Thank you, Andrew, for introducing Jeff to your channel and the countless other expatriates who have chosen to base themselves in Malaysia. I can only image how difficult it must be for foreigners to relocate themselves to Malaysia; the paperwork alone seems to be a barrier. Even yet, it's encouraging to know that many more foreigners are making the effort to relocate here, despite the difficulties in acclimating to the new surroundings, climate, people, and other unspoken elements. Penang is a fantastic option, but KL is also may be good for you because it has plenty of quiet areas and you can still enjoy privacy while you're in your own house. We Malaysians are happy to have kind individuals from all over the world living with us and are appreciative if they can integrate into our civilized society. Thus, stay and chat with the locals as there are enough of friendly people to make you feel at home even though there are still a lot of other expats here that you can count on.

Great interview Taylor. Interestingly I am in an opposite conundrum. I am Malaysian, from mainland state of Kedah about 2 hours from Penang Island. I started college in Penang before completing my degree in US and I have spent my entire 30-year working career in Dallas, TX and hope to retire in the next 5-6 years. I wasn't aware of how hard it is to apply for the MM2H program. All my siblings are still back home so I have decided that it may be a good idea to keep my Malaysian citizenship just in case I change my mind in the future. In the meantime, the annual vacation between the States and Johor Bahru via Singapore to visit family will continue. Who knows I might decide to visit Penang this December. I miss the food there.
I used to live in Dallas too, originally from Malaysia, I just got back a month ago from Malaysia traveling for 2 months there. I have relocate to uk and now looking at Canary Islands this Monday for 3 months stay. Penang is in my list.
Welcome to Malaysia judge, will be adding another population in Penang. To Taylor be prepared for festivals round the corner. Chinese New Year, Ramadhan (local cakes for a month), Hari Raya Aidil Fitri etc. Hope it will be interesting 2u.

Hello Taylor, I am in Germany now planning to move to Penang sometime this year with two medium size dog . I would like to check with you if it possible for you to ask your friends which agent your friends use to bring his dog to Penang.
I hope Judge Jeff will not be shocked to see how Chinese New Year is being celebrated in Malaysia , especially the fireworks. Get ready for the loud bangs. LOL. Welcome to Malaysia
Wonderful! Malaysia is the best place for Westerners to retire, especially since they appreciate the sunny weather and an English-speaking environment in the country.
Welcome to Malaysia Jeff. U can walk using sandals/slippers, in shorts and TShirts...nobody care. Malaysia is a very safe country; relatively low cost of living.

Andrew - Another very informative interview. Thanks to Jeff for sharing his story. I wish him the best in his stay in Penang. Please more interviews! I look forward to your videos. IT really makes my week.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but one of us is getting bad advice from our agent. My agent told me that Malaysia does not recognize retirement income, e.g. pension, annities, social security to qualify for the RM40K / month income for the MM2H visa. To qualify, I need a salary. Since I'm retired, I do not have a salary or enough investment income to qualify. If they accepted retirement income, I would easily qualify. Also, in my recent contact with my agent, she stated that all processing of MM2H are suspended. No applications are being processed. This may explain why you have not heard anything for 8 months. Thanks for the video. Good luck. Keep us informed. I'm in KL waiting for approval of my Thai 5 year Elite Gold Visa.
Excellent interview Andrew. Welcome to Penang Jeff you couldn’t have chosen a better place to retire. I also have the SMm2h but live in Penang. Hope you get yours very soon.
Great video Andrew Your guest's point on property prices is very real. No increase in value in Penang for the last 8 years and if anything prices have gone down by around 20%. Another class of guest you may like to interview are the local service providers. Hourly maid providers springs to mind along with car sales and real estate. The role of building managers and sourcing trades people is another. Thanks again
In Malaysia, if you meet the requirements set by the government, the process of all applications can be very easy. It can be a little faster or later, but it will be approved. You do not need to know anyone.

Andy, something just came to mind that Jeff might find fun and you could assist with, that being: As Jeff likes to entertain and has a lovely home to do so with, perhaps you could help him arrange a casual social New Mexico style BBQ party for local Malaysians and Ex-pats to meet up (including perhaps locals in the legal profession) to network and expand social relationships . Years ago I thought a-local-ex-pat social group would be a needed asset for the community.

Thanks, Andrew, for allowing Jeff, the retired judge from the US, in your video. It's a good introduction to how an expatriate lives and works here on MM2H status. Let's hope all the paperwork will be done on time before Jeff decides on other options in March 2024. Penang is more or less a permanent choice, a food haven, and a slower pace of life than KL. Furthermore, Penang is the most suitable retirement spot and is in the top 10 in the world regarding retiring here, according to the travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler. Well, let's hope that more American expats will choose Penang as their destination in their golden years.
Marvelous. Glad to meet Mr. Jeff. Nice person and friendly as he talks with him. I hope, Andrew can visit Jeff once awhile if you go to Penang. 😂 Cheers.
Great video! I especially loved my 3 seconds of fame at the end!😆😆 I'm glad he was able to get his dog here without a problem He's braver than I am. I didn't want to bring my cats into Malaysia until I secured a visa. Now that I've got the S-MM2H (after 18 months) I'm going to fly them out here in early March. I'm going to spend 3 weeks in February packing up the house in the US and making the final travel arrangements for the cats. Once I'm settled in maybe I'll be the one on the couch being interviewed? Warning, you might end up with a cat or two or three on your lap during the interview! 🐱
Hi Eric, congratulations on getting your smm2h. Which agent did you use? And did you have to have the good conduct form filled out by someone in the police department in the US? How many times did you have to go back and forth to do the paperwork? Which bank did you go with for the deposit portion?
Hello Taylor, love your videos. Since you’ve lived in both Penang and KL, do you mind sharing the differences regarding safety, cleanliness, and hygiene aspected regarding the two cities? Thank you!
Great interview! So nice to meet both of you. We might see you soon too.😂 We live in Silicon Valley, California. We were in KL, Penang, SG and Thailand in Dec for a month. My husband loved Penang most and he is ready to go back again to explore housing. My husband just retired 3 weeks ago and been researching our options, including MM2H. Praying for Jeff to get the approval before March. 🤞

Nice video, Andrew's easy style of interviewing in a breath of fresh air. I sincerely hope the judge gets his visa completed before the deadline. I understood due to the changes, MM2H was temporarily on hold until all the new processes are ironed out and fully moved back to the tourism ministry. We are getting the ball rolling in Sarawak when we are over there next month.
Another great interview! If you could pop an update on your channel when Jeff gets his approval that would be awesome. We have been waiting 5 months now for our approval and are keen to hear how far behind they are running. All the best to Jeff and wishing him a speedy approval! 🙂
Such good content, and a nice variety of subjects on your channel! I was pleasantly surprised about this Judge's pet's experience. Thank you for all your hard work. Cheers!
Penang welcomes westerners because Malaysia was once a colonial country. The British set up excellent schools and infrastructure on the island of Penang and Malaysia. Penang people speak fluent English, as a result. The living is easier and slower. It is cheaper to live on the island especially, if you are using U.S. dollars.
How difficult is to get the silver visa to retire in penang ? Is it just the deposit with no monthly income requirement ? How else do they evaluate you and is it hard to get or is it just being able to put the deposit in ? Once you obtain it for the silver it is 10 years ? Are there any yearly re evaluations ? Can the process be all done online ? Sorry for so many questions 😊
A retired US judge now living in Penang, well done Andrew introducing Americans living in Malaysia, even though I don't live in Malaysia, I just love your channel 👍🏻
A noble-looking judge with a kind heart! Most people would have given their dogs to a shelter instead of going through so much hassel for taking them abroad. Thanks for this inspiring interview!❤
Another excellent video! I'm unable (nor is my wife) to settle in megacities, in whatever country, where people are living in gigantic beehives. Heaven save us from any of them. We're probably left with Penang, Nha Trang, Siem Reap and Chiang Mai. Some countries are easier for us older folks to retire in, far from the mega beehives. So far Cambodia seems to be a winner along with Ecuador and Uruguay. So it's a choice of Siem Reap, Montevideo and Cuenca. Problem is that Ecuador is in a bit of turmoil. And isn't the MM2H about as difficult as the situation in Vietnam, even if Penang sounds like a nice option? Then there's the weather, humidity and heat. Maybe that leaves me with Montevideo. Maybe southern Portugal. How are our fellow viewers in retirement age feeling about all this? Andrew is a heck of a reliable person. Will he stay permanent in the megapolis of KL?? I bet not. Anyway, keep up the good work with the videos. They give alot to think about for us older folks!!
Long time subscriber and very much enjoying your channel. Can you recommend local agents that have track record working with American to apply for the MM2H program? Thanks and appreciated.
Your interview videos are always the most interesting and fun and informative to watch. Enjoyed very much. Keep it up Taylor! And thank you for doing it and sharing !
What would keep a person from not messing with the immigration process in Malaysia and just living in a centrally located, high rise hotel/condo/apt in KL for about US$13,000 per year on a tourist visa? While I would prefer to have a home base and live *one* place, a la Jeff, seems like a lot of (unnecessary/low value) hassle. Which is odd because to me, Malaysia, is beaucoups value for fees otherwise. (Note: I gather there were some issues with the previous pgm, but the 90%(?) drop in immigration calculations should be sufficient evidence that we have over-course corrected with the new requirements, no?)
I was there in 1967 loved the country. They all treated me very nice. Our money was worth a lot more there. They love Americans. Beautiful WwIi memorial in the city.
he may look to get a thai LTR visa as a stop gap to not have to travel back to the states. Right now I think that MOTAC is not accepting applications until the final versions have been approved.
I wouldn't consider moving my Doberman to the tropics. I lived in the Philippines for five years and having a big scary type dog over there is not good for them. They get skin ailments, and locals are less accepting there than here. Here my Doberman, angel though he is, freaks alot of people out. I'd say wait until your dog passes before moving. I ain't going anywhere until his time is up. DO NOT sell your house! Rent it out. The "Paradise Syndrome" wears off after a few years. I returned homeless to expensive America and after four years Snowbird Boondocking in my RV finally found a desirable town that wasn't ridiculously over-priced. (Does the judge know Jules & Devon from Santa Fe? I think they had an art gallery or something. Family friends )
Nice house tour and visit with Jeff, thank you. Next week my wife and I will hopefully land in KL for a belated honeymoon tour of Malaysia and Singapore. We would love to know where Taylor may be dining next week . Hopefully, we can introduce ourselves. Subscribers NE & SQL.
Hi Andrew & Jeff : - I've some suggestions for both of you. Why not you guys & better more people from other countries joint MM2H community. If not yet have this kind of community, maybe you all can set a meeting, sitting around & have some serious conversation like making MM2H foundation focusing helping future expat or others getting more information even better maybe this MM2H foundation will have their own house after buying it or been donate from MM2H community if they past away there. Ahh.. it just small suggestions making MM2H community ease when staying here.😊 -

I understood due to the changes, MM2H was temporarily on hold until all the new processes are ironed out and fully moved back to the tourism ministry. We are getting the ball rolling in Sarawak when we are over there next month.
Good luck to you 😊
Another great interview! If you could pop an update on your channel when Jeff gets his approval that would be awesome. We have been waiting 5 months now for our approval and are keen to hear how far behind they are running. All the best to Jeff and wishing him a speedy approval! 🙂
Will do! 🤗
Which agent did he choose and would you recommend her? I am looking for a short term rental in Penang.
Don’t think she does short term.
I like Jeff's shirt!
Give my love ❤️ to Kelly, please.
This is a great interview Andrew 😃
Thanks! ☺️
Such good content, and a nice variety of subjects on your channel! I was pleasantly surprised about this Judge's pet's experience. Thank you for all your hard work. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😉
Penang welcomes westerners because Malaysia was once a colonial country. The British set up excellent schools and infrastructure on the island of Penang and Malaysia.
Penang people speak fluent English, as a result. The living is easier and slower. It is cheaper to live on the island especially, if you are using U.S. dollars.
All true! ☺️
You have chose the right place Penang is a beautiful island .. 🎉🎉🎉
I think so too!
two peas in a pod
Excellent chat, thanks Andrew and Jeff.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
How difficult is to get the silver visa to retire in penang ? Is it just the deposit with no monthly income requirement ? How else do they evaluate you and is it hard to get or is it just being able to put the deposit in ? Once you obtain it for the silver it is 10 years ? Are there any yearly re evaluations ? Can the process be all done online ? Sorry for so many questions 😊
Not finalised yet so know one knows.
How does the weather in Penang compare to KL, i.e. the heat and humidity year round??
Not too different
Fabulous Taylor. Very much enjoyed the video. Well done. So interesting and informative😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Twins
A retired US judge now living in Penang, well done Andrew introducing Americans living in Malaysia, even though I don't live in Malaysia, I just love your channel 👍🏻
Thank you so much! 😊
A noble-looking judge with a kind heart! Most people would have given their dogs to a shelter instead of going through so much hassel for taking them abroad.
Thanks for this inspiring interview!❤
You are so welcome 🤗
I recommend Alter Domus in Penang. You can Google them. 🤗
Thanks Taylor! Can I use Alter Domus if I an interested in KL? @@andrewtaylor4558
Your interview videos are always the most interesting and fun and informative to watch. Enjoyed very much. Keep it up Taylor! And thank you for doing it and sharing !
Thanks so much! ☺️
Brilliant. I’m just starting g to watch your videos Andrew (or do you prefer Taylor?). More info here about living with a dog in Penang Thanks !!
Has Judge Jeff got his visa?
Yes! 🙏
How much is its a month to rent a house .
It varies too much to say
I was there in 1967 loved the country. They all treated me very nice. Our money was worth a lot more there. They love Americans. Beautiful WwIi memorial in the city.
he may look to get a thai LTR visa as a stop gap to not have to travel back to the states. Right now I think that MOTAC is not accepting applications until the final versions have been approved.
Can you ask him if Muzzle's are still required in public for restricted breeds?
Technically, yes.
@@andrewtaylor4558 So sad :-( have a great weekend!
Sounds like there's going to be a very long queue for the new MM2H, that is if they ever finalize it...
Kelly is a very sweet dog and is adjusting well. 🤗
Jeff had made a right choice! Welcome to Penang. Penang is a right place to settle down as a retiree.
Terrific video, really enjoyed hearing his story.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wonderful interview with your friend Jeff. Thank you for this video.
Did Jeff do an impersonation of you earlier? At a glance, you guys looked like a twin, hehe.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
@@andrewtaylor4558 😀
Nice house tour and visit with Jeff, thank you. Next week my wife and I will hopefully land in KL for a belated honeymoon tour of Malaysia and Singapore. We would love to know where Taylor may be dining next week . Hopefully, we can introduce ourselves. Subscribers NE & SQL.
Enjoy your visit. I have no idea where I will dine next week. 😂
Hi Andrew & Jeff :
- I've some suggestions for both of you. Ahh.. it just small suggestions making MM2H community ease when staying here.😊

🤔
Jeff looks like you 😂
Yep. We could be brothers! 😂
Taylor, do you prefer condo or apartment living in Malaysia? What are the amenities you look for the most? 🇲🇾 🎉 🏡
Almost all apartments in Malaysia are condos. I look for a pool, of course and location. ☺️
Thank you Taylor, Jeff, for this very insightful vlog. I can appreciate the attachment to beloved family pets. Thankful you are both living happy lives in beautiful Malaysia 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have a question for the Judge: Is he still maintaining residence in the US? How did he deal with his retirement and bank accounts? I really appreciate an answer! Thank you!
He currently has a house in the US. He will be selling it. Banking isn’t an issue. Just wire funds from one country to the other.
