      Conservatorship can have a LOT of issues with it, mainly the absolute loss of power and autonomy a person has over themself. This can lead to theft, murder, the inability to seek treatment (more specifically, to choose your own providers of treatment and medicine), people losing their homes, their children, having their wills rewritten, losing contact with friends, etc.
      Like, even people without disabilities fall for this crap all the time. It's why there should seriously be mandatory internet classes in schools. When I was a kid, we had talks about the basics all the time, even with cops coming in for presentations. Mostly it was about stranger danger but the internet was young, wild, and unmanned at the time, where stranger danger was about it for a kid - there weren't nearly as many traps and pitfalls regarding finances, identity, and personal data as there are now, where kids can themselves be pulled into money sinks because even legit companies have no qualms with shoving ads and marketing into a preteen's face, making stores and online purchases super easy with 0 parental controls to stop it.
      It's sad, but expected, and the best way to prevent it is for everyone to actually learn how the internet works.

I for one worked my butt off my whole life & currently draw disability that I paid dearly for when I was working and I will spend my money on anything I damn well please…The same goes for her, back off! She got SCAMMED and that’s the offensive part…The news media added & accentuated the fact that she’s on disability & got scammed out of $1,000, THEIR BAD! Who cares where her money came from, she’s a victim of a SCAMMER that made a FREE $1,000 off of…That’s the problem, not the girl spending her money!!!! Others have made this same purchase based on what the advertiser stipulated in the ad. These others didn’t have any disabilities whatsoever. You are further victimizing her and making false judgements because she has physical disabilities. Your are not being fair to her. And comments like this are hard to read. You know nothing about her or her life or her abilities based on this one mistake. And that she said no after they continued to ask for more money tells me she figured out all on her lonesome that it was a scam and put an end to it. Some others who purchased with no disabilities let it go on for longer than she had and spent more money than she had. Please stop judging people so harshly and quickly.

However, giving free reign to spend a lot of money to someone that can't afford to lose it...her mother should have been approving everything over the initial purchase of the doll. There are a lot of China ads on EBay that are not artist dolls in the $50-$80 range. Those are toy dolls. What’s worse they use fake photos or photos they steal from reborn artists to make you think that’s the realistic doll you’re getting. Be aware too that some of these Chinese sellers are from CA. There are vinyl Reborns (can range from $200-$800, some pre-owned), and full bodied silicone Reborns that are in the $1000s, (some silicones could be fakes). Realborns are vinyl dolls computerized from a real baby. There’s no such thing if listed as “vinyl silicone” as these are two different materials. Make sure the artist has many photos of the baby, close ups of feet, hands and face. Make sure they have full descriptions of what steps the artist used to make the doll. It’s also good to ask questions. I’m a reborn artist and have seen the horrors of some of these scam sales. It’s taken away our sales and effort in creating them.

      You're all not as smart as you think. If she is disabled she's getting social security, and the specific section is probably Disabled Adult Child (DAC). The way one gets adult disabled child is for the parent (or grandparent ...whoever is alive raising the child) to work and pay social security into the system. So it is something that was paid into, by her parents and even her parents parents...she's now taking it back out as was the plan all along with social security and the reason we pay in- so we and if necessary our children and grandchildren are covered. By your standards that is like telling you that once you put the money in the bank you can't just pull it out and use it on whatever you wish anytime you feel like it. That somehow it is the others deposits at the bank that are supporting you and thus they have some kind of say in how you use it.

    • @jenx5870
      @jenx5870 Рік тому

      @@WindsofChange She has her own apartment. She is receiving Social Security Disability payments, which are paid for by taxpayers. She is no longer under her mother's care, and she is an independent adult receiving her own form of disability. That is how social security works. Once the child reaches the age of majority and is no longer a student, they are no longer under the parent's financial responsibility because they have their own SS number and case number. They do it to protect against financial exploitation. The mother would have to become her adult legal guardian. Just because someone has disabilities doesn't mean they aren't of sound mind and body and aren't capable of living on their own, which is what she is doing. If her daughter moved in with her, then she could collect social security benefits for having her disabled daughter living with her, however. That isn't happening now. It would still be on the taxpayer's dime, though.

    • @WindchymeK9
      @WindchymeK9 Рік тому

      @@jenx5870 As a person that both receives SS Disability and is eligible for adult disabled child with one piece of documentation (at over 50 years old), and the mother of another grown adult that receives Adult Disabled Child from social security and who lives in her own place and of whom I do not have guardianship, you have NO idea what you are talking about. There is no social security benefits for caring for a disabled person, child or otherwise. There may be IHSS payment that can be received for that kind of care. If the parents didn't raise the child and the child was raised by the grandparents, then the child is eligible for adult disabled child off of their record.
