but yeah this video helped alot!
Thanks for the very well done video. You are correct regarding the blue Loctite on the smaller screws. However, I recommend using the purple (222) Loctite or equivalent. Loctite brand cures by the absence of oxygen. Some brands of thread lockers don’t and those would benefit with more air flow.
Was going to say the same thing. Purple is great on body screws too if you have a knife where those loosen up on you. I only use it if needed though. Most knives are fine without.
Thanks! Sub’ed. Watched a ton of similar videos, but yours had enough more useful info to actually help me get it right. Here’s a tip in return: I find it a hell of a lot more convenient to have a second bit driver on hand when doing stuff like this, so I don’t have to keep switching bits out. I use the stubby for the part that needs the most subtlety or torque, then usually a cheapo driver can be used for the other bit. And a third if necessary etc. For me it’s one of those little things that makes the job smoother. Cheers!
Thanks for putting this video out. I've been trying to fix my spyderco Tuff for a while. It's been my favorite knife for years, but I had to disassemble it a while back because it had gotten so filthy. Normally it goes back together perfectly, but the last time I couldn't get it centered without the pivot being too tight to open, now it's much better ( still not perfect, but close ), so I'll be carrying it tomorrow!
1st thanks. 2nd. On a recon tanto or other cold steel knives you have to loosen up the screws on both sides and then tighten them up first for it to work. 👍🏿
You really do make very informative knife videos and do things exactly how I do it. I also close my eyes and very carefully adjust the pivot. This made my 801ti perform flawlessly
Thanks for watching! My Patreon - www.patreon.com/metalcomplex
Thank you for making this video, this helped me out so much and I’m so relieved so thank you

Remedies for stress relief: Yoga, diaphragmatic breathing.... and centering your blade.

@daAnder71 Ha! Copy that👍🏼
knife-enthusiasts with OCD: YES!
I actually consider sharpening like meditation. Wife thinks I'm crazy but yeah, I can get lost for hours sharpening up blades. xD
Yes. Always back to center.
I used this trick last night to fix my son's badly off-centered cheap Kershaw knife, and it worked like a charm! Thanks!
Works perfectly every time!! Not only in centering, but also usually improves the action! Thank you so much!
I just wanna say, I have been furiously trying to center a shaman that was wonky out of the box brand new and this is the only solution I have found. You sir are a genius. Thank you
Same bought a 15v shaman and the blade was off to one side. This trick fixed the problem immediately
I can't thank you enough for this public service announcement. This was very helpful ,and I was able to fix 3 knives that I just gave up on.
That's great! 👍👍
Fantastic video my friend.
I just tried your method with a benchmade bugout and it worked. Took me less than 5 minutes. thank you!
This just fixed my tenacious. In three years its never been centred even straight out the box. Than you my dude
Gonna go fix my Tenacious now lol
Just used this video to center my PM2 Tanto 🤘💪😎....... THANK YOU sooooooooo much for ALL you do for this community...... you are the MAN 🤜💥🤛
Thanks! I’ve successfully adjusted my first off center knife: a Kershaw CQC Emerson framelock. Worked beautifully.
I got the Kershaw CQC4KXL last Christmas when BladeHQ had them on sale for $20. It was so bad that it scraped, it took alot of work to get that guy even close to center, never got it perfect, but close and action is awesome now.

Thanks it worked! I did it on my Divo Mash. It was only like .5 mm off centered, but I got it perfectly centered after 1 attempt
Just bought a Kershaw Blur in S30v and the blade was slightly off center. Used your method and the blade centered perfectly! Thanks for the video MC!
Thanks, dude! This technique fixed a knife that has bugged me since the day it arrived. You're a magician!

Thank you so much for showing me this it helped me fix my wobbly flick knife back to the way I bought it!❤️
thank you so much for this insightful video! unfortunately i accidentally stripped one of my screws to my ontario rat 2 but i managed to get the blade relatively centered, this is the first time i've taken apart a knife so dont judge me 😂 now i know not to overly tighten body screws. but yeah this video helped alot!
Omg I just centered my knife!! Thank you so much!!
😊👍
Thanks for the very well done video. You are correct regarding the blue Loctite on the smaller screws. However, I recommend using the purple (222) Loctite or equivalent. Loctite brand cures by the absence of oxygen. Some brands of thread lockers don’t and those would benefit with more air flow.
Was going to say the same thing. Purple is great on body screws too if you have a knife where those loosen up on you. I only use it if needed though. Most knives are fine without.
Finally! Seen several of these tuts and cranking down the screws was to trick.
Just gonna say that this was just what I needed, thank for the upload man.
Worked like a charm on my new ZT 0357
Worked perfectly on my RAT 2 thanks brother!
This works so well! Just did it for my AD10
Congratulations on 90k. Love the magnetic lock, can't wait until it is available.
Worked perfectly on my Maxace Balance-M. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Im gunna do this to all my knives that are off center now
Now I have to do this before I can get some sleep.
👍
My zt 0470 was hitting on the side this did the trick blade perfectly centre now. 👍
Thanks! Cheers!
This method just worked for me. Thank you metalcomplex
I almost sent by benchmade Bugout the other day to benchmade. And I saw a video on how to do this also and it works perfectly
You freaking wizard!! That worked perfectly for my new Rat 2!! Thanks a lot
I got a black rat model 1 and man this worked perfectly, thank you
Thanks for putting this video out.
