I can't agree more as a former cabin crew member. Even the smallest compliment from a happy passenger makes your day. Like Alex, show them you love your job and proudness to represent your company. A smile doesn't cost anything and always works both ways. A part from that it looks like they maintain a high standard and quality on their product. Hope to fly their company one day! :)
Having worked in customer service in the past I now always strive to be as nice to others working in a similar circumstances as I can and praise, where appropriate, those working hard to meet our expectations (it costs nothing). They have to mostly deal with a lot of very difficult and sometimes unpleasant people and a smile and a thank you can go a long way to improve a difficult day. Having said that, there are some people working in customer facing situations who should never have been put there.
I learned a few decades ago as a manager in health care that patients were 10 times more likely to complain than to compliment. It's why I always, always answer all surveys sent to me, not just when I'm dissatisfied. And yes, there are times in some situations where I will call a business back just to let the manager know that he/she has an excellent employee who treated me well. Please, do it.
Safety tip Josh; don’t put on slippers (or remove your shoes) until you are up in the air. So that you’ll be able to get away safely in case of a pre-take off evacuation. Love your work!

thanks for this Josh. And yes - always tell cabin crew if you think they've done a good job. I flew Toulouse to London on BA a few months ago, business (but yes, European), and the the hard product was pretty bad, and the soft product not great, but the crew were wonderful. As I was leaving I told them how much I appreciated their work. One of them was almost in tears. They are on the sharp end, and when things go wrong they bear the brunt of it, even though it is almost never their fault.
Hi Josh ! On the difference between Reunion island and New Caledonia : France as a country is divided into 101 "départements" which are administrative regions, 5 of which are considered "overseas departments" and Reunion island is one of them : the exact same rules and laws apply to Reunion as Metropolitan France, currency is the same, administration is the same, same representation in French parliament...in short , it's pretty much a piece of France in a different part of the world. Now, New Caledonia is considered an "Oversea territory" - it is technically part of France - and its people have voted at 96.5% in favour of remaining attached to France two years ago - but it does retain much greater autonomy in its rules, administration and overall decision making than a "département" such as Reunion Island. A bit like a federal state attached to France. The currency is also different : it its the "Franc Pacifique" that also applies to other French territories in the Pacific such as French Polynesia. In New Caledonia, there is an ongoing transition towards greater autonomy that will potentially lead to full independence at some point, although it is hard to measure the exact will of local people, the independence party having called for a boycott of the latest referendum (hence the very high outcome in favour of remaining part of France, perhaps...). One must also bear in mind that there is also an underlying appetite from countries like China to rid France of its influence in the Pacific, side with locals in the hope of greater autonomy, then strategically takeover in some shapes of form for military, geopolitic or commercial purposes ( New Caledonia is the World's 4th largest Nickel producer...). I hope this helps !

Flew through Narita in 1988 on a JAL 747 from Heathrow to Auckland, stopping off in Narita! Got the shock of my life with the poor standard of the place. The toilets, at that time, were underground and in an abysmal state! Went to the bar??? and ordered an orange juice, they charged US$10 and some odd cents, or should I say, tried to! I told the guy, very politely, to put it back in the bottle, and left! The airline itself was marvellous! Wife traveled, with my daughter, some years after Narita was revamped. Said it wasn’t too bad but not as good as Singapore.

Thank you so much for all this timely information, Josh. I'm flying Air Calin for the first time next month. I start on their A320neo from Vanuatu to New Caledonia. Then I'm also staying at the Gondwana City Green hotel, which like you I chose due to the excellent reviews and location. You've reassured me of my choice. It looks perfect for 3 nights. I'm happy I've pre-booked my transfer through the hotel. Then, I'm on Air Calin's A330neo from Nouméa to Singapore. Same seat - 5H. It will be amazing if Alex is my flight attendant!
Awesome video. Thanks Josh, and also.... Thanks for all of your smiles and being an excellent great example, Alex. You've made long hours flying so comfortable with your sophisticated service. Greatly appreciated 👍🏽🥰👍🏽
I've not flown with Aircalin, but I've flown out of Noumea to Australia with another airline. Everyone at the airport was helpful and friendly. Very French! You ought to try Air Nuigini. I flre with them from Port Moresby to Brisbane some years ago on an older 747. The plane wa perfectly acceptable, the food excellent and the cabin crew very attentive. One of the best flights I've ever had.
I agree with your views on Narita. in addition to that, I'd say the location is just so strange and surprisingly early in the evening the airport gets a deserted/rather spooky vibe.
Agree with you re Narita, I avoid it if possible. I find it cold and confusing - but I've only ever been to the JAL terminal 2. Give me Haneda any day.
Your mileage may vary depending on where you board the plane. I would expect cabin to be cleaner and catering to be above average coming out of NRT. at least that’s my experience as opposed to say flying out of US airports, so you may have a different experience flying out of Noumea.
Between Haneda and Narita, I prefer Haneda for it's closer proximity to central Tokyo and also for the smaller number of international passengers that pass through in comparison to Narita. Though Narita isn't a bad airport, and Narita city itself is very nice to explore. Also, I was quite surprised (from what I saw in your video), the amount of Katakana on signs in New Caledonia. I wasn't aware that New Caledonia was that much of a popular tourist destination for Japanese tourists.
Looks like the pilot didn't miss a single runway center line light on takeoff :) I flew Air Calin a couple of times on the old, phased out A330 and was always happy with the good standard, the crew is most of the times a bit cold and reserved, but who cares anyway if you just want to have a good nap 😎
You're so right Josh. Ive flown from/to NRT more than 100 times (I live in Japan) and, yes NRT is weirdly odd. I always put this down to its construction which was piecemeal especially T1 which Air Calin use with its retro satellites for boarding but newer sections on the south side of the terminal. But also because for many years until the early 2000s the perimeter resembled a military airfield more than a civilian one. you can still see the remnants of this legacy 20 years later. The airport now feels very out dated, drab, and old fashioned. I much prefer flying into HND for my return to Japan. NRTs current reincarnation as an LCC / cargo hub is another nail in the coffin in my opinion. By the way Josh HND is Japan's busiest gateway by some margin these days (NRT had just 2.6m international passengers in the first 6 months of 2023 while HND has welcomed more than 6 million over the same period). Keep up the great work, I look forward to seeing you try out Fuji Dream Airlines on your next visit here.
Hey Josh, I'm surprised Noel didn't warn you beforehand but I guess like you said every experience is different. I connected through Narita en route to Australia in July and I had a weird experience because I landed at Terminal 1 and was leaving out of Terminal 3 but they wouldn't let me switch terminals so I couldn't access the lounge in Terminal 2, never seen an airport that wouldn't let me do that.
Noel Phillips had a bad experience because, like always, he didn't bother to do any research about Noumea as a stopover. Yes, he faced the inconvenience of lost bags but instead of flying through to Japan, buying some things to tide him over, he chucked a complete sook and went home.

Really enjoyed this, like the reminder that one should always thank the the staff who served you.
Excellent. So informative, professional and trustworthy.
Lovely review Josh, once again. Thank you!
Glad your were blown away by your flight experience. Enjoy your time in New Caledonia. Cant wait to see your Quantas review
Awesome video. Thanks Josh, and also.... Thanks for all of your smiles and being an excellent great example, Alex. You've made long hours flying so comfortable with your sophisticated service. Greatly appreciated 👍🏽🥰👍🏽
Caledonia is a French territory but not like French West Indies. They have a different statut with more autonomy.
Small airline but seems quite organized. Thanks for the video, Josh!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Review.. Straight up honest and truthful!
Alex would've delivered anything you wanted. 😇
I picked up on that as well ❤
Damn Alex looks pretty good 👀
As cruise ship crew we loved Noumea. Our go to food place was Club Bilboquet. Probably not in existance anymore given the time gap.
I live in noumea and I think It stills exist.
Agree with you re Narita, I avoid it if possible. I find it cold and confusing - but I've only ever been to the JAL terminal 2. Give me Haneda any day.
Hope I'll see you in one of the flights in Europe. Doing a great job. Keep going! 🙂
I didn't know Josh is a Schalke Fan
Your mileage may vary depending on where you board the plane. I would expect cabin to be cleaner and catering to be above average coming out of NRT. at least that’s my experience as opposed to say flying out of US airports, so you may have a different experience flying out of Noumea.
02:08 The busiest airport in Japan is Haneda with about 60 Million passengers / year. Love your videos, though 😃
Flown with them DOZENS of time back and forth from SYD to NOU @ An absolute WORLD CLASS AIRLINES !!
Economy ?
Of course Alex was very service oriented, he had a huge crush on you!! 😍
I flew Zipair from LAX Los Angeles to Narita, Tokyo, a 12 hr flight almost entirely above the ocean 😊❤
When I flew UAL from Narita to SFO I encountered zero problems. Japanese are efficient, courteous, and kind.
Nothing beats great hospitality
Looks like the pilot didn't miss a single runway center line light on takeoff :) I flew Air Calin a couple of times on the old, phased out A330 and was always happy with the good standard, the crew is most of the times a bit cold and reserved, but who cares anyway if you just want to have a good nap 😎
I liked the Layout and the NEI was pretty quiet on takeoff from your seat forward of the Engine. Happy Tor meal was good.
Great video as always Josh. Really appreciate your honest reviews. Cheers
Hey Josh, great review and thanks for sharing your experiences on these new to me airlines!
I would guess that was some kind of cold hibiscus tea that you got on entry, bearing in mind that the logo for Air Calin is the hibiscus flower.
Air Calin is more luxurious than United, flew in it to Noumea 2013.
Before talking about hating an airline, everyone should try Aerolíneas Argentinas. It will change your idea about what "BAD" really means...
Saw the title and thought you were on Ryanair!
Noel Phillips had a bad experience because, like always, he didn't bother to do any research about Noumea as a stopover. Yes, he faced the inconvenience of lost bags but instead of flying through to Japan, buying some things to tide him over, he chucked a complete sook and went home.
"chucked a complete sook" just joined my vocabulary
Noel Phillips and bad experiences, seem to be synonymous! 😂😂😂
@@carolinelane9599 between him, Dan and Sam. It’s slim pickings to get anything from the three of them.
One doesn’t plan and has it, ruin his trip and his Video.
One is a pretentious little Sissy, flying with his BF between Europe and Dubai. Complaining if his Vegan meal isn’t perfect.
And the other seems to be a sell out, producing 15 minute adverts for the carriers!
Which one is which, is very easy to figure out!
Noel lost his credibility when he said United was better than Singapore Airlines. That guy complains about everything stopped watching his video long ago
@@avnel3007
Dan complains even more!
Great video just on time for lunch!❤
Booked with miles?
Where ? How much?
Thanks
Okk Schalke 04 fan !! They played in my hometown last weekend (in Aalen) and won against us. Were you there Josh to watch the game? :)
Hey Josh! Aren t you getting tired of flying?? Well, for me it would not be the right thing to do since I hate flying. Anyhow, I love your videos!!! Keep em coming!!
Brilliant review, I love your videos. Great to see ppl passionate about their jobs, well done Alex - you looked as if you had the hots for him??? 😂 please keep these excellent videos coming 🙏🙏
When is Aircalin going to fly to SFO or LAX ?
With the good old schalke strickjacke
