After seeing the Tennessee game I would hope people finally respect that it harder to get good stats when you play in snow and cold. If it was warmer he would have way more numbers ..
Agree wholeheartedly with this. Dude was the backup in his very first start, still had 100 yards, then took the job and had 100+ rushing yards in his first 9 games as a collegiate player lmaoo he was STUPID
lol it’s no way yall still talking about ryan Williams which is very good but JJ Smith is something we truly have seen before. 6-3 215 runs a 4.3 & is a freak athlete. The way he can track the ball & route running is second to none. He is truly one of one & yes he’s better than MHJ.
If Ryan Williams played for Arizona or North Carolina this wouldn't be a conversation. For the record I'm in no way saying Williams isn't great. I'm just saying his perception is buoyed by his helmet.
This dont suprise me. I know an NFL scout who told me this kid would have gone top 15 in last years draft. Straight out of high school. He was right. He the 1% of the top 1%
Clarett no question….he’s ignored because of his legal issues but his frosh performance was unparalleled and his redemption story is the cherry on top!❤
Whats crazy to me is ESPN likes to blame the weather as why Tennessee was so bad but when it comes to bringing up stats they say the weather doesn't matter. Now you see why the warmer climate players have better stats because its way harder to have amazing numbers when its freezing below 30 but when it comes to awards and stuff they dont give the players from the north or east any credit or use the weather as a reason only when it happens to the sec.
All of us in Buckeye nation heard the hype all camp. We wanted to wait until B1G plays to see if he's legit. Before he committed Ohio State fans were attending his games in HS and all of them said he was like a young LeBron type of phenomenon. He's legit for sure.
Would be the only way to make this conversation worth it. Because there have been legendary redshirt freshman campaigns in college football. But TRUE freshman? Yeah those are much more rare
The best thing he is still learning . routes blocking and what a defense is doing to stop him . four years from now he may be the of the best receiver ever
There is not a single thing at the WR position that Ryan Williams does better than Jeremiah Smith. SEC fans continue to live in a constant state of delusion.
U can't compare anyone to him. He's playing among greats and NFL talent, he doesn't even play full games unless it's a big game. And when he plays he's always putting impact!! Where in a time in college football where games are not as long. Not as many plays on both sides of the ball. All the all time best freshman played more downs min snaps ect. He's 18 carring grown men, remind you of someone?? The GOAT LEEBRON JAMES JJ SMIT4 will be the goat of all WR
Ohio State will win if: 1. Chip Kelly does not have a TTUN moment 2. Chip Kelly develops the field goal kicker to elite status. 1/2 of Ryan Days losses would be wins with an elite field goal kicker 3. Chip Kelly continue to develop and recruit offensive linemen
Uhhhh.... Michael Crabtree redshirted his freshman year in '06 at Texas Tech... so while Jeremiah is on the national stage dominating, Crabtree wasn't even good enough to be on the field. Not sure why he thought to compare that
I think it would be fair to say he's the best true freshman WR ever, but not the best freshman ever. Herschel Walker, Ron Dayne and Adrian Peterson all clear fairly easy IMO.
Reggie bush Adrien Peterson jadeveon clowney Herschel walker Mike Williams Crabtree Julio Jones Ezekiel Elliot it's a long list this Jeremiah Smith is already a problem
I fully acknowledge that JSmith has had a freshmen season for the ages, but I don’t even think it was that much better than Ryan Williams, Collin Simmons or Dylan Stewart. They were all terrors on the field this year, and if we’re being fair, Jeremiah Smith enjoyed single coverage frequently because of Egkuba, Tate and Iniss, not to mention Henderson and Judkins. G.O.A.T. talk is getting to be too inclusive, was JSmith incredible? Absolutely. I would have had him in the Belitnikof final group, with Ryan Williams. But greatest of all time? Nah…
Also completely different offenses. OSU didn’t throw to him 20 times per game. Not sure why😂😂 Ryan is awesome too but give me JJ. Monster of a man and he’s just getting started.
@@AlaskaDuckDynasty 100% agree it wasnt that much better than Ryan Williams. I think some people are caught up in him as a prospect. I think he is a much better prospect than all those receivers . Production wise he left a lot on the table because he wanted to catch the ball with one hand which was killing me ( PSU, Northwestern, Indiana).
@@AlaskaDuckDynasty @razorsharp4ever What the hell are you talking about? Always catching the ball one handed? That’s absolutely false and he only does so if needed. That’s just not accurate. I am not saying he’s the GOAT freshman. I don’t think he is personally because he wasn’t targeted enough. But when you see this kid, his size, speed, ethic, there is nobody like him. Period.
@@daves4589 you’re not about to tell me about games that I go to , and see him trying to go up with one hand and catch the ball instead of going up with two . Against Indiana, Northwestern and Penn State he left TD’s on the table, period . And I said he was the best WR prospect, clearly .
The best Freshman I've ever seen play was Adrian Peterson almost 2000 yd his freshman year runner up in the Heisman.
Yea he was the craziest freshman I’ve ever seen too
@@A_RealistAgreed with a shoutout to Hershel Walker and M. Clarett

Ever? idk bout that one, but he's easily the #1 WR in college football right now , and I'm not talking Freshmen.
If his freshman year was with someone like Stroud.. the numbers would be insane.
Yep

Coming back to this after the Rose Bowl is funny man. 4 is the greatest we’ve ever seen.
Maurice Clarett 💯
Hands downs, end of discussion
Clarett, Adrian Peterson, and Jeremiah Smith were all NFL ready players coming out of high school. Glad I got to watch all 3.
This dont suprise me. I know an NFL scout who told me this kid would have gone top 15 in last years draft. Straight out of high school. He was right. He the 1% of the top 1%
If you want to be a high NFl draft, play wide receiver and corner back. Terry with D.C having a monster year
Clarett no question….he’s ignored because of his legal issues but his frosh performance was unparalleled and his redemption story is the cherry on top!❤

Most of the games around the country are played in perfect weather. There are just a few up north at the end of the season

Herschel Walker lead his team to a national championship, so we have to hold off on that.
Was he a true freshman though?

Jj literally has better stats in every category 😂😂. It’s not even close
The best thing he is still learning . routes blocking and what a defense is doing to stop him . four years from now he may be the of the best receiver ever
He’s historically great, but he’s not even the best freshman in OSU history it’s Mo Clarett all day. If they win the natty then we’ll revisit.
Clarett hands down
Don't forget clarett and what that man did and won a championship
JEREMIAH SMITH#4 REMINDS ME OF A MIX OF NFL 🏈 HALL OF FAMERS TERRELL OWENS & LARRY FITZGERALD ..
Julio Jones
@@A_RealistThat’s the comp. Everything from his size, body control and even running gait looks so much Julio.
How about a post Oregon update?
Yes - there I did it for you
Simply the best
Yes
Freshman rb way harder than wr especially 2002 7 in the box and still running wild
Top 5, would have been better if not for Ryan Day or Chip Kelly and the balanced offense approach.
Ryan Williams is the best freshman wide receiver I've ever seen.. and I'm 46 years old on Jan 31st...
46 and blind as a bat smh. I pray you get the healing you need
There is not a single thing at the WR position that Ryan Williams does better than Jeremiah Smith. SEC fans continue to live in a constant state of delusion.
Because you only watch the SEC
Best receiver I saw as a freshman was Larry Fitzgerald.

If Ryan Day actually used him all season there's a good chance that this isn't even a conversation. But for now, I'm going to say Clarett
All the candidates I thought of are mentioned in the comment section except for Dupree. Wasn't he a frosh?
You got to remember he’s not the go to guy at Ohio State if he were on a lesser team with a descent QB he would even have better numbers.
He is the go to guy tho

Randy Moss was the best and Moss didn’t push off on a regular basis
Joel Klatt says Smith would be the #! daft pick this year
No. Winston won a natty. Deanthony had 2200 total yards
Amazing year , but he was a not a true freshman .
Was a Redshirt not true fresh
Give the kid time to develop
No sir , that title belongs to Herschel walker
No no no you guys got it wrong. It’s all Brian Hartline. Just like with MHJr aka the son of an NFL HoF WR … 💀

Derek Stingley Jr. had the best true freshman season ever. 2019 LSU Tigers. 🐯
Adrian Peterson
Suprised nobody mentioned stingley imma buckeye fan but sting def deserves to be mentioned. Shut down his whole side of the field
Smith might not stay all 3 yrs
He didn’t even have a 1000 yard receiving season
