As delicate as this case is, even if you think a gun is not loaded you never point it at anyone including yourself. In the movie industry a camera angle can be used for the desired effect without putting anyone at risk.

Personally, I think Baldwin had one of his well-known temper tantrums, and instead of pointing to the side like he knew how to do, pointed directly at her and fired - maybe, possibly thinking to scare her with a blank. And with live ammo (WHY???) on set that was a guarantee of injury.

It is a well established safety principle on set to ALWAYS point to the side of anyone in front of the gun - and Baldwin was well aware because he had given a safety lecture to everyone the day before. Safety principles that were being ignored enough to cause several employees to quit - some that very morning.
