SMU wasn't a pretender, that game today was a fluke in my opinion. Two pick sixes to start the game and you get down 14 points in the blink of an eye. And then you throw another interception right after.. It's almost impossible for *any* team to come back from that. The momentum is instantly in Penn State's favor when the game starts that way and you are playing from behind the rest of the game. Weird stuff happens sometime and that was absolutely a weird game in the first quarter. SMU is a good team that played awful today, mostly in the first quarter If SMU were a pretender they wouldn't have came back nearly 20 points and almost beat my Clemson Tigers a few weeks ago. You can say Indiana is a pretender if you want I guess, you can say Tennessee is a pretender- but SMU was not. Their loss was unlike the other 3 today. Had SMU scored when they were in the red zone on that one drive, maybe it's a back and forth game the entire 4 quarters. We will never know, but yeah. SMU should not have been penalized and kicked out for losing the ACC championship, when they would have 100% been in the play-offs if they didn't go to the ACC championship. SEC apologists were screaming all day about how Alabama and South Carolina should have been in instead of SMU/Indiana. But here we have Ohio State beating Tenn by 32 and IU only lost by 23. Tennessee beat Alabama, so maybe Alabama would have had the same result as IU. On a different note, I bet GA is shitting the bed knowing that Penn State barely lost to OSU and OSU just whooped Tenn like a red headed step child. Also, you can see how playing the game in the South in the warmth benefits the SEC. When they have to play in cold weather, they are awful and can't hack it. OSU's team is built for this type of gameplay, you can see the physical discomfort of Tenn having to play in sub-freezing temperatures. It definitely effected them, and if all of the bowl games weren't home games for the SEC then we wouldn't have the type of dominance that we have seen for the last 15 years. What the first round has shown ultimately is that having underdogs play the higher seed at their home stadium is going to give predictable results. Home field advantage in college determines games. It's not like NFL where the athletes play at a completely different level. Home field advantage wins games. Period.

Can we stfu about Indiana not belonging in the playoff now? They had the closest margin all weekend. The reality is that only about 6 teams are good enough to compete for a natty, and only 2-4 are good enough to win it. A 12 team playoff will always have teams that "don't deserve it"
This right here. You are absolutely correct. 6 good enough to compete. 2-4 good enough to win the whole thing. It will be like that going forward just about every year.
THANK YOU! couldn't have said it better. true for any playoff system tbh. there will always be underdogs, most will get handed a loss very easily. but they don't deserve to be trashed on just cuz they lost. not being elite doesn't equal being bad, it just means you're not elite. that's it. you can be a good team and _not_ be elite.

SMU is a good team that played awful today, mostly in the first quarter
If SMU were a pretender they wouldn't have came back nearly 20 points and almost beat my Clemson Tigers a few weeks ago. That's an awful precedent.
