The Best Chatterbait and Spinnerbait Tricks You've Never Tried!

- These tricks and modifications will change your spinnerbait and chatterbait fishing! With underwater footage to help understand the tips, this video will help you catch more fish. We cover everything from skirt modifications to blade options, trailer tricks to color selection in today's in-depth look at how to put a new twist on these bass fishing classics.
Some anglers prefer to keep it casual, settling on a favorite bait and just going fishing. Others prefer to dive in to the details and really fine tune their tackle. This video has both anglers in mind. We begin with simple selections and advance to skirt modifications and trailer tricks you've never seen before.
In addition, Matt takes the time to share his favorite spinnerbaits in each category then follows it up with details about what makes them so unique. One bait is best for muddy water, another will get bit in ultra-clear conditions. When it comes to chatter baits, he emphasizes the importance of a bait that is quick to start its vibration and focuses on trailers who's movements match the blades'.
Below is a breakdown of the baits, trailers, and colors we trust to consistently catch fish. We've also included links to previous In-Depth videos we've done on both spinnerbaits and chatter baits.

Best show ever. I have been watching for over two years. At first I thought you were much to technical for me. I also caught nothing ! Three years later my catch rate is about 1 an hour & I expect to limit out. Even won a few local tournaments. Matt, you guys are without a doubt the best on youtube. Many thanks & keep em coming.
I have to agree. My game has gone way up since watching these videos. Hopefully cash a check in the big bass bash this year.
I love a spinner bait when the weather a little nasty. Caught a Bunch 2 To 3 pound. Bass last year in the grass in late April
On all my FB groups, any time there's a bass question, I just instantly refer them here, I can't think there's anything they haven't covered. Excellent channel
@@juddlinette9318 lol.. me and a buddy were catching em every cast when a tornado was in the area on table rock some years ago!
good for you Paul!!! check out Fish the Moment channel too, also one of the best, especially the electronics vids.
I've been watching tactical bassin for a while now and I have to say, as a bank angler I find your videos really helpful. They deserve so many more views.
This guy should have as many subs as lunker's or more!
@@carey_metv for sure
I love this! I would love to see a spreadsheet of sorts. Column for clear/muddy water, column for temperature, column for depth, and a list of order in which you would try each bait. 15 casts then change to a _____, 15 casts then move to a ______. That would help me a LOT!
No, it wouldn't.
Thanks again Matt, for a great video! Two of my all-time favorite lures, and now I know a few new tricks. One of the best fishing channels on the market, hands down! Keep up the great work fellas!!
Great video, Everytime I watch one of your videos I end up buying more tackle and adding to my fishing knowledge.
This is a jam up video!!!! Loaded with great information!!! I’ve been in the salt for the last 20 years and I’m getting back into bass fishing this year. So much has changed since I was bass fishing heavy. Thank you so much for these great tips!!!
Matt you break it down so well. I will be trying these tactics this season. The 42 thumbs down are all bass.
And a big bluegill that tried to eat the spinnerbait
One of the best trick on the spinner bait skirt! Will have to try that Sunday when I head out to the lake. 👍👍
Love the extra long videos this week! Thanks guys this week has had great videos with great info!
As usual picked up new stuff to try. Thank you guys again! Can't wait for another day on the water though. I love watching you guys in action
Matt, I never can believe how one guy can think of so many great ways to enhance equipment, and increase hook ups. And then, to be so gracious, and share if with all of us... You are a true Blessing my friend to all of us bass fishing nuts!! Rock on man!!
Well like every Tactical Bassin vlog Outstanding. Thank you for this. This is one bait I have not caught allot of fish with. And know I have confidence i can go catch fish with it.
When tactical bassin uploads a vid you drop what you're doing and you pay attention 🙌
Me: glued to the screen 🤫
@@kayakfishingforpredators9107 haha me too
Yup
ikr watched multiple times lol
Well said !
Love Tactical Bassin. I've learned a lot from Matt Allen
Heading out this Saturday to Clearlake for the first time. Definitely trying out this trick, thanks brother!!
I truly have no idea why the heck you guys get dislikes? You guys lit the fire under my butt a couple years ago to pick up the rods again...Incredibly thankful that I stumbled across you two guys thank you for all the content!!!
One of my favorite baits to throw. I dig the way you place your replacement skirts. I was doing it in reverse of you. Your way, I can see will have so much more body. Always pick so much out of your videos. Thank you
Wealth of information.
Thanks for the different perspectives, beginners to experienced
Your channel had my absolute go to for tips and tricks. Last season I caught a couple hundred bass jigging some kind of soft plastic. Doing so, my wrist and thumb have been since. I've never been great at spinners/chatters, but have been going to those more to allow my had to recover. Your channel has helped so much on the little tips that I've never really thought about. Thanks
So, yesterday I went down to a spot where I've had okay (sometimes 1 fish per day) luck. When I got there it was 104 degrees & the sun was dropping quick. I've been fishing a frog due to heavy brush but yesterday & after watching the first few minutes tied on a white spinnerbait with a shad trailer. Gotta say, after 5 fish, I'm a believer! Thanks for the great tips. Now I've gotta watch the rest of the video!!
I love how clearly he'd explained this I a treasure to most angler's out here
Thanks 👍😊
Pairing your underwater footage with your instruction is spot on! Thanks again guys
Loved this video. New to the bass world, and found that you are the the real deal when it comes to complete knowledge. Thanks!
Thanks for the tip on placing the trailer upside down for action on the chatter bait! It worked pretty instantaneously which I feel resulted in 3 good fish in 15 mins, cheers!
The spinnerbait, my absolute favorite bait to throw, it's just so incredibly versatile. Thanks for another great video!
Yup, if I could only ever use one thing for the rest of my life, it would be a spinnerbait. Customization is damn near endless.
Except musky like them too. I lost a few spinner baits because of musky. I even started putting a steel leader on and a big musky broke that too.
Matt and Tim are awesome, best tips and tricks. Thanks guys!
I watch all of your videos and y'all are by far the best bass fishing channel on UA-cam. No gimmicks. No clickbaiting. It's super appreciated!
That reel "pop" with a chatterbait REALLY make 'em JUMP to one side.. That is a truly outstanding tip!!
You guys are awesome. I am relatively new and everytime I am looking to learn about some aspect of bass fishing I just google “tactical bassin....” and what ever I’m wanting to learn about. You guys do not disappoint!
The simple/fast under water shot are key! Keep up the good work. These in depth breakdowns save me so much $ buying things that don’t catch fish.
One of your best videos Matt, more like this PLEASE. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great lesson ! I learned so much . Thank you Tactical !!
Great instructional video. Really challenged my thinking about colors. I did really well on black bass with spinnerbaits last year (2020). Thank you for the practical information.
Wow man, your knowledge and depth on this is incredible. Thank you for sharing!
As usual another great video from the best bass fishermen on the internet. Thanks Matt. Tactical Rocks.
Can’t wait to try some of these tricks in a few weeks.🤞🏻
Why are you here? If you're just curious, the gay bar is up the street.
Always informative and entertaining. Great communicator with real enthusiasm. Thanks.
Dude I love how fired up you get about the chartreuse and small mouth bass part. Definitely subscribing!
I REALLY like this layout of video over the past one. The beginner section for those new to the bait at the start and have never fished it. The intermediate section for those who have fished it but are not that successful and the end for just the little tweaks once you have confidence in the bait to get the most out of it! I am new to spinnerbaits/chatterbaits but heard they slay smallies so here I am. Will be back to watch again after a few days on the water
Ones*
I just bought my first buzz bait and chatter bait yesterday, haven't used them yet. I just checked out your buzz bait video earlier today and subscribed. Then later the same day you come out with a chatter bait video!! Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do!
Matt, cutting the paddle off the tail of the keitech was a game changer. Didnt think it would make that big a difference but it FLAT OUT did. Thanks for the tip!
This will be super helpful for next sping.
Man this video is everything I was looking for in spinner and chatters. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this and the in depth of it.
I love trying techniques new to me. Researching and then targeting species has always been fun and rewarding. Thanks for these cool tips that I will try. Getting another tackle order together right now. But still need the spring season to arrive in northern NY. Clear Lake looks fantastic!
Excellent video, it still cracks me up that the haters will dislike every video that you put out.
Such great teaching content! No doubt, the best on the Tube. Thanks Matt.
I love chatterbaits , there my new favorite . Just by changing the trailer you can completely change how you fish it . I’ve learned so much from watching this channel . The zman custom off tackle warehouse that they link below is a great value like Matt says . The setup I use for it is a dobyns 734c champion with a shimano Curado 200k hg . Thank you for the great videos as always .
Michigan Fishin I’ll have to look into the Picasso’s shock blades , actually never heard of them . Yes I do have a black blue jackhammer . Very Nice lure , it’s like a luxury edition of the chatterbait . For the price though , you might be better off getting 2-3 zman customs chatterbaits instead .
I love a spinner bait this time of year!!
This channel with Matt and Tim easily provides an angler with very useful information. Doesn’t matter if you’re new or a seasoned angler. Pay attention. You’ll learn something in every single video. 🎣
I am addicted to this program...appreciate you guys.
Awesome video.
I LOVE how you explain WHY and HOW the baits work and when to use them.
Big fan! Keep ‘em coming!
Roger, The Smiling BassHole
You are so informative. Great teacher. You pronunciate everything so clearly and with such passion. Amazing video. I learned a great deal. I like how you show your favorites, but also promote testing it out and deciding on what is the best application for the condition. Great work!
I really enjoyed and benefitted from this video. Thank you! I got back into bass fishing last year during the COVID quarantine, and spinnerbaits were very effective for me on black bass and catfish(!). I used topwaters and crankbaits but it was hard for me to put down spinnerbaits because they worked consistently for me. I got into modifying skirts and changing blades last year and will experiment with your tips this year. I like your simple approach.
As always, I learn a lot from you! You are the best!!! 💥🤍💥
Thanks to Tacticalbassin i give them so much credit for my success in fishing lately. Im not a hardcore fisherman I recently got back into it. I was always a drop shot person but after 2 months of watching Tacticalbassin every rig I’ve used I’ve had success with especially the Kietech worm with the chatterbait, and the underspin swimbait . I caught my personal best largemouth 6-8 pounds using a bluegill 4” kietech worm on a green pumpkin chatterbait.
Thank you Tacticalbassin for all your tutorials.
Love the video man you guys always help me out a lot I just want to thank you and tell you I appreciate it
Finally an intellectual fishing video. I love that you get technical and explain how subtle changes can be so effective.
And his theories about why
These guys are no joke Einstein s of bass fishing. I never fail to learn from each video. I would be interested to see them fish big tournaments.
Good stuff Matt, thank you!
If you're ever in West Virginia or remotely close to the area I'll go fishing with you guys lol. Keep up what y'all do, we cant get enough of it!!!
Thanks for all that great information I sure appreciate your work
Dude your the man just love your vids have learned so much from u thanks for all the hard work.
Best fishing channel on UA-cam period, you guys are awesome,I can say without a doubt that I catch bigger and more bass because of you guys 😁 good luck to everyone this year!!
Matt you did it again! You knocked this one out of the park. These are pro level techniques and information that would take a lifetime to realize on your own. Great content great channel just great overall!!!
My brother and I used to have a 14 acre private lake we could fish. It was managed very well and that's where I truly learned how to effectively fish different baits and when to use them. One frosty January morning we got out there at daylight and we started near the dock as always. I had a solid chartreuse kvd spinnerbait and my brother had the exact model but in firetiger. They just happened to be schooled up there and they were SMOKING those baits reeled at a moderate speed! We wound up catching at least 25 fish in 10-15 minutes all ranging from 3 1/2 - 6 lbs. The next morning I had to go alone and same story. First cast was a 3 1/2, next cast was a 4, and then I nailed my pb at the time at 7 lbs. I was so excited I quit fishing what a mistake! Water was super clear for that bright chartreuse! Reminded me of this memory when you talked about those spawning smallies!
You can just tell this man is speaking from his heart haha
Those topics that you guys can go down a rabbit hole should be the extra vids. It be nice to have videos where you guys really dive DEEP into everything of one topic. Thanks
Matt, I took your advice and bought the River2Sea “I know it” but I had to get the 3/8 oz (1/2 oz was sold out). I paired it with a 4.3 in Fat chartreuse electric blue Kietech. I was looking for a bass when a northern pike smashed is about 4 foot from the shoreline. It was spectacular. Bent the hell out of the spinner, but that hook was incredible and kept him in with no problem. Thank you!!!
Awesome video. War Eagle has been my go to spinner bait forever. It's been the most consistent performing one I've found.
it's like matt was in my tackle bag. clear water, screamin' eagle in mouse and aurora, all i need.
awesome information. Love the spinnerbaits information!
Ty for making it simple at the beginning.
Love the revenge spinnerbaits! As always a great video!
Awesome video man! Super informative and super helpful
Another great video! You guys have the best channel for fishermen!
Hey bro , i really love your videos. You explain things very well i have been fishing bass as long as i can remember , i used to fish in tourneys with my old man . And i considered myself a well rounded bass master.
Every time i watch your videos i take something away . Also the underwater footage is a game changer on learning how these baits present themselves , top notxh
Awesome as always! I keep thinking you're about to hook yourself, the way you're moving your hands around those hooks like that!
Thanks Matt, been needing a few new Spinnerbaits. Hopefully the Bling will win me some Bling this year...lol. Order placed. You and Tim are the Men!!! Amazing content as always, Thanks!!
Good tips. Up in northern Indiana I love to fish an all black full size spinner bait with a big all black Colorado blade at night. I’m the mid summer warm nights fish breaks and weed lines and slow roll it just so the blaze thumps. With a steady retrieve big bass hammer it and almost rip the rod out of your hand if you aren’t ready for it.
Great video Matt, thank you....
New title for this vid. " Hydrodynamics and fishonomics"! Loved it!
Recently subscribed. Enjoying watching all your videos and appreciate you sharing all your knowledge and experience.
Thank you Matt, definitely trying the upside down paddle tail
Absolutely love this video! My goal in 2020 is to catch a bass on a to spinner bait.
This guy must be a fishing god. What fine tuning tips!
I thoroughly enjoy your knowledge.
Great videos and great explanations.
So. Cal. Fishing
So much information. Thanks man
Man!!! You are the best!! Thanks for sharing all this great stuff!!
Holy cow.....I'm going to go broke filling up my shopping cart with all your recommendations! LOL. Love your explanations and straight forward approach. Now, IF I can simply remember all the combinations from numerous videos. Sheese..colors, shads, drop shots, football jigs....no wonder you have a boat with lockers of gear! My little 16 foot Alumacraft with no storage will be tricky this season :) Thanks for these excellent videos.
I have had good results using bluegill flash color pattern in delaware ponds. Thanks for the great info as always Matt!
The amazing thing is that you have enough self-discipline NOT to fish in that beautiful weather, and sit down to make a video for us 😱
My wife walked by and said “are you sure he actually does any fishing” haha
He catches so many bass all the time it probably dosent bother him to take a 30 minute break lol
He probably fished afterwards.
Wonder how he got all that info? O wait, probably all the fishing he does……..🤪
A perfect video man!! Greats from Spain..
You got yourself a sub. Thanks mate 🤙
GREAT TIPS!!!!!
Perfect timing on this video man,
I'm Roll Tide but War Eagle Spinnerbaits😎
I love the terminators and the kvds but nothing does better than a wareagle!!!
The best teacher ever!!!
Good idea to pull the colored strands out when they're not hitting. Nice nugget right there Matt!
Thanks for everything you do Matt you must be the most knowledgeable fisherman in the world right now no discredit to no one but that’s just how I feel
I love ur video I learning so much on this video thanks.
great video! very informative.
Hi Matt, Miles here. I've never heard of B C U, Bass Catching University but Apparently there is one and You Graduated 1st in Your Class. Now I'm getting to go for free by watching All of your TOTALLY Detailed, Informative Videos!! Thanks my Friend, Please keep it up 🚤💧
Another great one 👍
