He was super good on camera. Always nice having a "reaction" video with someone so knowledgeable that is also very articulate and comfortable in front of a camera. Enjoyed this video!
Just threw the IS38 on my Golf SportWagen 4Mo. It's nice below boost, and after 3-3.5k (give or take, it's my first day lol), John is right-it's violent! I have Unitronic, and man it's a great feeling.
@@savagepandaprojects Thank you! In a weird way, it gets better MPG because I'm not in boost all the time like with the IS12/20. But that is some damn good feels when the boost comes. Like wow.
Hey! So you say it’s stage 3- is it actually on a stage 3 tune by APR? I thought that was for the EFR7163 big turbo? The IS38 turbo you have now is the S3 turbo, right? Thanks! Love seeing you post
YES! so for the A3/MK7 GTI they have the IS38 tune listed as APR stage 3. This would be equivalent performance of a stage 2 Audi S3. The APR big turbo EFR kit is a whole different animal. Most MQB guys usually do IS38 hybrid turbos as opposed to more complicated setups etc. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@savagepandaprojects oh sweet thanks for clearing that up! I currently have a stage 2 S3 on 034 Motorsports but planning to go with a CTS 600 kit. Hopefully nothing blows up!
Love watching project A3, would love to know what you think about the longevity of a stage 1 on a daily car (my 2019 A3) I drive about 6-7000 miles a year and I want the car to last but also have something I can step on and enjoy time to time
@@savagepandaprojects thanks for the reply. One more question for you. I’ve only recently purchased the car and been following you since that time…. How long have you had the tune on your vehicle for? And have you had any major issues with the stock components from all the extra power
great question, I actually had been tuned for about 2.5 years. Stage 1, 2, and IS38 turbo. No issues. Just change the oil every 5k with a quality synthetic. Here is a video about what you need to do before you get tuned ua-cam.com/video/XzAcNP8Bro8/v-deo.html
I have a 2017 A3 Quattro with a EQT stage 1 tune and DSG tune with 110000 miles now. Installed tune around 45k miles kept up on maintenance, change oil every 5k and maintain trans and haldex intervals. Not one problem only thing is brakes and tires
Probably going to be driving 20,000 miles a year, just had to wastegate go bad. Thinking about replacing the stock is20 with a stage 3 dtr6054. Im already stage 1 apr. Thoughts ?
This setup is applicable to the EA888 gen 3 platform mqb. The older hatch A3 8P would be the same as a MK6 GTI so you would be doing a K04 turbo to replace the stock K03. Hope that helps
Good question, if the budget allows definitely RS3. You just can't beat the 5 cylinder sound. Much more capable of pushing more serious power levels. For the money though the A3 is pretty decent for the money 💰
@@savagepandaprojects bet I just bought an A3 but I’m not sure how far I wanna take the build since I’ll probably buy an RS3 or 718 Cayman in the next year or two
Yeah you could always stay conservative with a stage 1 tune. That alone completely transforms the car. That should help keep you satisfied until you move up the Cayman or RS3. M2 comp may also be worth checking out
@@savagepandaprojects ok cool thank you, currently i have a 2016 Audi A3 2.0T stage 2 just debating on trading it for a s3 or s4 but that’ll be a ways away. So I might just continue to upgrade my a3
Honestly the A3 Quattro vs S3 when it comes down to it there's not really that much of a difference. I did a video about this recently you can check it out for more information on that comparison. The B9 S4 is super nice but the aftermarket support is very limited at this time. There's stage 1, intakes, exhaust etc but not much beyond that. Same with the B9 A4
Hmmm not exactly sure about that one, we don't have the 1.6 here in the states. If it's front wheel drive probably not worth it in my opinion as traction would be an issue
You can choose when you go into your local APR dealer to have the car tuned :) Very reliable on the engine and DSG. I've seen plenty of guys push this platform much further than this.
Yes I have a 0-60 video you'll see it on here. About 3.8 seconds. Well worth the Upgrade! I would say AWD all day. Fwd GTI will never put the power down effectively
@@paulkelsey2458 yep can't beat it for the money. I looked at several GTI's before I settled on the A3 Quattro. I knew with my intentions to push more power with the IS38 AWD was the better platform. Go for it man! 😎

Thanks for the support Beardchanics! he's got a pretty rare A3 most definitely look forward to that feature as well!
awesome. Happy for you man
Appreciate it!
Did you do any other upgrades apart from the turbo, like intercooler upgrade, air intake and down pipe?
Thanks
Yes all of those supporting mods were done with the build!

For awd models I'd totally go for the new APR turbo. Will obviously perform better than a stock IS38 and be more reliable
Do you drive around normal day to day in "sport" mode or does everyone usually save that for the track?
I keep it in "D" the only reason for sport is to rev higher and initiate the pops and bangs lol (discontinued at this time)
Loving the content man keep it up, I have a apr stage 2 a3 2.0t quattro, coming from a n54 335i I have to say I'm very impressed with the A3.

How much did it cost total for the stage 3 swap? And would this work for a 2012 hatch?

My bad lookin for a ball park number. Was it like 3-5 grand or how much were parts.
Came here from the a6600 videos, what camera mount are you using?
What's up man! I am actually using the A7III now with the 24mm 1.4 GM. The mount is fantaseal works great!
Any recommendations on where to get rs7 spark plugs for an s3?
FCP euro
Would you do an A3 is38 or just get an RS3? If you had the choice between them
