I also have a friend from Denmark who after being partially disabled due to a medical condition had to leave Denmark as his disability would not cover the cost of a basic Apartment, and before Covid he moved to Vietnam and loved it, until Vietnam kicked out ex-pats during covid. He then went to Tblisi Georgia as it was the only place in the world open, and he fell in love with Georgia and the people there. He had a huge remodeled Soviet era Penthouse apartment with a lovely view for only $400 per month. He convinced me to escape to Georgia but I postponed that when the war in the region started. Prices are much higher now in Georgia but for those looking to escape the U.S. It's worth a look. I've been looking seriously into Turkey, Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Italy. Ireland where I'm living is wet, grey and cold this time of the year. But watching you talking about Malaysia in your lovely apartment with passion always bring warmth to my heart. Visiting Malaysia end of the month. This is something I've been wanting to do for 2 years now.
I’ve been planning an escape to live in Southeast Asia for four years. The selection has definitely contributed to that Escape. I think at least for the next 4 to 5 years. I’m going to spend my hard earned retirement somewhere else. I’m already text to death here in the states. They’re not going to get any more of it. I’m looking forward to drifting around Southeast Asia, and finding my place, my place to relax after some extensive travel. I’m going to tune out the majority of the news back home while I’m gone. Just trying to tie a few loose ends before I buy my first airline ticket since I retired. I watched three of your videos this morning. I woke up extra early have to go do some blood work. I can’t even have my coffee or anything to eat. But I’ve been fasting anyway no food after 6 o’clock until 6:00 AM the next morning. I’ve been walking 6 1/2 miles every other day since I retired in August. I am down 30 pounds now about 15 more to go. Starting to feel quite a bit better except for a darn flareup of kidney stones last week. I’m better now. I’m with you about the election pretty disappointing. What’s real disappointing is how many friends and family rare they’re ugly heads.
My man, Taylor. I am so happy for you making the move here in KL. What a great life decision. All the best. I hope we can collaborate a vlog someday here in KL. My condolences for your brother.
My condolences for your loss. 😥 This was a great video. The information which you provide is so helpful. Also congrats on your 150th video. I noticed that but forgot to mention it last week. Please continue with the excellent content and hoping you and your family find solace with each other during this difficult time. All the best.
So glad you are happy here Andrew, your videos never fail to brighten my mood. If you have any trouble at all or need help, do reach out to us. You are held in high regard here and you can be sure that your followers here will jump at the chance to lend you a hand. You take care..
Andrew dear! I am so sorry you brother is gone now, please accept my condolences to you and family. Plus - this is great episode, full of valuable information - thank you again.
Thank you, Taylor. I agree with most of what you've said, although I've never been to Vietnam, so that's out. While I love Penang, most of my friends live in KL, so it's the obvious choice for me once my MM2H is approved. All MM2H applicants are now required to use a licensed agent to apply for their visas. There are a number of groups on Facebook for both the western and eastern versions of the program; they can help find the licensed agents who will help the applicant each step of the way. It can be a confusing, to say the least! BTW, your coffee has been ordered. Finally, my condolences on your loss. I lost my brother while I was in Malaysia 2.5 years ago so I know how difficult it is, especially so far away.
Thanks! I’m so sorry to hear about your brother. It's always so difficult to lose someone, especially while away from home. Thanks for the other info. 🤗
@@slaw2224 And after so many visits to Malaysia over so many years, my friends are a huge plus. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Malaysians are the nicest people I've ever met.

I'll be traveling to Malaysia and teaching English at a winter camp during lunar new year, just north of Singapore. Really excited, have never been to this part of SE Asia. Then in January I'll be traveling around SE Asia and documenting on my channel as well. Thanks for the helpful information. Enjoyed the video! 👍
I enjoy your vids. Well rounded info and appreciated the cross country comparisons. Also might consider which country language is easiest to learn - Malay and bahasa Indonesian are the simplest for a western and have a chance of being semi fluent
@vbrandi7928 Malaysian language i.e. Bahasa Melayu is easy to learn because it's straight forward written in romanise and no need to worry about the grammar, genders and phonetic, some of the words derived from English and others.
Condolences on your loss. I admire your ability to maintain a healthy positive attitude. It’s been a challenge of late and you help me keep my focus on the good
Thanks for another great video. I am coming to KL this weekend and staying for over 2 months :) Very exciting times! Sorry to hear about your brother. May he RIP
Thank you so much for your videos! I really look forward to them. By the way, the Sarawak MM2H just announced an increase in the deposit requirements, to be implemented January 1, 2025.
Taylor! I'm so sorry for your loss. Thanks for such a great overview of those countries in Southeast Asia. Your wall art is stunning in the background.
The infrastructure in Thailand is excellent. I’ve lived in Bangkok and I now live in the countryside. Roads, power, water, internet - it’s all good. Thailand will stamp tourists in for 60 and this can be extended 30 days. It is easy to stay as a retiree indefinitely if you meet the financial requirements. Vietnam doesn’t have a retirement visa. If you stay long term then you are manipulating some other visa and possibly making 90 day visa runs.
My condolences to your loss. Suggestion to chat about some of insects/mosquitos in this SEA region. Why? There is this Brit family while in one island Thailand wife had she claimed she had dengue fever. And she said she no go to hospital which is crazy. She did a vlog. You get admit to hospital fast if suspected dengue fever. It is NOT the usual fever or hay fever. It is serious. In Malaysia if there is a case of one dengue fever reported and someone is already hospitalised, local health authorities will be alerted and the whole housing area will be fumigated with dengue mozzie spray..its safe for humans. This spray kills the mozzies .. Take care👍
Good on you mate! You’re one of the good Americans who deserve to live in a more sane part of the world. By the way Bali is wonderful provided you avoid the most touristy parts.
One of the best videos for the topic discussed. One of the criteria that is important to me is air pollution. Lived in Jomtien, just 2 hours from Bangkok. AQI level can be nearly as high as Bangkok during the burning season - many get quite sick, or worse. One year was enough for me. Loved Thailand and the Thai people, and am going to return occasionally - going to Phuket for 5 nights in January - but Thailand just isn’t for me long term. I have just returned from Kuala Lumpur last week. Spent 6 days in the city on Jalan Ampang, then 3 nights out at Sepang. It was an epic trip (also an epic race). Back to air pollution, the 3 times I have visited K.L., air quality has always been good. I am not sure yet if it will be Malaysia for my second home, as I really love Indonesia. I don’t have any plans to visit Bali, but I already have a trip to Lombok scheduled in February, and also in October next year, so will have a good look around. Next month I will be in Jakarta and also will visit Bandung for the first time. Seems that Indonesia has made visas a little more accessible with more options. As for the condo in Florida, maybe you have already considered the online companies similar to Zillow. I sold a home in Florida in 2021 with them, and couldn’t have been more pleased. I understand that they might not be active any longer, but there are a number of alternatives. Your videos really are great. Thank you
Hi Andrew. Your brother is now out of pain and in a better place. You will see him again one day. Thanks for the information about the other Asian Countries.Very useful. It does seem that Malaysia comes out best. Have a good week xxx Ashleyxxx Look forward to your next vlog.
Andy.. most doctors are locally trained now.. they use to be trained in the UK.. but in the last few decades.. Malaysia has develop their own medical institutions.. in fact other surrounding countries are sending their budding medical student ''for skill nurse to surgeon'' to Malaysia and Singapore.. in fact Malaysia and Singapore has develop a good reputation for producing medical personal at a fraction of the price people if people from other Asian countries would otherwise have to pay if they were to go to the west.. many said some aspect of Malaysian medical care infrastructures is actually better organised.. and far superior.. in Malaysia they are not too fanatical about making huge profits like they do in the US.. and fleecing sick people in the process.. its something to do with their concept of hospitality and Islam.. so they claimed..
Thanks Taylor! This is exactly what I like to see initially: a comparison of the high points. A future video can delve into more details, like comparing (with pictures or video) the apartment options in each country, food options (what kinds of local foods & costs vs cost to shop and cook at home), etc. I wish that Malaysia was affordable because I agree that is probably the best country all around. It would be great if you had a chance to pop over to Indonesia to compare it to Malaysia!
Hi Mr Taylor, great video. You look very handsome with new haircut, young and much admired good looking. I am the reverse of yourself. I'm a Malaysian would be relocating to the US soon, why? I have got a great job with one of the colleges in the States, and because of my C-Executive Level experience (34+ years), the annual pay is handsome too. I love the college atmosphere in the US, college football and basketball, and a lot more. By the way, I was educated in the US, was teaching at one of the colleges in Kansas after my graduation. I can't wait to experience another college life, again, and this time around, at the age of 67.
Love you Andrew, for loving and staying in my country. Sorry to hear that your apartment in Florida was hit by the hurricane recently. Pray that everything works out well for you here.
Taaaaalor. I'm finding your videos again and being reminded of your exuberantly flamboyant voice. I imagine you being a well regarded concierge at a Malaysian resort with a deep purple tux, red shiny shoes and a jeweled fedora. A sad time in the US right now means all the more reason to watch your videos for inspiration to find a better place in this world. Thank you for more valued Asian insight!
Great video, I like the Philippines but I'm not sure I could live there full-time. I've always like Malaysia, KL is a wonderful city, and the healthcare is great and very inexpensive. But alcohol is expensive which is a bummer, I love wine lol. If I chose Malaysia I think I would go to Penang. But I do want to visit Eastern Malaysia and Cambodia, I'm also looking at Chang Mai, Taiwan which I really do like as well. I'm also considering Mexico and Ecuador but I love Asia. The U.S. is getting expensive, the political climate and the division is not great. I hope next year I will be out of here. Sorry for the loss of your brother Andrew.
Three years ago when I left the US to become a SE Asian Slow Traveler, I was criticized. Now three years later when they see my very healthy, happy, fully engaged with my life, contented, inspired and without stress, they call me smart and want my help to explore. I’m having my best life. Great topic
Thanks for the great info. And i really appreciate you staying still while talking. Too many others are always walking and it gives me motion sickness 😭😂
I've been researching a move to SE Asia for 4 years. Of the few expat Tubers in PH who do travel anywhere they all are amazed how nice Thailand and Malaysia are. They talk with their Filipina about moving but then nothing happens. Even within PH few travel, but a couple who did try a cool location like Baguio they say it's wonderful and "We should move here" but never do and go right back to complaining about the heat. As far as I can tell PH is mainly for guys who want to meet a Filipina online, get picked up at the airport, drive to where her family lives and there they stay. PH is maybe the most expensive SE Asia country after Singapore. Infrastructure near the bottom, most places have a lot of trash, loose dogs, roosters, karaoke. Medical is not the best. The tourist numbers really tell the story. PH gets 10-20 times fewer tourists than Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia. For older people medical can become an on going thing. Emergencies and on going things are not things I'd want to travel to another country to handle. So "for major things" and going to another country is kind of delusional. It has to be Goldilocks event to enable travel.
I can hear the heartbreak in your voice as you speak of your brother's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss. It really is difficult to lose a sibling. Bereavement can be such a protracted state of shock and quiet anguish. I lost my older brother in 2020. I'm glad you were with friends on election night. It was definitely not the time to be alone. Each day, the reality of what is about to unfold gets worse and worse, and I live in the SF Bay area. This is my first time to see your channel come up in my feed. May I ask how you moved your things from FL to Penang? You may already have a video about it. I'll look through your videos, too, to see if the info is there.
@@andrewtaylor4558 Thank you for your response. I had a feeling that might be the case after I watched your videos earlier on living with someone else's things for 7 years and finally getting to furnish your "new" place with the things you like. 🤗

I live in 3 different countries: USA - UAE - Malaysia ON & OFF according to project schedule base 😅. No PERMANENT stay per location 👌🏻 Happy living in Malaysia, bro....😎. It's a STABLE peaceful country, less crimes rate. Whenever choosing place for permanent stay, THINK ABOUT SAFETY FIRST. Find a country with strict crime law. MALAYSIA law not allowed it citizen or foreigner owning guns or any weapon. Anybody found guilty having a single bullet kept with them, they going to be sentences to whole life in prison or death sentence. This makes people shivers to perform such a crime act, even though some criminal smuggle guns from Thai border but once they are found and captured, end of life. If you had have budget minimum USD 1,000/= , you can live LAVISHLY in Malaysia for a single person budget. If you have USD 12,000/= it's more than enough to live stay and survive for one year in Malaysia. Having USD 120,000/= it's enough for 10 years survival in Malaysia 😅. I d been travel around the world and still Malaysia is still the best place compared to other countries. Think SAFETY FIRST and AVOID staying from CRIMES areas as Los Angeles crime rates is 7 times higher daily...u can't guarantee your safety with the unexpected events... Take care. Any problems with crimes, just go to the nearest local police station and they are kind enough to assist you👌🏻

Hi Taylor! Sorry to hear about your brother's passing. Sad indeed. On my short list of SE Asia places for my future ExPat locations is the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Manila. I have seen other channels talk about it well, and lots of western food in that location with solid infrastructure there. The others are KL, but then you mentioned to me last time to check out Penang. That wasn't on my radar till you mentioned it. I will do more researching on it. My "Break Glass in Case of financial Emergency" is Da Nang. However, I might do research a bit more on Cambodia via Jeremy and Clair's channel. Thanks for the link. Cambodia might slide under Da Nang as most affordable on my list. Oddly enough I am not a big fan of SE Asian food, so I will need to have some western food at my disposal due to stomach issues.
Hi there, thx so much for sharing your thoughts for those soon be retirees who are feeling 'stuck' living in the US. Like u said, its not hard to move out of the country. All it takes is a little courage and a receptive mind...I will be joining u at KL soon 😅...Condolences to the loss of your brother
I am looking at places to retire when i am 67. Bali looked very attractive but just in the last few years it has exploded with development and the prices have risen a lot. It seems to have lost its paradise charm although one can still live there for much less than in the US, but the issues of traffic and air quality are becoming an issues. And of course there is the language barrier...
G'day Taylor, The last time I checked, Vietnam issued 90-day tourist visas for Australians but no long-term visas. It should be the same for Americans. Expats in Vietnam do visa runs. There are almost no restrictions on property ownership except that only a certain number of apartments in any building can be owned by foreigners. Sorry for your loss.
Taylor good info as always. I'm hoping I can interest you on doing a video on how you manage your property rental from outside the US. I was trying to sell my property in Florida but nothing is moving so now I'm trying to rent it so I can travel again. Thanks
I like Malaysia for its rich cultural diversity, delicious food, and stunning natural beauty. The friendly people and the affordable cost of living also make it an enjoyable place to be, along with the modern infrastructure found in major cities. However, I dislike the huge temperature difference from outside to inside, in aircon places (malls). Political instability and the limited public services in rural areas are also concerning. Additionally, social issues like racial discrimination (more among Malaysians) and environmental problems can be frustrating, and I find police bribing and corruption troubling, as they undermine trust in law enforcement.
Very true. Alcohol cost more in Malaysia due to Sin Tax. Looking at the positive side though, now we know that in Malaysia, you indeed can commit sin, just that you need to pay tax for it hehe 😁
Andrew Taylor is a real mentch. A fine human being. But i would be willing to bet that if he were looking into Malaysia now he would not go forward with it. The situation with the expat visas is so confusing and open to change and too much of a risk for too much money. I am happy for Andrew that he succeeded when he did and not now. I also admire him for being able to tolerate the high heat and humidity which I would never be able to tolerate anywhere at my age. I'm also close to Andrew's age. And i know for sure my wife could never take it. The climate in western Canada suits us fine except for January, February and March. What worries us more is the Woke culture and international conflict caused by financial greediness of the elites.
@tb - you can apply for an e-visa to VN & it will give you 3 months. After that, you need to do a visa run or use an agent to do it for you. I've heard of ppl living for years in VN by doing regular visa runs.
I am so happy for you that you relocated to Malaysia when you did and when it was easier to do. It was obviously the right move! Condolences on the loss of your brother.

I hope your plans work out. It sounds like you're well on your way!
Thank you for this lovely video. Always enjoy listening to your warm voice. My condolences for your loss. I
Thank you so much! 😪
Thanks!
Thank so much William! 🤗

Taylor, you have a really lovely home with beautiful interior. A reminder for me to spring clean my house and set up the Christmas tree this weekend
Thank you so much! 🤗

Deepest condolences to you and your family for your loss. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
When moving to a new place, having a group of friends is a big plus!
@@slaw2224 And after so many visits to Malaysia over so many years, my friends are a huge plus. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Malaysians are the nicest people I've ever met.
I am sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself. I always give my cat (Xavier) a big hug when I need one. Glad that Earl Grey is there for you if you need some kitty therapy. Stay safe.
Thank you so much ☺️
I'll be traveling to Malaysia and teaching English at a winter camp during lunar new year, just north of Singapore. Really excited, have never been to this part of SE Asia. Then in January I'll be traveling around SE Asia and documenting on my channel as well. Thanks for the helpful information. Enjoyed the video! 👍
Have a great time! 👍
I’m very sorry to hear about your brother. Offering my deepest condolences.
Thank you so much 🙏
Good afternoon Taylor
You look great today..
More younger, stay healthy 💪😊
Thank you so much! ☺️

So sorry to hear about your brother. Don't be too sad, he's with God now. I'm a Malaysian and I feel proud you love Malaysia as much as I do ❤

Thank you 🙏 I appreciate you noticing the art.
Looking handsome with the haircut. Sorry for your loss of your brother.
Thank you 🙏
Taylor you are a breath of fresh air.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing!
Banyak informasi yang boleh diperolehi Uncle Taylor
Take care👍

Good information Taylor
Thanks so much! 🤗
Thank you
Thank you so much! Good luck to you 🤗
Taylor❤❤❤❤
Good to know.
I’ll add that to my list! 😊
Hi Mr Taylor! Sorry to hear that ur brother had.passed away. May his soul RIP ! Amen!
Thank you so much ☺️
Thank you for saying Malaysia is best. You give a comprehensive account of the neccesities for living in a foreign country.
I’m so sorry about your brother, Taylor. ❤

WOW, nice apartment you have there Taylor!
I'm sorry to hear about your brother.
Thank you for this. My current plan when I retire, my wife and I are planning on living in SE Asia in the winter for 6 months a year.
That's fantastic! You'll love it here. 🤗

Love you Andrew, for loving and staying in my country. Sorry to hear that your apartment in Florida was hit by the hurricane recently. Pray that everything works out well for you here.
Thanks, it means a lot to me. 🙏
Taaaaalor. I'm finding your videos again and being reminded of your exuberantly flamboyant voice. I imagine you being a well regarded concierge at a Malaysian resort with a deep purple tux, red shiny shoes and a jeweled fedora.

Just because PH was an American colony, it is not equal to America. Basically, vloggers can lie too to increase viewership.
I was considering Malaysia but since the cost of MM2H was way too high we went to Chiang Mai instead. Glad I made the switch
Glad to hear you found a good fit!

Long live Taylor
I live in 3 different countries:
USA - UAE - Malaysia ON & OFF according to project schedule base 😅. No PERMANENT stay per location 👌🏻
Happy living in Malaysia, bro....😎.
Take care. Any problems with crimes, just go to the nearest local police station and they are kind enough to assist you👌🏻
It is such a great place to live! 😄

@@amerfilmstudios9292 Whoaaaa. I haven't heard this before about the punishment for having a gun or even a bullet.
Plenty of Western food here.
Best of luck! 🤗
Thank you 🙏

I like Malaysia for its rich cultural diversity, delicious food, and stunning natural beauty. The friendly people and the affordable cost of living also make it an enjoyable place to be, along with the modern infrastructure found in major cities. However, I dislike the huge temperature difference from outside to inside, in aircon places (malls). Political instability and the limited public services in rural areas are also concerning. Additionally, social issues like racial discrimination (more among Malaysians) and environmental problems can be frustrating, and I find police bribing and corruption troubling, as they undermine trust in law enforcement.
🤔
Very true. Alcohol cost more in Malaysia due to Sin Tax. Looking at the positive side though, now we know that in Malaysia, you indeed can commit sin, just that you need to pay tax for it hehe 😁
I’ll drink to that! 🥂
Woke simply means compassion. Why is that bad? The term has been perverted.
@andrewtaylor4558 I mean Woke as the fanatical nihilistic political ideology being shoved down the everybody's throat in western countries.
You're showing the Rialto bridge in Venice when talking about Malacca 😂
Nope that bridge is in Malaka. Took the pic myself.
My condolences for your loss. Just for your info, all malaysian school teaches english as a second language.

How would you get an easy visa in Vietnam? I don't think so.
No but I know people from other countries who do live there.
@tb - you can apply for an e-visa to VN & it will give you 3 months. After that, you need to do a visa run or use an agent to do it for you. I've heard of ppl living for years in VN by doing regular visa runs.
Cambodia is real cool
