MPC 2000 AUTO CHOP 1. make sure you have your sample selected 2. shift + 6 to open the program menu. 3. in programs hit f2 for parameters. 4. highlight decay and hit open window. 5. change the level to 0 and the start to 100 then close. 6. while in programs change your overlap to "mono" or "note off" 7. go to main screen and hit the sample u want to chop on "velocity" in the 16 levels mode. it's the button right under "full level" to the left of pad 1 then turn on. 8. now u got chops. 9. you can also tweak the chop start time by adjusting the start values.
this tip was everything to me. got my 2000 classic on New Years Eve 2009. the randomness of some of the chops is also a great tool because the start time is something you'd never pick and opens up many paths
The best explanation of this feature ever for the MPC2000 Classic. Some say this couldn't be done and I have suffered years until this explanation. Thanks, brotha.
man this is really creative, i just picked up a 2000 to give my 3000 a break (her tact switches are going out), so im used to manual chops anyhow, but this is dope i like it better than the auto on the newer mpcs has a different feel too. loving the 2000 so far has the track mute as well hidden.
omg i got a big smile on my face. Sick sample... all the people out there said you can't auto chop on the 2000 and i thought to sell my MPC 2000 and go buying the XL Version. But - you changed my mind with this. Probs and thank you from germany
the point of this video is to show you how to get an auto chop style chop using the 16 levels velocity option without actually getting difference in velocity by fixing the velocity through the programs menu. dante lewis, man i have to say thank you for this insight. this trick led me to make a dope motherfucking beat today. did you know that by using mute assign you can auto chop 2 or more samples and lay them one at a time into the same pattern to get more intricate patterns...
Yo you got mad equipment like you said I saw you on the mv 8000 also! Good vid I'm going to let my homeboy with the 2000 know about your tutorial. I got the 2000xl peace!
Hey man, I have a mpc500, tried and it works there also! The chops are not at the time that I want (probably because of having 12 and not 16 pad), but its useful to use with some types of sample! Nice tip ;)
bro i do the same shit, i hate auto chop really. i just sample each part i want and edit accordingly. although it takes alot of time, i still feel its the best way.
very informative i just got my mpc 2000 and bruah i cant wait to bless the air waves,i be checking your vids thanks for the info where can i get @ you for some walkthrough type ish.peace
This was too easy. I never had a problem activating this chop function. Anyone having problems with it go back and review the steps. I've been chopping samples like that since '09.
exactly.... this is for those who don't want to chop that way and want it done automatically. i know you can do it using the math in zn edit. but some people are lazy.
call me stupid but i never new you could auto chop on the xl and i had mine for ever.i slice the sample so i can edit each pad pretty much the same deal.
Cool its working but hmmm... precisely is there a way to make the chops on time with the beat? Id like my chops to start up either with the kickdrum, the snare or the hi-hat when i hit the pads... Iz dat possible with the technic shown or you'd need to do it manually in my case??
Is the auto-chop supposed to chop the sample into 16 pieces so you can trigger the sample in 16 different positions, and can you adjust the volume on the pads to make them all equal?
Hey Dante thanks for posting this but I'm stuck at 3;20. When I push the "16 Levels" button nothing happens. Does that mean it's already on 16 levels? Thanks much.
nope... i followed every step... many times... it cuts every sample out of order. the end of my 2 bar loop STARTS at pad 16. thanks for the advice though
hmm okeii ! but another question do u know how i export my hole song drums and the sample ??? should i save this on the floppy disc ? but i dont know how because on my floppy disk there are the diffrent drum samples i use! im a beginner :S thx a lot
what up, my dude. Try to make sure the sample is a loop and try to do the sample trick. Make the sample loop in trim mode and then try to do the chop trick. ~1~

@Siqari סיקארי Each one teache one
I heard "MySpace" and I was like, "Oh, no, I'm leaving. This is too old." The information is timeless though, great vid!
"Yo chris! Hold this camera"
This is the most ghetto video ever and it's hilarious but also really helpful and strait forward with the info. dope.
Cooper Lee Why it got to be ghetto?
@Cooper Lee How is it ghetto? How do your videos look, lollipop? LOL
Hold the camera? Thats ghetto?
this tip was everything to me. got my 2000 classic on New Years Eve 2009. the randomness of some of the chops is also a great tool because the start time is something you'd never pick and opens up many paths
I have been using the MPC2000 for 25 years, and you just changed my life...

the point of this video is to show you how to get an auto chop style chop using the 16 levels velocity option without actually getting difference in velocity by fixing the velocity through the programs menu.

Yo you got mad equipment like you said I saw you on the mv 8000 also! Good vid I'm going to let my homeboy with the 2000 know about your tutorial. I got the 2000xl peace!
This is a pretty sick workaround...
Dude you just saved me a ton of money with this video lol
if you select open windo on the tempo metronome options will be available...
@Food4Rappers it does work on mpc 1000... i just tried it on mines.
Hey man, I have a mpc500, tried and it works there also! The chops are not at the time that I want (probably because of having 12 and not 16 pad), but its useful to use with some types of sample! Nice tip ;)
your welcome... more mpc videos are coming soon.
Funny, i haven't used my 2000 classic in 10 years. I just pulled out now .. i forgot how to auto until now.. thqnks
bro i do the same shit, i hate auto chop really. i just sample each part i want and edit accordingly. although it takes alot of time, i still feel its the best way.
this is a auto chop trick you are right and the mpc "2000" doesn't allow you to chop in 16's via zone edit. but thanks for your input.
damn this is dope! never thought my 2k would chop automatically lol but too bad we cant edit each chop but its great stuff bro!
Damn! I never knew that it could do that!
Good lookin' out.
word up!
more vids coming soon stay tuned.
how can i manically chop and assign to each pad ?
Use zone edit
try messin with the start values. instead of having it at 100. maybe move it to 80 or 90. thats the only form of editing i know with this feature.
very informative i just got my mpc 2000 and bruah i cant wait to bless the air waves,i be checking your vids thanks for the info where can i get @ you for some walkthrough type ish.peace

Depends on how you want to record it. Sometimes all you need is a pair of headphones.
call me stupid but i never new you could auto chop on the xl and i had mine for ever.i slice the sample so i can edit each pad pretty much the same deal.
@dave2000xl thanks for watching...
you need a interface or a recorder to dump the music from the mpc... floppy just stores midi data and samples.
this is a very old video... i have a fully functional studio now... i was using a tascam at the time.
Yo Bruh please give me more insight on the auto chop what makes the feature dope !!!! Pls I'm thirsty for knowledge
nice trick.. thanks G
thank you
Bless King 1
thank you.
Thanks!
could you say a little more about how to assign the mutes?
@UrbanCrunkMovement ...could you instruct me on how to do that please
@MrDirtdevil91 yeah i got the 8 outs and max memory thats all tho...
Cool its working but hmmm... precisely is there a way to make the chops on time with the beat? Id like my chops to start up either with the kickdrum, the snare or the hi-hat when i hit the pads... Iz dat possible with the technic shown or you'd need to do it manually in my case??
@Food4Rappers yeah i tried it on my 1000...
Don't know if anyone else had this issue but when I press 16 levels nothing happens...any idea why?
i think you have to enable it.
yeah im a genius....i kid i kid.
but your welcome man. more videos on the way stay tuned.
that sample is sick, what is it?
yo blow really hard into the button. mine was doing the same thing its just dusty.
Is the auto-chop supposed to chop the sample into 16 pieces so you can trigger the sample in 16 different positions, and can you adjust the volume on the pads to make them all equal?
i just purchased a mpc 2000 im just wondering the easiest way to get some drum kits onto please help with advice or tips
Thanku bro
no problem!
your welcome bro...
the 2000 will only spread ur sample to all 16 pads right with volume differences right? while the xl will actually chop it into bits and spread it?
Hey Dante thanks for posting this but I'm stuck at 3;20. When I push the "16 Levels" button nothing happens. Does that mean it's already on 16 levels? Thanks much.
@Dante Lewis okei thx. what sort of interface ive got an audio interface bur lt i dont know how that sould work xD
Hey bro, can you tell me how to get my metronome started on my mpc 2000
yeah man.
Are you still using the 2000? Since this video is old
Dante, are there any similar algorithms similar to this for use with an MPC5000?
is your mpc floppy or zip???? they have tons of places online who sell drumkits for both.
@carbonizado thanks cuz...
nope... i followed every step... many times... it cuts every sample out of order. the end of my 2 bar loop STARTS at pad 16. thanks for the advice though
is a mixer a must have when u produce with a mpx 2000 xl ??
@mrsonnyredd1 no problem..
yes.. or a audio interface.
I don't what drum machine to get, can you help? What brand should I get! Mv or mpc
hmm okeii ! but another question do u know how i export my hole song drums and the sample ??? should i save this on the floppy disc ? but i dont know how because on my floppy disk there are the diffrent drum samples i use!
im a beginner :S
thx a lot
thanx beeeee
you would have to do it manually... i stated in the video its not very precise.
thanks cuz...
yeah u to use mute assign so the samples wont cluster together. send me yur number through message and i'll walk you through it.
yo this vid is needed 2 thumbs up yo!!!!!
Does that also work on the MPC 4000?
the 4000 already has auto chop feature. no need for this process.
what is that in the top right corner?
just for programming... no sequencing.
what up, my dude. Try to make sure the sample is a loop and try to do the sample trick. Make the sample loop in trim mode and then try to do the chop trick. ~1~
great way auto auto chop on those brain freeze day....
Plus all the samples start at the sample start point... ummm what am i doing wrong
dilla style ! black milk, MPC !! (:
