I give you credit for the calmness and cooperation of your gliders. That says a lot. I have tried using a bonding pouch as a glove and here's the issue I ran into. I have 3 cages and while most are related after a short time they don't acknowledge their dad or brother but instead the males at least from one cage typically don't get along with others. I used a bonding pouch to hold a female without thinking about it had held other Gliders time to time. When I put her back , her male cage mate immediately attacked her. I was able to get Wink out before he hurt her. I cannot hold males of one cage without washing hands and arms before going to a different cage. Some males are more aggressive than others and some females even get aggressive from the scent of others on me. I can go wash off, then open cages or hold them with no probs. I don't understand why the scent on my hands would incite an attack , and this is the only instance they would bite offensively. Thanks for sharing.
i don't know why it never occurred to me to give them the snack first 😂 thank you! i tried this immediately after watching and it worked like a charm... i couldn't believe it i had to wake up my bf to see how well it was going. took me only 10mins for all three sugies!
That face oreo made after you gave him 2 treats "mom, you can't fool me with the same treat twice" And I like how your glider just don't do many dramatic crabbing when you cut their nail ^^ If my glider don't like to use the wheel, where do you think would be good to put the nail trimming insert?
To be quite honest a nail trimming insert is really not necessary unless you really hate nail trimming. On the other hand the more often you do it, the easier it gets. If they don't like to use a wheel, then you can use cork toys around their cage, that will help a little bit! :-D
Haha love how you make it look so easy but I know yours are older than my 2. I have the back nails down with meal worms but the first time I attempted the front the bite was like a chomp lol. I use the sandpaper traxs with their wheels tho, after seeing your burrito wrap I will make attempts with their itty bitty hands again. Thanks for a great learning video 🤗
Oh, age has nothing to do with it. Lily is the youngest and by far the most difficult to handle during trimmings, but Dobster was 12 years older than the rest and he was even more difficult than Lily 😀 If you can't finish in one day, just try it again the next day 😊
Interesting. I didn't understand what you said called the nail part that's too far in. But understood just the tip. Okay. I am wondering if they have an opposable thumb. I can't tell.
thank you so much for your awesome videos they are very helpful and my gliders Dutch and Hazel are growing happy and healthy. Also your gliders are very beautiful, one question how old are they and are they related in any way.
Thank you, Joseph! I have two girls, Daisy and Nala, they are turning 4 this August. Oreo has turned 3 in July. Lily has turned 2 in March. Lily and Oreo are siblings, but that is not a problem since Oreo is neutered. And also Daisy and Nala are (twin) sisters, not related to the other two.
Bonding pouches can be purchased from several reputable vendors. Here are a few websites: www.sugargliderdelights.com, www.etsy.com/shop/HollysHobbyToo or www.sugargliderjoy.com :-)
I’m pretty nervous to trim mine, as 1 of them is pretty hesitant to be touched by humans ha...so I might have to try this or maybe another alternative method. Thanks for the video!
Mine were rescued, there last owners took bad care of them and they aren’t used to get there nails clipped. They won’t stay still at all and I don’t want to hurt them. Any advice?
My advice is to ask your vet for help for the first time, then you can get a feel for how to hold them. But only pick a vet that trims their nails without putting them under anaesthesia. Alternatively ask in one of the Facebook Suggie Groups if anyone experienced lives close to you and would be willing to come over and show you how to do it in person 😊
You trim his nails and he trims yours. Today I achieved to trim the nails of my little Effi. I m so proud of myself. I was sweating a lot. . . NOT THAT EASY AS IT LOOKS IN YOUR VIDEO.
im going to but a sugar glider soon just looking for information many of the people in the comments are saying that they dont stay still should i really buy a sugar glider im just a dog owner looking for an exotic pet.Pls tell me of its a good pet it seems nice but the nails and bites just freak me out
You need to be very, very patient to bond with them and your dogs shouldn't be able to come close to them. Furthermore, you should buy at least 2 Sugar Gliders as they should not be kept solitary. Many Sugar Gliders don't become very tame, if they don't get enough attention from their owners (it can also depend on their personality though).
We aren’t completely bonded with out sugar gliders yet like they’re starting to warm up to us but they still don’t really trust us but their nails are starting to get stuck on their pouches because of how long they are and we don’t know what to do any advice ?
Awesome Sugar Glider Mommy okay thank you we didn’t know if we should just try to do it ourselves because we didn’t want it to be a negative experience but at this point it just has to be done
well i have three sugar gliders they are all less than a year old but i have a male and female that are a bit older than my other female so all three were getting along great and the male became of age and the females got pregnant well the younger female either had a bad pregnancy or did away with her joey cuz i dont see her getting big anymore like our other female now the two females dont get along the older female attacks her when ever she sees her we have since seperated them and alternate keeping the male with each so they dont get lonely ...im just not sure whats going on any insight would be greatly appreciated
@@cm5147 Well I am not a breeder so I'm not an expert on this topic, but having females pregnant at this age is not wise at all. They need the vitamins and nutrients to still grow but instead now they have to give those to the joeys. This could lead to your females being malnourished and/or underdeveloped later in life. That being said I have read about pregnancy jealousy and it is possible that the other female (the one that has lost the joeys) is trying to steal the babies from the female that is still carrying joeys. The thing is especially during a pregnancy the female should get all the attention possible and should not be stressed in any way so repeatedly removing the male from her is not a wise thing to do. But, again, not an expert on this topic so your best bet would be to contact a reputable breeder and ask them to help you out with some answers 😊
Yes, probably, unless you have a whole lot of cork items in the cage and a trimming insert in their wheel. You should see if you have another owner that lives in you area. Once our current health crisis calms down, you can maybe visit them and then can teach you in person. You can also ask a vet to show you.
I think a nail file would stress them out too much. Instead you can purchase nail trimming inserts for their wheels: They will prolong the time between trimmings :-)
Depends, but with the way we keep them (little to no wood in their cage), we generally have to trim them. Their nails can get too long, they can get stuck in things, they can hurt you when you play with them... So normally we do have to trim their nails. You can use a nail trimming insert for their wheel which will prolong the time between trimming.
Animal Intelligence Subject: I would be interested in results of anyone allowing them to watch videos of documentaries with them in it in the wild and things or behavior they pick up on. If they watch it or it's left running near their enclosure. I was thinking this may help in rewilding training for animals that need to hunt. Though this is not my field, I'm a Physics major just something I picked up on. My great aunt-in-law had a cat that would pull on a television to watch Cougar Country regularly and would sit and watch it. It scared her because she didn't know the cat could do that and heard a male voice when she was in the shower and her husband was away. There's some docu's on rewilding big cats and how to teach them to hunt when something has happened to their mom.
Don't trim their nails they need them to climb. My glider loves walking all over the screen door, curtains etc. If you can't handle small scratches don't own a glider.
This is not about small scratches, this is about their safety and them getting caught in pouches or other materials and potentially hurting themselves in the process.
@@AwesomeSugarGliderMommy Gliders don't cut their claws in the wild. They also use their claws for defense and catching prey my glider kills lizards. If anybody wishes to disagree with the laws of nature so be it.
@@guymandude7855 Of course you are right, but also there is no fleece in the wild and they naturally trim their nails by climbing trees. If you keep an all natural enclosure, then they do not need their nails trimmed, however most owners prefer to offer pouches, bridges and other cage sets made from fleece for them to cuddle in and they have less cork to keep their nails in shape.
Ty for the video, today ive trimmer my sugar glider nails for the first time so it really helped me with it. Thanks!
Why are your sugar gliders so calm? When I try to trim my gliders nails they act like cats trying to take a bath.
Try to remain calm, but assertive. If you get nervous, they tend to get nervous too :-)
I give you credit for the calmness and cooperation of your gliders. That says a lot.

You are so good to your sugar gliders...too adorable! Thanks for the informative video

Wow you make it look easy
I just got my first sugar similar color as yours white face mosaic, 2 months old and well behaved. hope he gets to be as pretty as yours.
Her sugarglider: gets out of the pouch
Mine: i want to sleep
My gliders are absolutely crazy! I have 2 of them, both are girls, black and grey. They look identical so we tell them apart my there attitude
My sugar glider won’t let me touch them but I love them so much

Your sugar gliders are very well behaved! Mine will not sit still for their nail trimming. I cheat and do it while they’re sleeping in the pouch.
What if you was trimming your gliders nails and they wake up and be like " MOM WHAT ARE YOU DOING" then they glide in the cage 😂
Trinity Malone they have woken up before and yanked their hands back like “excuse me what are you doing!?” ;)
Ur pet is staying so still mine runs around the cage XD

they're so damn tiny I think I might accidentally hurt them D':
Just be patient and gentle, it will be fine :-)
buy a baby nail trimmer :) works best

my sugar glider sometimes got angry and bite when i trims his nails, its normal?
I think it’s perfectly fine as sugar gliders like to move and get irritated when being in the same place for a period of time.
