I’ve never really been in to ROTT but the amount of effort that went in to this makes me want to play it. If people are this passionate about it, there’s gotta be something to it, right?
ROTT has that problem old wolf3d and blake stone had where the levels get repetitive and boring pretty quickly, and since making maps for it is relatively easy, there's plenty of maps to make you get all sleepy from navigating mazes. Didn't have that problem in the shareware episode, but when i played the full game, it became pretty apparent. Maybe the new episode in this port will be interesting enough to stave off the boredom though, we'll see.
Yep, sold and installed. Example of a re-release done right. The HUD faces, man. Love me some HUD faces. I love that they finished up some of the content that got cut, and stuffed it in there. I love that they kept the Apogee fanfare startup screen intact. They knew exactly what to add or subtract without over-reaching. I'm highly critical of this kind of stuff, I give it critical acclaim. Worth the purchase, even if you already have ROTT.
I just got this and it's insane how much love and care was put into this release. So many cool options and quality of life features that let you play ROTT however you like.
I am super happy for Civvie. I am glad he gets this. He's influenced me to revisit a lot of games and once again driven by his boundless enthusiasm I've spent the dollars.
This is how you release games. By giving it to the people who know what they are doing, know what fans want and know how to deliver. My favorite part was when Nightdive said "This is good enough... But we can do better" and they did.
I still remember having played the hell out of this game, yet on Christmas morning I got a shiny new Micron 486 pc and fired this game up on it and was shocked that all the characters had Santa hats on. This is killer!
Not the first time I've heard of a villain meeting the worse-than-death fate of being trapped in a time loop forever where they keep dying but unlike Diavolo, El Obscuro 100% deserves it for the events of Extreme ROTT.
Gotta say, because I think it can't be said enough, but I really appreciate you taking your time making all these videos through the years and keeping up a "universe", so to speak, and if you have people behind the scenes helping you they deserve a bunch of credit too!
I knew this video was coming, I just didn't realize it was coming THIS fast! I am happy for Civvie and for all ROTT fans. I have been waiting to play this game until this released because the source ports are such a royal janky pain to get working. It's also awesome hearing the ending credits and seeing everything come full circle, back home.
If you warp to Gods of Annihilation, and beat it real quick you get the Extreme ROTT achievement and the Well Done one too, just a heads up. If anyone hasnt tried that. I laughed when it actually worked

The HUNT Continues is friggin' awesome. It's really cool how they made the new levels look so great, despite the orthogonal walls and the limited versatility of the ROTT engine (compared to something like Doom). It makes a big difference to see that any pair of textures can now be placed on the same wall, and the new textures add a great deal. Other great little touches include the fact El Oscuro appears in several levels, the larger and more elaborate start and exit rooms which create the illusion of a larger world, that suspension bridge with GADs... the last level is also ominous and amazing-looking. And the new gameplay ideas are a lot of fun: the clever way to beat the NME, that obstacle course with the napalm projectiles in the level with Sebastian Krist, the double napalm projectiles that block progress in Casual Sunday Barbecue and how moving walls are needed to avoid them... Some of my favorite levels are Out in the Open, A Pane in the Glass, Mist Opportunity, Ain't No Mountain, Follow the HUNTer, Staff Meeting, Casual Sunday Barbecue and Requiem for a Team.
First time poster, but I just wanted to say. You 100% are the reason I bought this remaster. Your years of using ROT music in your videos alone made it a must play. Thanks to you I discovered a great retro shooter, supported devs that made a great product and a UA-camr who really makes great videos that inspire action.
I have a unique history with Rise of the Triad. I had a copy of the 3.5 disc original, later got a CD version, and finally... when I went to Cedar Point one year in the mid to late 90s they had a VR machine that when you joined was a VR version of Rise. Years later when I returned to Cedar Point, it had been replaced with a VR Duke. No clue where they got the games from.
ROTT had built in support for the Forte VFX-1, as did Descent, Duke Nukem 3D and a few other games from that period. It was one of many false starts for consumer level home VR
Can't wait for this to come to consoles, it was supposed to on the 31st of July but then got delayed, I really hope not for very long tho. P.S. - Consoles players really need to get Blood and Shadow Warrior (the original) being a HUGE DOOM/Duke Nukem/Ion Fury etc etc fan, I'd absolutely LOVE to play some Blood & Shadow Warrior. Hopefully someday!
I was blown away with ROTT getting such a fine treatment. It deserves it, don't get me wrong, but it's still a bit of an obscure game. This port is FANTASTIC.
I will never forget this one time, when I was a little kid in the 90's, getting on my crispy old slow IBM computer to play Rise of the Triad on Christmas day, and seeing the christmas-themed easter egg on the title screen. It blew my mind. I had been playing the game for years but had never seen it, what a treat! I hope they included this easter egg in the remaster, would be curious if someone can set their system clock to xmas day and check.
New changes i suggest for this rise of the triad version: Pistol have critical chance (with gore head shot animation)makin good for long distances, akimbo pistol have headshot chance too but much less. Akimbo for machine gun(2 machines gun or 1 machine and pistol) for limited time, like other power ups like armours or dog mode. Double machine gun have double fire rate good to clean fast weak ememies. Pistol and machine gun ,pistol have critical chance like normal pistol, so while machine gun stun some enemies like enforcer, pistol have chance to kill enforcer with one shot. Enforcer with gas mask, inmune to gas traps and make a hard enemies on some maps(have chance to drop gas mask too) Death monks inmune to gas trap, monks have half heal, but revive passing some time unless are killed with explosives(gore explosion) or other special weapons burn bodies.
This made me more excited than it made you (betcha). We were both 90s teens and put WAY too many hours on ROTT. EDIT: Holy crap, you miss shots and take hits deer-in-headlights like I do!

These videos convinced me that I had to play this game. It was on sale last night, so now I finally get to see what all the fuss is about. I'm loving it so far. Thanks, Civvie!
Its so awesome they put civvie 11 in the credits
I don't much care for ROTT but the sheer joy that you and the New Blood guys have for it is heartwarming as hell.
Muffled from another room, "Goin’ Down the Fast Way" plays. She finished applying her makeup. Shoes in hand, she closed the front door as quietly as she could on the way out.
The dog's face is just too good.
Just this once, Civvie gets to go home happy.
Well, "go home" is questionable, but at least he is happy and unelectrocuted
i think this might be the first time he _avoids_ a zapping
18:00 - "although this ending". That looks like something I did in Wall to Wall, but it's been ages since I played that, I'd have to to re-look.
Nightdive, New Blood, Civvie and Gianni together is like if Boomer Shooters had a tribute band. Musical Ragnarok.
That's quite a package! Although it would have been even greater if they contacted Lee Jackson to do some new tunes, considering he's still around and kicking, even made some music for Doom mods.
in an era of half assed and overpriced remasters/rereleases (lol Mario 3D All Stars) this looks incredibly impressive in its improvements and how it remains faithful to what fans loved about the original game. i havent played this before, let alone almost any of the shooters on this channel, but i really wanna support these developers yo this is top fucking notch fan service
I’ve never really been in to ROTT but the amount of effort that went in to this makes me want to play it. If people are this passionate about it, there’s gotta be something to it, right?
I mean, it's Mario Maker with guns
ROTT has that problem old wolf3d and blake stone had where the levels get repetitive and boring pretty quickly, and since making maps for it is relatively easy, there's plenty of maps to make you get all sleepy from navigating mazes.
Didn't have that problem in the shareware episode, but when i played the full game, it became pretty apparent.
Maybe the new episode in this port will be interesting enough to stave off the boredom though, we'll see.
Got to love the punny names of ROTT's levels. Was there not a Plutonia level called "Caughtyard" as well?
Correct-a-mundo, it was Plutonia's stand-in for Dead Simple as MA07.
I'm so glad they released this remaster, since I discovered the channel I really wanted to give it a shot and so far I'm hooked. Really fun game.
How could anyone not love Mario Maker with guns
Fun fact! Tom's Halls is practically based on the Doom 2 map "Refueling Base"!
if i recall correctly, refueling base is a tweaked tom hall map from before he left, which makes it even funnier!
@@dubiousSanguine It's also one of my favorite maps in Doom 2. Tom Hall was secretly the best mapper.
@@BlooditeDrakan its one of my favorites too, even if i always run out of ammo in it.
Worth the purchase, even if you already have ROTT.
wow. we don't have to wait for christmas for Civvie to do Rott Ludricous edition.
I just got this and it's insane how much love and care was put into this release. So many cool options and quality of life features that let you play ROTT however you like.
Always a pleasure to throw money at ROTT and say “Here, catch!”
@7:22 -- I have always loved that death animation so goddamn much ever since I was a high school senior in early 1995.😊
I still remember having played the hell out of this game, yet on Christmas morning I got a shiny new Micron 486 pc and fired this game up on it and was shocked that all the characters had Santa hats on. This is killer!
"Expect Enforcers" Is just generally good life advice when you play boomshoots.
Not the first time I've heard of a villain meeting the worse-than-death fate of being trapped in a time loop forever where they keep dying but unlike Diavolo, El Obscuro 100% deserves it for the events of Extreme ROTT.
Another amazing video I'm honored to be in the credits for. Keep up the great work!~
I think if it bleeds is meant to look like E1M1 from fortress of DR Radiaki with the walls and mountain jungle skybox
You know it's good when it starts with some sweet mode 7.
I’m just wondering what the fuck that clip is from at 1:20.
@@derpstick5467 it's from the Realms Deep showcase. 3DRealms does it every year. They show mostly indie fps games, though recently they include games from other genres too. Any game you didn't see in the major showcases, you ll probably find it here. The 2023 show starts this September 30th and lasts for 2 days. watch it, it's good.
Without you civvie, i wouldn't even know about know about this LUDICROUS masterpiece 👍
First time poster, but I just wanted to say. You 100% are the reason I bought this remaster. Your years of using ROT music in your videos alone made it a must play. Thanks to you I discovered a great retro shooter, supported devs that made a great product and a UA-camr who really makes great videos that inspire action.
So happy this actually managed to come out, Apogee did good work here.
I got this day one and I'm very pleased.
Also a new Civvie video, also makes me smile
“The engine killing gibs cheat no longer kills the engine”
I see this as an absolute win.
Awesome video ! always a good day when Civvie uploads! might have to check it out now that its updated and polished!
This is a remaster that has no business at being this based as it should, but that just tells you the care Nightdive puts into making them.
Another Masterpiece. I am in awe and in Tears) Very grateful for another ROTT video.
I was blown away with ROTT getting such a fine treatment. It deserves it, don't get me wrong, but it's still a bit of an obscure game. This port is FANTASTIC.
The amount of features and additions to ROTT is insane, I took a solid 20 minutes just STARING AT THE MENU OPTIONS.
I got so excited when this released knowing this video was coming.
This is the best birthday gift to wake up to Civvie. 🎁 Long Live Big John!
New changes i suggest for this rise of the triad version:
Pistol have critical chance (with gore head shot animation)makin good for long distances, akimbo pistol have headshot chance too but much less.
Enforcer with gas mask, inmune to gas traps and make a hard enemies on some maps(have chance to drop gas mask too)
Death monks inmune to gas trap, monks have half heal, but revive passing some time unless are killed with explosives(gore explosion) or other special weapons burn bodies.
It's nice seeing civvie be happy.
Knew about Rise of the Triad for years, but it was your videos that made me curious and, eventually, a fan.
This made me more excited than it made you (betcha). We were both 90s teens and put WAY too many hours on ROTT.
EDIT: Holy crap, you miss shots and take hits deer-in-headlights like I do!
I grabbed this before this video already, since I love seeing old FPS games getting some love like this. Good stuff.
Honestly not the biggest fan of ROTT but I can still approve of and appreciate the sheer love for ROTT in this remaster. Nightdive CARED, here more than any other project they've done.
i'm told new blood's contract has 20 pages detailing exactly what dave will do to your house depending on which specific flaws hold your game back from "8.5/10 at worst", and only people who accept each one individually can work with him
I love how the ROTT door opening sound is just the Doom opening sound without the ending. xD
Always great to see Civvie doing more RoTT. Fits too well
Nice pic
4:37. 29 years ago. 29 years ago... I played this game when it was brand new. Holy crap, I'm old like Civvie!
Wild that David is known as the "Iron Lung guy" now and not the "Dusk guy"
Not through any fault of his own, it's just that Markiplier isn't really a boom-shoot guy.
@@christopherwall2121It’s interesting, because Mark has said before that the original Doom was one of the first games that he ever played, so I’m surprised that he hasn’t played games like Dusk or Boltgun on his channel.
@@KittycatKye The Algorithm does not like LPers stepping out of their lane
@@christopherwall2121 That's true, which is unfortunate. If he were to upload videos of himself playing Doom/Quake-inspired FPS games on his channel, they probably wouldn't receive as many views as his other videos. Regardless, I'd still love to see him do a play-through of Dusk, even if it seems unlikely.
Its so great that a game series that was created almost 30 YEARS ago, still has dedicated people to keep it going and making fun for new generations of fps fans. Thank you Civvie 11 for another great video for a great game.
One of the three ROTT fans checking in, you sold me, yeah.
ROTT fan 2 reporting in. Where's Carl? He's late
A nice feature would an "Iron Men" mode - you play the game from start to finish on a single save, and have a limited number of lives for each member of HUNT - when you die, you switch to another member of the team, and Game Over is when all the members of HUNT are dead.
Big John will live on in our hearts.
It's kind of cool when you see a game on Steam like this one and think, "Oh Man, the Civvie video on this is going to be delectable"
That ending level name hit me in the gut so bad.
I love recognizing all the music in this video from playing all kinds of Doom wads, but not the actual game. This looks like the ideal remaster, kudos to the devs for making it.
