This restomod is exactly what it needs to be: the transportation of the forms, the spirit, the intuition of those engineers who began to establish this work of art some 50 (!) years ago. I myself (54) picked up his 928 with my father in Zuffenhausen in 1978. I now drive an S4. I was an automotive journalist and am really ´chemically cleansed´ when it comes to performance and new vehicles. But the 928 is still so relevant today that I am amazed almost every day. I would buy this restomod in a heartbeat, it is brilliantly good, thanks to its spiritual fathers. Yesterday and today. Thank you for this interview and video! Best regards from Hamburg
Finally a restomod that prioritizes comfort over performance, having a GT as the goal is closing a huge gap in the restomod market… Bravo As for the wheels, they are clearly inspired by the OEM Pirelli wheels ❤
This reimagining of the 928 is at the level of Singer doing it with the 911. This is an exquisitely designed car, and very appropriate for one of the most underrated Porsche models in its historical lineup. Now we get to see those 'ahead of its time' designs modernized in this specimen. The black housing for the retractable headlights fade into the night making it look like two orbs over the car. The tail horizontal tail light is out of this world, the detail is beautiful.
I actually had 2 928. One a 928 S4 manual, the other a GTS manual. I like what he did, BUT there’s one thing I wish he did differently: The lights! I wish he would have made them flush AND made a less cluttered rear design. The rear with those edges and stripes is so busy, compared to the clean, flowing, organic body! Best wishes to everyone nonetheless!!
@@DKarGarage properly sorted, absolutely. The youngest 928 is nearing 30 years old, most are more like 40. I’d figure the cost to buy one, then 10k in deferred maintenance right away. @@DKarGarageI'd venture to say the 968 is going to give you less problems than a 928 would. You have to reeeally love the 928 to justify it's costs. It was one of the most expensive cars in the world and has advanced systems for the time. These systems will likely need attention after 40 or so years, many being vacuum assisted. I would choose elsewhere unless you're obsessed with the shape/history/era like I am. Some of the NLA parts will make your eyes water. You have to be ready to jump full stop with a 928. Thanks for producing this interview. Wanted to see a good walk around for a while now. It's neat to hear the conceptual intent and I'm most impressed with keeping the original 928 engine and transaxle. The expense of this project must be astronomical. So many excellent styling cues taken from excellent Porsche sources including within the entire 928 line, like the 3-spoke steering wheel from the early 928. The reimagined gullideckel 'manhole' wheels are something else, art in its own right. The inspiration from the period racing wheels is really what sets them apart. Clearly this project has a long way to go, and will need deep pockets and/or investors to realize entirely. I'll be cheering along the way, and wish Thierry the best! -Jim, 928 Classics
I was intrigued to see that much of Dawson Sellars work on the dash was retained, though not the steering wheel, which would be on my list, but hey, I already have one!
I’ve always had a major love affair with the 928, especially the s4 but this vid just turned me into an addict lol. So cool to see this platform getting a serious redo because it deserves the treatment, awesome job!
It's not bad looking. But personally I would have kept everything from 928 GTS exterior and just modernized the front end. Without popup headlights. And perhaps changed the rear lights to leds. 928 shape is so timeless that it didn't need any other exterior changes. GTS was the pinnacle. Cheers.
Back in 2002 I sold my 928 GT manual and I have driven and owned lots of GT’s and sportscars since, but I still long for that great 928! The design has aged so well and that V8 with that dogshift was just unique. This restomod looks great too and it will probably be the better car, but my choice would be to have a 100% original restored 928.
What an amazing take on the 928. Very fitting the bar is set so high with Thierry as I have always understood what the 928 meant to Porsche. It is nice to see such a well thought out plan perfectly coupled between design, engineering and artistry to keep this model alive.
I have driven many 928's 928 S, S4, GTS, and CS. (Club Sport was pretty rare) The replacement for this car was the Panamera in a way but its a 4 door. I really wish they made a 2 door version and made it a 2+2 layout.
The 928’s biggest competitor was always the 911. The problem is that it’s so useable that it makes a GT all but redundant. I’d like to see that too but there can’t be many people who walk past a 911 Turbo to get to a 2 door Panamera?
This video made me appreciate not only this restomod much more (so much thought and design work went into it!) but equally the original 928, as this shows how hard and costly it is to improve on the original design. The feature I love most is the indented rear lights, combining the better looks of the old body style with the broader S4 lights. Amazing job.
Actually I’m really happy to hear that because we wanted to put out a video that took the explanation of the process of a restomod and what’s coming next for this one a stage further. Appreciate the feedback!
IMO he has to do a lot more to make it not just an extensive body kit... what Singer did is pretty cool, but the original 928 is already a far more rare and special car than a 911... probably best to leave it original... when you do a lot to a car and leave the old rubber seals and body gaps it just doesn't look right. Do people forget that the 928 broke the world land speed record for production cars in 1986. On this body kit the panel gaps are old-school, need to be updated... there are plenty of 928 body kits, IMO the original body is fine, what usually lacks in 928's are the interior pieces that deteriorate quickly and the aftermarket is lacking. If he's going to do all that carbon he should just make a new car out of carbon, but all the parts and tech and body gaps and seals should be modernized.
First time I drove a 928 was at the Porsche Experience with Vic Elford. Yup, THAT Vic Elford. It impressed me which suprised me because I was a die-hard 911 fan.
This car looks great - like a Singer is to a 911! I’ve owned 12 Porsches and the 928S4 was by far my favorite (except for my current Cayman S :) Not discussed in this video is the Achilles heel for these cars - the fact that everything that moves on the car is moved by a vacuum tube or a computer with a 40-year-old printed circuit board. Of course all of that stuff is set to fail around now and the car has to be comprehensively dismantled to repair. And if you need to replace a computer you are replacing it with a computer that has sat on a shelf for 40 years. Not for the faint of heart!
There are a few good people in the community that specialize in updating the computers. Its not that big of deal. The78-79 had more vacuum lines. As time progresses, they started to move more electronic. There are pros and cons to both systems. But I don't care what car you buy that's 40 years old, stuff will need to be replaced.
10:10 - What a salesman that they are keeping the original door because it is iconic, can they not mimic the same design with carbon fiber? I could be wrong, regardless what an undertaking and project, looks Ace!

The 928 has always been my younger self's hero car... And Thierry has made it into something extremely desirable. I am looking forward to hearing more about this intriguing build. Keeping my boyhood 928 dreams active and more intense than ever.
Nice video as usual Jay, we owner of 928 love these kind of ideas. I'm hoping more and more people will venture into 928 restomod as most of us can't afford a 400k-600k price. Merci from France and so long. If i knew you was in France, i would have loved taki g you out for a meal and show you my 928😊
Well done. Obviously massive amounts of time and engineering have gone into this car. Great to keep the 928 legacy alive, but certainly not in *my* future at that price point.
The 928 is a hugely solid basis for a restomod. I am so down for this! Edit: Having seen the full vid I'm blown away by the amount of re-engineering that's gone into this. That's some car!!!
I've lived so long that a vehicle that was sold as new when i started my career is being restomoded! 😂 looking forward to see the actual finished product.
One can imagine why this would be a success. Deservedly so. It was such an amazing and unique concept. While Porsche don't always design cars based on beauty alone, this Teutonic crosser of Continents was unique and without peer. Maybe a later model Aston might be in the same ballpark. Sure it had it's idiosyncrasies but cast your mind back to the 70's and 80's which were it's domain. What other vehicle could you compare it with? Most people don't realise just how great the 944 turbo was either. It was a direct competitor to the 928. Was indecently fast. Could cruise at 250kph all day. Had very good storage in the rear. Probably a little too compact to perambulate guests in the rear that weren't 2 year olds in any comfort...but that's by the by. Both cars were extremely capable and still worthy of investment today.
Two pedals or three? I'm guessing two, given the GT emphasis. Which is smart and refreshing. There are too many restomods stiffened to the point where they are straight up uncomfortable and noisy. This one looks absolutely stunning. I can't wait until there is a test drive on UA-cam.
Wow! Seriously nice car. Needs some trim to finish the front edge of the rear trunk carpet that shows between the seats but I am sure they will get that detail right on the production cars.
damn ...for my next xmas !! -) ...when passion is a driving force !! good to see that our beloved 928 is getting some amazing recognition ..great video ..Thanks Jay for bringing up this amazing car to people's attention ..
At 14 years old, my dad imported a grey metallic 928 because he couldn't find a manual in the states. I learned how to drive manual with it and have always loved it. Put the 4.0 hot V from mercedes AMG in that with a manual transmission and I'll buy it.
@@JAYREAD LOL! I was 14, sorry. He was definitely older than that. I have always loved the 928 - its the very reason I'm considering an AMG GT-C for my next car. Can't give up on that round AZZ
I think the rear taillights should be flush with the body, similar to GTS. And the rear fender flares should have been blended into the doors. They should contour similar to the way the front fenders are. It just doesn't look right the way it stops short of the doors. Otherwise, it's gorgeous!
You do realize that its a base 928 with basically a wide body kit, and some new LED lights front and back... that's it. The reason why the rear tail lights are not flush is because of the wide body kit and with flushed lights it would give the rear what we call a big ass. So the lines are deceptive in a way by not making it flush. But other than some new wheels, the body kit redesigned lights and front bumper. Its pretty stock.
I think the statement "only person in the world trying to give the 928 a future" is a bit shortsightedf. Many vendors, including porsche themselves, still make tons of parts for these cars. And people like you and I are restoring and talking about them online, which is also good for the cars. But I agree that Nardone has taken it to a different level and place than others have since Koenig, Buchmann, Strosek in a long time.
!!!WoooW!!! What a beauty! Absolutely love the whole project...this car always deserved bein brought back to life! Great they made rear fender as circular as the front. The original flat rear fender was weird. When I was a kid the wide body turbo version by Koenig Specials made me bananas...It looked spectacular and bullet fast! I wonder if next phase of the project will be some version where is optional transparent polycarbonate up opening sunroof instead of full carbon fibre panel.... Do customers refer to flexible ground clearance via some hydraulilc units providing lift for getting over speed humps? Where I live the sports cars really suffer for belly, front lip and side skirts damage due to high curbs and pot holes... Was mentioned 6-speed a manual one? I hope so....
I had been buying new 911s since 82 as my daily driver. I decided to keep the one l had been driving (now a Singer) and lease a new one in 95. There was a loaded to the gills 95 928 GTS on the showroom floor with sticker just shy of $100k. My guy there said the had some kind of lease incentive so l drove it, loved it, leased it. I almost wished l had bought it when the lease was up. It was fast and comfortable and if the opportunity presented itself it could cruise all day at 150 mph. It was a manual too. I had a Testarossa at the time and it did everything better than the Ferrari. I turned it in with 38k miles and got another 911. When this guy has some completed cars l might check one out.
Thank you for posting, Michael. It is always special when someone with real and extended experience comments and offers their view. If there was ever an opportunity to visit you a your Singer, don’t hesitate to reach out! Thank you for commenting. Videocarclub@gmail.com
Ever since I was little(1980s), Ive LOVED 928s!! As a kid, if I saw a 928 on the freeway, I would ask my Mom to get directly behind it, so I could stare at its UFO-like ass end. I feel the same way about Honda CRXs(88-91) too, lol! At 16yo my cousin and I test drove a 928(auto) from a used car lot. I was amazed by the rear seat sun visors, lol..... I kinda wished he wouldve made the tail lights red and amber, but I love EVERYTHING ELSE about the exterior of this car. Nice work!! Beautiful!
@@JAYREAD This was the first vid of yours that Ive ever watched(I actually watched on tv, but I cant leave comments on tv)... I just scanned through your uploads real quick and liked what I saw! Subbed. Keep up the great work and good luck with your channel.
The 924 front treatment is okay, but are rectangular headlight divots an improvement? Or the aero mods on the sills? The interior is slick, but updated modern electronics help do that. Crucible Coachworks has a 928 on youtube with some interesting body mods that are well done.
I absolutely love my 928S. It cost me 9K, and I have spent over 70K on it since I purchased it over 13 years ago. That doesn't include tyres or gas - just repairs and maintenance! So, don't ever be stupid enough to buy a 928, unless you have a big budget for it! Edit: getting rid of the tilting binnacle was a really bad idea. And only getting 400BHP from the 5-litre? It should be 500+. Ouch.
I have looked at a few of your postings. I live near you in Ridgefield. I picked up a 19 cayenne s, would love to get recommendations on service providers vrs. Danbury porche.😊
Very cool. What happens if something breaks? Is there going to be some sort of service network?! With nearly every part being custom it seems like a real risk owning one of these.
This looks amazing! I love the exterior and i think they did an awesome job on redesigning it while keeping the original identity. The only thing I don't really get is there interior, i believe it's a bit simplistic, dose it not have gauges, or what's going on in front of the driver? Thanks for this video!
Agreed! Remember that this is just a mocked up interior. The production version will be different. This whole car was built to gauge reaction and solicit feedback. Thierry is listening. You’ll see changes, I am sure.
How to make a beautiful car ugly. Rear and front lights, the scoops, the body kit, all ruin the original design. Pity really. The 928 deserves so much better.
The car is beautiful, and I wish you great success with it. The video spends too much time with you guys in the frame and not enough really good views of the car. Just my opinion.
I strongly disagree with the cheap way he assessed the rear lights. Everything else is minimalistically beautifull: the spirit, the essence of the 928 is definitely there ! BRAVO !
The exterior looks amazing (especially the rear), but it's the interior that stole my mind, perfectly minimalist with all that aluminium, it's like the interior of a 2005 aston martin vantage but even better and more minimal..
Fully agree with you. It’s perfect execution. Everything you need and nothing you don’t (screens included). Wait till you see the production version! I’m hoping one day to do a film on it.
What an incredible car, I would love to commission one if only i could spare the cash 😢. I really hope he gets plenty of orders after creating such a fantastic product
Remarkably the price is in many ways equivalent to when they were current. €600,000 is less than a modest house. In 1984, my first house was several thousand cheaper than the 928 sat outside.
The engineering upgrades on this car are interesting…but to my eyes anyway, the front and rear styling is uglier than the original. Fascinated by the idea of a leather Pasha interior though. When I was a kid my hero Porsche was the 928, not the 911 like many others. Still, my appreciation of the 911 has increased over the years. Especially after the introduction of the first Restomod Singer 911s. But that place in my heart for the 928 remains. Again as a kid, I was with my dad in his Jag at a petrol station filling up. When I guy in a 928 pulled up to the petrol station. I told my father how cool that car looked, he then had a chat with the guy. Ending up with me being invited to sit in the 928s driver seat and play about for a bit…and it was really cool 😁👍
Ah that’s a great story! So much of what we see in childhood remains in adulthood. I’ve loved these since I was a kid too. We should salute Thierry for this car just because it keeps it alive.
@@JAYREAD oh and another little thing I remember from that meeting…when my dad went to speak to the man, just before inviting me to the driver’s seat. He flashed those distinctive pop-up 928 headlights at me, while I was still sitting in the Jag.

I absolutely love it. Those wheels are insane.😮😮
Same!
artwork on wheels - amazing design and build quality
Two pedals or three? I'm guessing two, given the GT emphasis. Which is smart and refreshing. There are too many restomods stiffened to the point where they are straight up uncomfortable and noisy. This one looks absolutely stunning. I can't wait until there is a test drive on UA-cam.
Three! Six speed!
This car will be the talk of the world
Wow! Seriously nice car. Needs some trim to finish the front edge of the rear trunk carpet that shows between the seats but I am sure they will get that detail right on the production cars.
Absolutely stunning
damn ...for my next xmas !! -) ...when passion is a driving force !! good to see that our beloved 928 is getting some amazing recognition ..great video ..Thanks Jay for bringing up this amazing car to people's attention ..
Glad your enjoyed it! Thanks!
Stunning work and looks great.
WOW I would buy one for sure. Beautiful job
Maybe it helps that I am already a 928 fan, but this car? If I had the money - one would be mine, like yesterday.: What an ABSOLUTELY beautiful car.
Same here! ❤️
Back lights are funky. Otherwise I prefer the original's looks though.
Win lottery... Phone call to Thierry. Get me on that waiting list ASAP. Owned 928 S4s in the past and love to drive one again.
Haha! I’d do the same!
At 14 years old, my dad imported a grey metallic 928 because he couldn't find a manual in the states. I learned how to drive manual with it and have always loved it.
Put the 4.0 hot V from mercedes AMG in that with a manual transmission and I'll buy it.
You were 14 or he was?! Great cars though and nice idea!
Yes, you get the gist of what I’m saying. ❤️
I wish you had tested the back seat space. After all, it’s supposed to be a GT.
Haha! I couldn’t find anyone who is 3 foot tall and has no legs! Sorry for the omission! 🙏
FANTASTIC!!!!!
Such a good video..he is so passionate about this car. Now if I can only find 450k
Thanks mate. I agree, truly passionate and attending to detail too. I want one too!
Wow i would like to see him build a 944🤔😎
Well…
Always loved the 928, love it even more now.
Same.
Absolutely stunning this restomod, if I win the lottery I will order one 😊
Me too. Definitely. Perfect car for me!
Wow it’s wonderful great job
Yes, 6 speed! Stay tuned! We will find out more!
This is a beautiful restomod and is probably the closest concept that resembles the original.
AGREED!
Fantastic looking car ! Please try the black turbo twists on her !
@@JAYREAD Thanks Jay. What part of the country are you from?
@MichaelRoy-hc3lz I am in Connecticut!
This car is so beautiful .
AGREED!
Fantastic work! Would love one🥳
Me too! Haha!
This is sic!!! Great job Jay. Wow!!!!😮
Nice work!! Beautiful!
I’m the same! Thank you!
@@JAYREAD This was the first vid of yours that Ive ever watched(I actually watched on tv, but I cant leave comments on tv)... I just scanned through your uploads real quick and liked what I saw! Subbed. Keep up the great work and good luck with your channel.
@badbaddolemike thank you so much! I hope you like what you see! ❤️
Great stuff! Now to do one for the 944 & 968 turbos!!
The 924 front treatment is okay, but are rectangular headlight divots an improvement? Or the aero mods on the sills? The interior is slick, but updated modern electronics help do that. Crucible Coachworks has a 928 on youtube with some interesting body mods that are well done.
2024 = 24 year 928S owner here... and that car is stunning! ♥#tessaslegacy
Would love to hear it run. Please fire it up!
Ouch.
$70k! I take it that it is now fully restored!?
Stunning car
What a work or art. He really should be proud of his product. Just spectacular.
I wondered if anyone would attempt this. I think the 928 would be a great platform for the “Singer treatment”.
I prefer to keep my 1985S and 1988S4 as close to stock as possible
I’d like one of each TBH!
Beautiful
Similar in 3/4 rear panning gives
Aston Martin vibes
I LOVE this car. Beautiful!
Same here!
I have looked at a few of your postings. I live near you in Ridgefield. I picked up a 19 cayenne s, would love to get recommendations on service providers vrs. Danbury porche.😊
Speed Sport Tuning in Danbury!
Very cool. What happens if something breaks? Is there going to be some sort of service network?! With nearly every part being custom it seems like a real risk owning one of these.
I’m not sure. I suspect these cars will do very few miles in reality which mitigates the risk.
@@JAYREAD man, id drive the hell out of one of those.
@geoffreycheeping3902 Haha! Yeah, me too actually! Fair point!
Happy New Year 🎉 Jay 😘 Great video!👍👍
Happy New Year! Thanks! ❤️
Un chef d’œuvre !
Je suis d'accord!
It looks great! However restoration of mine 928 killed my love for this model. When i was ready the best moment of having 928 was selling it
It takes patience, for sure! And money. LOTS of money!
I love how this looks like it could be a brand new 928. For 2024.
...looks almost better than the original one, especially in terms of proportions, wheels and stance 👍
Agreed! Happy New Year!
@@JAYREAD happy new year to you and your family as well 👍
@flatsixer70 Thanks mate!
@@JAYREAD aha, got it, it would have been a shame to not have an equally gorgeous interior to compliment the exterior, but that's good to know!
that car is beautiful
How to make a beautiful car ugly. Rear and front lights, the scoops, the body kit, all ruin the original design.
Pity really. The 928 deserves so much better.
The car is beautiful, and I wish you great success with it. The video spends too much time with you guys in the frame and not enough really good views of the car. Just my opinion.
Love the look at the back. Not sure on the headlights though as i think it looks a bit bug eyed.
Absolute perfection 👌
Nice video Jay Happy New Year to you and the family
Happy New Year, John! Thank you!
stunning in and out
Yes please!
I wish they had made the headlights so they were under bodt colored covers when not in use.
Fun video! thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Now they need to remake Risky Business with the restomod 928.
I strongly disagree with the cheap way he assessed the rear lights. Everything else is minimalistically beautifull: the spirit, the essence of the 928 is definitely there ! BRAVO !
Absolutely gorgeous I want one please! 😂
I LOVE RESTOMOD LOVE LOVE LOVE
looks fantastic. super classy
I ❤️ the effort and thought that went into one of my fave cars
The exterior looks amazing (especially the rear), but it's the interior that stole my mind, perfectly minimalist with all that aluminium, it's like the interior of a 2005 aston martin vantage but even better and more minimal..
Fully agree with you. It’s perfect execution. Everything you need and nothing you don’t (screens included). Wait till you see the production version! I’m hoping one day to do a film on it.
What an incredible car, I would love to commission one if only i could spare the cash 😢. I really hope he gets plenty of orders after creating such a fantastic product
Same here. It’s really wonderful. ❤️
Remarkably the price is in many ways equivalent to when they were current. €600,000 is less than a modest house. In 1984, my first house was several thousand cheaper than the 928 sat outside.
@johnsherborne3245 very good point!
@@JAYREAD indeed 🙂
@@JAYREAD oh and another little thing I remember from that meeting…when my dad went to speak to the man, just before inviting me to the driver’s seat. He flashed those distinctive pop-up 928 headlights at me, while I was still sitting in the Jag.
@@DavidDatura you were hooked! Haha! ❤
Beautiful
What porsche is that in the background? The light blue 911s?
Sport Classic on the right and a Singer on the left.
