    I'm so excited to see Dr Karri on BirdTricks! 🎉 She's such an awesome vet and human being, and she adores her feathered family members. When I'd see her with her birds on Vet Ranch, I would think how much the Bird Tricks approach to training, diet, and the psychology of bird to human interactions might help with some of the challenges she faced with her flock. I'm so looking forward to whatever content includes two of my favorite channels - maybe Bird Tricks visits Vet Ranch at some point too. ❤

    I have been a Vet Ranch viewer for years and so excited to see Dr Karrie at one of your master classes. My three favourite YT personalities together, at last. 🥰

    Another great tip, I started with a bit of a dog training background, and one thing I've always done is a lot of vocal praise. Funny enough with dogs I always understood that it depended on the situation, for example if your trying to pass another dog, a lot of praise can quickly add to the excitement of seeing a play mate, which is not ideal. A lot of trainers would say you should be more exciting than the other dog, but from personal experience I don't ever want to put any association with excitement anywhere near a dog my dog doesn't know. I've seen the bad end of that stick... Excitement can be a quick path to frustration, which can quickly lead to acting out.

    Cute little guy. He was making the same noises during training that my Hahn's makes. I try to bring things down or take a break when he gets this excited about it. He also does the same, "we are in training mode," behavior. He's like a little obedient soldier.

    Ahh poor Dave haha! But I'm glad that people are willing to put their prior knowledge aside to be able to learn more and be able to understand more than they did before. I believe everyone should do that when it comes to bird training, because you'll always be learning more things.

    Aloha! Mahalo Nui Loa for all you do... I'm a new fan because I recently rescued a wild toddler lovebird from a cat in my neighbors yard. Long story short: he was nursed back to health (shout out Maui Bird Rescue!!) and I have adopted him! he is adorable and I've done SOOO much research! Ya'll are one of my FAVE's! just wanted to say that LOVE birds, in particular, my rosy-faced baby, originate from the Sub Saharan in Africa (huh?) yeah, so... millet! there are 9 different kinds! and the PEARL millet is actually HIGH in nutrition ETC! very healthy for them and probably why they act "wild" for millet! HOWEVER - yes, the millet from pet stores, Walmart etc are highly processed and barely even have the original nutrition that this amazing wild seed grass has! I am searching for buying the original pearl millet from that area in Africa- in meantime, I found this awesome lady who uses PEARL millet in recipes--- anyhow, it's a conundrum and, like my baby bird, Ipo Kegumbo, loves to do, its something to figure out! --- Millet is NOT the enemy however! LOL! -- ua-cam.com/video/0A2KLsIt8nQ/v-deo.html

    in dogtraining verbalisation can also excite dogs too much. I trained one highly excitable dog with handgestures only, that really quieted her down and she was also forced to pay more attention. praising verbally can also be a reward to some dogs, and can also mess up your communication. just like in birdtraining. I recognise so much in your way of training with my dogtraining experience, and experience with dogs in general. give them room to say "no" , don force them to do your bidding all the time etc

    Dogs don't like an excess of verbal praise either. I had experiences with two different cattle dogs (verbal really seems to piss off these very smart working dogs). One who was an angel on the leash would misbehave as soon as you praised her. The other would get so pissed off if I told her to stay at the curb (when we were off-leash) would get in front of me and bark at me all across the street quite dangerously. While she wouldn't do this while on leash, I learned to just be silent off leash and we would eyeball each other and she would just wait and follow me across the street when I went. Silent worked better. Also, when leash training dogs I find it is hard for ME to focus and stay calm when I am talking too much and many dogs just find it frustrating, especially the smart ones.

      Yes, Excluding the long tail, they are about as big as an "average" man's hand. They still have all the personality and traits of their big macaw cousins. BIG personality in a small package. I also have one and he is a rescue and he is my feather baby. A lot of work though for such a "small" bird.

    My hahn's constantly screams, and biting is new

    • @Anne-oi6gi
      @Anne-oi6gi Рік тому

      That is out of the norm for them, Hahn's macaws are not typically / characteristically screamers. My Hahn's macaw bites BUT he is a rescue. He went through some trauma before I got him. And then male macaws are typically more nippy (prone to bite) because they are male and hormonal. I have him now for almost 2 years and the biting is so much less now then when I first got him but it took a sh#t load of work.

    • @hulda2002
      @hulda2002 Рік тому

      @@Anne-oi6gi no it's not normal, i've had him 12 years since he was 8 months. Trying to bite me is new however. For years he's had this inner shaking too.

    i think it might be common to Hahns. Mine hates kids wich looks below 15. She is chill with everyone else but can atck poor liitle ones by flying to thmem and bite hard on ears. I cant trust her wich stresses me out a bit

    • @Anne-oi6gi
      @Anne-oi6gi Рік тому

      Ag shame! Did she have bad experiences with young kids in the past? Because that will surely cause such behavior. My Hahn's macaw is fine with children as long as they don't try to touch him but he hates dark haired women. He is a rescue and from his behavior when I first got him, I believe he was either badly handled or treated or teased by a dark haired woman.
