In the end, he got so frustrated that he decided to return to what he enjoyed the most, live on-stage performances, & he did a Comeback Special in 1968, which has some wonderful singing & yes, some dancing too. Elvis invented dancing while singing. Nobody had done that before, & those moves he did on the Ed Sullivan show in 1956, when Elvis was just 21, enraged older people. They saw him as a threat to their children, with all his ‘gyrating’ & ‘hip-swivelling’ dance movements, which to young women were raw sexuality that they had never been exposed to in such a way. Singers back then, stood still when they sang, & might have played guitar. And that was it. Then along came this incredibly handsome, 6ft tall, highly-likeable young man with a hairstyle they had never seen before, & a clothes-sense displaying individuality, & he shot to almost overnight superstardom. But viewers of this televised show, were so outraged, that from then on, when Elvis performed for television, he was only filmed from the waist up, which frustrated him & made him rebellious. But he refused to perform any other way. He also refused to succumb to segregation laws, publicly enjoying the company of black singers, because he had been raised in a very poor black community & his friends were the other black children, & of course, he was influenced by black music he heard all around him as a young child. Ed Sullivan here completely different from the first time Elvis was on his show, Ed didn't want him but was overruled and he showed his displeasure in his introduction to Elvis. Then after another later performance he came on and praised Elvis on how he was a real nice boy and a pleasure to have him on his show. This overturned people's perspective of Elvis and he became accepted. Ed Sullivan did a lot for Elvis...
Since seeing the Elvis movie 5 times and waiting for it to be released on bluray, I've been watching every Elvis reaction I can find. I'm 45 so I'm too young to have been around when he was alive but I still grew up on him because my Mom has his records. I didn't care about what was cool in the 80s, to me Elvis was everything. What is so hard for people today to comprehend, is that until Elvis came out no one moved like that. No one sang like that. No one showed enjoyment and having fun on stage performing, and no one really toured. Artists like Perry Como and Bing Crosby, who were the top of the charts right at the time Elvis came out, would put their records out and perform on the variety shows, and that would be it. Elvis's overwhelming demand created what we now know of as a "tour" for rock bands today simply because so many people wanted to see Elvis. That had never happened before. The older generation didn't know what to make of him or his music. But the kids...... every girl wanted him and every guy wanted to be him. He was the first star that both sexes found appealing.
GD he was a god. I've been a fan since I was 4 years old. I LOVE that people keep discovering him and why is KING. As John Lennon said "Before anyone did anything, Elvis did everything". He is a legend and an everlasting dreamboat
The only two acts that brought this level of excitement were Elvis and the Beatles. That’s it. Later, MJ got pretty darn close (save it-I know he was up there), but that’s it. Those three. That’s the Mount Rushmore. May be others (Dylan, Sinatra, the Stones, Queen, The Beach Boys, etc), but in my opinion, those three acts experienced a level of fame noone else did. Had people passing out, having to be carted off on stretchers, and couldn’t go out in public without being absolutely harassed. Don’t know if I’d want that.
"This man could dance, this man could sing, this man had it all!" You are spot on. This was a fab performance of a classic track. He was 21 in 1956 and he had the world at his feet. As you can hear from the screaming, TV was live - no autotune and no do-overs if you messed up. It's 2021 so it's difficult to appreciate the impact that he had at that time; the only thing I can say is that nobody had ever seen anything like Elvis before. I really enjoyed your warm reaction. It's good to see younger people reacting to Elvis.
One of the things I loved about Elvis was his humour, he never really took himself seriously, often laughing at himself. And that's very sexy. He wasn't what I would call dancer but he could certainly move. And did.
He was such a shy person if u can believe that but somehow changed onstage...still retaining his humble and fun ways - he never understood why he was SO popular all his life....very spiritual and a deeper person than most realise. Thankyou for the upload 🤟🏼💞 Never seen the full talking bit before & after...plus i LOVE when he goes totally wild like a rag doll ...he never rehearesed, just moved as the music took him...never be another RIP ELVIS u gave ur all 🙏
Now dont forget this is 1956 and the first time Elvis was on tv. After this show they couldn't film him below the waist. The tv executives wouldn't show him again in full frame.
My coworker and her friend saw Elvis perform in St. Louis before he joined the Army, he wore a gold suit. She said the girls screamed so loud she never heard him sing!
How many movies did Elvis Presley appear in? 31 feature films Starting with Elvis' first movie, “Love Me Tender,” Elvis starred in 31 feature films as an actor and two theatrically released concert documentary films, all of which enjoyed financial success.
You have no idea how much women loved Elvis. He was the world,'s sex symbol until he died and still excites women.People who knew or met him all said he was the most gorgeous, sexiest man they ever saw.Everyone said that including men.Nobody has ever come close to Elvis Presley. Crowds would rush the stage, toppling it and Elvis and band had to run for their lives. On more than one occasion fans cornered him and ripped off all his clothes leaving only one sock and onr shoe.Once a big woman got on stage , knocking him down.In excitement, she straddled him and urinated on him. On another instance, women cornered him and tried to rape him. They bit and scratched him , pulled out his hair.On one occasion he had so many bite marks and scratches that he had to go to the hospital for treatment. These stories are just a tip of the ice berg.Once a couple of fans had themselves mailed to his house, housed as a dog in a crate. You can imagine what jealous men did.Elvis had nightmares about running for his life from fans, which he often had to do. But as you can see, Elvis in real life was about having fun.People said he was the most fun being around him..jokes, lavish pranks, laughter always Elvis laughing till he died.Everybody just loved him.He was good and kind..such a wonderful man.
The First Time He Was On This Show. They Would Try & Just Show Upper Waist. He Really Held Back In This Show Appearance & He Made A Little Funny Showing That. Yep He had To Hold Back A Lot In Those Days. I Loved Him & Still Do. Thank You For Showing Him #HOG
ELVIS AND ED SULLIVAN: Because Elvis had that something that was NEVER introduced to the world before in music .... And truly most anything seen or watched by the public before .... It took most everyone by surprise .... The teenagers loved it .... Parents hated it as they thought as the main stream media told them to think .... { As it does now .... Trying to keep people Dumb-Down .... Saying that it was the Devils work } .... The city councils and Mayors and Governors .... And in Jersey city and others .... All wanted That kind of music stopped .... However .... Elvis was not to be stopped as he was the Jennie .... That they just could not put back in the bottle .... { No matter how much they tried } .... Elvis had complete control of his style and his fans .... So when he would do songs or shows or make records .... They would fly of the shelf .... As people bought every one that was made ....People could not get enough .... Well .... The teenagers.... { NOT THE PARENTS } .... Yet ....Then something great happened for the world and Elvis himself ....ED Sullivan open the flood gates for Elvis .... That was the turning point for not only Elvis .... But for the world .... When Ed said { He was a fine decent boy } .... That was when Elvis was now given the green light for the Parents to like the boy to .... The TV man himself gave the go ahead with those words ...Back then what Ed said go's He was the older generations leader in the world of entertainment .... If he said you were OK .... You were OK .... And that changed the Older generations look upon Elvis .... And at that moment in time .... They both knew it .... See Ed was forced to put Elvis on his show .... He did not want to .... Ed like everyone heard bad things about Elvis .... But Ed knew others were going to put Elvis on their stage .... So Ed needed to put him on his .... Ed was very worried that he did a bad thing .... But after spending time with Elvis .... He found Elvis .... Was a very kind decent human being .... So Ed .... Being a fine person himself .... Gave the Okay-D okay for Elvis ....THEN MUSIC WORLD STARTED KICKING OUT WITH SOME UNBELIEVABLE MUSIC .... THE BANDS WERE GETTING BETTER .... THE SINGERS WERE GETTING BETTER .... THE SOUND WAS GETTING BETTER .... THEN .... IT HAPPENED .... The corrupted Deep State wanted to control it all .... Just as the music world erupted with great music and sound and the money .... O my the money .... Was starting to really roll in .... The Deep State showed up .... The deep state not only wanted the money .... They wanted the power that comes with it .... Remember Elvis come along before the elite { Deep State } Got their grubby hands on the control of the music world as it was basically .... less then zero .... Before Elvis al-most .......... However Elvis was not under their power .... As Elvis had the talent not to fall pray to them .... The Elite .... { Deep State } .... Did not like that....... They did not have power over him ....So they went in to action and ruined the music world by buying up .... Or just plain taking over enough radio stations to gain complete control ........... So for the most part That is why they really stopped playing Elvis much on the radio .... O they did now and then .... to make it look good .... But for the most part .... Not much ....they don't let Elvis on Radio any more once they gained control of enough " Ma and Pa Radio shacks" to control the music you listen to today ....... Which lead to their power control over all the music world .... and it is called { " THE NATIONAL PLAY LIST " }.... Why do you think great music stopped and now we have " Low Vibration" stuff out there now ......... IT'S TO CONTROL YOU AND YOUR THINKING ........ see .......... High Vibration music makes you happy- Joyful- Want to help others and have a great time with your follow man ........... Low Vibration is completely opposite ...... And give them control over your attitude .......... Hey I don't think even speakers were around much in use when he first arrived ........... If even there were many around you could take to concerts ............. And I don't even know if they did concerts like now ........ Dances was the thing back then and used the buildings system then witch I' am sure was not very good then .......... But if there were speakers they must of weighed a ton ........... OK So They Control....... GET IT ..... As I said when Elvis first came on scene there was not a-lot big money in the of the music world .... But once Elvis come along and made it a world of it's own .......... Of-course the Elite { Deep State } .... Showed their ugly heads took over the music world as they do everything ..... Made a fortune on us and in that fortune gained control of every little thing you hear with...... "THE NATIONAL PLAY LIST" SO THEY CAN CONTROL WHAT YOU LISTEN TO AND YOUR ATTITUDE ....... How do you think ..... The so-called-stars of today become famous ..... Because they have backers that come up with enough bread to make them that way that's how ...... Money talks Talent takes a back seat to it ........ As the ELITE .... { Deep State } .... Wants control of everything that has to do with anything that they can control over everyone and everything and not someone with talent like Elvis ....
I watched all the way to the end and loved your reaction to a song that came out one year before I was born, I'm loving reliving all these memories through your eyes and the eyes of other young people on the internet, at first I was scared to even touch a computer, now I'm looking at UA-cam videos, my kids are saying you go Mom!
He enjoyed making them up until around 1965 when they became less appealing and routine and the songs were didn't and kitty level. He said he got physically ill from making those later films. Harum Academy was horrible and he hated it.
Elvis was and is great! Talented, generous, and a great sense of humor. He thought it was hilarious that the girls screamed at his littlest movements, so he would have fun teasing them!
June 5, 1956 Elvis gave American culture "Hond Dog" live on Milton Berle's show; he bumped and grinded and tore the place apart. Make sure you see that version with live footage and live audio!
What is truly amazing about all the screaming is that this is a TV show at a time when the youth culture was just beginning (thanks almost completely to Elvis), so this was not a concert full of teenagers like one of his regular shows. This was a TV show so only a small section of the audience were teenage girls. The great majority of the audience were older people there just to see an Ed Sullivan Show. If that studio would've been packed with teenagers it would've been deafening.
I work at a senior living community and I was talking to one of the residents who is 89 years old. I asked him if he and his wife liked Elvis back in the 50s and he said I couldn’t stand the guy. Too much gyrating 🤣🤣 Said he was more of a Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin fan. It was just cool to talk to someone that would be roughly the same age as Elvis would be.
Thank u for posting this... I've never seen the whole video... this is AWESOME... my mom was 16 when this came out. Obviously she loved ELVIS.. and raised me on Elvis... truly thought I had seen everything.. this is new to me.. thank u
he done an even raunchier version of Hound Dog on the Milton Berle Show. At the end, when the band thought it was all over, Elvis started up a slow and sexy Blues version which almost blew up America. The band didnt know what to do so just joined in as best they could....you gotta watch it!!!
Remember it was the 1950’s and older people and parents were shocked and said Elvis’ dance moves were too sexual and lewd. There was a big move to get him banned because rock and roll was sinful! So after this, they would only televise him from the waist up for awhile until they realized Elvis could not be stopped.
Great reaction! Elvis was, is, and always will be the best entertainer ever!! Ladies and men both enjoyed Elvis. Undeniable talent. You should check out his 68 comeback special version of " Trying to get to you". Thank you for your reaction.
Sponsors went ape shit after this performance and made a big stink to CBS network to never film Elvis again from the waist down and they wanted him off the air entirely. Ed Sullivan was the biggest show on TV and every other television in the nation would be watching on any given night, everyone knew who he was. Ed Sullivan liked Elvis genuinely and gave him one more shot was it was a gospel song Elvis did. Not Rock music. Brilliant move that really stuck it to the sponsors and many other racist folk of the day.... because many were religious too. Elvis was a devout Christian. The sponsors won the battle to get Elvis off the air from the waist down but they lost the war. Elvis would go on to become the greatest selling musician of all time. And new music and musicians and dances would be seen around the country for the very first time...
As simple as this performance looks now, it was a new thing to see such actions on stage, parents hated him as the country was largely conservative christian back then. When Elvis first started many radio stations would not play his records, some stations even stopped playing rock and roll all together and made a big deal out of it - until they saw all the money they were losing and things gradually loosened up.
If you haven't listened to "You Gave Me a Mountain" or "Bridge Over Troubled Water" they are great! Paul Anka said after he heard Elvis sing " Bridge Over Troubled Water" that he could never sing it again because Elvis did it so amazingly! Oh and I think he had 31movies.

And what put Elvis over the top was this song to his mother's peace in The Valley
Elvis made 33 movies in six years. Started out in westerns and then everybody wanted him to sing his music
Elvis starred in thirty one movies
GD he was a god. I've been a fan since I was 4 years old. I LOVE that people keep discovering him and why is KING. As John Lennon said "Before anyone did anything, Elvis did everything". He is a legend and an everlasting dreamboat
Some people just have it! Elvis had it!
IT'S SO GOOD TO HAVE THESE OLD VIDEOS OF ELVIS. LOVE THEM.
This man had it all. Even at that young age his personality drew you in. Vicki
Young elvis bro handsome like a hell ,girls was going crazy
"This man could dance, this man could sing, this man had it all!"
You are spot on.
Elvis made 31 movies and 2 documentrys.
I watched til the end.
I adore Elvis.
Watch Mean Woman Blues and Rock A Hula Baby
I think he was around 21 years old how beautiful and perfect was this
One of the things I loved about Elvis was his humour, he never really took himself seriously, often laughing at himself.
31 feature films
Starting with Elvis' first movie, “Love Me Tender,” Elvis starred in 31 feature films as an actor and two theatrically released concert documentary films, all of which enjoyed financial success.
I was born 7 years later after the airing of this show, same month, different day. We watched Ed Sullivan growing up
ELVIS AND ED SULLIVAN:
Because Elvis had that something that was NEVER introduced to the world
before in music .... And truly most anything seen or watched by the
public before .... It took most everyone by surprise .... The teenagers
loved it .... Parents hated it as they thought as the main stream media
told them to think .... { As it does now .... Trying to keep people
Dumb-Down .... Saying that it was the Devils work } .... The city
councils and Mayors and Governors .... And in Jersey city and others
.... All wanted That kind of music stopped .... However .... Elvis was
not to be stopped as he was the Jennie .... That they just could not put
back in the bottle .... { No matter how much they tried } .... Elvis
had complete control of his style and his fans .... So when he would do
songs or shows or make records .... They would fly of the shelf .... As
people bought every one that was made ....People could not get enough
.... Well .... The teenagers.... { NOT THE PARENTS } .... Yet ....Then
something great happened for the world and Elvis himself ....ED Sullivan
open the flood gates for Elvis .... That was the turning point for not
only Elvis .... But for the world .... When Ed said { He was a fine
decent boy } .... That was when Elvis was now given the green light for
the Parents to like the boy to .... The TV man himself gave the go ahead
with those words ...Back then what Ed said go's He was the older
generations leader in the world of entertainment .... If he said you
were OK .... You were OK .... And that changed the Older generations
look upon Elvis .... And at that moment in time .... They both knew it
.... See Ed was forced to put Elvis on his show .... He did not want to
.... Ed like everyone heard bad things about Elvis .... But Ed knew
others were going to put Elvis on their stage .... So Ed needed to put
him on his .... Ed was very worried that he did a bad thing .... But
after spending time with Elvis .... He found Elvis .... Was a very kind
decent human being .... So Ed .... Being a fine person himself .... Gave
the Okay-D okay for Elvis ....THEN MUSIC WORLD STARTED KICKING OUT WITH
SOME UNBELIEVABLE MUSIC .... THE BANDS WERE GETTING BETTER .... THE
SINGERS WERE GETTING BETTER .... THE SOUND WAS GETTING BETTER .... THEN
.... IT HAPPENED .... The corrupted Deep State wanted to control it all
.... Just as the music world erupted with great music and sound and the
money .... O my the money .... Was starting to really roll in ....
The Deep State showed up .... The deep state not only wanted the money
.... They wanted the power that comes with it .... Remember Elvis come
along before the elite { Deep State } Got their grubby hands on the
control of the music world as it was basically .... less then zero ....
Before Elvis al-most .......... However Elvis was not under their
power .... As Elvis had the talent not to fall pray to them .... The
Elite .... { Deep State } .... Did not like that....... They did not
have power over him ....So they went in to action and ruined the music
world by buying up .... Or just plain taking over enough radio stations
to gain complete control ........... So for the most part That is why
they really stopped playing Elvis much on the radio .... O they did now
and then .... to make it look good .... But for the most part .... Not
much ....they don't let Elvis on Radio any more once they gained control
of enough " Ma and Pa Radio shacks" to control the music you listen to
today ....... Which lead to their power control over all the music world
.... and it is called { " THE NATIONAL PLAY LIST " }.... Why do you
think great music stopped and now we have " Low Vibration" stuff out
there now ......... IT'S TO CONTROL YOU AND YOUR THINKING ........ see
.......... High Vibration music makes you happy- Joyful- Want to help
others and have a great time with your follow man ........... Low
Vibration is completely opposite ...... And give them control over your
attitude .......... Hey I don't think even speakers were around much in
use when he first arrived ........... If even there were many around you
could take to concerts ............. And I don't even know if they did
concerts like now ........ Dances was the thing back then and used the
buildings system then witch I' am sure was not very good then ..........
But if there were speakers they must of weighed a ton ........... OK So
They Control....... GET IT ..... As I said when Elvis first came on
scene there was not a-lot big money in the of the music world .... But
once Elvis come along and made it a world of it's own ..........
Of-course the Elite { Deep State } .... Showed their ugly heads took
over the music world as they do everything ..... Made a fortune on us
and in that fortune gained control of every little thing you hear
with...... "THE NATIONAL PLAY LIST" SO THEY CAN CONTROL WHAT YOU LISTEN
TO AND YOUR ATTITUDE ....... How do you think ..... The so-called-stars
of today become famous ..... Because they have backers that come up with
enough bread to make them that way that's how ...... Money talks Talent
takes a back seat to it ........ As the ELITE .... { Deep State } ....
Wants control of everything that has to do with anything that they can
control over everyone and everything and not someone with talent like
Elvis ....
ELVIS made 29 movies and 2 concert videos.
31 movies and 2 documentaries
Elvis was in at least 40 movies. Kid Galahad, Blue Hawaii, Love Me Tender are just a couple. Great reaction. If you can't tell I love me some Elvis.
31 movies 2 documentaries
I watched all the way to the end and loved your reaction to a song that came out one year before I was born, I'm loving reliving all these memories through your eyes and the eyes of other young people on the internet, at first I was scared to even touch a computer, now I'm looking at UA-cam videos, my kids are saying you go Mom!
Glad you enjoyed this one. He was quite the character. He liked to laugh and have s good time. Watched it to the end. Thanks for the reaction.
Thank you Jamie for sending me this to check out
Elvis made 31 movies. He hated making most of them in the 60's. Elvis is the best!
He enjoyed making them up until around 1965 when they became less appealing and routine and the songs were didn't and kitty level. He said he got physically ill from making those later films. Harum Academy was horrible and he hated it.
Once you start you can't stop Elvis pulls you to him and never let's you go
He was one awesome man. I like watching him sing fever in 73 aloha from Hawaii concert. He shifts a shoulder and the girls go nuts
Elvis, you left us far too soon.
Just Pretend by Elvis is another classic.
Elvis was and is great! Talented, generous, and a great sense of humor. He thought it was hilarious that the girls screamed at his littlest movements, so he would have fun teasing them!
Ed Sullivan kept Elvis from moving. Ed tried making the Doors change the lyrics of Light my fire. Jim just shouted the forbidden word louder, lol.
Me, me,, me! Hey check out “Heartbreak Hotel”, or “Love me tender” , “Don’t be cruel “ Do the live, so you can watch the audience lose there shit”.
The only other solo performer that got to that level was Michael Jackson. Both were so different but at the same time so much alike. Great reaction.
I believe Elvis had around 31, 32 movies through the 50s and late 60s👍
June 5, 1956 Elvis gave American culture "Hond Dog" live on Milton Berle's show; he bumped and grinded and tore the place apart. Make sure you see that version with live footage and live audio!
"Hound Dog", of course...
That great man had it all 💕💕💕
I work at a senior living community and I was talking to one of the residents who is 89 years old.
Love elvis
Charisma on another level!
Over 30 movie's highest paid actor back then
Great reaction! Elvis was, is, and always will be the best entertainer ever!! Ladies and men both enjoyed Elvis. Undeniable talent. You should check out his 68 comeback special version of " Trying to get to you". Thank you for your reaction.
Elvis Unchained Melody!! Is a must React!
Yes elvis is the best hands down no debating.
Elvis was the OG
As simple as this performance looks now, it was a new thing to see such actions on stage, parents hated him as the country was largely conservative christian back then. When Elvis first started many radio stations would not play his records, some stations even stopped playing rock and roll all together and made a big deal out of it - until they saw all the money they were losing and things gradually loosened up.
He was not supposed to do that move them dance moves on The Ed Sullivan show but my man did it anyway and go Elvis
I watched the entire video. This comment is for Elvis and the Black community and your request for another documentary.
Elvis Presley and Johnny Bragg.
Enjoy!✌️
ELVIS is always the best of the best ! only two sings can wake my insides up and make me feel like dancing they are -- ELVIS AND COURTNEY !! thank you !
