I gave up on SmartCrates as often the mp3 metadata is actually incorrect. So i just do it manually now. Im quite religious about how i maintain serato. So i generally download tracks throughout the week. Then on a sunday night i import them into Serato. Set all my Hot Queues as per my standard for every track, then move them to each Crate as applicable. I then make a fresh Serato Backup and also my main Music structure is also backed up to my NAS unit. And my NAS unit also sync's with the Cloud as well. You can never have too many backups !.
I hate the idea of having all of the music go to the Serato folder (like the actual files... > Imported). I just wish all functionality worked if you placed a shortcut to the actual files in the Auto Import folder. It does in fact work, but it updates the date added of every track to the current day each time you open serato.
Crossfader are usually exceptionally good with tech tips, but this seems like a terrible idea. Over time your files would become a complete mess. What if you use other DJ software? You’d have to tell Rekordbox (etc.) to find your music in the Serato folder? Just keep an organised folder structure, then drag and drop into Serato, so easy! It’s because of these types of ‘hacks’ that DJs end up with missing files in software and also makes backups a problem because files are located in random folders.
This is more for the user who never organises their downloads folders. We do recommend using a clean organisation method for sorting physical files but for those Serato only users with a full downloads folder this method not only cleans up their web browsing but also imports every single track rather than songs being lost in the downloads folder and never imported. If you're using another software it's literally no different to having the files still in your downloads folder, just import them from the Serato/Imported folder rather than User/Downloads
@@Crossfader Then lets not reinforce this with some hackish work around. Make a video on how to properly organize your music so that in the case of catastrophe you do not loose all the hard work of creating creates.
Why would I want to load My mp3 music files into the AutoImport folder and slow my computer down when I have an external SSD hard which I have connected to Serato?
doesnt actually slow down your computer having music directly on the laptop especially if you have a internal ssd you just made the laptop do like 5 steps instead of 2 using an external drive and the power required to power the drive from the usb
Very helpful video for some. Question, do the files from Latest Import physically get removed from that crate when moving them to your own crates in serato? Or will the track stay in the latest import crate?
This is a great hack!! Is it possible to set this up also with iTunes? So whatever is downloaded through I tunes will be automatically added and sorted?
Great tutorial. Quick question. What do I do with the other music that I have downloaded? I dont want to have different files. Should I import them into auto import?
Question..... does it copy the music to say an external drive? i dont keep music on my actual laptop. Or is there way to specify the location of the Auto Import folder? thanks
This automates the process and is more suited to people who don't manually organise their music. If you're using iTunes or another method you'll be best off sticking with that method!
Looking to try Serato, but am finding that I might miss a very useful feature from RekordBox: can anyone tell me if Serato has something similar to RB's "Related Tracks", where it will suggest tracks to play next, based on the current track's key and tempo?
I started doing it this way but the old files from 4 days ago refreshed as new files is there a reason why?Or do i have to manually remove them at the end of each session
So if u get them to the imported crate automatically, when does the subcrate come in? Songs are not saved in the subcrate. Never used sub crates thats why im confused.
I save my music on a secondary drive on my laptop. The "_serato_" folder on that drive doesn't have the auto import folder. If I create one there, will my music import the same way?
Can you guys do a video on downloading music on to your hard drive then linking it to serato I am kind of confused on what would be the easiest way to do that or if anyone can send me to a video I haven’t been able to find one
@@charlesleeray1873 Dude i was having this issue with music on internal HDD on Destktop and a portable HDD i used for Laptop. Serato installed on both Machines and my Folders would always mess up depending on what machine i used last and if i used the portable HDD with it or not. So after much messing about with making a Copy of the PC or Laptops _Serato in the Music folder and the _Serato folder on EACH HDD i had Music on every time i exited Serato and then remembered to use the Correct _Serato Folders on each HDD i had connected every time i opened Serato my Files/Folder structure displayed inside Serato would mess up. What i ended up doing in the end was just only use Serato with Music installed and linked to my Portable HDD so no matter what instal on what machine i used I would plug my portable HDD into it, Launch Serato and it would always use the Same Music Library on my Portable HDD which negated the need to constantly keep various copy's of _Serato folders corrected labelled across multiple instals and HDD's which was/is a total and utter Ball Ache.
Since the music files move from the “auto import” folder to the “latest import” folder, I assume it refreshes once in awhile to only show the most recent downloads? Where do those song files actually live after the fact?
You'd be surprised how many users never move music out of their downloads folders. True this hack isn't for people who like to keep a clean and organised file structure but for those who have a downloads folder full of music, this is a nice time saver.
Jay Nichol how much trouble would it cause really? Just curious. I’m that guy, as of recent, but I think with a days worth of work things could be brought back under control.
Dj Prince you can do that with smart crates too. So, why would it matter if your folder full of music is huge? I mean, we’re not talking windows 95 levels of computation here.

Excuse me sir quick question, HOW do you backup new songs you add on to an external hard drive but in the same way you organize in serato crates?
@@dj_laylow I use Degoo and the Degoo client on my laptop. It backs up everything in realtime as and when things get changed or added.

Does auto import work with external hard drives
This is my question
yes if you do it in the _Serato folder on the external. You can also add shortcuts to the actual folder on the external.
This would be hard to use for multi genre DJ, don’t you think?
Why? Just tag your files and use Genres and Smart Crates.
Smart crates my friend.
amazing trick ! helpful and saving a huge time ! if you drag a folder album, does it appear as a subcrates into the Latest Import crate?
Great tips thanks!!!

Can Serato Pro recommend tracks based off BPM / Key similar to Rekordbox capabilities?

Does this work with Rekordbox DJ as well?
Sadly not
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think RB can do it. I've certainly not found a way to do it. Of course, Holland will jump on now and prove me wrong!
