Hahn's macaw can be loud but when it starts talking, it talks more than it screams. The trick to teach them things is to repeat all the time and give them treats once it does it. Teach it one thing at a time. We always interact with our bird. We spend minimum of 3 hours a day. We talk to it just like talking to a human. It's one of our baby. We have two birds btw. I highly recommend getting one

The "pretty wings" trick started with me just lifting her wings and at the time I say "pretty wings". I did it repeatedly and after about a week She just started doing it after a while.

Spend a lot of time playing and talking to it. make sure you get it used to eating fruits and veggies at very young age. Limit feeding it seeds.

Daniel La Breche she is very affectionate. I think that they will be a good pair. We also have a conure and they get along most of the time. They pretty much eat the same things. They mimic each other too.

Daniel La Breche I have a Hahns and a Quaker. After a year of being neighbors they bonded and have been very in love for three years now. It's a good match!

Hey there! I have a hahns and ive got it trained to do “im an eagle” which is basically your pretty wings except he doesnt extend his wings fully. (Lifts in bent wing position tho and his cue is now a peace sign!)
But i really want him to fully extend like your lil one. Any tips?

I used to hold both her wings and extend them out fully. The she just did them that way after awhile. Sound very excited and appreciative when they do. They seem to like that kind of acknowledgement.

@@bella061309 thanks. Yep these are social little guys and love praise. We got him doing several tricks based on just praise. This one he does like 10% fully extended and the rest some level of extended. I dont think he will let me hold his wings up. We will just have to work on it.

Jonathan Breckenridge Congratulations. Well, she is very social and does love a lot of attention. If you have never owned a bird before, do a little bit of reading on line. That's how we learned how to take care of them. Feed them veggies and fruits. Avoid giving them avocado, chocolate, dairies, apple/peach seeds.
Talk to them a lot. I even sing to our Hahns a lot and she has picked up some of the songs.

I know this is an older post, but Read, read, read! There are tons of resources online, lots of great videos. Visit some breeder sites as they have advice there too. I’ve been researching parrot species for a few years now and think the Hahns is right for me.
