Hello Sarah! 👋I think that you reflect very wisely and healthy. I'm 27 years old. I absolutley understand your thoughts about knitting less and that you've created this channel. I have been wondering HOW you can knit so much that you've been doing lately. Even if you're feeling stressed about it, it feels like you're now on a more "normal" level with the amount of knitting. Don't feel that you don't share enough content on this channel because I really appreciate these kind of videos too and also your "styling my knits"-videos and different style/inspiration-videos. I also appreciate that you're honest with your thoughts about amount of content because sometimes it feels like youtubers misrepresents what the process of creation and creativity actually looks like. I follow many knitting and sewing-channels but yours is one of my favorites. 😊

You’re so kind! Thank you so much for your comment ☺️ I’ve definitely knitted more than the average person and I try to be transparent about that. I’m glad it comes across and you’ve enjoyed my other videos

I definitely struggle with balance, and I completely understand that anxiety of feeling like if you put something down, maybe you'll never come back to it. This was a really awesome video, and I'll probably come back to it every once in a while when I need to just RELAX. Thanks so much for sharing!

I really relate to your thoughts and feelings! I struggle to find time to do all the hobbies that I have. Especially if I have a full social calendar! I have such cognitive dessonance because I want to socialise with my friends but I also want to be alone at home to do my hobbies. I always am so mind-boggled at how people with kids make time because I feel like I’m constantly running out of time in my days. I can’t provide any advice because I still have no idea what I’m doing but at least I can tell you that myself (and I’m sure a lot of other people) share the same feelings as you 😊

I’m glad we’re all struggling together! Finding balance especially between those extrovert components are introvert components is so fricken hard! Thanks so much for sharing your experience, Ash!

i love the fish in the river vs being the entire river metaphor !! i definitely feel that myself, in trying to be the river and forcing myself to knit, or forcing myself into a routine to balance my life out, i'm eroding away the riverbank and burning myself out. i'm also one of those people that feels like if i'm not getting into a routine, or aligning my schedule perfectly with the stuff i want and need to do, i'm not being productive at all. which is funny; i've never ever stuck to a routine my Entire life, and yet it's something i've always wanted to do and strive towards... i think now is the time to realize that it's just not gonna work for me lol... embracing the fish life :)

I’m so glad the fish metaphor resonated!! And I love the addition you’ve made of eroding the bank by trying to control the flow. I hope you can go forward with the fish life! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with me ☺️

It was nice to listen to your thoughts…I can relate to so much of what you are saying! I think it’s good to talk about these feelings and it sounds like you’re on a good path of balancing everything out. I think I have a schedule type of approach which can get stressful(as I think you mentioned) So, definitely things you mentioned helped motivate and inspire me to kind of get away from the strictness of that and do more of what I feel like doing in that moment. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!❤

You'll always know how to knit now, even if you put it down and don't pick it up for years you'll still know how to do it, it's okay to stop for months! It's also okay to become a more rounded person with a lot of things to do other than knit; or a goblin that walks around with yarn in their pocket, knitting and walking! Only you know you, your limits and what you want. The only issue comes when you're using knitting to help get a better balance, and then it becomes something you need to balance. I'm in my 40s and an introverted goblin person that takes their crochet to the park and watches the ducks whilst making ghosts (or at least that's what I did last week, lol! ;). I still struggle with balance in my life (I don't have many spoons so I need to use them wisely); you're way more mindful than I am so I'm sure you'll be grand.
Also I'm looking forward to seeing the jumper (sweater) when it's done, it's a same you ran out, but I'm sure it'll look lovely dyed brown.

Oh and I often, when I'm far to busy for life, have the song "F**k it All!" to the tune of Frozen's "Let It Go" going round my head ;) That helps :D As long as the important things are done, people are fed, clean, and flat (apartment) is not filthy I think I'm winning! I also refuse to do any more household tasks in the 2 hours before bed, or I won't sleep well.

I love your perspective! I also love that you translated British words into American English 😂 the added complexity of having a chronic illness or having few spoons to give makes this all the harder. I often have to remind myself of that reality for myself too! (I have POTS) I also love the description of introverted goblin! But you’re right, sometimes as long as the important things are done we’re doing a great job. Thanks so much for sharing! And I’ll be sure to show the finished sweater once it’s dyed. It’s going to be very cozy!

i’m 28 and in a similar situation to you - no kids, new job that’s starting to pick up pace - and i recently decided to knit monogamously for the most part because i get discouraged when i have a WIP on the needles for a long time. i also try to avoid really tight deadlines because i can be a perfectionist and i will frog if i’m unhappy with something. so i like to keep one main project and one sock project pretty much at all times! this also gives me a better idea of how long each project would take if it’s the only thing i’m working on

I’m glad it was relatable! That’s really interesting that we’re both in that new job that’s ramping up stage. I agree with not wanting tight deadlines on knitting and I love the idea of having a sock project and a larger WIP on the needles. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

This was a very interesting thought process to listen to to reflect on my own every day life and knitting time balance. Personally I only have a small time to knit daily and sometimes none at all (even as a 31 y/o with no kids and working from home!). I'm wondering if the reason why you're feeling guilty about wanting to prioritize other activities over knitting is because you *are* a monogamous knitter, but you're not feeling inspired by your current project. Maybe if you were working on something you know you'll be able to wear while on your walks or to a specific social event like on 4th of July or a wedding for example, maybe your 30-60 minutes of daily knitting would be more fulfilling? You have a short, precious amount of time to knit, so make the most of it by knitting something that feels precious. It sounds to me like you're powering through your sweater just for the sake of staying monogamous, but knitting is just a hobby for your own personal enjoyment! You make your own rules, no one is going to hold you accountable if you were to break them once or twice 🩷

This is very true!!! I’m in the home stretch of this sweater so I really want to finish it off to wear it while I’m working from home- it’s going to be so cozy! But I am really looking forward to a more engaging project. I’m really thinking about what to cast on next with that in mind. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
