Actually... I have to admit, I think the "tourist" angle could have had weight. I mean, there has to be a moment in every good hero film when the protagonist is confronted with a philosophical challenge in addition to the physical ones. And it's a fairly valid point. If a heroine has the opportunity to return to safety at any time, how then can they relate to people who are trapped in a hostile environment? But then, would Wonder Woman would have had to go on to prove her sincerity somehow? How? And I suppose that, the way it's presented, it really seems more like Steve's problem than hers. After all, if someone's offering a helping hand, you don't just slap it away because they're not under the gun the same way you are. It creates a bitter dynamic between Steve and Diana that seems remarkably severe. It's the sort of line you'd expect to hear from the villain of the show, and something more likely to be ignored by our heroine immediately rather than given genuine time and thought. What's the point of Steve yelling at her like this? Should she feel chastised because she has an escape route? She's knows she's probably not going to use it. She's Wonder Woman! So, while it carries weight, it's really more of an "impact" line than a genuine examination of the heroine's nature. Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman faced a more significant and lasting crisis when she realized that war couldn't be ended quickly or easily, and that she'd probably have to go on fighting forever, since the evil in humanity is due to innate urges rather than outside influence. Reconciling that revelation gives her a real character arc, effectively signaling her growth into a mature woman more aware of life's complexity. Calling her a tourist is more a critique on her situation than an actual, effective trial that she has to wrestle with in order to come into her own.
About that 'tourist' remark, we need some context. He could be wrong about her, she could start as a selfish person and then grow as a person during the film, etc. An isolated sentence, without context, can be misleading.

Awesome video. Thanks for making this -- Joss used to say that the reason he was struggling with the script is because he wasn't sure which storyarc was "iconic" for the character, like DK: Returns was for Batman. It's unfortunate that he could've just easily adapted any one of the MANY iconic WW stories out there, including her origin story, which is pretty much a modern-day anti-war fairytale. He could've gotten Circe and adapted her (his kind of "badass" feminism suits her better) with cues from the Perez era. Ultimately I think he just wasn't the right person for the job. Despite my love for Avengers, I always thought Whedon was overrated. Everything's a joke. Everything's a punchline. Well...at least he got to direct a film with Wonder Woman in it, I guess. I just hope he wasn't to blame for having Batman go jokey. I wouldn't mind seeing THE Stryfe in the WW sequel. however.
Im sure the line "youre not a hero, youre a fcking tourist" was during the part of the movie when Steve and Diana fight/argue. Taking the opinion of an ex-wife and actors Joss had dressed down long before isnt a reliable source.
I suppose doing a superhero film from someone elses' POV would be interesting, but not the first, necessarily. The audience could do with exploring them a bit more first, as they did with Diana. And, I don't know, I like to think Joss' name carried a fair bit of weight before the Avengers films. And, with my point above, a Gotham City Central film or mini-series, without focusing on Batman, but the GCPD and the villains, could be interesting, or a Pulse mini-series, or Frontline, on Ben Urich etc investigating and reporting on matters at large in the Marvel universe.
Well, Avengers was awesome, but Age Of Ultron was one of the worst MCU movies besides maybe Iron man 3, and GOTG Vol. 2. He would've been much better off handling a black widow film, but seems now he's off to DC (again) to try and do batgirl? idk, would've preferred him to handle gotham city sirens instead. Or finally go get the rights to make a sailor moon film.
Nah, Marvel doesn't get better with repeated watch, DCEU gets better with repeated views, well except for Suicide Squad. Can't really dig the shallowness with Marvel movies other than they are good popcorn movies. Man of Steel, UE of BvS and Wonder Woman are more indulging.
we all agree we’re glad this film was never made. I’m not a fan of anything joss has done besides Buffy and am always surprised people even hire him or he successfully crossed over to superhero films.
i dont see what is it that is wrong with this script....that line out of context isnt enough to judge it....but the script for the movie we got is better so i guess everything went ok

Joss Whedon had a huge load of credit in Hollywood, he helped write Toy Story and cleaned up the awful and very problematic Alien: Resurrection script.
Crazy4Comics agreed. Recast Ares, rework his dialogue and motivation, redo all his scenes including the final fight. 1. His motivation was trash: He was doing perfectly fine without Diana..he obviously didn't need her help. She was also on the verge of just going back home...yet he reveals himself to her knowing that she can kill him..all under the false premise that he somehow needs her. 2. That actor was not believable as Ares: Recast Ares as someone who can be menacing and intimidating without the terrible cg...cut the cheesy villain acting... there's just too much. It was honestly a decent movie until they pulled this. They really dropped the ball with this.
"Joss Whedon was known to do strong female characters right, so having him do the film for doing arguably the most iconic female character was a no brainer." apart from... a woman.
The context of the script as a whole is needed to understand fully the impact of what Trevor really said. We don’t know where she stands as a character let alone a hero, and I think whedon could’ve wrote the story in a way that in a society where powerful men and corruption runs everything aside from themyscria, the movie deals with a lot of people telling WW or Diana that she can’t do much or won’t accomplish much which is very reflective of the treatment of women earlier within 20th century than Diana impacted and showing the pain of her belittlement could’ve risen above it giving the younger female audience an encouraging message of being a woman isn’t disabling but it’s empowering in fact it’s wonderful
It's sad to know that a director like Joss Whedon had something so pitiful in mind. But if I think about it a bit, the movie would have been a Wonder Woman from the eyes of a man. I know what I'm going to say something sexist, but it was good that they left the project in the hands of a woman.
D.San Not true. By 1940's standards, he was pretty progressive. He believed women were stronger than men (albeit, more likely to be submissive, though he viewed submission in general as a good thing and was sexually submissive himself) and would eventually lead the world. He was also a huge supporter of the suffragette movement, which is why Wonder Woman has always had female empowerment as a theme.
unknown unknown but the ultimate vision of the movie was in the control of Patty Jenkins, who also rewrote a lot of hw script but wasn’t credited for it
Make sure to stick till the very end of this video after the credits. That's all I'm saying... twitter.com/CutShortTube Follow me on twitter if you'd really like too, hear me talk about random shit
I actually think there's potential in a movie focusing on the partner/family of a superhero... Although obviously going in that direction for an A list superhero is just silly!
Jeez, I can't believe DC cancelled so many Wonder Woman movies, TV shows & projects in the mid 90's throughout the mid 2000s because of Lynda Carter's popular portrayal & male filmmakers & tv creators try their hands on a live action Wonder Woman. although they were delayed due to sexualizing women.
That line from the first draft of the script is awesome. That is such an interesting direction to take the character. Obviously, there is truth to the idea of her being a tourist. The line has nothing to do with gender, and is not disrespectful. I think assuming that this line is disrespectful, is sexist.
There isn’t any truth at all, why would Diana ever do that? Why is Steve the protagonist so will see what he’s saying as correct? This is stupid and if Alfred said this to Batman, people would be angry
That’s the first time I’ve heard of the movie being from “Steve Trevor perspective”, I didn’t see it that way...but I agree that Whedon is a sexist prick that has ruined the dc franchise.
“I don’t want to be Bobsponge” is, quite possibly, one of the most hilarious things to ever come out of an A-list celebrities mouth lmao. Fucking dying here.
What are you on? That's an awesome line! And losing her powers only to reclaim them sounds like the classic hero's journey. do you know anything about story telling? Also your example about iron man is completely irrelevant, that was set in a familiar context. Wonderwomen and the island is set in a completely fantastical and magical world that the veiwer is not familiar with. I'm not saying it's the right direction but setting it from Steve's perspective seems like a legitimate way to initially introduce the viewer to this strange new world.
Yeah. That is a bit unfair. The first draft of a movie is just to convince the studio about your ideas. It is usually re-written multiple times as problems are pointed out. The original Wonder Woman 2017 script would be just as daft.
Ahhhh, a fabulous movie in which Cobie Smulder is shackled during half the flick, is called a tourist by Steve Trevor and fight an Hercules and Xena villain.., well, I’m glad we had the Gal Gadot movie instead ^^
There have been so many iterations of comic book Wonder Woman, and each directory usually lean towards the version they are initiated with. While this DCEU version of Wonder Woman is pretty great, we have yet to see how this version of Wonder Woman translates to a modern setting in a solo movie. By setting her origins in WW1, which from an American stand point the right and wrong of the war was pretty clear cut, Wonder Woman's take on things would easily be the correct one. So far, the two movies with her in a modern setting, BvS and JL both kinda sucked. Granted, Wonder Woman plays a tiny role and kind of was the best part of both movies, she still hadn't have to come to term with a world where black and white isn't so clear cut. I think Joss' script was aiming for that direction. With the story being in a contemporary setting, the fish out of water aspects would also be adjusted. As for whether Wonder Woman can get hurt by firearms, if she is impervious to bullets why would she bother to block them with her bracelet or shield? The fact those iconic items are in her tool set shows her resistance to bullets is not a very consistently defined trait in the comics. The last battle from DCEU's Wonder Woman kinda implies that in this iteration she's invincible to mortal weapons to begin with. I mean if Ares and poisonous gas can't really harm her, what's a few bullets gonna do? Joss trying to explore the vulnerability of Wonder Woman isn't an inferior version, I actually think it would make her more heroic when she faces danger knowing she's that vulnerable. I'm not saying Joss' version would have been a better movie. I wouldn't trash it just because it's different from the one we got though. In an ideal world, we'd get both, and like them for different reasons.
"You're not a hero, you're a fucking tourist" Is it bad that I cracked up when I heard that

De hecho si es algo que me imagino a alfred diciéndole a Bruce en sus primeros dias
The comics version of Strife you’re referencing is from 2011, five years after this WW movie was supposed to come out.
Sounds horrible. Happy this movie never made it
Despite my love for Avengers, I always thought Whedon was overrated.
Is it me or does it have heavy resemblance to ww84?
I suppose doing a superhero film from someone elses' POV would be interesting, but not the first, necessarily. The audience could do with exploring them a bit more first, as they did with Diana.
And, I don't know, I like to think Joss' name carried a fair bit of weight before the Avengers films.
And, with my point above, a Gotham City Central film or mini-series, without focusing on Batman, but the GCPD and the villains, could be interesting, or a Pulse mini-series, or Frontline, on Ben Urich etc investigating and reporting on matters at large in the Marvel universe.
Whedon is overrated , he fits better with marvels characters.
No, Whedon's jokes were far too lame...and never forget that he "fought" for that lame farm house scene in AoU.
Eric J Same could be said with MCU movies
Well, Avengers was awesome, but Age Of Ultron was one of the worst MCU movies besides maybe Iron man 3, and GOTG Vol. 2. He would've been much better off handling a black widow film, but seems now he's off to DC (again) to try and do batgirl? idk, would've preferred him to handle gotham city sirens instead. Or finally go get the rights to make a sailor moon film.
JSSTyger That scene was great because it showed even though fighting with gods Hawkeye's still a person
It makes sense she called him Bobsponge. In Israel, Spongebob is called בובספוג (Bobsfug) aka Bobsponge.
Hyppolyte (hɪ'-pɒl-ɪ'-tə)
Kimaera (kī'-mir-ə)
Imagine a misogynist like Whedon creating a Wonder Woman movie. What a world that would be...
we all agree we’re glad this film was never made. I’m not a fan of anything joss has done besides Buffy and am always surprised people even hire him or he successfully crossed over to superhero films.
i dont see what is it that is wrong with this script....that line out of context isnt enough to judge it....but the script for the movie we got is better so i guess everything went ok
That was a great video. You didn't bullshit and you went right to the point. And the jokes you added we're good.... I feel like you really didn't waste my time... and I thank u for that. Because the video was that good I waited until the end and your final comment literally had me laughing out loud
Joss Whedon had a huge load of credit in Hollywood, he helped write Toy Story and cleaned up the awful and very problematic Alien: Resurrection script.
Okay so if he wanted Colbie Smulders as Dianna the only acceptable Steve would've been Neil Patrick Harris no doubt
the wonder woman film we eventually got is just perfect i dont know how you could improve upon it
random dude Take out the final fight that conflicts with and basically makes the message of the film pointless
Crazy4Comics agreed. Recast Ares, rework his dialogue and motivation, redo all his scenes including the final fight.
1. His motivation was trash:
He was doing perfectly fine without Diana..he obviously didn't need her help. She was also on the verge of just going back home...yet he reveals himself to her knowing that she can kill him..all under the false premise that he somehow needs her.
2. That actor was not believable as Ares:
Recast Ares as someone who can be menacing and intimidating without the terrible cg...cut the cheesy villain acting... there's just too much.
It was honestly a decent movie until they pulled this. They really dropped the ball with this.
"Joss Whedon was known to do strong female characters right, so having him do the film for doing arguably the most iconic female character was a no brainer."
apart from...
a woman.
What about the proposed Wonder Woman TV series by David E. Kelley back in 2011?
That was cancelled after one episode by NBC.
1:17 It’s ADAPTATION, not “adaption.”
2:37 that is a great line! I love it!
Harley Quinn's my Wonder Woman, fight me
Invisible jet is cool.It is just the way it is drawn in comics that make it look bad
That tourist line is amazing
Edgy, Daring. Would've liked to have seen the Context for it.
Cobie as WW would be wierd. When I think of movies we never got would be Aquaman made by James Cameron
wow, so much has changed in a couple of years
That line had me shooketh
Dc trinity of the 2000's:
Superman = Brandon routh
Batman = christian bale
Wonder woman = cobie smulders
Why is everyone putting down that he wanted Colby Smulders?
I heard it was Morena Baccarin he wanted to play Diana!
Just found my new favorite UA-cam channel
Wasn't it Hippolyta ?
He's going off the name written in the Whedon script.
Hippolyte was the original golden age version of Hippolyta's name.
It's sad to know that a director like Joss Whedon had something so pitiful in mind. But if I think about it a bit, the movie would have been a Wonder Woman from the eyes of a man. I know what I'm going to say something sexist, but it was good that they left the project in the hands of a woman.
The movie was written by 4 men lmao
Karina Rut Astegher yeah that's sexist. Since she was made by a guy. A weird sexist guy but still
Karina Rut Astegher I'm a guy and I'm glad that Whedon didn't get his perverted hands on WW. He would've had em wearing leather bakinis!
D.San Not true. By 1940's standards, he was pretty progressive. He believed women were stronger than men (albeit, more likely to be submissive, though he viewed submission in general as a good thing and was sexually submissive himself) and would eventually lead the world. He was also a huge supporter of the suffragette movement, which is why Wonder Woman has always had female empowerment as a theme.
unknown unknown but the ultimate vision of the movie was in the control of Patty Jenkins, who also rewrote a lot of hw script but wasn’t credited for it
Your editing is spot on. Cheers
Good job getting a sponsor! Great video as usual!
The tourist remark is not only offensive and incorrect about her character but its also a giant ripoff from Fight Club, way to be original Whedon.
That bouncer joke was good
I laughed.
Khimaera (खीमरा) translates from Hindi as "cheek", but is also the name of village in Sumerpur Tehsil in the Pali District of Rajasthan State, India.
Thanks gods we haven't the Whedon´s version of WW.
Make sure to stick till the very end of this video after the credits. That's all I'm saying...
twitter.com/CutShortTube Follow me on twitter if you'd really like too, hear me talk about random shit
Cutshort hey man you should try to do something on the canceled Matt Ryan, John Constantine show that was on nbc for one season
Batman beyond
That Justice League movie years back, I'm new, just subscribed! :D
Cool video, thumbs.
I actually think there's potential in a movie focusing on the partner/family of a superhero... Although obviously going in that direction for an A list superhero is just silly!
tyler innes
He already did Batman Beyond.

"It's hard to imagine anyone else playing Wonder Woman."
Lynda Carter?
Can you discuss the cancelled WW TV series? Thanks!
I actually liked Adrienne Palicki as Wonder Woman. You can find the Pilot online.
3:45 LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL But wtf.. Atleast label where these scenes are from lol I want to see the full
Love Joss's show and the first Avengers film, but Thank God this Never happened!
“I don’t want to be Bobsponge” is, quite possibly, one of the most hilarious things to ever come out of an A-list celebrities mouth lmao. Fucking dying here.
I would totally watch "Wonder Woman vs. Mecha-Ghidorah", but not THAT version of "Wonder Woman vs. Mecha-Ghidorah".
You could just call them "Amazons" -- not "Amazonians." Amazons are a race of women, not the name of a place.
"I respect Joss Whedon as a director" LOL that didn't age well. That man deserves 0 respect for anything
A "Marvels" adaption where superhero events are from a normal guys perspective would be pretty cool though
My boy Brendan is growing fast! Now he's getting the green papers!
It's pronounced "Hip-POL-lit-ta" - not "Hippo- light" - and the other name is "Chim-Mer-AH"
this change from a Steve point a view...to a wonder woman point view .and keep Strife a Woman...That would have been a good movie
What's the context of that line? Was it towards the end to psyche up the hero to defeat the main villian?
An Iron Man movie from the perspective of Pepper actually sounds interesting.
I'd have loved that line in the film though. Just for the emotional drama.
It's possible he lost his temper somewhere. The line was shown out of context.
^Another person bringing facts into this.
Very well made and interesting videos. Is it just comic book films you talk about and you work in the industry?
^You sound like a sane, rational intelligent person. What are you doing here?
I always imagined cobe smoulder because the animated justice league war WW looked just like her
Eww, joss whedon may as well be directing marvels captain marvel movie
