I’ve noticed since I’ve stopped oiling my scalp, my scalp no longer flakes and it doesn’t itch. At the beginning of my Loc journey, I would oil my scalp like every other day and my scalp still flaked and itch so bad. I had to unlearn what I’ve been taught for years about oil and I stopped using oils on my scalp. It took awhile for my scalp to get used to me not putting oils on it. After going without oils for a few months, my scalp healed and no longer flakes and stopped itching. I only apply oils on my actual locs and I do that sparingly!
I had the same experience I have been 3 months not oiling my scalp and I no longer have the problem with flakes...prior to that I would scratch so bad and flakes would fall it looked like a snow globe
Sebum scooping has helped me a long way! My locs have grown a lot thicker due to trusting my own sebum... Which includes rubbing thru each part to assist the sebum down my new growth tresses to help spread the sebum...and drinking water, water, water!!! I do the sebum scooping once per week, using my fingers only! I also talk to my antennas (my locs lol) and I smoke them out to cleanse the energy of my locs as well by using white sage, frankincense and or dragons blood resins burning on charcoal! It works...talk to your hair people 🙂
I grew up differently. I never oiled my scalp or got it oiled . My mother used water only when manipulating my hair. Everyone I knew thought I was weird because of it too. 😂
I'm 9 months into my loc journey I started mines myself at home by two-strand twist. 8 weeks ago, I found a loctician and she told me not to get my hair wet at all until my hair appointments. I was spritzing my hair with rose water and sealing with oil. She told me to stop but I feel that my hair is not as moisturized. So, I been oiling my scalp every other day.
I oil my scalp once every week and a half. I do use oil on my locs after I wash while i am doing a retwist. I do sometimes spray with rosewater and then come behind it with oil about every two weeks in the winter and less than that during the summer. So i pretty much do it as needed and it works for me and Sylvia (my hair). Love your channel and thanks for giving us so much advise!
I’m so glad I seen this video cuz I instinctively started feeling like “Okay I think I’m overdoing the oil” 😂 and I started doing exactly as you said and giving my scalp a daggon BREAK. I add rosemary oil after a shampoo, making sure my scalp has air dried up to being only slightly damp, so the follicles are still somewhat penetrable, and then I let my loc shafts dry till slightly damp and pat in some tea tree oil and let it sit and travel through the locs. Any extra moisture throughout the week comes from just misting water. I’m glad I’m actually doing right. ✌🏾✨
I lightly oil my scalp once a week. I was guilty of applying too much oil on my scalp and locs early in my loc journey which caused me a lot of build up. But once I figured out what I was doing wrong, I switched up to lightly oiling my scalp and that made ALL the difference for me.❤️
I apply light oil to my scalp after a shampoo. Then a dime size for the body of my locs on each side of my head. That’s it. Very recently, I add oil lightly after my moisture spritz but I wasn’t doing that until 2/3 weeks ago.
I moiturize my hair and w/ Moisture Infusion n follow with Mane Radiance on my hair only 3x a week (CROWN ELEMENTS baby) and I do oil my scalp once a week. As I learned from you I had to adjust slowly from every other day as my scalp was used to getting oiled every time it itched. When i 1st tried to NOT oil it, it itched more. Now I use Pure Scalp for any itching n once week oiling helps my head. Plus using the Scalp Revitalizer n massaging the scalp to distribute the natural sebum helps as well.
Consider your nutrition. Eliminate refined sugar, drink lots of water and only water and herbal teas, warm lemon water with ginger. Eat mostly fresh fruits and vegetables. Starches from vegetables and rice only, no flour products. Reduce and eliminate undue stress, spend time lots of time walking in nature. Rest, rest, rest.
I too have very bad eczema- I oil my scalp with white castor oil and sometimes grease it. I have a happy and heathy scalp- our skin barrier needs different things
every other day when I moisturize with my Crown Elements products; I mist and then run it through my scalp, massage it in, and then run it over my ends to seal moisture in the ends
I oil my locs after washing, never my scalp though. If my scalp ever looks dry I just spray the aloe juice on it and it gives adequate moisture. I grew up having grease used on my hair but thankfully my mother mostly left my scalp alone to do it’s own thing 😊
When should i oil my dreads? After washing or whenever i like? If After washing them how much time should i wait to put oil After washing them...like 30 minutes? Idk i need the dreads to be completly dry or what♥️
I make a hyaluronic acid serum using the HA powder mixed with aloe vera juice 🤷🏾♀️. I only do this in the summer as its a humectant. In the winter, I use aloe Vera juice straight then apply jojoba, let it air dry, then mostly use hair wraps to keep it moisturized for longer throughout the season.
I oil my hair about every 2 weeks. Other than the occasional mist it's the only product I use after a wash. My hair for the most part hasn't matured into locs though, so I expect this may change when it does
I only oil my scalp after I wash. I use just rose water maybe twice a week and I may put oil on my locs every two weeks. I find that my scalp only like jojoba oil after trying all the oil on the market when I was a loose natural
I don’t oil. I use JBCO shampoo with apple cider vinegar, peppermint oil, grape seed oil, and saw palmetto. My hair loves it and so ig with it being in my shampoo it should cause build up and still loc in sum moisture. My love have always been healthy thick and clean
@@thedigitalloctician wow! We pay hundreds up to thousands to individuals that stand on that concept. People, skill without common sense leads to not trusting the process.
They probably don't really believe that. It's more about making sure the integrity of newer locs isn't compromised from all the things people do: oiling, shampooing (the wrong way), conditioning. It seems consultants are more lenient once the new phase is over. They don't want to have to fix a bunch of locs.
@@thedigitalloctician My question is, do I need to oil my hair at all? I know the concept is that oil seals in the moisture, but it seems by hair has been happy with just using rose water daily or maybe just even two to three times a week. I wash either weekly, bi weekly or every three weeks What’s interesting is that I do have sisterlocks ( 9 months in) and I was terrified by being told that I couldn’t use any oil and only use water here and there . However , my hair has been doing great and really soft and moisturized using ONLy rose water Do you think I should still add in some oil once I get the green light to do so by my consultant or even before hand ? (I also have seborrheic dermatitis so my scalp is typically happier without oil)
I don't use oils, I apply a hair serum after washing. I use a separate scalp serum because I'm eczema prone & my scalp needs hydration! My scalp serum doesn't contain any oils and is water based. Hair serum has coconut oil in it, but it's not the star ingredient. I don't make these products, I'm no chemist, I buy them 😂

How often do you currently oil your locs?
once or twice a month to seal in moisture
3 times a week
Once a week
Usually only when I wash my Locs so once a month
Once a wk or two
She starts actually oiling at 6:18
That you so much for this!
Thanks ❤

Lucky 😭 my hair begins to itch way faster unless it's oiled. They're not matured for the most part though, could make the difference
Yep I had to unlearn as well! I have seborrheic dermatitis and oils on my scalp is a *HUGE* no-no.
Thanks. Their experience is different from mines; which supports my original statement. What works for one may not work for another.

I agree! love using sage 💫🤹🌟
Wacko
I only oil my scalp after I shampoo, I use a little in my hands down the shaft of my loc’s to seal in my moisturizer. And I do this every two weeks. 🌺
After I shampoo once per week, but I spritz it daily with an oil, aloe vera juice and water mixture.
Bro your skin looks SO good
Bro?
I honestly haven’t oiled my scalp in 2 years. Best decision!! My locs are extremely soft and feel moisturized without it.
Curious what do you use to moisturize your locs?

Best and most logical loc guidance by far, no debate. Plus you have the products! 🥇✊🏾🌌

Yes. I have eczema. My whole body is uncomfortably dry. Am I supposed to ignore oiling my hair? Yes I also spray with water
Same here good question

I oil after every shampoo and there after it’s only like once a week only on my locs and only after I hydrate them.
I only oil my hairline after washing. Never could use oil on my scalp -- now I know why...😊
This was so helpful. Anyone else with thick locs tell me how they slept the first few months to prevent flat locs??? 😢

Hair serums or really just use oil on the lengths. But it depends on it being light or heavy.

Why is it sisterlock consultants believes the care for one is universal. We all know what works for one may not work for another.
that's how we are taught, basic one size fit all

But I have dandruff so bad when I don't oil my hair
2-3 times weekly

2 to 3X a week because my hair is dry.
Once a week or when scalp began to itch.
