@@raptovis5068 Even later reply - Most likely a reference to an Elder Scrolls game "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee" (which as Raptovis said, was a euphemism for getting married). I'd say Skyrim, but I *think* it predates Skyrim and Skyrim just referenced the earlier one.

Mick Taylor is very much alive, as others stated already. GVT (I think) stands for Guitar Valve Technology, which is a nod to SVT (Super Valve Technology) the 300w bass amps Ampeg introduced in 1969. Shortly after, the Stones, in desperate need of LOUD amps, asked Ampeg to provide for their US tour which they did. The Stones used them for both bass and guitar amplification and made Ampeg SVT's legendary. But later Ampeg took an arrow to the knee and now their amps are made in China.

Made for a good laugh, but it is kind of a shame that you didn't give it the attention it deserves. These are actually really nice, very tweakable amps.. kinda like the early Mesa amps in the sense that fiddling with the knobs offers a wide variety of tone options (The amp doesn't really s o u n d like a Boogie, though). I think they really shine on the clean channel.. roll back the mid knob and they get into classic Fender clean territory, a little darker but still a lot of lush shimmery highs. They take pedals amazingly well on this channel, dirt pedals in particular.. and when you turn the mid knob up, there is a really nice relation between the amp's natural compression and the pedal that allows to hunt for really nice drive tones. Oh, and humbuckers works well, but this amp looooves single coil guitars, and is a fab match with both strats and teles, not to mention an LPjr. with a p90!

My primary amp is a 1966 Ampeg Gemini I. I have tried dozens and dozens of guitar amps over the past 15+ years, and have yet to find anything that has such a sweet, articulate, and sparkling tone as the Gem 1. I've come across a few that came close, namely the Matchless DC-30 being the closest to it, but even with it's 2x12" setup, it can't capture the low mids and bass that my Ampeg can. Truly an amazing amp company that excels at bass amps, but also perfected the guitar amp many decades ago.

I wish they made the 50 watt as a head. Makes very little sense that the 15 watt is available as a head but the 50 watt is only available as a combo. I'd get the 15 watt, I'm just not that crazy about the 6v6 sound with high-gain stuff, and that's what I'd be getting it for. High-gain rhythm guitar stuff with a clean 6L6 power section is exactly what I need, but I don't want a combo. I was just as disappointed that the new 60 watt version of the 6505 is also only available as a combo.
