THIS is insane!!! $100, $200,$300 for what is little more than a gussied up Hibachi. Crazy!!! Throughout the 70's & 80's you could buy a Hibachi cast iron grill between $20-$30 almost everywhere. At the grocery store, hardware stores, dollar discount stores, Walmart, , Target, sporting goods stores, even at gardening centers. Perfect for apartment dwellers. I would set mine on the banister of my balcony, cooked everything under the sun all year long. Made my own charcoal starter with an empty #10 tin can and a strip of steel riveted on. Cheap, ez to use, just enough coals to cook a full meal for one or two. After buying my 1st full sized Weber grill, I lamented getting rid of the fun little Hibachi
Great video, Luis. These grills are amazing… I have an hibachi grill that resembles the lodge sportsman grill, I believe the original patent has expired and due to that other foundries are making copies… mine was made by a traditional Brazilian foundry called Santana, they make very good stuff and their “sportsman grill” copy is beautifully made… I also believe that the patent expiration is probably the “true reason” why they decided to update the design… Your videos are great, keep it up. Greetings from Brazil!!!
Luis J-Great review! I have been on the fence about buying a Kickoff grill, but after watching this review a couple of times, along with your other videos, I ‘m about ready to pull the trigger. I also really like the way you construct your videos, too. No annoying music, concise commentary, and great filming. 👍👏
@@luisj.castironcooking nice, I would like to buy it rn but I’m waiting for reviews on Amazon and other websites. The old sports man grill had really good ratings on every website. Not one website had a rating of the old sportsman grill below 4.5/5.
The tin foil/ aluminum foil is an idea from The Culinary Fanatic. He deserves the credit for that but I do appreciate the support. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment
hey thanks that's best comparison. i think i am going to buy the pro version. do you have recommendation for the table or stand to keep the grill. i see yours have wheels. what's the brand of it.
Hello a lodge Dutch oven table or a camp chef Dutch oven table would work great. What I am using is something my brother built for me. Thanks for watching
Great review. I have the KO grill and love it for the backyard and throw it in the truck for vacations and trips. Use of a foil pizza tray under the coals makes for quick clean up. I'm debating to get myself a SM grill and haven't pulled the trigger yet. What table are you using?
It’s a custom built table for Dutch Oven cooking and for skillet cooking as well. You can place wood on the inside of the grill and I have heavy duty painted grates for my skillets. So I can cook with charcoal or wood.
I have both the discontinued Sportsmans grill which I’ve owned for several years, and the Kick-Off grills a recent acquisition…the new Sportsmans Grill Pro doesnt float my boat. That said I have always liked the Sportsmans but I REALLY like the Kick-Off grill much better than I expected. Good review Luis…thats a lot o’ meat your using as “props” for this video, and now I’m hungry! LOL
Thanks 🙏🏽 for the support and for the comment. Yes the kick off grill is underrated to be honest and everyone misses the Orginal Sportsman Grill including myself.
Can I ask what you don't like about the new pro? I have 2 of the originals which I use often but there are a couple things I don't like. The round "Lodge" logo in the center of the grill surface serves no purpose except making stuff burn since it's a hot spot. I prefer the more rectangular shape of the new pro grill vs the oval shape, and the ash cleaning seems easier with the new pro. I'm considering buying a couple of pros to replace my originals since Lodge is running a sale now, but I'm open to feedback.
The charcoal gets jammed because you use too much charcoal at once, just use a single layer, it burns efficient and completely and the chimney keeps more charcoal on hand to add if you need it later
Original Sportsman’s Grill is much easier to maintain/clean. I have to have a removable charcoal grate. It enables me to line the fire bowl from the bottom to the top edge with grilling aluminum foil. Just cut out where the charcoal air vent is. My older original still looks brand new after 17 years. The Kickoff and Original Sportsman’s - 👍 Sportsman’s Pro - 👎
😮😊 IF ~~ YOU cut a shield ~ or~ flip the cooking grate = economy & heat! Me? I want the DOOR / HATCH : back ! Bad mgt. ? 🤔🙏😭 YET A DOZEN CLONES HAVE THE DOOR: MY affinity for Lodge & Weber are my weakness! The new KICK is too easy, no burns or blisters. But : old dogs need new tricks when the youth & concentration fades = $ 99.99 +T ? NOT TVAT BAD ! Need to did a bunker 4 my " sportsman grill (s) " this :" PRO" IS THE FUTURE ?? UNTIL THE "G" complete our children and their children's children to use solar cells & LITHIUM-ION BATTERY 🔋 " grills" & plugged into our Tesla II ~ HYBRIDS? 😅😢 ( bought a roll of SS roof capping = last me two life times - 76 yrz? ) Like your table : EYE went from a metal chair to a 289 Chevy block ! Maybe 6 blocks & a bag of Crete is obsolete too? : ' SMOKE ON!❤
Meat too close to the fire. I’ve seen this over and over again-people end up over cooking their meat on these contraptions. Nothing like a Proper Texas bbq pit. We make them small enough to cook for 4 people for about the same price, maybe a bit more. These Lodge contraptions just overcook your meat. I’ve seen it twice already on two videos. Charred chicken, wings, steaks, fajitas, burgers, sausage. Fire is too close to the meat. Get yourself a proper Texas bbq pit.
Love the presentation, both visual and audio. Really refreshing to hear and watch your reviews. Thanks!
Great show-down, Luis. Thank you for testing these grills for us. Stay safe and stay cool
I just bought the previous model from Lodge website by ordering the replacement parts. Cool tip!!! thanks
I really like that kick-off grill ! Thanks for the upload.
Thanks 🙏🏽
Great video. Calm, straight forward, informative and honest.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words

Shoooot in da 70s & 80s gas was $1 a gallon. So bid farewell to alllll old prices.😂😂😂😂😂 Aaahhhh da guuuud ol dayZzz.

Good video and informative. Very nice. Thank you.
I like the old model better.

Great video as always. Can't wait to see your full review of the new Sportsman Pro Grill whenever you get more time with it.
I think another month and I will be giving the Pro grill a proper review with a better perspective. Thanks

Found my 1st gen. Sportsmans grill on craigslist, cheap. Was rusty but restoring was worth it.
Love my pro, I do use the tin foil liner and lump coal. I don’t have issues with the ash drawer jamming up

What is that grill stand you have there?

Same, I really like my discontinued Sportsman’s Grill. Not really interested in the new Pro design. May try the kickoff.

Can I use wood chips to Grill with? And what vegetables can I Grill? From NYC, thank you.
Yes, absolutely
También tengo las dos parrillas.. son excelentes
I should be receiving my replacement kick off grill soon!
Awesome! I did hear of your experience and it sounds like it was resolved.
@@luisj.castironcooking the replacement is traveling much faster than the cracked one lol. After some time on the phone with Amazon I got it fixed
great review
great information, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Which one cooked the most evenly?
The kick off grill and in second was the original sportsman grill. The sportsman pro grill I need more time with it to get a good review.
The charcoal gets jammed because you use too much charcoal at once, just use a single layer, it burns efficient and completely and the chimney keeps more charcoal on hand to add if you need it later
Awesome! !!!!!!!
get some grill grates for it and it will be a perfect grill!
I use lump in the pro, haven’t had an issue. Nice video!
Lodge the addiction continues!!

The Kickoff and Original Sportsman’s - 👍
Sportsman’s Pro - 👎
Camp Chef has a grill that is very close in design to the Sportsman Grill
Liked and followed
Thank you 🙏🏽 I appreciate all the support and kind words
You’re losing me on your product report while you’re talking about one grill, you’re panning over to another one; very confusing.
The Mangrate

Oh man take that aluminum out of there dude the aluminum is poisonous to you and your family man. No aluminum required friend on them grills
You talked for 9 minutes
Not a big deal

You should have just cooked and not talked over the video .
