there is a benefit....when u trackin out a beat if all your sounds are on different tracks you can mute them and bring them back in cuz they on diff tracks rather than having your whole beat on one track it would be difficult to mute and bring back in different sounds...idk if thats a good explanation tho
That's a perfect explanation. Since I saw your video I started doing it and I noticed right away that I was able to mute in and out say...the kick then have the snare come in on the next sequence and so forth. Thanks for the help and keep doing your thing.
seriously i recommend some type of software to start out with something like Fruity Loops because u can get it for free and also if u master fruity loops then the mpc wont be as hard and also if u loose interest in music then it wouldnt have costed you a dime cuz u went with the software opposed to spending 500-2,500 on and mpc
it's all preference i usually do the drums first cuz i use the rhythm of the drums to help me piece the sample chops together but if im loopin a sample then the drums come after the sample loop but at the end of the day aint no real rules to this beatmakin shit do ur thing how ever you want to
Dope vid, thanks for helping me understand the mechanics behind the MPC. It always looked kinda complicated to me b/c some people just breeze thru it so fast, clicking here and there then laying patterns & samples. Essentially the same thing I do in Ableton haha, just on hardware. Good look and keep up the good work. Nice beat too.
to get a perfectly timed hi hats (or anything) hold down the tap tempo button and press the pad you assigned the hihat too but it will only work like that when you're playing or recording in a sequence. if you want it faster or slower just set the timing in the sequence main screen ie. 1/8
you record the sequence within the mpc, when you have that done it saves as a .wav file, you then save it as a sample and drag it to your computer where you convert it to an mp3. there are many ways to accomplish what you are asking. It seems as if you want to export all your sequences and make a track on a DAW and to each his own, I personally use the song function in the mpc because it is extremely easy to use and make my job easier, I only have to export and upload. Hope that helped.
very cool, thanks for the video. now I understand how it is to work with these and what they are for. nice beat too, sounded kind of old school. I wonder how much of that is the MPC's converters and sample rate on the audio quality.
yeah and audio interface is needed if u trackin beats out through software.....or one way you could do it(i dont advise this but if money is low) u can get one of those RCA to 1/4 cords and throw adapters on the rca part and put it in the right and left of ur mpc and put the headphone jack in the record jack in ur computer and use any recording program and record the beat like that but again i dont recomend that its just if u cant afford the interface right now
Dope beat man, props. What's the difference of laying your hats, kick and snare on seperate tracks as opposed to overdubbing and laying them down seperately? Is it just preference or is there some benefit in doing it on seperate tracks? Thanks
all you do is get a soul record, like blue magic, chaka khan, the whispers, earth wind fire etc. you get your turntable & drum machince sampler or whatever you use, sample the specific song or piece of the song, speed up the vocals on it to get that chipmunk affect, then make a beat out of the sample, using your drum machine or sequencer, you can add drums, claps, or someone else vocals, guitars, strings, etc. its just that its alot of legal trouble behind sampling & plus artist compensation
i dont use an mpc but it was cool to see how you arrange. i like that you start with the hats cause the metronome be killin me. where you from yo! oh yeah, where do you get most of your samples? records or other sorces?
@CAallday209 it doesn't really matter that much, with dedication you can get a lot of sweet sound out of anything, and if you don't have any clue what you're doing, then your beats you make with your mpc aren't less wack that what you'd do in fruity
blackmore4 I'm not sure I follow. What exactly are you implying? If you're speaking just generally about the sample, then maybe, but I don't recognize it. If you're speaking about the sampling style itself ...I wouldn't have it any other way.
@mrorendoff i always start of with sampling....i make a simple drum pattern to have a beat going to see what my sample patterns are going to be..i sequnce the intro verses and choruses and outro..delete the simple drums..find drums and make a couple difrent patters for about 30 minutes..than at the end measure all the volumes and use the mixer to fuck with the sound..for base I eather use a boobase or i filter out my samples and clown them and make it have a base sound,,mabey synths on top
@thatguytrynadosumn just start chopping up samples, then lay some drums first or vice versa. you need a pc to export your beats to. only the 4000 has a cd drive
Yo greenz34 great post, but I gotta ask what is the EXACT name of the song from 0:00-0:55 and what artist(s) are on that song and who produced it that shit IZZZ DOPE. It is really one of the best beats I've heard in awhile
My friend has a degree in music and knows a lot about it. He can make beats with ease. I told him to start giving me classes on producing beats. The first class I asked him if I should learn on an MPC and he said no. He said no matter how good I ever get with it that'll be the only thing I know. I wanted to get an MPC because it looks pretty simple to use. He is teaching me on a Korg 16 track sequencer and I'm not regretting it. Kinda happy I'm learning on that than an MPC. The Sequencer has a metronome. You can use different notes and the device will automatically correct you if you aren't on point time wise. Very helpful for beginners with no rhythm like me lol. Looks like you have to be on point with an MPC but hell if I know I never used one.
mpc Renaissance is dope man get you one if you have a laptop. if you cant afford the ren save up for one if you just cant wait get the mpc studio. you wont lose. just look up some videos on it. i have a Korg Kross keyboard hooked up to it laptop a record player my dvd player a microphone 4 monitors what da hell does he mean the mpc is limited. not true. the software it comes with is super extra. you dont have to have any rythym with it you can click in patterns with the mouse like fl studio if you want to. www.soundcloud.com/speakerBully check out what ive done with the Mpc.
MPC's are more limited than software sequencers like FL Studio/Cubase etc but actual beatmaking is a lot more user friendly on an MPC.....you should cop both if u can & use them both to craft your beats...
Got some questions: How do I get these sample patterns? I mean are there always the same sounds or can I actually change them? As you see I'm totally new to beatmaking, but I want to start doing it, which beatmaschine would you prefer for the beginning? Thanks, I hope someone answers.
On pretty much any MPC you should be able change the samples to whatever ones you want to use......an MPC/groovebox where you couldn't change the samples would be kinda crappy..... most machines let you edit & chop samples anyway.
@xXInfiniteyXx They range from 550 to 800. If you want something more up to date so you dont have to deal with zip drives and floppy disk go with the 4000

The beat in your intro is the TRUTH.. RESPECT if you did that.
That's a perfect explanation. Since I saw your video I started doing it and I noticed right away that I was able to mute in and out say...the kick then have the snare come in on the next sequence and so forth.
Thanks for the help and keep doing your thing.
I like how it quantizes your pattern beat for you.
great tutorial , especially about linking sequences. thanks!
Chuck strangers, probly one of my favorite beat makers in the biz right now

Im a rap beatmaker, and i love sampling. which mpc is the one for me? i personally really like the mpc2000xl
Damn this is dope.

still love this beat!
Thanks for the video man. Where did you get your drum sounds from?
That beat in the beginning is sexy lol good work bro
nice breh
i dont use an mpc but it was cool to see how you arrange. i like that you start with the hats cause the metronome be killin me. where you from yo! oh yeah, where do you get most of your samples? records or other sorces?

Uff, it’s not even summer but suddenly it’s hot in here
How many time do I gotta tweak the volume knob before the beat sounds dope?
That intro beat is fire
Anomaly 404 Sure, but... haven't you heard it a zillion times before?
blackmore4 I'm not sure I follow. What exactly are you implying? If you're speaking just generally about the sample, then maybe, but I don't recognize it. If you're speaking about the sampling style itself ...I wouldn't have it any other way.
very tidy bro. ups!
@mrorendoff i always start of with sampling....i make a simple drum pattern to have a beat going to see what my sample patterns are going to be..i sequnce the intro verses and choruses and outro..delete the simple drums..find drums and make a couple difrent patters for about 30 minutes..than at the end measure all the volumes and use the mixer to fuck with the sound..for base I eather use a boobase or i filter out my samples and clown them and make it have a base sound,,mabey synths on top
u have to set the sounds to the mono setting thats how i get em to play back like that
good price . good luck with it!
@thatguytrynadosumn just start chopping up samples, then lay some drums first or vice versa. you need a pc to export your beats to. only the 4000 has a cd drive
thx Chuck Strangers
the razor phone on the ground was the ish back in the day
Do you put all of your programs into one file? I mean like 32 programs for your beats in a .Aps file
Dis shit is DOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no problem man
throw that hi hat away....lol good beat man
Yo greenz34 great post, but I gotta ask what is the EXACT name of the song from 0:00-0:55 and what artist(s) are on that song and who produced it that shit IZZZ DOPE. It is really one of the best beats I've heard in awhile
Cool
Nice
you should use a program like audacity or acoustica audio mixer..and zoom in on the sample and cut it at the points u want...
thx for video

hence the mpc renaissance
***** Will consider it. They still make MPCs correct?

Dope as fuuuuh

I been making beats with pc for years I’m actually looking into upgrading to one of them
@401life DO IT, jus picked up a loaded MPC 2000xl the other day aka MAX memory, 8 outs, cf installed, already in love!!
that beat was pretty dope. do you have a soundcloud or anything like that?
chuck strangers. youll find him
I heard it was possible to install a device to enable use of a flash drive.
can you do step recording? is there a step recording grid on the screen?
I was thinking the same thing
how do you add samples, what file format do you need and how is it done?
Good tutorial... would be a lot better if you explained where/how you import the samples!!
Of everything i could of noticed, that chair, i have one in my studio.
Hey Bro, you're dope! Canvas work in the near future?
what is the name of the beat at the beginning???
