I saw that same Trotec video a couple of weeks ago myself and very much had the same reaction, their video's started popping up in my feed recently, handy really seeing as we've got a Trotec machine at work.
That inlay trick was very cool. Inlays are one of the main reasons I wish I had a CNC. It would be very cool to pull off an inlay with my diode laser and do much more intricate designs that I think a CNC can do.
A diode laser could totally do this! In terms of detail your going to get pretty close to what a CNC can do, plus you can do multiple colors/wood types using veneers and laser vs the solid wood you'll need for a CNC.
OUTSTANDING video! Great info and you get right to the point without a lot of verbal diarrhea. Clear explanation, fantastic examples, super useful content in the text description section. Please keep up the great work!
We just did the vector outline trick while laser engraving on leather and it turned out awesome. Takes some experimentation, but once everything is dialed in it really makes things pop. Thanks!
Use a press when you glue your inlay. That’s what the pros do for cnc inlays. It just looks so good. If you dent any wood add water and heat with iron to make it swell, then when dry do your sanding. Hydraulic press is best. Cool video btw.
That’s cool, it might be a little different for this, unlike the CNC inlays which have the sloped sides from the v-bit that can guide them into place. Since the veneer is pretty thin I actually found I needed to work the inlays into the pockets a little slower.
Trotech put out some amazing tips. That inlay process is really cool. Also, I've had success with using Powder Coat Paint and curing it with the laser to fill engraves. Deep engrave, fill with powdered paint, engrave again (different power settings) and you've got a perfectly detailed paint job.
I have to say, I appreciate every bit of advice that you give. Even a quick hit help video like this is incredibly insightful! Own a small wood and craft business and have been looking deeply into laser machines, with this channel being #1 for honest resources. Whenever we save up enough, will definitely be using an affiliate link of yours. Almost to 100k!!
I once used a Mazak Optiplex 4020 Fiber III laser to engrave the image with Vader in the middle on stainless steel. I was the lead laser operator at the job at the time lol. For the record those are like a million dollar laser. It engraved insanely fast. Like a deep engraving in 10 minutes or less for a pretty decent size.
Very clever way of using veneer with a laser. 👍🏽 I do this with my CNC but the level of detail you can get from a laser is very impressive. I will probably try this on my XTOOL S1 this weekend.
@ I made a couple of projects using this approach and both came out really good. So I would highly recommend giving this a try. 👍🏽 Regarding my XTOOL…unfortunately I do regret my purchase for one main reason…their support for Lightburn is subpar and I really don’t like the way Xtools software manages layers and power settings. It looks pretty but the way Lightburn is organized just makes it ten times easier to turn layers on & off and see what each layer is set to at a glance. When I bought my S1, I didn’t know about Lightburn at all. Anyway, if I could do it all over again I would find a laser that is 100% compatible with Lightburn and not one that works but has major limitations.
Great video really like the inlay projects. I use Gorilla tape to remove/weed the masking tape off the engraving. You waste tape but it saves a ton of time.
@@makeorbreakshop So I mask the wood, put it in the laser and engrave it. Then I spray paint the engraved part black, then once the paint is dry I cut a strip of duct tape and stick it to the masking tape on the wood and pull the tape up. The duct tape pulls up the masking tape and can get all the little itty bitty pieces. It make comic book corner are pieces with a lot of fine lines so this saves me the trouble of trying to use a dental pick to peel off all the small masking tape pieces. Hope that makes sense.
I don't know why you haven't hit 100,000 because, I've always been interested and now I really want one! I want a laser engraver❤😂 It would be awesome if I was the man that put you over 100,000! Good luck with your channel! I will be glued to your channel whenever I get a chance and I will spread the word!! You're doing awesome.
You'll need probably at least a 10W laser just so you can blast through the material and get a deep enough engrave. Basically any diode or CO2 machine will work since the beam can't cut the metal. The higher you go up on wattage just means you'll be able to do the deep engrave and cut the veneer quicker.
*Great Video, All the Tips are very useful!* 🌟 *I'm getting xtool P2S in Next week so probably going to watch your videos again!* 👍🏻 *You will hit 100k very soon, Good Luck* 👍🏻
I'm starting to watch his videos and been looking then. But with this one I have noticed how often he's adding the "questioning" tone after words, phrases or sentences and I couldn't finish it.
Lang verhaal. Maar alle voorbeelden in de video zijn van amateuristische kwaliteit. Een amateur plukt plaatjes van internet net als jij. Een pro ontwerpt zijn eigen dingen en levert veel betere graveringen.
The editing jumping around is so distracting. Like, you jump around in arm and head locations almost constantly... do another take ibstead of 8 cuts in less than 7 seconds
I see why we’re lacking sponsors. I highly suggest researching the art before judging and actually putting criteria on it. This is the first n my many years of UA-cam I’ve seen that is just ridiculous and desperate. I gotta go judge some UA-camrs.
Could have had a sponsor on it just chose not too. Also not really sure what you’re talking about on the artwork side. I never was trying to judge the artwork, just wanted to show some different techniques regardless of the artwork you are using.
Dude - that veneer inlay technique is next level. Cool format for a video too.
Thanks!

Sweet video man! I didn’t know you could do inlays with a laser!! I just got my x tool P2 set up so I’m looking forward to trying that one day.
Do it!

Hi thank you for this. Very useful.
Did you include the links to the veneer and the metal tape? 😢
Sorry just added it to the description!
Do you have a tutorial on how to do that inlay with the metal powder? If not I’d love to see one!
yeah me too
Great job like always! The tip about engrave against the grain was genius, that is going to help a lot!
it really helps!
Looking good! Can't wait to see the onelaser video.
Just got confirmation its landing in the shop tomorrow!
@makeorbreakshop awesome can't wait! When do you think you'll have a review out then?
Should be next week.
We just did the vector outline trick while laser engraving on leather and it turned out awesome. Takes some experimentation, but once everything is dialed in it really makes things pop. Thanks!
It’s a good one!
Good timing! Navigating a potential purchase and yea... daunting task sorting this all out! What do you think?

Oh using the laser to cure is a really cool idea!

How does it came out? I’m thinking to buy a xtool but my fear is that there is not enough definition (dpi) to do such kind of works

The star wars Aztec design looks awesome!
it's awesome!
That looks great.. I love the veneer idea.... Thanks!!
when I first saw it my mind was blown
Would it be better to seal the wood before engraving it then filling, sanding and finishing?
Yep
Awesome thanks. I'm sure I'll watch this again. Loads of good information for a relative newbie 😊
awesome!
Great video really like the inlay projects. I use Gorilla tape to remove/weed the masking tape off the engraving. You waste tape but it saves a ton of time.
great idea! Do you mean you tape it to the top after cutting the pieces out to transfer?

Great video. What settings did you use on your laser for the veneer portion of the engrave? Thank you!
Thanks
Thanks!
Love your videos!! Keep doing what you do!!
definitely earned that subscribe, very impressed.
Great tips, thank you 🙂
No worries!
Did the lightburn inverse function not work? Did you get a different outcome using that function or did you not remember it?
do you share what speed/power settings can/should be for different projects on diff woods?

Great video with some good tips and final bonus great idea. Lets hope the UA-cam God rewards you so you can make more of these and less laser reviews.
More to come!
Thanks for sharing, what kind of laser printer would you recommend and wattage? I’m asking as I would like to try doing something like this.

Do you have that star wars file so we can try it out?
What color liquid did you use?
black
@@makeorbreakshop I mean what brand or what is it a mixture of?
@Gadgetbk Starbond
*Great Video, All the Tips are very useful!* 🌟

You’re going to love it!
DAMN, i haven't thought about using aluminium backing for this kind of thing
This is the way
can't wait to see your image engraving video, definitely something I've struggled with!
Coming soon!
what color glue is this?
Black
@@makeorbreakshop sry ... I mean the brand :D
@riot4817 oh sorry, it’s Starbond
Where did you get the map of Middle Earth? I can't find anything that's suitable for engraving.
You forgot to add a source for the aluminum/adhesive backed tape and the veneer assortment. Thanks
added it, sorry!
@@makeorbreakshop Thanks very much for the references.
HOW DOES IT WORK ON LEATHER?
Really good video!! Great tips!! But the uptalk 😅
👍👍
lucky you dont my have my laser. if you use it without air assist for engraving you have to clean the lens every few minutes.
I'm starting to watch his videos and been looking then. But with this one I have noticed how often he's adding the "questioning" tone after words, phrases or sentences and I couldn't finish it.

This guy is obsesed with Star Wars series as i can see. I actualy didn't like those series.. at all.
This is the way
The editing jumping around is so distracting. Like, you jump around in arm and head locations almost constantly... do another take ibstead of 8 cuts in less than 7 seconds
your really going to hate all the other videos on my channel then...I might not be for you.
Perhaps distracting, but shaved a good 5 min off the video perhaps.

the technique was stolen from Trotec. actually the whole project. He's a jerk that he didn't mention that
He gave full credit to Trotec at 7:57
I gave credit to Trotec before I explained it
The video is great, anf yes, he did mention Trotec
Are you retarded?
Pay attention. He credit’d Trotec
