    I will admit that even as a long-time bird owner I wasn't giving my sweet Cockatiel the best life possible. When I learned there was so much more I went out and bought Zupreem natural pellets to convert her over from an all seed diet. It took her a week. Then I bought the BT pellets and it took her 3 days to eat them over Zupreem. Haven't looked back since because training with treats makes life so much easier for us both!

    When I got my 25 yr old Grey 2 years ago he had only ever had black sunflower seeds as a diet. He is now switch to BT Feeding System in the morning and TOPS pellets at night (we did try BT pelleta but he was not a fan). He had never been to the vet until I got him and she is beyond pleased with his over all health and progress from the switch.

    I just wanted to tell you thank you for everything you guys do to make lives better for all parrots and birds.
    You're truly a blessing. I've ordered some of your products, such as bird training and tricks, after I first got my beautiful son Taco about 10 years ago, a little Green Cheek Conure and enjoyed every video as we learned together watching them. I recently lost my beloved Taco, he's in the thumbnail account photo, on Sept 2nd 2022 just 3 weeks ago (It's now September 25th 2022, my birthday) and it seems like it literally just happened moments ago. He was going to be 12 years old on December 15th. He died cuddled next to my neck where he loved to sleep when I was laying down watching videos. I did everything I could to save him, $800+ dollars in medical bills alone, that I'm still having to make payments on but I'd have given any amount to save him, I didn't care how much it cost.
    He is literally a piece of my soul. Some would probably say that we had an "unhealthy relationship" because he basically lived on my shoulder. The only time he was in his cage was either when I wasn't home which is rarely (and even still I have security cameras inside to keep and eye on him) or if I was sleeping. He got cold bottled water every morning and was completely and utterly spoiled. I have never felt a love like I had with my little fella, not even for another human. He took a piece of my soul with him when he passed, here it is three weeks later and I still cry every single day, I cry myself to sleep and I cry when I wake up and walk into the living room to a now empty cage. I made him popsicle stick houses, climbing toys out of bamboo skewers... he even knew to fly to his cage to poop. He loved when my mom visited and he had a special call he reserved only for her. It completely devastated my mother when my baby flew home to heaven.
    My boyfriend said he's never seen any animal with as much personality or one who loved his human as much as Taco loved me, he wants me to get grief counseling and he also wants me to get another companion parrot, not another Green Cheek but maybe a Caique, for one reason, he lives in Massachusetts and I live in N.C., alone. My Taco was my life, I'm in tears now just typing this. I'd like another friend but not a baby or young parrot because I turned 48 today and I don't want to outlive my friend and have him go through the trauma of having a new companion when it's my time to go. I think I'm typing most of this just as a release to let out some of the pain so I'm sorry if I upset anyone who reads this but I also guess what I'm trying to say is that you don't own your pet, they own you... if you really truly love them. My sweet love of my life brought me more happiness than any amount of money or material possession ever could. I wouldn't trade the time we had together for anything. You truly are rich beyond your wildest dreams if you have the love we shared together. The only thing that comes close to describing our relationship was the movie Golden Compass where your animal is quite literally part of your spirit and soul. I have high functioning autism, so expressing emotions "properly" is a great struggle for me.
    Thank you Jamieleigh and your Husband for being hero's to all parrot owners who, through learning from you guys, can all give our loved companion's a better life.

      I lost my conure, Buddy, 2 weeks ago on January 8th. He was 10. It’s painful, I’ve been crying every day. He was my little guy, he was my happiness. I bought another conure hoping it would ease the pain, but the grief is too much.

    It’s really refreshing to see you mention reading the ingredients because for some reason in the dog food communities they are very against reading the ingredients or avoiding any ingredients the dog isn’t allergic too for some very odd reason. And just want the foods to be trusted basically because the makers know more than a regular person could in their opinions. And it’s very disheartening. What the makers also know is how to make a profit why should we blindly trust?

    • @gracecamaxtli7090
      @gracecamaxtli7090 2 роки тому +1

      I agree lots of dog owners are buying McDonald's-equivalent pellets (Purina, Iams). But I've actually noticed a bigger trend in that community towards all natural, organic, whole food diets. Especially raw meat, which is what their bodies were designed to eat, like wolves. That's been trending for a few years. However in the parrot community I was shocked to see so many owners and vets encouraging a mainly-pellet diet (no animal's diet should be primarily processed food). And not only is the quantity a problem, but to make matters worse, the quality is also low. Most pellets are just junk food - corn, sugar. It's like giving birds wonder bread with jam.

      Harrisons used to be a great pellet with millet and spirulina. They changed their formulas a while back and now their maintenance formula is corn and soy based like the rest, albeit Harrisons uses organic soy and corn (given the new normal that non-organic soy and corn produced in the USA is all GMO and so contains foreign lectins and also is specifically grown with drenching with Roundup, there is a huge danger of feeding non-organic). Long term, I fear that the corn/soy diet is detrimental to parrots even if organic. My parrots hated the taste of the new formula and refuse to eat Harrisons maintenance formula. They do eat the high intensity formula which now is kind of like the original, maintenance formula (but with corn and soy thrown in for profit margin). I now buy the high intensity formula but only now use it as a supplement to fresh veggie chop and a dehydrated veggie/flower mix I blend myself with some nuts and seeds. I also offer Tops/Birdtricks pellets but my parrots prefer the Harrisons. Summary is that the most vibrant pet parrots are on a fresh veggie based diet supplemented with pellets, nuts and seeds which is the opposite of what the avian veterinarians preach which is a 70 to 100% pellet diet with a bit of greens and seeds.

      I'm talking out of my ass right now, but maybe that's too oily for parrots? I can't imagine that much of their diet in the wild has much oil (can't eat avocadoes) although nuts are fatty... Maybe their bodies aren't equipped to process and digest a lot of fat? Not criticising though because what you're feeding is better than most bird owners traditionally give them

    All of which are certified organic.

    Years ago I tried to order your pellets to give my flock, and at that time they wouldn't ship to Canada. I see now they are available to my country, but I'm not willing to pay $42.00 for a bag of pellets and an additional $40.67 just for shipping. This of course is before any taxes and duty. So I'd be looking at approximately $100 for one bag of pellets! It sure would be nice if feeding our pets a healthy diet was feasible. I guess it's just like humans - junk food is much cheaper and abundant/everywhere.

    I actually think the sweet/ colored ones can be used to introduce birds to existing pellets and make the switch easier, once they are on the pellets you can cut back on the colored ones / or ones with sugar just redducd and replace it with good quality pellets no sugar or colors

    I live in Australia and I find it so so difficult to get access to healthy pellets for my parrot. I used to get Tops for awhile, but now I can't find it absolutely anywhere. Boarder controls are so strict here that they won't let any of it in. You also can't get Harrison's here or any of the other big name healthy brands. Currently I am feeding her Hagen Tropican, which I like because it doesn't contain sugar or pumped with food colouring but it's still not the best. The first ingredient is corn 😓
    Some of the most popular brands here is Vetafarm and forage. Vetafarm is filled with sugar and fake flavours and colouring and forage is just seeds. If there's any Aussies in the comment section and you have an advice for where I can find another option please let me know ☺️

    I have been trying for almost two years now to get my parrots on Tops. They both came to me as rescues addicted to Zupreem. What stinks is they get so moody on good food until I cave and give them their Zupreem. And birds will literally starve themselves, so I’m really just riding the struggle bus haha

    • @AllisonTaitano
      @AllisonTaitano 2 роки тому +1

      OMG same! I have a greenwing macaw who is OBSESSED with Zupreem Natural. We're only about 3 weeks into trying to convert her to Tops. She doesn't like them at all. She will either pick around them or grab them and drop them on the floor. She doesnt even attempt to bite into one. Its like shes addicted to the Zupreem (literally). However, i did a 50/50 of Tops and Zupreem and ground them in a coffee grinder, mixed that with some water until it was a dry paste consistency and she ate it no problem. So im hoping over time i can gradually reduce the amount of Zupreem and slowly add chunks of the whole Tops pellets in there. I also sprinkle some Tops powder over her daily chop and sprouts.

      If I had to guess I think tops is exactly the same as birdtricks pellets because the labels are identical. My budgie has been a year trying to convert him and I was told to get the birdie bread mix because it's mostly those pellets and that has helped a lot. He loves the bread and because of that he does pick up the pellets but I have to mash some of them up. If it's just straight pellets he won't even bother but if I crush some of them he will pick at it and eat some... but crushing some and pouring it over the seasonal breakfast and also using the birdie bread will help them to where they start liking the pellets a bit
