- Daniel Callihan is accused of killing Callie Brunett in Louisiana before abducting her four-year-old and six-year-old daughters and taking them to Mississippi. Authorities tracked down Callihan in Jackson and found a gruesome scene. Court documents now say Callihan allegedly planned to keep the eldest daughter as a “sex slave.” When detectives tracked Callihan down in Jackson, Brunett’s four-year-old was found murdered. Callihan confessed to the crimes, stating “I have no reason for what I did. All I want to say is that I was sober.” Law&Crime’s Sierra Gillespie breaks it down.

If it’s about child s*xual abuse (I googled it & I think that’s what you’re referring to), look up Kennedy v. Louisiana. The Supreme Court stated “…the death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the r-word of a child…” (I disagree, btw). I imagine because this is a ruling by the Supreme Court, it doesn’t matter whether it’s prosecuted in Louisiana or Mississippi

My brother is 12 years older. He touched me inappropriately from the time i was a baby until i was 7 or 8 and finally understood what he was trying to do. He actually apologized just like this man. He tried to take his life, ended up on drugs and still says he deserves to die. This is one of the reasons emotional intelligence needs to be taught in schools. People need to think about their feelings very deeply and learn how to navigate their thoughts and deal with them. People like this need to know that something is wrong with them while they are still young and before they hurt people.

You do understand that people are innocent until proven guilty, right? And that prisoners still have human rights, especially since many are truly innocent (we know this because of stats on overturned convictions) and have no business being there. Emotions cannot rule the justice system, precedence, debate and transparency should rule there.

You would be surprised at how much we get pressured to “find a father” for our children if their dad isn’t involved for one reason or another. After my daughters’ father passed away in a work accident, members of my family were harping on me about it because they thought the girls were upset and needed a father figure. Obviously that was wrong; I knew they were grieving and they wanted THEIR dad, not a replacement. But this is the mindset of so many other mothers and those who press them on it. They believe finding a man IS in the best interest of their children. I wholeheartedly agree and believe that we need to be diligent and protective, but ultimately, we’re still damned if we do and damned if we don’t. And the world sucks either way.

You've got no experience or knowledge of family courts. Single fathers are often kept from access or being in the lives of their children. The courts are incredibly biased towards mothers. Don't believe me? Sit in on family court hearings in the gallery at your local courthouse for a day. You'll be shocked and astonished.

It’s nothing new. People (mostly men) have always been this way sadly. Not all men of course, but far too many.
This sounds like that old case in idaho when they killed the family and took the boy and girl (she survived and is now an adult, sadly the brother didnt)
OMG I remember that case! I had forgotten what state it was in though. Some cases are so horrible the perpetrators must be demons.

My daughter is also six. I just can't stand this. This poor little girl. I hope she has family who will love, protect her and see her through this. I would take this little girl into my home in a second. Poor baby.

It's heartbreaking, but I'm fully aware that evil exists ever since I was a baby. I can't imagine what that family is going through and how hard it will be for the 6 yr. old to work through the trauma but thankfully she was rescued. My birth mom used me in child pron to get money for drugs when I was two and a half(I'm 36 now). I was beaten because I wouldn't perform. I ended up being adopted by a wonderful family and was going to be a motivational speaker to help people get through trauma.

They keep bringing that up as if she was with him at the moment of this event which then gets a bunch of judgemental ppl commenting on the mom. The woman arrested was the one he was with inaa relationship with & are both meth addicts so there you go.

It's so common for people to read a headline and then start monologuing about what they think about the situation, despite knowing so little about it. Especially for anything court/criminal related, so much information will be available but people will see the headline and make their judgment.
