Take a moment to imagine that body, with a high-mount wing and aero-nose like found on the '69 Charger Daytona... and you have what Chrysler really intended that body to be like. What all the wing cars and their respective competition were being: Race cars built for the street. Too-bad restrictive rules, pushed by insurance companies threatening to pull track owner's coverage of several high-speed circuits, caused it never to materialize.

It says a lot about how brave and determined they were. I saw one of Richard's Daytona cars from the 70's, got to really look at it. I was comparing his roll cage/chassis against my current stockcar at the time. Was very surprised that I had way more bars and some of my tin work was as good as theirs. But yea, they were Brave to wheel these big ass cars 200mph.

If you look at the attention to detail on Petty’s cars you can see why he was so successful. A lot of the old cars looked not amateurish but short cuts were taken. Petty’s cars were first class and almost always finished. Dale Inman was a great crew chief and builder as was Petty. Attention to details was one of their advantages.

Wasn't that body run up until the '78 season, under rules that allowed use of bodies of a model-year up to three years old to run in a respective season? I recall it well because Petty stayed with Dodge through the '78 season, after which Dodge presented him with the "aerodynamically improved" replacement for the now boxy, luxury-oriented Charger: The Magnum... which Petty said "...Had the aerodynamics of a cinder block!" and forced him to run with Oldsmobile for '79, running the 2-y/o Cutlass 442 body, which had some of the best aerodynamics had for a safety-bumper "whale-bodied" car.

THROTTLE POWER👀 I have pictures of this car at Daytona on the pole with
Petty and Person in 1974, it was the only Daytona 450 this race was 10% less laps due to the Energy Crisis in 1973, that was the beginning of the oil embargo!Ha Ha, I wonder if we only knew what was to come! Gas prices were pennies a gallon now it’s dollars per gallon! Remember the gas pumps that only went up to 99.9⛽️cents per gallon! Never again, at least we got to have another round of Muscle Cars starting with the 05 GT Mustang and even that is over now with no more Camaro and the Challenger is even going EV. Hold on to your older vehicles, I still have my 73Bronco I’ve owned for 5 decades! This truck will outlive me! My son is the new owner.🏁Pcat

@@THROTTLEPOWER I already rebuilt the Bronco in1985 with a fiberglass body and it weighs 2600 lbs about half the original weight and was my HotRod for many years till I bought my 09 Mustang GT/CS, it’s still in great condition and is now in good hands with my son. We have plans to put a coyote in it but it has a 302 from a 68 Cougar in it. This engine was bought in a junkyard in Flagler at A-1 salvage in 1983 and is still running in the truck. My son has left Legacy racing for a better opportunity in the truck series and today is his first race as a professional pit crew member on the #32 truck driven by Bret Holmes at North Wilkesboro . He was looking for advancement at legacy but after 2 years with the King he wanted to be on the road going to the tracks and he got an opportunity to do just that! But not with legacy, he got to know Richard Petty as the king would come into the shop every week to see everyone and just last week he got to hang out with him when he detailed a new Supra for a photo shoot and the photographer took a few pictures of him and the king together, He has some great memories of his time there and is grateful for it. Fire It Up, Boys.
When the pit crew would hand you a small paper cup of Coca-Cola during the tire change and fuel-up, and then you'd be on your way.

The motor in this car proves that the Hemi was not a necessity for Mopar to be a force in Nascar. The Wedge, with the improvements the Ford’s 427 saw would have been just as competitive. The Hemi could not take the rpm’s of a Wedge motor nor was it a viable street motor in comparison. The motor in this car sitting in the 64 Plymouth of the Petty’s would have been fast enough to run with the Fords of the time and made for a better handling car.

A real man’s racing stock car. The stars and bars sticker on the fuel cell says it all. Stock car racing was born in the south. When the now “woke nascar” banned these flags at racing events, they lost their true fan base and they lost me as well. Look at Bristol, this race was always sold out, not anymore! Excellent badass video!!

I miss Trans Am racing. I'd love to see a series where the only thing you could add to the car is safety equipment. Other than that, it would have to come as bought at a dealership! And no ovals, just real tracks.
