    Some saying its a "joke". But there's an Spanish quote that says "entre broma y broma, la verdad se asoma" which translates more on less too "between jokes, the truth sneaks up" sort of thing. If the company wouldn't be used to giving those treatments, everybody would have taken as a joke... But almost nobody did so, perhaps that speaks louder than anything else.

      im pretty sure pizzaslime paid influencers , and probably even tea channels like this one to talk about them (“and make sure you mention the brand as much as possible but without being too obvious”)as if everybody knew them, just so people would go “never heard of pizzaslime in my life”, look them up and give them a boost on the algorithm. This strategy is quite well know in Brazilian internet actually (there are even companies that do this specific type of sneaky digital marketing) and although I have never seen it being used in American internet yet (but im sure it has been) I spotted the similarities right away. Its fascinating the lengths that people will go to in order to fake an “organic growth” on social media.

    I'm chronically online but had never heard of pizza slime before, probably because I'm not super well versed in a lot of mainstream influencer stuff. I think that two things can be true - this could have been a joke on pizza slime's part and it just fell flat, meanwhile revolve was like "oh cool, this will, play into our exclusivness aura".

      I totally agree with you! Okay pizzaslime is known for their jokes but Revolve hired them! The signs weren’t a joke and everyone knows that. It’s super cringe to me to put up any kind of sign 🪧 saying “If you have this many subscribers enter here and if you have over a million subscribers enter here” it’s giving cringey 😬 vibes if you think about the history of signs and surrogating people. It’s tacky and in poor taste, in my opinion.

    • @lalacarroll431
      @lalacarroll431 5 місяців тому

      @@Notnatasha They had two separate sections for the event. I believe that’s why people and the influencer’s were so confused and unhappy about it. Brands have been doing this “tier list” for a while now. It’s all about how many “followers” you have. If you have more you receive better PR, gifts and trips and parties than say someone with 300,000 followers. They are still treated with parties, free products but not on the scale of someone who has a million followers.
      I just feel like segregating people by their “follower count” is not a good look for multiple reasons. I hope that makes sense.

    I think if only the big influencers like Tana know about PizzaSlime, who is making fun of influencer culture, doesn't that miss the point of satire? It's an inside joke for a super small subset of influencers who know them, but if you aren't in on the "lore" it's not a joke. A joke goes both ways - it requires both a joker and an audience, and if the audience doesn't "get" it, then it's not a funny joke but just tonedeaf. It feels like they wanted to have it both ways - the hierarchy of influencer status, but also the fallback of "it's a joke, it's everyone's beloved pizzaslime". But if no one knows pizzaslime that card doesn't work.

The situation worked in their favor regardless but it’s kinda tacky to address backlash (warranted or not) with “it’s a joke it’s what we’re known for!” When the people they’re addressing had no context whatsoever. can we get videos from them too?
    and proof they were with her at this festival?
    did someone tired to go for the less than 1m and had more than 1m,and was denied? and vise versa too

    I think they thought hard on what they were doing with that sign and won in 3 ways: 1. created a viral moment for the brand (ragebait), 2. passing it up as a joke/mocking influencer culture which could win over that crowd and get authenticity points (also scapegoat by having it as a joke) and 3. actually sepreating people by followers as many of them wouldn't know it was a joke. So they essentially did successfully sepreate people by followers in a sneaky way. I also think the 1 mil crowd would've felt like an inclusive, superior club making them more inclined to hype up the brand if they feel they're getting better treatment.

    The outrage about the signs is so cringey. What a first-world problem. These influencers are trying to be elitist celebrities when people get categorized in Hollywood as well! A-list, B-list, ect. Us regular plebs don’t care because we have actual problems and influencers take themselves way too seriously.

      @Samanthasspace 6 місяців тому +1

      They're an online clothing brand (think like Princess Polly, Boohoo, etc.) They just throw these huge events during festivals so influencers will talk about the brand and hopefully wear their clothes

    I feel like yes it was a joke but not in an innocent way, there’s a darker more sinister meaning behind these signs and this collab in general. Because with this revolve is basically saying “Yes we sort you all out by follower count haha deal with it” like they are proud of it and don’t care that everyone thinks it’s cheap and a disturbingly icky move! Joke or not i would have left that party too.

    I dont see the problem. They are there because of the followers they get deals bc of followers. Maybe followers for influencers are the same thing as the work experience for other people (?). If you do good work you get a better treatment.
    Maybe its mean but not problematic.

    Idk about anyone else, but to me the "pizzaslime" on the signs looks handwritten, almost like revolve wanted people to think it was a joke when it wasn't. Plus, if they wanted people to know it was a joke I would've at least made it more obvious. Also people are really saying "everyone should know about pizzaslime" when this drama is probably the first time they're hearing about it like me 😂
