Wow, never seen a table of characters so viciously turn on each other at the end. Huge credit to both Becca Scott and Josephine for playing non-heroic, not noble but very believably petty characters!
I'm running Dead Light in a few weeks! It is short but it packs a punch! Despite its simplicity, the adventure outcomes appear to be wildly variable. :)
Getting ready to run this Scenario for my yearly Halloween Special. Really looking forward to running it/ putting my players up against the Dead lights.
As ever, thanks for the playthrough. Great content for contemplating running the adventure (obviously paired with Seth Skorkowsky's review!). For me, I'd probably lean into the isolated setting and sanity mechanics a little more to draw the walls in and intensify the vulnerability of the PCs in the face of an unknowable alien horror. And the slow realisation of the human tragedy of all those dead babies… but, I can only just imagine how tough it must be streaming an excellently produced one-shot to time constraints, and with an online cast. And the characters ended up totally messed up. They were quite a bit bigger than the adventure… sort of like Fiasco does Call of Cthulhu… which works better for viewers of a televised drama. …and in the bizarre tapestry of questionable accents this wasn't an I. Y. Yunioshi, but it made me think of Mickey Rooney more than Dick van Dyke. It's a fine line, isn't it?
What in god’s name is Jasmine’s accent, cus it sure as hell ain’t any English accent I’ve ever heard! It’s like drunk Dick Van Dyke by way of Crocodile Dundee.
Bit of feedback for the keeper (of course this is my opinion only): too much of repeat sentences from the NPCs. I understand that they were freaked out but four five times of the same sentence is wearing/annoying. Actually had me say “omg, shut up!” Which I normally don’t do. There is a line between building suspense & annoying repeat. Just a thought.
I wanted to find the inspiration and prepare my own Deadlight game by listening to this stream, but gave up 35 minutes in because of the active derailing of some players preventing any atmosphere to settle. Shame.
No need to mention how unbearable Jasmine was, but I would like to add that Becca's character would make allot of sense... if it was inflicted with temp. insanity with an addiction to tea. Otherwise, great show!
I generally like Jasmine/Bronze Girl but I have to admit she was wearing on me and I never thought I'd say this but if I was playing Call of Cthulhu, I wouldn't want her at my table. If I was trying to get into the creepy mood of a CoC scenario and "Jasmine the Cockney Clown" kept yucking it up next to be, I'd probably have to hand her a stfu after a while.
@@mikesands4681 Yeah, joking around at the table is normal and I'm not a guy who is intense about keeping the mood all the time but that was excessive.
The Keeper was too lenient. I run this scenario with three players and, while they survived, none of them will be operational for some time. The Dead Light attacked relentlessly. Inside the cottage they had one round before the windows on one side shattered and people were wounded by the flying glass. This is what should have happened here. They were chased while in the car, attacked in the diner… It was almost “Aliens” in a way, or “The Mist”. Here, the characters had too much time on their hands. The title of the scenario is “Dead Light”, not “Quarreling Characters”. Have the Dead Light attack while they are quarreling. Make it violent, unstoppable. Windows shatter, furniture is overturned, characters scatter… It must be very clear that the main goal is survival at any cost. You can’t have a “Dead Light” scenario where the main monster is a sideshow.
I'm running this one shot for new players tomorrow, so this comment was really helpful. I was planning on having the players stick around the diner until the dead light force them out, maybe scare the dead light away with a power line getting knocked over in the wind with sparks flying everywhere
@@SpencerTheBard Don't forget the hypnotic effect that the Dead Light has on human minds and use it to the maximum. Just looking at it is dangerous: you literally risk to become a deer in the headlights while the creature moves towards you. This is a scary monster on multiple levels.
I'm fairly sure they wanted to give these actors time to... Act :-) there's no right or wrong way to run an adventure, it can be different every time you run it based on the group and their desires. :-)
There's no "right way" to play coc or this scenario. The number one goal is to have fun. If that's a deadly relentless chase, then do that for you, but don't act like this is how everyone should play it.
Good lord, Jasmine's relentlessly unfunny din was unbearable about 20 seconds in. If the aim was to constantly disrupt any mood or atmosphere, she was rolling 01s all game long.
Agree with this completely. Love Jasmine, big fan of her DMing, but she just doesn't want to lean into any other tone than 'fun times!'. Really jarring in CoC.
I would like to have seen the regular stream of chaos group do this scenario. These cringy, over the top players are why i stopped watching DnD streams.
Exactly. They are barely letting the Keeper to tell the story, or show any interest in it, its like they are only interested in their own agenda. Except the guys.
The two sisters are terrible. Too a point it just gets totally unrealistic and overplayed. I dont mind people playing unlikeable characters, but there is a line and its crossed far too much.

Then you should watch any reality TV program like Love Island 😁
Entertaining. Well done Keeper Brian on managing such a varied bunch of characters and keeping the story moving.
Keeper: "I thought you were heroically saving Lloyd." Katherine: "No."
LOL!
IN case you were curious, the Rubix Cube was not publicly available until 1970's, however, metal wire puzzles were in circulation back then
audio issues are the true cosmic horror
Poor Alex I can literally feel the frustration coming off of him 😂
I was getting a strong "Reservoir Dogs" vibe there at the end. Who needs the monster when you have this crew? :D
Friendship is eldritch horror.
The real monsters were the friends we made along the way.
I emphasize strongly with Alexander. Kudos for restraining his (understandable) frustration that much😅

The Kennington siblings were just so much fun. Absolutely beautiful! Those two are SUCH iconic duos
This was Carry On Cthulhu
Fantastic! Very entertaining and convinced me to run this scenario.

How did it go?
@@inurisan They didn't make it.
Wow! These are All Stars!

Bernard was amazing.

Excellent game All Star crew. 🐙😁
I don’t get why so many people are bitching about the voices. It adds character, not all COC had to doom and gloom.
I'm trying so hard to make it to the end but dam that one person keeps taking me out of it.

That ending. 🤣
I wonder if Amelia still had the check book and $200 on her.
We may never know...
Are you of breeding?..... LoL Alex... going Oh my God...😂
This game was hilarious! More like an Horror comedy lol
Oh, that's supposed to be rain... I thought the keeper just had an incredibly atrocious mic when he was introducing the show.

Running Dead Lights today.
Came for inspiration. Left due to Jasmine's annoying voice and scene chewing.

honestly thanks for this. Really good advice.

Well said. She made this difficult to watch. The rest of it was fantastic though.
Definitely not the heroes of this scenario

It is the influencers. So many of them spend the whole session just chewing the scenery for attention.

Oof i can’t even deal with that awful accent. Gotta bail on this episode 🤦♂️
