    OBD2 Smog procedure for Older Ford like the Escort, for all the ford drive procedures and tips please watch the video and comment so I can help you. This Ford Emission drive cycle will also work for Mercury, Lincoln, and even Mazda.
    Pre-Conditioning Requirements:
    ·Park on Level Ground
    · MIL must be off.
    · No DTCs present - Pending.
    · Cold start (Preferred: 8 hour soak with engine between 68
    and 86 º F at start-up)
    · Fuel fill is between 15 & 85 %.
    · All accessories OFF.
    Driving Procedure
    1) Start vehicle and idle for five minutes.
    2) Rev the engine in neutral or park to 2,300-2,700 rpm for 15 seconds.
    3) Rev the engine in neutral or park to 3,800-4,200 rpm for 15 seconds.
    4) Idle the engine for 20 seconds with cooling fan stopped.
    5) Accelerate to 52-55 MPH, maintain speed (in high gear) for 1 ½ minutes.
    6) Decelerate to 15 MPH, and then drive for 13 minutes at speeds ranging
    from 15 to 35 MPH.
    7) Maintain a steady 25 MPH for 50 seconds.

      Yeah and pay an extra $2000 for the same part because it’s California approved. Theft of time and money. I think reducing vehicle is great but questionable drive monitors that are getting more complicated doesn’t not really help. Thanks again for sharing.

    This helped me set the catalyst monitor on my 2020 Ford Ranger. One thing was to do the stop go driving in 4th gear to keep the rpm up at 3000 rpm. Many thanks!!

      Yes I wish it was simple too and most of time when the vehicle is newer the vehicle set all the monitors fast but the issue is when everything ages.

    Put your vehicle in D2 then drive between 25-45 mph. D2 increases throttle so you will be at half throttle through all the speed ranges.

    Exceptional !!!! One question though for a 2010 Mercury gran Marquee. My OBDII kicked out a DTC P0128 - "Coolant Thermostat Temperature Below Regulating Temperature" My car has a common problem with the A/C Hot Cold Blend Door Actuator sticking and making a bump bump noise and hot and cold air coming out wrong vents (defrost core diverting???) Could this be causing the DTC P0128??

      Not likely but try this. As soon as turn on the vehicle turn on the air conditioner and proceed as normal. The additional load on the engine from air conditioning running may cause the engine to heat up a little faster and you may avoid the p128 popping back up before you smog the vehicle. Only try this after you have cleared the check engine light. So clear the codes the night before, rest the car overnight and then proceed. Let me know how it goes it worth a try .
      If this doesn’t work you have other issues that you need to fix before you pass a smog test.

    How do you speed up the Secondary Air and Evap to ready? I've driven over 500 miles for a span of 2 weeks and still not complete. I have no check engine and vacuum hoses look good.

      You can't speedup anything but you can focus better. For the secondary focus on a longer warm up and for the evap keep your fuel level within range and park on a level surface. The evap is exempt even in California.

    Hello, First of let me start by giving you my gratitude for all your videos that helped me a lot.
    I have been working in the drive cycle in a 2010 Ford F150 5.4L. Every monitor is complete but Heater and O2 sensor. I just did the 4 minutes @40 mph over 8 times waiting 1 minute between cycle and nothing. I drove the truck over 4 days all day and nothing. I have no check engine light or code. Can I have a bad O2 heater without a check engine light on?
    Tomorrow I going to take out the o2 sensors to check continuity in the heaters and clean them up.

      Today I took out both upstream 02 sensors and checked the heater terminal for continuity like you explain in another video and continuity is good. I cleaned both sensors and blow them with compressed air. Took the truck and tried the 4 minutes @ 40mph for 5 times and drove the truck for a couple of hours with no success. 😕

    I have a 2013 mazda cx5…only my o2 monitor and evap aren’t ready i’ve driven easily 100+ miles since clearing codes. I only need the o2 to pass what can i do specifically to get the o2 to be ready? I have no pending codes either.

    This is an insane amount of steps and seemingly impossible if you live in a city. Even the outskirts of town i'd have to be getting on and off the highway every 20 seconds

    ? Is it possible to lift the drive wheels off the ground and proceed the cycle it's just something I'm trying to avoid doing an actual road drive cycle

      Lifting the vehicle off the ground would be advisable and could damage the engine and transmission if run it for a long time with no load.

    I have a 2007 Ford E 150 van with 4.6 motor. It has 200k miles on it.
    My cats are not monitoring for smog. Everyone tell me to just keep driving it Ive driven over 700 miles since last check engine light was on. Im figuring if cat or sensors were bad it would be a check engine light correct? Any suggestions?

      What was the previous code before you drove the 700 miles with the check engine light light off? Is the catalyst monitor the only incomplete monitor?

      @@RANDOMFIX it was a thermostat fault. i took care of it. cleared the codes and been runing it over 700 miles now. everyday to work an back. no check engine lights. i recently saw that i may be running odb 1 instead of odb2 which would fail me.. ive tied the drive cycles. no luck.

    I have a 2013 Ford Transit Connect that won’t complete the EGR monitor only plus has no codes or pending codes but I’m gonna try the specific drive cycle for that before looking into diagnosing the EGR system and the EGR itself. Thanks 🙏 for this.

      RANDOMFIX so first off thank you for your help RANDOMFIX. All my monitors are up and passed except for the EGR monitor. The EGR is brand new and the ports to the head are not blocked up. Everything else is good far as battery and coolant. There are no codes or pending codes at all. Maybe I’m not doing the drive cycle good enough.
      Any suggestions or tips?

      I think these transits need to see three passes of at least 20 minutes each. If you have not pending codes, just continue.

    Have a 1998 Ford Expedition 4.6L unable to get cat and Evap monitors to reset do keep fuel level between 3/4 to 1/4 question 4R70w transmission I do get a converter shutter after awhile will that cause a knock sensor code throws p0325 pending code only not hard code has new battery question will cuase those 2 monitors not to set

      Yes pending codes will keep monitoring from setting. The evap is not as important as the catalyst monitor.

    Do you know what a U1900 ABS Code is? I have that and a P1900

      The u1900 is for CAN COMMUNICATION BUS FAULT - RECEIVE ERROR and p1900 will set The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set when the OSS "output shaft speed" sensor signal to the PCM is irregular or interrupted.
      The connection for both, the abs issue is common on some ford's and you It will not stop you from passing a smog test. but the p1900 is power train code and will need to fixed. There is a small possiblity that your pcm is bad only replace after checking oss sensor.

    I have a 2003 F150 Lightning. Has P1000 code due to EGR and Catalysts sensors not ready. Troubleshot the EGR system ok and drove the truck 400 miles and still not ready. Help!

      P1000 set when the drive is incomplete. Your catalyst and egr may take a little longer since your truck is almost 18 years old. Focus on coasting for the egr and high speed driving for the catalyst. I left more detailed information in the video about your exact truck non lighting additional.

    My 2013 Mustang has no CEL but since the battery was changed 4 weeks ago the Catalyst Monitor, Fuel System Monitor, Oxygen Sensor Monitor and HTR is incomplete. Hopefully this method works because I need to get mine smogged next week. Thanks

      @@RANDOMFIX I’ll try this out when the road is empty past midnight this weekend. But I have one question since I have my EGR, EVAP AND CCM ready, so I still have to do those steps or can I just skip to the ones that I need to activate like HEGO, Catalytic and Fuel Monitor? Like without starting all over doing the steps that I don’t have to do anymore since those codes are already ok

      You can skip right to unset monitors but you have more than one unset monitor so it might just be better to start from scratch but do not reset ( erase) the current data. Just start off with a cold start with 3/4 tank of gas and I'm sure it will set pretty soon. Good luck and keep me the loop.

      @@anonym0usHaxxx well it seemed that doing an oil change fixed the problem. I'd drive it as the tech said to but didn't do anything. Only after the oil change was I able to pass.

    My 2000 V6 California Camry could never clear the last monitor (EVAP) for the last 6+ years so far. Check engine light cycles on for 100 miles then off for another 100 miles in an endless loop. Light on or off it drives fine. It started at around 100K miles, no problem before. When check engine light goes off with the remaining last monitor I was able to get it pass smog and hope it doesn't cycle back to the check engine light on during the test. Feels like playing Russian roulette. What a major PIA, this and doing tax returns!

    I have a 2001 Ford F150 with the 5.4 L. I took it to the Ford dealership because it never went emissions ready. They told me to keep driving it until it was ready. I put over 1000 miles on it and it never went ready. I'm going to have to try this procedure when I get a chance.

      I have a 2001 Expedition with the 5.4 Liter (2) Valve Engine. Ford doesn't make the PCM for this Engine anymore. I'm on my third Remanufactured/ used PCM and still no luck getting the Cat and EVAP Monitors to become ready for Emissions testing. The Truck has new Spark Plugs and Coil Packs. I'm a Mechanical Engineer and specialize in Automotive Diagnostics. I'm currently working with a Ford Master Tech to help resolve the issue.
      I'm a Master Tech too, but they say Team work makes the Dream work.
      Wish me luck.
      Here is my theory on what's really happening with these Old Ford PCM's. The EVAP & CAT Computer Chips are shot, and are not interpreting the input data to the respective chips inside the PCM.
      It's old fashioned Planned Obsolescence.

    I have a 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0. I have driven over 500 miles. Catalyst is still not ready. No DTC. The car does not have an exhaust. Is it possible that is the problem?

      If the vehicle does not have an exhaust like a catalyst converter than yes but it's only missing a a muffler than most likely not. Please define what you mean by exhaust, thanks

      The vehicle has the full catalytic converters. Bank 1 and bank 2 sensors are in place. The exhaust past the catalytic converter was disconnected by the previous owner. But upstream and downstream sensors are in place according to OEM spec

      Hi Dee, focus on a proper warm for the o2 sensor heater monitor. Then o2 oxygen senor monitor and once you set the o2 monitor then focus on catalyst monitor. Have you checked the connection on the upstream o2 sensor?

      Exactly, idle without moving the ranger. 15 minutes or longer. If that doesn't help set the o2 heater monitor, check then connection and o2 heater element with a digital volt meter.

      Michael the f150 is 19 years old and so the catalyst. The long your drive at steady speed the better. The only way you can know it got ready is by having a bidirectional obs2 reader which at at 50 dollars. I can recommend on. Please see my other videos on the smog tips playlist as there are products that have helped other but are only temporary solutions. Let me know if you need any recommendations on the obd2 reader.

    What is a vehicle/engine qualifier and how do you "select it?" Do you have to?
    If, for example, your CAT isn't set, can you go straight to step 7 without having to reset the PCM and everything? Do you have to do the whole key on/off/on/run thing every time you want to do a test?
    how do you reset the PCM and do you have to in order to get the CAT test to run?
    These seem like important details that you glossed over with no explanation. Nobody ever explains them but just reads directly from the ford drive cycle instructions which don't explain them either...
    If you only have a few monitors not set (CAT and EVAP in my case), can you just try to do the drive tests for those specific monitors any time? Or do you have to start back over at step 1?
    I have no check engine lights and everything but CAT and EVAP are set and I've been trying and trying to get them to go but nothing is happening. I know that EVAP isn't required but I can't get the CAT test to run after trying everything I can think of. (1999 Ford).

      Alex, you can focus just on the catalyst monitor, what model of the of a 1999 ford do you have? Miles? And what caused the monitor to unset ( example dead battery) ?

    NOW the tough. one my Ford Expedition 1999 it has not passed the drive cycle for the last 6 years. I have the smog shop, local mechanic tell me go somewhere else. I have contacted Bureau of Automotive Repair, and the dealer.

    OMG! Why is this so freaking complicated? I'm not a mechanic or car person in any way shape or form. I just need my 2013 Escape to pass freaking smog check to get my registration. They told me at the smog place to drive it 100 miles. Will that work or not? Also, do I really have to go and buy one of those OBD monitor things that I can't afford?
