    Today I try and run the Tri-ang R.152 Class 08 Diesel Shunter at a scale speed on the Tri-ang Super 4 layout. The aim is to get the loco around the Downward Mainline at a scale speed of 15 MPH or less. Watch to see how I get on with this challenge. Thanks for looking.

    That had me on the edge of my seat Jonathan. Like others, I am amazed that you pulled it off. Now if you could re-gear it to run at that speed with the controller on full just imagine the slow shunting you could do. A side effect of scale running is that it makes the layout seem larger than it is.
    If the object of model/toy trains is to have fun then you have certainly met the criteria and thank you for sharing this with us.
    Thank you also for the great compliments in mentioning me and my channel.

      Hello David, I'm pleased you enjoyed this. I can't wait for you to see the results from the Tri-ang and H & M Clippers. I've been on the look out for Romford or similar gear conversion sets but have yet to find any. All the best to you

    Thanks for posting this . That proves that this particular 08 vintage Triang loco is capable of performing at scale speeds every bit as good as today's highly detailed and overly expensive 08 models .

    I thought you were going to say " Its crossed the Melling Road and it's over to Michael O'Hare " On a serious note you have done amazing to run a 50 year old toy engine at scale speed 😁

    That little shunter even sounded like a Jocko growling along. Fabulous testament to your railway and your refurbished points and crossings that you got that 50+ year old Triang loco around the layout effortlessly.

    Impressive slow speed , especially over the diamonds . Must have a look at Mikes video, seem to have missed that one . Would be interesting to see the AL1 at 100mph to see what that looks like . Ha ha it’s like ships on the measured mile on the Clyde , except they were seeing how fast they could go.

    That was so involving. The 08 is a real star. Not even a stutter over the diamond crossings, she just chugged on regardless. It also goes to show how good Super 4 diamond crossings and points can be. Do you dare to try other locos? 😊👍

    Good morning Mr Snooze great demonstration of what can be done absolutely amazing running on the track. Is that shunter the one with you have fitted with the ball race? I think it makes a real difference to warm the models up to achieve these type of speeds plus a little load for the motor to work against.
    Thanks again really enjoyed the video looking forward to the next one.
    Oscar

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  3 роки тому

      Hello Oscar, This is the R.152 with one ball race but I don't think there would be a difference with a well maintained original motor. The advantage of the ball race primarily seems to be a noise reduction from tests I've conducted so far. Warming up always seems to improve running on these older locos, and as you say a little load on the drawbar helps the drive wheels bite the track I think. Thanks for watching and all the best to you

    Very well done - a tribute to the quality of your track refurbishment and laying. I can't help wondering how it would do with an H&M Duette or Clipper on the high resistance and/or half wave rectified settings?

      Hello Robin, another person commented on controller choice so I've tried Tri-ang and H & M Clippers. astonishing results from both so keep an eye out for an update video. All the best to you

    All due to modern power unit try using a RP18 /13 triang unit for this test for accuracy .

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  3 роки тому +1

      Good afternoon Bertie, I agree that modern power units were perhaps the wrong choice for this test and may have enhanced the result. With that in mind I tried the Tri-ang RP - 13 as you suggested and Clipper. All I can say is they blew the Gaugemaster out of the water. The Meccano Marshall 3 did surprisingly well too. Will post an update video soon. All the best to you

    I Just bought one of these from a carboot at 2 Quid, the thing was sprayed black has broken buffer beams on the front and didn't run until i serviced it. Still Doesn't run great but i have all the chassis disassembled and time to clean everything

      Great to hear you picked up a bargain. If you don't have a method of remagnetising the motor you might get better running with a neo magnet, just a thought. Best regards to you
