Is this something that only works for audio playing externally or can you set up the "loop" through the headphones and switch to the other channel quietly?
My god. If you pull this off in a dire moment you deserve to see somebody’s boobs. That’s a great trick thx, hopefully one day I can use it to be a hero and see those boobs
@@ddarhe i tried it, it doesn't switch over. I read in the comments below (the thread by @T-Dubbie Dubb) and according to that it can only change if the channels are in line mode, but since you have 4 decks, you can just load the song you want to add the roll on a spare channel and use it to add samples on the main songs you're playing
Really sick trick! I was wondering how you pulled it off in another video. Thanks for sharing! This is a great use of a channel that would otherwise go unused unless I was using my laptop or another device.
I really liked the explanation and approach. Quite a unique use of the Roll FX. Question. what course would be suitable if I play on Pioneer 3000 + DJM-900NXS2 Mixer? My style of music - deep house, organic house, tech house. Interested in effectively using Effects on the DJM-900NXS2 to unleash my creative potential. I’ve tried this but it looses the sync super fast. For example, recording a 4 beat loop and sending it to another channel, the loop starts moving faster or slower and I can’t use it for more than 16 beats, for example
@@danielbarrell7008 as long as you leave the effect switched on once you record the sample it will keep the same sample in a buffer memory until you switch the effect button off. You can bring it in and out of a mix using the dry/wet knob on the mixer. So you can bring your roll onto any channel you want

That's a marketing decision. If that was the case they wouldn't sell as much DJM900 and CDJ 2000 Nexus 2. From a comercial perspective it does make sense as the all in one unit costs 1/3 of the price of the full nexus setup.
has anyone solved the issue of the beat drift when using the roll effect on cdj3000s/DJM900nxs2 or DJMA9? Crossfader do you have any clues on this please?

The DDJ 400 can't output more than 2 channels sadly. This trick can work with roll but you can’t switch it to a spare channel. You will have to keep it in channel 1 or 2.

I really love your videos. So creative! I am planning to trade my Roland 707M for the Pioneer ddj 1000 SRT. Although I like the compact size, I don't really need the portability that the 707M offers and I find the fact that you have to go through button pushing and knob turning to assign the on-board effects or change them on the unit. I am really impressed with the Pioneer ddj 1000SRT, and I am already getting the XP2 so that I will have access to the Serato effects as well. I did see a comment that said that this trick will work on the 1000SRT. I went to the link for the Pitch Effect Trick, and was wondering if that will work on the 1000SRT also. I can't afford any of the X models at this point in time. I really like the stuff you come up with and as soon as I get my rig figured out, I plan to take some of your classes. Thanks!
After you have recorded the loop and switched it over to new channel, will the loop still play in the new channel if you change the song on the original channel?
Nice trick! One thing I dont get: How does the looped sample switch channels (5:30)? I can see that channel 1 is receiving gain JUST as you pull down the volume on channel 1.
So the recorded sample can be switched over to any spare channel after its recorded in. This is done earlier in the walkthrough. Then at 5:30 all I’m doing is playing the original song again on channel 2 while pulling down fader on channel 1 (the recorded sample).
Please help me out. When I try this trick on my RX2, after I switch the roll loop to the aux channel, it always goes out of sync with the other channels pretty fast. Why does this happen? It's as if the the Beat fx bpm is not correct, but it is on auto mode and quantize. Am I doing something wrong?
That's strange, maybe try tapping the tap button once so it switches to manual bpm mode before activating the effect and then switch it over. See if that helps. It should stay in time though....
I use this so much and now the Denon's have it too (but it is unreliable as it anchors its bpm to a deck). Why doesn't every platform have this effect and anchor it to the master bpm!?!? This basically is removing much of the need for a third deck let alone a forth for the vast majority of DJs.
There is a roll effect on the ddj 1000 however I would probably recommend using the roll on channel 3 for example and leaving it on that channel as a sub layer. I think the ddj-1000 won’t switch it over to an empty channel unless you activate the channel as a line output rather than usb.
@ ok here is how I figured it out so far.......the only way that I can do that is if any channel is selected to line mode and I apply the effect to any channel ( only switched to line mode) the effect will follow but if I do the same test let's say I use channel 2 and select USB A ( which that's what my computer is connected to) now I can't carry the effect over to another channel (even if the channel is on line mode)
I would recommend because your controller already has access to 4 decks and 4 channels, load the song you want to sample and record in on channel 3 for example, record it in and leave it on channel 3. You still have the other channels available to continue mixing etc.
The ddj-400 doesn’t have 4 channels on the controller itself so you wouldn’t be able to switch the roll sample you’ve recorded o to channel 3 for example on the controller. But you could still use the roll as demonstrated and keep it on channel 2 for example.
