- Sentences handed down in the S$3 billion money laundering case are in line with those imposed in other jurisdictions, according to Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Social and Family Development.
She noted that S$3 billion money laundering case encompasses a variety of amounts and charges. For instance, Su Haijin, one of the Fujian-origin convicted, was sentenced to 13 months and 6 months of imprisonment for two counts of money laundering involving approximately S$1.4 million, with these sentences to run concurrently.
She highlighted that S$165 million, or about 95 percent of the assets linked to Su and his wife, were forfeited to the State.
Ms Sun made this statement in response to a Parliamentary Question filed by Leader of the Opposition Mr Pritam Singh during the parliamentary session on 2 July.
In a supplementary question, Mr Singh referred to the term "Singapore washing" that has emerged in media reports over the past two years, questioning whether the Inter-Ministerial Committee would address claims that Singapore is being used as a conduit for money laundering.
Ms Sun affirmed that the Inter-Ministerial Committee is rigorously working to prevent the abuse of corporate structures in Singapore by money launderers.
Additionally, she mentioned the importance of other gatekeepers in the system, such as real estate agents, lawyers, precious stones and metals dealers, and corporate service providers, in guarding against potential money laundering activities.
tan wu meng has conscience
this guy is bright
Is he Rare?
She is learning to be a minister 😂
MP Tan Wu Meng, one of the best MP. Homework done, ask precise questions.
@@zhirong6684 he must not run for election under Opposition. Else he may win
@@LonganLee This kinda of MP, I will support him wherever he goes. But unfortunately, this kinda of capability, the gov will grab.
@@zhirong6684 No Ruling party will Never Lose Power. This is a universal undebunkable truth. There will always be some who are like our existing top talents in opposition who would want change because there are many ways to reach Rome, if you get what i mean. And there is a growing number who do not like the way the country is heading. So whoever joins them won't be able to change their primary trajectory in most likelihoods. Unless somehow election is banned
@@zhirong6684 does a MOS earn over $1m? WuMeng should earn 1.5 times whatever the MOS earns based on this performance
Reading from script written by PAP. Hahaha.
Yes, reading from prewritten script. Hardly any from her own words.
😅
ya, SOP
@user-uu6jt2mm3b
Actually not from PAP but PAP itself has all the while been recruiting the top scholars to pen the script for them n incidentally my relative's former classmate is one of them.
You all think she got about $1m tax dollars annually? I think I not as talented as her but should command $500k only so I asking my boss to up my salary
Harlow, Miss Sun, as a citizen voter, I have absolutely zero god darn interest to know how "comparable" are the sentences faced by foreigner convicts compared to other countries ok?
What you say is highly subjective and serves Singaporeans no purpose and no benefit whatsoever.
What I do want to know, is for a citizen and a foreigner, both convicted of the same exact crime, whether both of them are gonna be meted out the same sentence or not !!
If the answer is No, and the Singaporean gets the heavier sentence while the foreigner gets let go with a slap on the wrist, you simply practise double standards; all you so called comparable to other countries jargon is ultimately pointless nonsense at the end of the day.
you're absolutely right
Wah steady
good lah
Not just the pap govt is nonsense. They are also constantly designing and implementing policies to betray the interest of local citizens for their own benefits.
Planning loophole for new citizens to escape NS. Does Singapore really need to lower ourselves so badly in order to make use of foreigners to depress wage level and increase inflation and cost of living so that the ultimate benefiary is the govt.
Sets of law is for all, ir regarding they are foreigner or Singaporean, is there special sets of law for people who are short, tall, yellow skin, black skin, white skin? . Or there is a different law for the rich and a common person😊,
For a moment i thought Tan Wu Meng is from the opposition party 😂
He raised valid points that need serious consideration by the Govt. of the day.
Kana question frm slyvia already kalang kabut liao lo😂😂😂
Is it spelt Kallang Kahbok ? Any Malay abang can provide correct spelling?
If other jurisdictions are our benchmark then we wouldn't have death penalties for drug traffickers
This level of talent got earn about $1m tax dollars? I am not as good but should command $500k only
@LonganLee
So modest of u in your comments but too arrogant for the peanut's lady.
Why don't you join politics instead of being an armchair politician. 😂😂
@@yoyolexy I invoke my power to vote them out as bestowed o me by the supreme law of the singapura aka the Constitution. Every voter is part of the Political process whether a voter like it or not. It's a Given
The question was .. ‘is the sentence a deterrent’… time in prison ?
Who prepared the “answer” sheet for Minister Sun…
Old cunning bird
Guess who?
So many potential MInister commentators. If only they stand in Parliament and debate with the existing MInisters. What a show it will be. Really looking forward to the day it happens.
The system just wanna collect the forfeits and kick the bucket down to others 😤
14 months imprisonment is less than duration of 2 years National Service
SUN still green
@Humorousguy64
Green, pretty or lack of talent should be more suitable to join a beauty pageant.
Did WP ask what happens to the money?
@franciscody9622
If I'm not mistaken, it already appeared in the media n can also read Amy, the Creator who can provide u with further more details.
NO HOPE...Then how the money arrive in sg in the first place....sg safe keeper sleeping or corruption by the money?
The justification for death sentence in drug trafficking is due to the impact it affects those involved and also to act as deterrent. Base on that logic and the jail sentences of the convicts, money laundering doesn't have that much impact to society and no need much deterrence.
All the answer frm her is extremely embarrasing to sg..haaiizz don worry more answers very soon..😂😂😂
just beating round the bush. Alamak!
Too light sentencing
The issue is whether the sentence meted on money laundering really deters such crimes involving billions. or is it just a pin prick sentence so to speak? This ne3eds to be addressed.
But what does the majority think is what matters. The hands that gave away the power
The sentence of 14 months is less than 24 months national service.
@@MarcoJr666 we must not go down the rabbit hole 🕳️ . We must not suggest that there is a more lucrative way to earn a living in the Hub of Asia some say the world including Batam. Where the rewards maybe mistaken as outweighing the risks . We must always remain politically correct as our mama taught us to be so where honesty is the best policy that even our religion teach us to be so. We are not dishonest scum bags you know? One such is a surgeon wearing white but actually a organ thief who can still wear a straight face with tears coming from his eyes after killing the patient and stealing his organs
@@lengho6294 you worry that other criminals like drug dealers may turn to Money Laundering in the spore misperceiving how lenient the penalties are? Yes, a misperception cos the jail is so long. So many months you know? We must remain politically correct as a truly honest human being of faith
For sure, the WP MPs are not the "sharpest knivea on the block".
I think Dr Tan better articulates compared to Minister Sun
‘Extremely difficult to differentiate illicit & legitimate funds’…seriously..sgp MPs are mostly highly educated 😮..
Again the assesments is like a chioce lah if they want to continue????WTF
Offer too gd to reject mahhh...
Still want to check ah😂😂😂😂
If she can say tat conducting assesment is a choice, tat means she already summarize tis issue big time already😂😂😂
Wah so so so tomorrow will see town council news update or take to grave news update?😂
Please this dirty money is delicious for government coffer. Maybe can help defer tax increase temporary
Minister Sun is one of my most favorite leader. Her English is marvelous. Take care and God blessed.
We need MP who can work and get their hands dirty. Not only good with English. Good grief
Useless to talk much!
Hope the next GE, people are more wiser!!
😂😂😂 I usually will say something about policies but I have nothing to say about sun xuelin 😂😂 only can say she is pretty 😂😂
Does anyone know the name of Tan Wu Meng's haircut? Thinking of getting this the next time I visit my barber.
