Is the $30 Civivi Mini Praxis WORTH IT?

- Is the Civivi Mini Praxis the best budget knife? Is it better than the flagship Elementum? I think so, but I'm probably crazy. Right?
The Mini Praxis, for the price point ($30 USD) is amazing for what you get. I love the design, ergonomics, and value that this knife brings. It's tough and durable and can take a licking too.

Thanks for the review! I was planning on getting this for Christmas and I saw negative reviews for this knife and I was reluctant about my choice. Until I saw this video. Can't wait to get it!
You’ve made an excellent choice. I have 3 variants of the Mini Praxis, one in Ultem. It’s my best value knife of 2023. Thanks for your comment!
CIVIVI is really great quality, my first two were the elementum and the mini praxis, I like the praxis so much I bought another now I want a button lock elementum!
Great review sir !
Thanks so much!
I picked one up last week and love it. The action on it is amazing, very snappy, almost feels like assisted. I have a couple of the Elementums and their nice but like you said this just might be better!
The ergonomics and weight are what sell it to me. The action is too good for a $30 knife! Thanks for your comment!
This is a great little knife, especially on sale for $30.. even the little carrying case is nicer than I was expecting.. oh and the sticker for my laptop.. the most important part 😄
Haha glad you like it! Yeah the Mini Praxis is still one of my best budget knives, if not THE best. Interesting to see if 2024 will have a new winner on that front.
I have one myself and agree with your assessment. Good every day knife gets the job done.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment!
Subbed after I saw the analog pocket in the intro! Love to see the retro gaming community crossover into the edc scene.
Thanks SO much! I actually have another retro gaming channel (@retroperfection81) but it’s neglected. This channel takes too much of my time. Glad to have you aboard, make sure to connect with me on Instagram or Threads, I’m @chadlandman on those, and I’d love to see you on there too!
I don’t even need to watch this video hands-down, one of my favorite knives and and for the price too good
I actually just bought one at Blade show for my brother-in-law as a gift. An excellent knife, excellent ergonomics excellent price. Even if you didn’t watch, I appreciate your comment!
I picked one of these up about a month ago, and I've liked it a lot. The thin blade profile I think helps it slice and cut well.
I think it’s a great workhorse. Thanks for your comment!
@@LandmanEDC I had a hard time engaging the liner lock. Have you heard that before-
@@kiko7809 it can be a bit fiddly, sure. I understand what you’re saying. But once I got used to the feel of the knife, it wasn’t a problem.
❤ civivi knives . Looking forward to the fg and the other ziffius looking one coming soon . Both look cool
I actually haven’t heard of those, I’ll be sure to look them up! Thanks for your comment.
My current EDC, love the mini Praxis (full size is a great knife too).
It’s a great knife and you won’t be too devastated if you break it or lose it!
I bought my first 2 Civivi’s a blue elementum and green mini praxis both are excellent budget knives, made really well, im planning on getting a vision next!
I don’t believe I’ve seen the Vision, I’ll have to check that one out!
D2 steel is absolutely not the lowest of lowest grade steels. I actually find it to be the absolute best budget steel if its got a good heat treat...
Yeah that was a mistake of me to say that in the video. D2 is a fine steel.
@@LandmanEDC good man! Haha
I own a lot of civivi knives which includes 2 full sized praxis. One of them is with the Damascus steel. I’ve been debating about the mini and thank I might get one seeing you hold it. I was worried about the size in my hand.
I would say that I have decent size hands and the grip is actually pretty great. It really is a great knife for the price. Thanks so much for watching!
Bought Conspirator, Elementum 2, Qubit, vision fg, Sokoke last week. I still prefer my mini Praxis for the action, light weight, and Value.
Got a Wood/Damascus Mini Praxis as my backup EDC folder. I absolutely love it. I actually ended up returning my Elementum Button Lock II simply because I didn't enjoy using it, even if it was a better EDC knife.
Hey you make a great point - it can be a wonderful knife, but if it’s not wonderful for you, then forget it! I bet that wood/damascus Mini Praxis is 🔥 thanks for your comment!
Going to pick this up but deciding the stone wash black blade or satin finish one as I have owned black blades and they All get mared up and scratches make it look bad. Would you recommend the black or the satin blade? Thanks for a great and quick review!
The black held up very well, and I like the OD green handle on it. But if you intend thrash this thing, I’d go for the satin blade. It will be easier to clean and will look better after a beating. Thanks for watching bro!
Tjin knife is part of Mr weekly rotation an is pretty much my favorite for work. I own it on satin with black scales a d carry it 2-3 out of 5 days until I got the baby banter this week
Baby Banter is a killer knife. I love it. Never even heard of the Tjin but I’ll be sure to check it out!
Bad about losing my knives so I buy em cheap and I've had a couple of Mini Praxis knives. You really can't get a better knife for 30 bucks imo. The craftsmanship for how cheap thy are is outstanding and I love American made stuff as much as the next guy
You’re absolutely right. I love American made as well - but when the quality is this good, I don’t care where it comes from honestly. Thanks for your comment.
I think there are some Civivi models that merits an upgrade, like a button lock and maybe a better kind of steel (for ex.14c28n, nitro-v, 154cm, s35vn, etc.); the Praxis is one of these, but also the Pintail or the Baklash.
The full size Praxis has a button lock coming in October I believe!
@@LandmanEDC Really?! this a great news thanks a lot!
I love your videos but altoid cans are made from tin . l just watched your 8 year edc all great information ! I'm fixing to subscribe and plan to watch everything you put out.
Thank you! Yeah, I say dumb things when I’m not scripted. Aluminum isn’t magnetic. Thank you for subscribing!
I've had pretty good luck with D2 in several knives.
Same here. People hate on D2 and I'm not sure why. It's a fine steel.
Are your Civivi and Amazon links affiliated?
Yes sir, thise links should be in the description.
D2 is far from lowest of the low
You’re right, I should not have said that. D2 is a fine steel, a lot of elitists tend to hate on it though. Sorry that came through in the video from me.
@@LandmanEDC
People hate on D2 because of bad experience with trashy overseas D2 that is usually too soft. When D2 is done right it can rival 154CM.
@perceptionvsreality3333 Agree
I hate these are from China, but the D2 they use isn’t crap. At least they aren’t a rip off of someone else’s design though.
The ergo metric of that knife is really good, but far from the perfect EDC blade. Steel is cheap. I just lost mine today and, yes, again, it's a good knife for the price. But, you get what you pay. I'm 💯 sure it won't survive a hard beat up work because the steel loq quality. I'm buying it again today because I'm trained and muscle memory for that opening. I wear that knife on a daily basis and weekends while on my boat and kayaks or fishing. Again, still is.not really that good and you'll feel it after using it 10 times.
ive been looking into getting one and noticed on their website they have a "Polished Ultem Handle" version coming up for $46.50. it looks really cool because the handle is see through. Wondering if it's just as good as the regular mini praxis handle?
I am getting the Ultem handle one TODAY actually (Oct 6). They don’t go on sale until the 15th, but Civivi sent me one and I’ll be glad to share some first impressions on the channel here.
If Civivi plans to make their Ultem knives that affordable I’ll definitely pick up all of them for sure. I’m crazy about Ultem.
What’s y’all’s opinion on using this knife for skinning a deer/ hog ?
This knife would be excellent for that. The grip especially. And at 30 bucks you don’t have to worry about it getting beat up.
Own one as well, it'd be excellent for that. I'd argue it's probably one of the best suited knives at the price point for that job.
Lol do that with the larger one.
I love button locks. I want that elementum button lock. I got a chevalier from civivi and love it
I am really starting to love the button lock Elementum 2. Taking it on a trip this week as my only carry. We will see!
I would love a chevalier mini
$29.95 Amazon and same day bought yesterday
Sweet! You really can't get any better for 30 bucks IMO
Im afraid it might open up in my pocket when using the clip.
Because the blade folds down, when using the clip
Carried this knife for months and that’s never happened. It has a small catch with it takes just a tiny bit of force to get the blade to flip out from the tab. So that’s not an issue.
Thanks! I've just ordered this knife =)
D2 is not by far the lowest grade of the lowest grade.
You’re correct 👍🏼
$30 is too much for this dollar-store quality steel. Chinese junk steel in a nice action/design. Ok for fiddling or in a collection but does not hold an edge if used. Save your coin for better steel.
Sorry but you’re wrong brother. Do you own this knife? Because I do, and I’ve carried it for over a year and it’s been marvelous. D2 isn’t “dollar store” steel, get outta here with that
@@LandmanEDC , Yep, I own it. Must’ve got the 5:00 Friday heat treat batch because it looses its edge quicker than a fool parts with his money.
@@LandmanEDC , I sent it back for testing, might be a QC anomaly that slipped through the cracks, I’ll update when I hear back.
@@ctusser I hope it is. My experience has been pretty stellar with these blades. Good to hear from you man!
