Very helpful video, thanks Carmine! I believe you can hold the shift key and that will allow you to bypass the order confirmation as well. With a 2 year old at home, it's risky to keep auto-send on
this still seems so slow for order entry and clumsy. Tradestation, motivewave.. heck most of the other platforms make it so you can order so much faster. In some cases 1 click. All the things you have to do to order allow an individual to make mistakes on the way whereas if you use a one click process it's really hard to mess up pressing one button. I really like TOS but the order entry is archaic and primitive. Other plat forms that are simple to use like TC2000 are literally 1 click after you pick the option (which resides on the same page so you don't have to go back and forth)
Even quicker way is to click the arrow next to where the symbol is on the active trader window, click options and drag the symbol into the new box and click what option you want. No switching tabs and takes about 3 seconds
Can you elaborate on how to use a separate TOS account? Do you open a separate account with a different user name and password? Does TDA know that you have two separate accounts? I happen to have my wife's IRA account at TDA. I guess I could use her account for all my charting, and use my account for actual trading, since that would be the money I would be using? Or just open another account and stick $100 in it?
Great video! @10:00 you say you open a separate ToS application and another ToS program. You just mean you detach windows, correct? Was considering using a different laptop to run a separate ToS program for paper trading while I'm trading with my real account on my main laptop. Either way, thanks for the great tip of a dedicated window for the active trader! New subscriber!
Good information, but waving your cursor back and forth wildly while you talk makes it almost impossible to follow what you are doing. I can't tell when you click either, so moving your cursor without purpose while talking is completely confusing.
I think this is why my losses are higher than intended when I get stopped out. I do a mental stop loss, not physical. I'm going to implement this and try it tomorrow morning. Thank you!
I learned something today on active trader never knew you could use it for options. I think that is just for long or short calls or puts intraday, single calls or puts over several days only works 50 to 60 percent of the time, intraday short or long trends with single calls or puts work best. I only trade spreads within a week or months, but not single calls or puts.
Great tips but in real time the price ladder on the AT move very fast and before you scroll to get your desired price it has moved again. It is hard scrolling as the change is fast and the price list is a lot. How do you handle that?
You can increase the time from 5 seconds (default) to say 10 seconds persay in the options section where Don C highlighted, and the price will move after that longer duration of time... if you want it to move faster then 3 seconds etc. Else between the zoom in and out there's two triangles and a line where it centers the AT to market when you click it.
What shitty way to set up the options section for options scalper. It should all be able to be on one window. Not that you have anything to do with it, but really, their UX person needs to be replaced.
Thanks for making this video, some really great tips. I noticed the options commission was much higher using active trader (4.5 vs .50) have you noticed this as well?
OMG Carmine, what an eye-opener for TOS. I have been using this for a couple of years and have constantly not had an order filled due to many steps to enter and then to confirm. Thanks so much for this video!
Been trading under a year now and I am always trying different configured TorS style platforms. Just recently I started running three separate TorS platforms at the same time. And just like you. I have two for charts and one for Active trader. I wasn't sure if this was a stupid idea but it seem to working. And now that I see that I'm not the only one, I feel somewhat relieved. Thanks Carmine, two thumbs up.
You were speaking so fast omg...what do you mean 3 active programs running in the background? I wish you explained the better and provided some examples and detail of how to set that up....overall everything else was helpful
This also seemed a little silly to me. But I suppose the way TOS organizes its resources could mean that multiple instances of the program running at the same time could be more efficient. If a program is not cleanly scripted, it could make a difference. And frankly, there are few truly well scripted programs in the world (if the lay consumer only knew). I actually utilize two machines when I'm trading to avert congestions myself. It's hard for me to understand how having multiple RAM hungry and port filling programs open helps speed up things on the same machine. But people often outsmart themselves.
in my active trader above the bid price are buy stop orders and below the bid price are limit orders How do i set all orders to limit orders in active trader
If you are putting an order above the bid, they only can be buy stops, or else you should just market at the ask. You should only put an order on the bid if you want to be passive and should only be at it or below the inside bid
AONE float is ZERO!. Cathy Wood bought 1/2 and other Hedge Funds have bought the rest. Don't take my word for it. See AONE news and see what Cathy is buying. My AONE target is 20 to 40.
at 7:20 you say you don't recommend having the P/L on the active trader. would you please explain why you wouldn't? i'm new to trading and don't understand how it would be a detriment
Limit orders never get filled for me, neither when I open nor close trades. I'm always losing money buying and selling on Market. Is there something I'm missing because I'm frustrated.
Wait so you recommend opening ToS completely again and log in on a second application just solely for executions? Whats the difference between that and just detaching and having a separate window for AT?
As a default (paper trading account) Think or swim gives you two live accounts selections... how do you take the second one out to just have one OR as many as you want. Thanks!
I've been watching your videos for months and its been the single most helpful youtube channel to help me learn to trade options. Please never stop making these.
Carmine, I know you posted this two years ago, but it all still applies today and thank you for posting the video. I knew nothing about the setup options to improve my speed and have made the changes you suggested to my setup. One thing I recently added that I think makes my executions faster is to use the watchlist provided in TOS. Prior to the market opening, I select several contracts that I may be buying from the trade tab and right click on the contract. Just below the copy option is one that indicates add contract to watchlist and a drop-down menu that gives you several watchlists to choose from. I use "Potential Buys". Any given day I might have 10-15 different option contracts in the watchlist. Once the contracts are on the Potential Buys watchlist, you will notice that the watchlist is linked to the nine different color-coded chart options. If Red(1) is selected, all you have to do is click on the option in the watchlist you want to buy, and it will immediately be added to the Red(1) chart in the Active Trader grid you showed in your video. Change the watchlist color to Yellow(2) and click on a different contract in order to add it to the Yellow(2) chart in the Active Trader grid. You can add and remove contracts from the watchlist during the day depending on price action. Having contracts in the watchlist means that you can have the chart page up, make one click to the watchlist and be ready to trade without having to go to the Trade tab, find your option, send it to the correct chart and then click back to the chart tab to be able to buy that option. Then, if you are trading 0DTE options, that evening or the following day click on the Potential Buys label at the top of the watchlist and select Edit Potential Buys. That brings up a list of all the options in the watchlist. Click on the first one, hold down the shift key then click on the last one. Then click on Remove Symbols and they will all be removed from the watchlist so that you can start over on the next trading day. Or if you don't want to remove all of them, you can click on one option and then click on Remove Symbols to remove that option from the watchlist.
Thanks So Much for this video Man. It was exactly what I was looking for and more. Now My scalping game will get better. Never used active Trader because I thought it was for Forex and Options only. I ‘ve been doing scalps and very frustrated by all the extra clicks and the order confirmation. I had a Scalp attemp bite me in the ass today because I couldnt exit fast enough. Was up $1200 from 4 scalps on AMC and I should have called it a day but I was feeling good and too excited so I pushed to far and in my greed AMC decided to scalp me right back and I could not get out quick enough and it took me back down to $500 in an instant. Sucked but at least I was still ending the day positive. So I decided it was time to dig for quicker way to execute. Thanks.
Thank you for the tips, really appreciate it! Got one question for you, when I open up multiple TOS applications, does it save the different workspaces on each application or do I have load the workspace each time? Cheers!
So multiple applications for the same account. I have 3 different workspaces saved to my one account where I just open the program and on each window, I select the workspace
@@carmine_rosato Tried a million times. Doesnt work. Are you using Mac? Only thing Im finding is to do it using the Terminal Application. Is that what you do? Dont mean to ask a million times but once you open one application, Mac doesnt let you open to the same app twice as it sees that app as being open already. I think other people dont get it either from the comments.
Could please do a video on AT specifically? I'm curious how you set a trailing stop loss on AT. Or do you have to set a TSL using the traditional method on the Options Screen?
First of all, great tips and tricks!! I'm in your discord! How do I do this pre- and post- market with AT and auto fill on? Is there an option so I don't have to manually go back in and hit Day-EXT for pre and post market?

No, on PC you can open a full other TOS instance and have 2 applications running at the same time

How can you do that? I cannot open two different sessions with the same accunt in different Pcs. TOS won´t allow it.

at 2:40, how do i open the blue small tab at lower right corner?
Hit L2 on your chart sidebar

What about the "Autocenter AT price ladder every" setting @ 12:00? Yours is set to 5, but mine is defaulted to 3. Which is best?
You hit 0 on AT order submission order limit, but it showed 5, what was going on there? Great video by the way!
Wow. So very helpful. Thank you. If you had a donate now button, I would give you $10.
not sure if i commented before but Carmine do you use stop losses with options on active trader??? can you do a video on this???
Love you bro
Folks ....the free stuff Carmine puts out there on the interweb is invaluable....thanx C !
Appreciate that Steven !
Thanks for the real time no delay. Mine was setup with delay. They don't tell you this of course
Hi Carmine, many people are leaving TOS, as poor execution and fill. Do you still find the execution with Active Trader is great?
I needed this
Thank you
Great video, do you use join the bid/ask button in active trader? Pros and cons of that?
Great video. Thank you! Subscribed.

Not a bad platform when runs smooth and no lag
Dude thanks for your video on active trader. It’s a whole new world
OMG !! I can´t believe that my 3 seconds lag was because of that default configuration. I had just fixed it. Thanks a lot Carmine.
Yeah i dont know why thats defaulted, but its a really big and important difference!

Thank you so much! You gave such great information!!
