    These drive cycles are insane we should be given access to a private track to complete all these procedures.

    I did this drive cycle this morning after driving all day with three of my sensors not ready. After doing the drive cycle, the final two sensors turned ready and I can have my inspection the following day. I appreciate the walkthrough and explanation.
    For me, the success of the drive cycle was the upon cold startup, turning on the defroster, AC…anything that can put as much electrical load on the system as possible. I didn’t do this prior and it made for a long day.
    Also it is truly best to do the drive cycle early in the morning or late at night, preferably on the weekend as it’s when a lot of people sleep in. It made for a lot less concern and anxiety if you can only do this on a road that is often traveled at 65 mph minimum.

    I finally got the drive cycle completed for my 2016 Chevy Tahoe. Great instructions. Just a couple things I had to do differently.
    My O2 sensor would not set while I was trying to performing my drive cycle. I was about to give up and parked, let the car idle for a few minutes with the air and defrost on and turned off the vehicle. I waited a few minutes and started driving at 55mph for 3 minutes with no aie or defrost and it set.
    Each time I allowed the car to coast below 20mph, I pressed the brakes before I started the next step in the drive cycle. (Before when I didn't hit the brakes below 20mph, it would not set)
    I also purchased the ob2 reader you recommended and it's so much easier I don't have to manually hitting the buttons and keep checking the meter.

      Thank for sharing your success on your 2016 Chevy, yeah the extra load from the air conditioning and rear defrost really helps with o2 monitor. This o2 trick is used mostly on honda but I’m see success with on all makes and models. Thank you again for taking the time to post your experience.

The smog place wanted me to drive 200+miles over the course of 15 drive cycles to get all the systems set. Found this video and got almost all sensors done in less than an hour. In California they allow the evap not to be completed. But if you had a previous evap code you repaired and cleared all DTC’s it still stores in the I/M trouble codes as a permanent code until the evap monitor has completed and no DTC is set to verify repairs have been made. They will fail you even if there’s nothing wrong with the vehicle and you have no codes present.

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  24 дні тому

      Yes you are right but there is still a way around as the the allow for the 15/200 rule.

      @@RANDOMFIX failed me out right today due to a “ permanent code” for a fuel pressure sensor that I just replaced. Went to BAR’s website today and found out the cause is because permanent codes cannot be cleared manually only the ECM can clear them once the monitor is completed and it verifies the repair has been completed. I don’t smog cars anymore it’s been some time and apparently this is a new thing started in 2019 affecting vehicles from 2011 and newer. BAR states it’s a issue they are currently working on with the state of California because it’s causing some issues. From what I see it wasn’t the shop that failed me it was automated by the smog machine. I just watched your video about the 15/200 rule, I did read that on BAR’s website as well. Thank you for your reply and your videos

So, I'll have to drive to different highways to get them all done.

    Had a catalyst monitor that wouldn't set (2007 Tahoe) but your video info worked in just 45 minutes. BUT, I then stopped and filled the gas tank, upon leaving the DIC started saying over and over that the stabilizer system was off, so, I then stopped and shut off the engine and the stabilizer thing went away but now have 4 monitors that are not set including the catalyst one. Maybe a ground? I am at a loss.

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  Місяць тому

      Yeah I have heard of monitor information getting lost after each turn off so yes it could be a ground. The question is if you set a monitor now and turn off the vehicle will it lose the monitor data again?

    • @Alaskabobb100
      @Alaskabobb100 Місяць тому

      @@RANDOMFIX Right, I need this vehicle, so I am cleaning up all the grounds I can find, and adding a few to any ground wire I can find. It was a Michigan car, now Arizona, has rust and corrosion in places. Adding grounds body to frame, body to engine. I assume the main ECU is the fault because there are several different types of monitors that now need setting. So I will try to find a wiring diagram and try to re-ground it, the OBD2 port did not work at first, so I unplugged then replugged in the big cable bundle connectors on the ECU and now it works. I have since blown it out with air and replugged it several times to kind of clean the terminals on the connectors. Any advice would be helpful.

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2007 Sub with only 74 miles. Check engine light turned on with OBD code P0446 (Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit 1/1. I've replaced the gas cap, vapor vent canister valve, vapor jumper wire and the Emissions Vapor Canister Purge Valve Solenoid EVAP Vent ( I don't think it's necessary but I did it anyway). Cleared it and the check engine light is gone but after driving 93 miles, the I/M is still not ready with a combo drive of city and fwy. Drove it for another mile and after 6 cycles, when I ran the OBD at 94 miles to see if it's I/M ready, unfortunately I see the same "pending" P0446 code despite driving it up to 110 miles hoping it will clear on it's own. So I decided to erase the pending code/OBD and did the same thing again. Drove it up to 92 miles without check engine, still not I/M ready and at 94 miles later it's still not ready and the "pending" p0446 code is back. Replaced the vapor vent canister valve, vapor jumper wire again just in case I have a bad part, but unfortunately pending P0446 code is back. I'm hesitating on replacing the vapor canister/charcoal cause I don't have an issue filling up gas and no gas odor around the area too. Could it be the another bad vent valve? fuel tank pressure solenoid? I hope not... cause I know this is pretty common on the 2006 but not on the 2007.
    Cleared it for the 3rd and 4th time, gas level is between 3/4 or 1/2 and the pending code is on after 10 miles but still not I/M ready. Should I just keep going and repeat the drive cycle until it clears or do I need to change the ftp and the V.C. Charcoal too? I'd really appreciate yours suggestion cause I need to pass smog. One last question below;
    I heard I can pass with a pending code as long as no check engine light is lit. But can I pass smog with 1 pending code and evap not ready but everything else are?

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  2 роки тому +3

      Yes, you should be good with no check engine light and evap monitor that not ready even if you have pending code. Don't wait too long as the code might trigger the check engine light. If they technician checks with the cheap little scanner before he smogs he may turn you away because he doesn't want it to count against his passing data or stats so then go to another station. I know it's annoying and a waste of time!!!!

Came home, hooked up the scanner and all monitors are set except the EVA and that one does not need to be set in order to pass. So my guess is the o2 sensor heater is something that needs several cold starts before it will set. In my case there were 4. Or maybe the heater is just weak. IDK. But it's all good and I am very happy about that.

      INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE COMPLETE SYSTEM SET PROCEDURE
      DIAGNOSTIC INSTRUCTIONS
       Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
       Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
       Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.
      DESCRIPTION
      The purpose of the Inspection/Maintenance Complete System Set Procedure is to satisfy the enable
      criteria necessary to execute all of the I/M readiness diagnostics and complete the drive cycles for those
      particular diagnostics. When all I/M monitored diagnostic tests are completed, the I/M System Status
      indicators are set to YES. Perform the Inspection/Maintenance Complete System Set Procedure if any
      I/M System Status indicators are set to NO.
      Inspection/Maintenance Data List
      To determine if the inspection/maintenance readiness diagnostic tests can be run this ignition cycle, use
      a scan tool to observe the inspection/maintenance monitor enabled parameters in the
      inspection/maintenance Data List.
      CONDITIONS FOR MEETING A COLD START
       The ignition voltage between 11-18 volts.
       The barometric pressure is more than 75 kPa (10.73 PSI).
       The start-up engine coolant temperature is between 4-30°C (39-86°F).
       The start-up intake air temperature is between 4-30°C (39-86°F).
       The difference between the IAT and the ECT is less than or equal to 6°C (10.8°F).
       The ambient air temperature is between 4-30°C (39-86°F).
       The fuel level is between 15-85 percent.
      CIRCUIT/SYSTEM VERIFICATION
      Review the inspection/maintenance system status indicators with a scan tool. All I/M system status
      indicators should report YES, and no I/M Test DTCs should be present.
      INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE SYSTEM SET PROCEDURE
      NOTE: Whenever the ignition is turned ON, ignition positive voltage is supplied to the heated oxygen
      sensor (HO2S) heaters. After verifying the enable criteria, turn OFF the ignition for approximately 5
      minutes to allow the sensors to cool before continuing with the test. Once the engine is started, do
      NOT turn the engine OFF for the remaining portion of the set procedure.

      I would not continue to drive unless you have not done a proper warm cycle. So just start the hummer and let idle for over 15 minutes, make sure not to move or touch the gas pedal. If that doesn't work I would seek professional assistant. Is the ho2 the monitor that not set?

    The creator, I have a 08 Chevy HHR, failed due to monitor not ready, EVAP, 02S, HRT.. now EVAP is ready but not 02S, HRT. But I note you say key out ignition.. the key stays in all night so prior to any cold start key is in. Is this why them two will not go ready? I put new battery in before putting up for sale, getting smog here in Cali I was made aware of the not ready. So failed test due to not ready. The EVAP was 2weeks to be ready. But as of right this minute 02S, HRT is still unready. So pulling the key for the over night cool down, then doing cold start will get these two unready to go ready?? I have no check codes and no repair needed. Just need to get 02S, and HRT to go ready..

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  2 роки тому

      Cold start in the morning and just let vehicle idle for a long time ( 20 minutes). You need to get that 02 heater monitor ready first and then focus the o2 monitor. Please check all your grounds and if this does not work, check o2 sensor connections to ensure everything is clean and nice tight. Keep me in the loop. Why did the inspection monitor data get deleted in the first place?

      Got it, just focus on that the long warm up. There is a product that I use for catalyst and it's suppose to help with o2 sensor but it would do any good if the connection is got good. If you get access to that o2 sensor, it's pretty easy to access on the hhr, disconnect the connection ( engine off) and make sure all is clean. The o2 heater is built into the upstream O2 sensor so the one before the catalytic converter.

So the event happened but not sure when. But rechecking and it's still clear no codes and IM ready.. so I guess from what I've been told is these HHR are funny with certain things, another haunting is tire pressure on dash will go --. --. And remote start will drop off.. this one still good but hopefully anything else will wait till I no longer have it.

      For the egr try coasting to under 20 Moh once you reach 65 Mph. The evap is a more complicated as I covered that in video. Keep you fuel between 1/4 to 3/4 and park on a level surface. Park for a least 8 hours and check to see if the evap is exempt in your state.
