    It’s so frustrating to deal with people who simply don’t know what they don’t know. I would never tell a human what to medically even through technically as a vet trained in primates I have more qualifications to do so, than a human nutritionist telling me what to do with species she has no formal training in. Shaking my head…

      The majority of the food you and Glen review get a "thumbs down." You tell people to look for better food and many of us have decided that fresh, homemade, is better than most commercial pet food. For me it is an ongoing process. I was feeding commercial wet and dry food until Panda got sick. Things like grain or grain free, poor ingredients, nutrients, never occurred to me. The corporate owned pet food companies have brought this on themselves.

    Another note to add here. What’s better for human babies? Natural breast milk, or scientifically formulated baby formula? Rachel definitely goes to extreme. But natural nutrients, are typically better then engineered nutrients.

      Formula could never match Brest milk. Agreed. And if you have the passion to research and home cook or feed raw because you believe those natural ingredients are better, go for it! But if you want to use nutrition to manage most diseases, you are now depending on nutrition science! Hay! You can pay $40 a lb fir a therapeutic diet with si called real ingredients! It’s not as tested and proven as Hills but I’m assuming it’s formulated correctly. I’m not out here selling anything. No one is paying me! Lol!

      @@PetFoodPuzzleGuy Same exact principle. Kibble can never touch, fresh, natural food. Even more scientific research, goes into baby formula, then dog food. With all the scientific research, that goes into baby formulas. And they still can’t formulate something better. So how do you expect kibble formulas, to be as great as you say, when they have even less scientific knowledge on dogs, then human babies?

      @@ZaryaTheLaika Your not telling me anything I don’t already know. But I fail to see your point. Just because most people feed their dog, cheap basic pourage, however you spell it. Doesn’t make kibble any better. I really don’t understand what your trying to prove. But I’m all ears, if you have any information I’m missing. My point is, properly sourced, and properly thought together recipes, of natural food, is better then kibble. Period. Fancy Feast made one cat sick. Several brands made the other sick. I took them to a vet who never asked what I was feeding them. Never talked about diet at all. In other videos, Rachel says she worked five years. To be fair, she does say up front, "“I’m not telling you to stop feeding your prescription dog food, especially if your vet recommends it. I’m just here to share what works best for my dogs.” Later she says, "I am not anti all prescription pet foods. But pet owners need to be informed on what is in the food." Rachel does use Medicus as a good alternative. Compared to k/d, Medicus is lower in calcium, about the same phosphorus, .38 v .33, both well under AAFCO max. The only nutrient where Medicus falls short (is high) is sodium. Bringing up the lawsuit was unnecessary. The biggest issue is dry food. Dry food became popular during WW2 because it was the only way to sell pet food. The only reason to use dry food instead of canned is owner convenience. If Hill's would push their wet food, a lot of the criticism would go away. I am impressed with your restraint.

    You are both to extreme, on different sides. Rachel likes to pretend natural is ALWAYS best. And act like the wild, has the absolute best food selection. When in reality, dogs in the wild are sometimes lucky to eat at all. Let alone, what is absolute best. However, your idea that ingredients don't matter, is equally as ridiculous. The better the ingredient panel, the better the nutrient panel. The more chemically added nutrients, the lower the bioavailability. Natural nutrients, will always be absorbed better. With that being said. I will never understand why most people feel as if they need to pick a side. There are benefits to reap from nature/holistic's, and science.

    • @PetFoodPuzzleGuy
      @PetFoodPuzzleGuy  6 місяців тому +4

      I can agree with lots of what you said, but a better ingredient panel does not mean better nutrients. I have proven that in more than a few videos, especially if we are attempting to manage a disease. And when you add the fact that the minimum standards for most ingredients enables any ingredient to be excellent nutrients or horrible excesses, it leaves us really not knowing anything as far as quality. The best ingredient panel is one that has all the nutrients at optimal levels. That can include corn, corn gluten meal. Soybean protein, cellulose, etc…. All ingredients totally misunderstood by the all natural, raw, anti kibble group, influenced by folks like Rachel and the folks she listens to. For clarity, ingredients DO matter, but only with their bioavailability and the nutrients they deliver.

      @@PetFoodPuzzleGuy Yes, but a variety of meats, is better for a dog. Then just chicken, mixed with other protein sources. Soy and corn gluten, are not going to provide the same amino acids, as mixing poultry and red meat. Nothing is a better protein/amino acid source for dogs, then meat. And brands like Hills, use corn gluten AS a protein source. It should be used to ENHANCE, the protein source. Hills has “chicken” as first ingredient. Followed by wheat, an already dry product. So after the chicken is dehydrated, there is MORE wheat, then chicken. Then corn gluten as ingredient number 3. So there’s probably about an equal amount of chicken, and corn gluten. When you consider the price of Hills. This is a rip off. You are paying for a bag of mostly wheat, and corn protein. I’m sorry, but this just isn’t right. And it’s very misleading.
