    Living in Phnom Penh I can find any kind of food I want. I love Tex-Mex and we have many restaurant choices for that, and being from Texas, I found a Texas BBQ restaurant. All the restaurants where I have tried the western style foods have been very good. For me, it's just like being in the US, minus the political climate and high cost of living. I had 2 job offers within 3 days of shooting my CV out for English language teaching positions. Cheers from PP!

    Cambodia has the option to have a retirement VISA for age 50-54. It just costs more than at 55 and the income qualifications are different. But it’s less complicated than Thailand.

      The irony is Thailand seems to occupy a sweet spot in terms of progress. Not too much not too little. If it one day catches up to the likes of Taiwan or South Korea, many expats will probably bemoan the "progress".

    Cost of living (?) - ''on a monthly basis'' - Thailand may on be a little bit more (!) - AFTER - you park 800,000 Baht in a bank of theirs !!! --- A not so 'friendly' aspect for many ! --- Visa is no comparison for the over 55 ''retirement visa" in Cambodia. Siem Reap is an ideal spot for overall low cost of living and proximity to Bangkok for medical being a 1 hour flight. - - - Thailand may be more appealing for people who are more wealthy and have less need for a lower budget. Those on a tighter budget for retirement may really appreciate Siem Reap for all factors considered.

    • @ammerudgrenda
      @ammerudgrenda День тому +1

      The 800,000 baht is not a fee. It’s just a temporary deposit to make sure you are financially stable. Reason: Too many times, foreigners have run out of money and skipped the country without paying their bills.

      Thailand is already wealthy, while Cambodia is still struggling with poverty. In the spirit of humanity, we need to help those in need to improve their lives. Many Cambodian children don’t have the chance to go to school and rely on support from foreigners. Let’s help Cambodian children they are living very difficult lives.🙏🙏

    Cost of living will depend on what currency your wealth or income is in. Cambodia is USD currency. Any larger price-tag, including rent, will be in USD. The riel is pegged to the USD. THB/USD exchange rate fluctuates quite a bit. There is a huge surplus of cheap new modern housing in Cambodia. Thai food is WAY better than Cambodian food. Very good comparison video!

      Cambodia also has its own luxuries; it just depends on what type of luxury you prefer. I’d say the main issue with the cost of living in Cambodia is that transportation is more expensive than in Thailand, but it’s still affordable.

    Cambodia is right next to Myanmar and even below (less corrupt than) The Philippines on ASEAN's corruption index. I think a lot of people overlook this, dazzled by the low prices. Corruption isn't a problem for people...until it is.

    Have noticed both countries seem to have a "chip on their shoulder" when it comes to one another, especially among the ppl in govt positions. This wasnt apparent, as far as I could tell, based on my last visit in 2018.
    Why this is the case ? dont know, but I can speculate. firstly, co-vid hit the world hard, especially so in the global tourism sector. Countries that rely on this type of revenue, be it mild to moderate (that would be Thailand, and Cambodia, respectively) "felt it". With tourism not rebounding as some/ to many thought it would back into a boom cycle, it has become competitive for that tourist $$$.
    There is also a possibility of a big brother- lil bro dynamic going on here too. with the big one, with a higher GNI, HDI, etc is behaving like a bully to his lil bro neighbor ??
    imo, both need to "get back to their shared heritage" roots and be more cooperative with one another.
    Indeed, they both "have it in them" to do so....whether they actually do or not remains to be seen. I wish them both "chok dee" (Good fortune) . ~gizziiusa
