I never thought I'd see an Ek hatch on Powernation. D16 is a great little engine that lives to rev.
@Jack Russelle Lewis yes man D series was my shit a decade ago and i always told myself I'd never piss with any of the Y blocks
Needs a rebuild and turbo, ASAP!
One of the eks in my yard might just get revived yet.
Too bad most of them got butchered by ricers.
@@2strokeFORever Same here, my 2000 sedan lasted a whole 100,000 before it shit out rod bearings
Holy crap a company that actually takes the time and puts a fuel pump access door in! Any you wonder why everyone likes Honda everything.. Their attention to detail, reliability and ease of maintenance shows their built by engineers and technicians that actually pay attention on how stuff is suppose to be built!
Hyundai does too
Calm down buddy all gas pumps are easy
This👆🏻👆🏻
Most car platforms have this access because the tank is generally below the seat. In many larger vehicles the tank isn't in the same spot so the access point wouldn't work.
If they don't? Tinsnips work quite well.
Here's a 10mm, now you can take an entire honda apart
But where's the 10mm
Can't even change the oil with a 10 mil
Damn 10mm's.
Haha, I get what you said! Used to be an Acura tech and it was great as there were only so many sizes you needed. Pretty much if you had a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and 17mm you were all set. You could pull most of the car apart and the 17mm was for the oil drain plug and some suspension bolts. Easy to work on, at least the older Hondas.
@@phw340 newer add an 8mm, 19mm and 22mm. Have an Element and Odyssey in my fleet, plus 5 Honda motorcycles.
14 vehicles in all.
Wow, I'm impressed, this has to be the first tuner car I've seen on this show.... I'm a small block guy, but still nice to see a 4 banger.
They had a Mazdaspeed 3 a little while back
It's barried deep in their archives of PN. They did a Speed3, S14 LS swap and etc I don't remember of the top of my head.
@@2fast4all Way way back on the original horsepower tv they did some upgrades on a teal civic
@@justinpeterson6839 an episode is here on UA-cam but the official powerblock doesn’t post those old ones for some reason.
@@RetroCheater81 Yup on powernation it only goes back to season 8. I remember that car getting a lot of hate because they wasted like 10k on it and made only a few more horsepower than a stock car and spent most of the money on dress up stuff
I still can’t get over how many pocket tools pat always has in his shirt. 😂😂
I have a friend like this. I make fun of him but he always complains when we on a bind and I ask him for the tool and he has it. He’s like “you keep making fun of me and I keep saving your ass”
Hes a walking armory
Pocket tools accumulated means more skills and experience working on cars
@@rolon-ew5kl and hip issues

Great to see some Honda love here. There is a huge audience out there for these sorts of chassis.
They are pretty much what's left that isn't absurdly overpriced. Even mid 90s Camaros, Mustangs, 4x4s, etc are to the point that even people with good incomes can't afford them. Personally I'd like to do a 240sx with an LS swap and a 6 speed for a weekend toy.
I grew up working on mustangs and being around american muscle now I drive and build hondas great to see yall doing a honda build
Aint nothing like pulling the head and oil pan on the d16y7 dropping in vitara pistons and speed factory no notch rods and making 400 plus reliable horsepower
Iv waited 25 yrs for these to be taken serious...thank you guys..
Bro they don't seem to be taking it seriously
Yea a lot of condescending comments. I understand Honda isn't the best but it has potential to be a 500+ hp car just like any v8
Bro it doesn't have enough power for 100hp
@@GodKing804 anything is possible if you throw a shit ton of money in it..
Power Nation has done so few "imports" that it's nice to see this for a change. You chose one of the most popular platforms to start with. I've love to see some BMW or even domestic 4 cylinder action on some of these shows. You have an opportunity to influence a younger audience with some of these "entry level" cars.
There's not enough time in an episode to take a BMW apart.
@@esnebta Agree. Prefer the Honda content. BMW's suck and I have owned them.
@@esnebta LMAO
It’s as if you guys have just discovered what a fwd car is 😂
‘It sits different on the dyno. I don’t know, it’s just weird to me’ 👍🏻😂
They sound stupid when they talk like that.
Powernation should have a show just for import/foreign cars. I would watch it all the time!!!
They used to, but the hosts were these 2 twins that talked with that ghetto/prison accent, didn't do any of the work and it was a total flop. Couldn't understand a word they said. BTW I'm also a big fan of Volkswagen
Saw the EK in the Garage and had to click without thinking. Love power nation in the mornings!
My Honda S2000 revved to 9,000 RPM from the factory, incredible car....Nice to see some Import Love on the channel! For the Civic a motor swap wouldve been ideal 2.4L K24 can do amazing numbers with basic boltons and a tune easily 250 FWHP....Motors are very inexpressive and have the ability to use several different types of forced induction....
Always been a VW guy, but those K series motors are phenomenal
@Klowny You an expert in that?
this series is going to be fun to watch, thanks!
Damn. I’d LOVE to see Pat build up a Honda B or K engine.
I hope they tune this and then K20 or K24 swap it!
at the very least a b20
I would just build the d16
Right! Or how about a fully built H22 turbo
True k swap
@@AdaptivePerformanceGarage D16 with a small spooly turbo would be cool.
I like how all guys laughed at the little Civic when they first say it but they were all smiles and laughs on the road test. Then it was the same story at the dyno haha. Civics are just fun, plain and simple.
Omg I’ve waited so long for this, one of my favorite channels doing a Japanese inspired built since most the time you guys do big American v8 builds witch I don’t mind at all but it’s cool to see y’all working on Japanese cars once in a while
Wow. Never in my lifetime, I'd get to see an EK on powernation. Hahaha. Love it. Funny to see how foreign this Honda is to them.
Y'know, honestly? For Carcass, I think I really like this one. My brother actually has the previous generation of this car, which I prefer the bodylines of. Rice cookers like this are DEFINITELY up their alley.
There's nothing rice about this is still has all the factory parts
@Adam Chapman Man, can you guys chill? My family and I have a habit of calling any small car that's Japanese a Rice Cooker, regardless if it's modified or not. It's just a silly, but affectionate nickname.
@@eddierools so I guess an SRT-4 or Cobalt SS is a corn cooker since its American?
Power Nation or whatever it was called 20 years ago did a Civic nitrous build. This makes the 2nd Civic ever.
This (Rock Auto) is (Rock Auto) definitely (Rock Auto) a (Rock Auto) different (Rock Auto) type (Rock Auto) of (Rock Auto) project (Rock Auto).
I see what you did there
Rock Auto rocks. I've saved literally hundreds of dollars buying parts from them for my 90 Honda Civic.
that thing had 106 flywheel stock. And that was over 22yrs ago. 93 to the ground is preety sweet. Only 14
%drivetrain loss
I love American engines but I'm stoked to see this build! I'd love for y'all to start adding more Japanese build projects into your shows to keep things fresh. If you ever want to do a 77 280Z restore (including a Chevy V8 swap), I got one in my garage in need of some love :)
I’m glad power nation embraced the new wave of racing platforms.
Ahah love how he pulled the dip stick and was bone dry 😂 but yea never thought I’d see a Honda on PN
Love the content. Never owned a Honda but definitely understand the allure of the tuner scene. I look forward to it. Curious how much you are going to turn the turbo up with keeping stock bottom end and how much hp you create. Maybe you plan to disassemble the block and put different rods and pistons, lower compression to make way for the turbo. But with a tired motor, putting a turbo on it can be a bit dodgy.
Gonna be fun to watch. Truth car enthusiasts appreciate all different platforms and good to see you embrace the tuner scene as well. If you get a chance to drive a Honda Type R, they are pretty awesome.
I’d never thought I’d see this in my lifetime
Finally some JDM projects!!💪💪💪
Did y’all install that air filter upside down?
The old one was upside down, and than he installed the new one upside down also
@@caseyjones1999 Yeah, I thought the metal grate was supposed to protect the pleats, but after them seeing it install it I started doubting if I was correct.
The real question is did y’all spray paint that air filter to make it look dirty? Sure looked that way to me
Never clicked that fast for power nation. Not because it's a honda but it's because they are gutting and playing with a japanese 4 bangers!! Indeed a first for them. Hopefully not the last
Thank you so much for doing this project! I love the show and the channel, but I get bored with muscle cars and V8s. I LOVED the series you did on the Ford 300 recently. So cool to see a 4 cyl!
Fun cars to tune and drive hard. No matter how much bad beef they get I’ve built many Honda’s and still build them all for fun and reliability u can’t beat em
Very interesting to see guys who aren’t into Honda’s try and build one. Intrigued to see how it will play out.
It's usually terrible, but you occasionally get some unique insight and solutions. Neither so far.
@@nobodynoone2500 yeah it’s been pretty bad
My dad had a Civic hatchback from that era (he had a long commute to work). I was driving a pick-up at the time, so I loved borrowing it. It was like a go-cart. Not fast, but it handled so well.
My daily driver is a Honda Fit and it's the same deal. Dead nuts reliable and it's a hoot to throw through the mountain corners.. doesn't do so well on the mountain hill straight-aways though 😁
The early civics 88-01 had double wishbone suspension. Honda amandoned it in 2001, and by 2015, even acuras now have econobox struts instead. Sorry, even the fit doesn't handle as good.
Holy infomercial Batman! First 12 minutes is nothing but go buy this stuff here.
This comment was brought to by ROCK AUTO!!!!!!!! ROCK AUTO ROCK AUTO ROCK AUTO!!! Parts? ROCK AUTO! EASY TO USE WEBSITE!!! Need a fuel pump for your shit box civic?? RRROOOCCCKKK AAAUUUTTTOOOOOOOO
Dude, I’m really enjoying this show. Junk mail was awesome and I can’t wait to see this build finished. Also having Rock Auto on as a sponsor is very cool, my fridge is full of their magnets.
I just got my own civic, and have wanted to make it into a rally car as long as I've owned it. I cant wait to see where this series goes!
How cool!!!!! Thanks so much for these Honda videos!!!!! Please go K series!!!! Try to get Brian of Hasport onboard to follow this build with a wilder one (maybe K20C type R or J series V6 into an 5th gen Civic or DC2 Integra!!!!). Can't wait for the upcoming episodes!!!
Oddly enough. This channel inspired me to carburate my civic. I made a custom manifold and had it running off of a Weber DCOE.
I still want to see the honda episodes of horsepower from the early 2000's. They were comically bad. I have a 94 with a built d16z6 and it always surprises people.
😂 push mower sounds like someone farting through a kazoo 😂
Dope to see a tuner!
I think this is the second Honda Civic hatchback that has ever been done on Power Nation.
Of course, this is harking back to the Horsepower TV days with a young Mike Galley joining then hosts Chuck and Joe to turn a normal Civic into a tuner civic, with engine and suspension upgrades, and a of course, Nitrous.
I still can't find those episodes. :(
@@onebladeprop heres one of the later ones

POWERNATION on a Honda? Holy mother cow!
This whole thing ain't nothing but a Rock Auto commercial.
So glad it’s a hatch
I remember years ago, the Horsepower TV guys built up a Civic coupe into a so called "tuner" car on their show. I can't even find the episodes of that build anymore.
200K on the motor and it still made 93 hp at the wheels. Even Pat was impressed.
Right. I'd love to see what my 445,000 mile Escort makes, but I've never revved (or wanted to rev) anywhere near what one would on a dyno.
especially when they rate it 106hp at the crank when new!!!
Just wait till Pat finds out the K series can handle a good bit of boost like the LS up to 600HP stock bottom end.
Cool to see you guys do a Honda. You also picked the best model in my opinion. Ek hatchback
I bought one of these about 3 days ago, also painted flat black... It's a sign!
Rice burner on Power Nation🤔🤔🤔 cool
That little car is so much better than any muscle car!
Awesome! Can't wait for part 2. Subscribed!
Rods, injectors, skunk2 intake manifold, sheepey t3 exhaust manifold with gt3076r gen 2 plus some cams and hondata ECU and thats a recipe for a fast little honda.
Give me more. I really enjoy this. It's like the good old days.
I had a 97 DX hatchback 5 speed 1.6 L. Full stock it was crazy reliable
I am so happy to see a Honda on this channel. This is going to be awesome.
Glad to see something other than American on PN!
"Jeez," I like how he reacts like he was told another bad joke. When you paint it, call it E. Honda.
I see what you did there. Well played, sir.
All Plat forms of honda with manuals are a blast to drive
I love these guys style, they just drive up, get out, and start wrenching on the car 😂
Honestly First thing I would of checked was the relay/fuse for the fuel pump. Also see if it fires with starting fluid. Most simple way to check for spark and fuel issues.
I had a 2 door 84 Civic Hatchback 5 speed when I was in my 20's. I made a lot of questionable modifications to it, but it was still a great car. I really want another one
Glad they could fit working on a car in this 25 min commercial for Rock Auto.
Nice that you are doing a Honda Civic! I love muscle cars but this is today and there aren’t any Novas currently produced for a young kid to wrench on. Hot rodding is about taking what’s readily available and hopping it up and Civics are everywhere.
Could be blasphemous to say this but the Honda Civics are like this generation’s Road Runner or Nova. Base cars that are plentiful and you can wrench on them and show some improvement.
If you put aside the, “V8 or nothing” attitude, you’ll see how engineering and not cubic inches has taken over. That’s a 1.6 L engine making 93hp. Imagine if that was a 5.0L engine it would be making close to 300hp on the dyno. That engine doesn’t even have V-TEC. It’s a base 1.6L engine.
Having working on old American cars and then Hondas as a mechanic (no longer a mechanic now) I can appreciate the quality and ease of working on a Honda. Parts fit great and are well engineered. A new Accord can out handle and accelerate better than old muscle cars back then, barring big blocks and specialty cars, but on average performance is better.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love my V8 cars. I love my ‘72 Challenger and love my ‘19 Civic Type R. Both are special in their own right and should be treated with respect.
Only during the pandemic would I see a civic on this show. Cheers!
History has been made. Never did I think I’d see a Honda on power nation!
Did I hear right or it has 280k miles?
Yeah, it's a four banger, but one that deserves a lot of respect.
Honda knows a thing or two about making engines reliable and fun
If you guys are building a rally car you should covert it to awd using the CR-V drive train. Transmission abs rear differential or just K swap it
Seems cool, but for the novice rally driver fwd and a d16 should do just right. Enough power to move the car and plenty of them engines around to mess with without compromises
@@JoseSantos-ys3rjjust for kicks and giggles and to see what can be done without spending a shyt tone of money and keeping it simple. On the bright side I’ve seen D16 make a reliable 400-500 hp with a decent build and a GT45 turbo 😂
@@jayare4472 I really wanted to build a turbo d16, but damn I don't have money to have two cars and having just one always broken isn't cool. Tuning is hard, that's for sure.
@@JoseSantos-ys3rj I know the feeling and turbo D16 are awesome because it’s a really small engine and people have been making big power with them
This is awesome!! Im excited for the next episode and tp see this thing rip on the rally course!!
K20/k24 awd. I love this channel and mainly own Honda’s. Y’all always put a nice big money motors into muscle car. Y’all should do this car right
This is going to be fun to watch
So cool to see import stuff on power nation. Build one of those motors and boost it. You’ll blow peoples minds. Honda engines flow very well, especially my the b series and k series engines. I’ve owned Honda’s my entire life and you can’t kill them.
Man i like that you guys are bringing something else to power nation. I mean you could just k swap it slap a turbo on it and call it a day
Nothing but NGK should be going in that motor.
Honda love!!
A turbo is going to be an excellent addition do that little D16, but I'm a little disappointed you didn't go with a supercharger. There were some pretty good blower kits for these engines back in the day and it would've been a more unique direction for the project.
These engines are fuel saving motors. They need to got b or k series. I’ve owned supercharged d16s, turbo b18 series and k20 cars. They need to do this car right
“Ain’t got no gas!” Karl Childers
Went to rock auto and even found parts for my '66 Datsun roadster. I was very impressed.
Never would've thought. Great work Fellas
Honda's don't get older, they just hit the gym at mid life
"That is one giant plastic" I was dieing in laughter

You can never go wrong with a 90s honda
Since everything is out you could probably get a discount from a detail guy to clean all those interior parts and sell them local on FleaBay or Craigslist
Those are my FAVORITE civics 😍
Nice to see a little car build. Thx.

I've literally been waiting my entire life for this
It's cool when usdm stans respect Hondas.
