@@haqbaatalimirza2919 I know this is probably satire but touching piranhas (or "insects") is safe in some cases due to hitboxes. Rather than wasting valuable resources checking if Mario is touching a plant exactly every frame, it has a hitbox, which is what the game actually checks for. If Mario touches the hitbox, he dies. If Mario touches the sprite (art for the enemy) but not the hitbox, he lives.

This was the first Mario WR video I watched right after it happened. Crazy to think the record is over 2 seconds lower as of today (9/29/23) - niftski is too good!
Badabun stole parts of this run and passed it off as his own.
Badabun stole a TAS, not this run. Unless he also used this run in one of his videos somehow? Lots of folks flooding in here here after Karl's video it seems.

Furthermore, i'd like to add that world record speedruns get a lot more attention from leaderboard moderators and high-tier players, there is no way that this is faked. Someone would've caught something off about it, Period.
Crazy to think that this run isn't even in the top 20 now. Darbian certainly helped pave the way for speed running this game.

Honestly this is an incredible 8-4 for the time and still today. Sometime you forget how good these guys were at the time they performed these legendary runs. It’s so much easier to get better times now since we have so much more knowledge. Gg darbian even if it is a few years late🤣

It does indeed look sketchy at first, yes, especially when you compare with a 30+ years old memory of you playing the game. Though instead of imagining the possiblity that it can be real, people instantly go to "CHEATER!!".
I just try to open up people's mind a bit on the matter. Some are just trolls, but if I do manage to teach someone something, or maybe change someone's mind if needed, that's always a nice feeling for me. Nonetheless, I just do this for fun after all =).

But remember that this is not the entire game. He only played 8 out of the 32 levels (he used warps to skip world 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7). If you wanna see a complete (while still fast) run , look for Warpless Speedrun

Right to everyone coming here and accusing of hacks because he "passed through a phirannah" or "he was in that goomba" just remember this came out in 1985 and the enemies have bad hit boxes, also all the "it says 4.57 in the timer not 4.56" the timer is manual and not exactly accurate so to get an exact time we count the frames the game was going for and calculate it. If you don't believe me go either watch everyone else's runs of this game, or read up on it before posting a butt hurt comment, cheers

I completed this when i was 5 back in 1990 while my older brothers were at school. They were five years older than me and I completed before them. They were surprised to say the least. I remember playing on one of those old style televisions with the extra pane of glass in front of the actual tv screen, it had wooden sides too. I cant believe i can still remember doing it
