- Sports compacts are in, so of course we had to do one! We're building up a Honda (Acura to be specific) into a hot rod including headers, high-performance exhaust, and a new set of power pulleys. Plus, we add an ignition upgrade and nitrous kit. Then we take it to the chassis dyno to see how much power it puts out.

Ahhhh yes, the good ol 90s, era tuners, where if you had a honda (non s2k) hitting around 230 hp in a FWD, you were considered a street god back then lol

Yea a 14 second car was pretty fast on the street back then. I never thought I'd see the day cars would make 600+ from factory!

The early days of modifying Hondas, when 200hp in a import was considered a lot of power. Crazy how far modifications have come for import cars today, watching this it's humorous how little power this car made but it's here for nostalgia and maybe some documentation purposes, I think it's pretty neat.
Bmw's making 500whp with a metal pipe and email tune 😂

@yeahitskimmel just saw this a year later. No, I paid next to nothing for it as the young man's father just wanted it gone because he had recently bought his son a new Lexus. It will stay pure stock. It just needs a little more refreshing, and I'll probably sell it while the prices are high.
Still have my 90 hatch ,with f20b swap ,a lot easier when u have adult money ,in my 20s it took me years to buy what I have on the car ,now if I want it I just buy it 😊

I love this , damn those cars were so nice back then. No rust. Brand new , I have a civic with a b series motor from this integra in the show and man. What a great platform. I can truly say Honda is king of 4 cylinder motors in reliability , endurance. Power. Performance after upgrading and even tuning , i used to own a b series running 7 psi , great set up , lasted 10+ years
I remember when these aired on cable tv they wer trying to be hip with the kids at the time (me).. boy i feel old now😂

Dang I was thinking of something else. I had read somewhere that they add your turbo into your displacement In certain racing brackets. I think they count it as 1L or something.
We installed coils and plugs, now this baby makes so much power we have to make some suspension changes to hold all that power... Still makes under 150 GTFOH guys

Not really. Non-vtec B-18s were rated at around 130 HP.

So yes really, It's impressive the gains for minimal outlay and no tune.
The moment you quoted factory rating just killed whatever point you made.
Cars lose power through the clutch, flywheel, trans and axles. If anything, their driveline design is incredibly efficient or Honda slightly underrated that engine combo.
( I'll be rounding the gains)
The car rolled the dyno stock near 110 hp. Do the math and realize that 110 would be about 84-86% of the rated horsepower .
Adding 20 hp to a 110 hp car is literally adding almost 20% at the wheels. If you add driveline loss, you looking near 25% gain. That's all bolt ons, and no tune.
That's impressive for NA car using 25+ year old technology in an era where getting an actual custom tune was hard to come by.
My thoughts exactly. With an ecu tune,bigger injectors. It def would get some better gains that was the tech we had back then, Honda heads didnt have many costly tuning options in the US back then. I miss those days But I'm happy tech has changed.

I use to tinker with Integras, I threw a ebay turbo on it with a basic street tune and from a 30-40roll they can be fun but from a stop when you try to launch it they just spin tires going through 1st 2nd 3rd gear before it catches traction (spinning isn't winning) I perfer my American Muscle cars now but I been through my import phase..

I never got into them, always a v8 guy from birth, loved my pop's 84 Bronco with it's 351W n all them v8 muscle cars.. Respect to all car guys tho, whatever they like to play with.. i do like some imports tho..

I always remember thinking it was so different when Chuck and Joe did episodes working on imports.... I now kinda wish when doing that they had been able to sneak in one that was an MK4 Supra or an R34 or an RX7, or even an NSX. Those couldn't happen but it's a shame as those are such cool Asian import cars to build.

Where does the weight go when you floor the pedal? A fwd car will always be at a disadvantage. When run against a rwd car of equal weight and power the fwd will always lose. The Hondas NEED that 600 hp just to keep up with 350hp rwd cars.

Fwd cars typically need about half or less the power of a RWD car to make the same quarter mile time. Thanks for telling me you know absolutely nothing about FWD cars. Where does the weight go ? To the back, where if your suspension is setup correctly it doesn't matter. FWD cars can grip too. Dumb ass...
Damn yas definitely should have got a Gsr or at least swapped it with the Gsr's B18C1. The Ls is such a slouch even with the spray lol. Prob would of got the same amount of power with the stock B18C1 lol.

The factory original twin turbo set like he said was tuned out. There is a reason people swap out the twin setup to make easy 600

Watching them waste money on an ignition box and coil is pretty nostalgic, ngl. Only 120 wheel before the giggle juice huh? No wonder I shit all over non-vtech Integras in my Neon R/T. No timeslips for them, but I think I still have a few mid 15 second ones around from long ago, which is better than that Integra could muster off the bottle.

These cars are classics but I would take a hard pass on buying one.
Spent about $20,000 on 160BHP😂 hitting 0to60 in 7.8 seconds 🙄 I’m sure you can get a mk5 golf GTI Was released back then Standard 197 hp 60mph in 7.5 seconds and with a stage one remap price starting at $700 will hit u 250+ BHP hitting 60mph in 6 seconds and extremely good handling car
This was 1999 man, and this is the base model integra. A GSR or Type-R with these same mods, without nitrous would gap the gti even with a tune. Only recently have VWs been any kind of decent after a tune. Back in the day it took significant stuff to make a GTI even touch 14's. 13's was different turbo and fuel upgrades territory.
But, to play the game, around this time you could just buy an AWD DSM, spend $0 in free mods, spend $50 on a boost controller, and $100 on a Walbro 255 and run mid 12's all day long. 0-60 in the very low 4's.
Thousands of dollars for simple bolt ons ?????? No thanks.

Also some of these guys are forgetting the big 3 once had their tuner cars as well like Neon SRT-4, Focus/Contour SVT, and Cavalier Z24 just to name the old school ones.
Until Ford stopped selling cars on favor of awful SUVs you still had the Focus RS and Fiesta ST which were pretty quick.
